@Royal Fun ok sure. It can't just kinda suck now? I started following channels like Mephy's right to expose myself to new literature since post skip has been mid. I wonder what her and Daniel's opinions would be if they were more familiar with shounen tropes which OP leans far too much into now. Better execution but still stuff I hate to see.

I’ve learned a lot here. So much about structure, tropes, writing styles/prose styles.
I’ve also had a look at fantasy, Backman, Sanderson. It’s been very interesting.
This was an amazing video. I loved seeing your reaction to each one of the comments and how you tried to convince the comments that the statement they made were wrong. My favorite so far is the corny one.
The peter pan one was also really good after finishing the video.
Mine was Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. It gave me that same tone, same joke feeling. It got old really fast, and it made the book really dull for me. And you love it so much! Weird how we all perceive things so differently.
I just imagine Merphy as Holt from Brooklyn 99 yell bone but she yells corny 🤣 , "corny?! CORNY?!"
I think it's unfair to say Luffy doesn't learn from his mistakes or doesn't grow, but I will say that every time the crew goes anywhere he is the main reason they get in trouble. I wouldn't call that "not learning from his mistakes" though because it almost always works out fine for him and he wouldn't view it as a mistake.

Personally, I really enjoyed the Gentleman Bastards series, and have recommended them to friends.
Jean and Locke have good chemistry. They’re horribly toxic for each other, but their chemistry works

That LotR roast made me laugh a little. D&D's fantasy world was inspired in part by LotR. They even had to change the word Hobbit to Halfling.

This was hilarious, I wish I had participated in the roasting as well XD (I probably just would've said something like Sanderson being overrated). You're such a humble and sweet person, I like how most of your reactions were like "I disagree, but that's fair" and then "why though??" XD I don't think I could've done the same, I can't handle criticisms of my favorite books. (All the One Piece roasts made of wince!)
It feels like there are a lot of people out there that love hating on One Piece . With half of those roasts I wasn't sure if they were even serious or just trying to get merph mad
I love that Oda let's his imagination run wild with character designs and does not confine himself to the limits of human body. It is one of the the main reasons I fell in love with One Piece.
It really works in One Piece favour since there is such an extreme variety in character designs and it never feels bland
I have to admit, I've liked everything I've tried on your recommendation. That comes with the caveat, however, that I've only tried a few of them. You do a great job analyzing and describing books, and I apparently do a great job deciding what I'd like. Enjoyed the video, you're a great sport!
This is a good reminder of why I don't put much stock into random Internet opinions. Just a lot of "what you like is bad an overrated, no details necessary."
That's an amazing idea. To roast your own book selections and to roast other people's book selections. Individual books, tropes, character arcs. Fantastic idea. Asking others to roast your book taste is too.
I think that most guys probably don’t see much in Jean and Locke’s friendship. Maybe as a woman, it’s giving you a glimpse of what many male friendships are like (in fiction, and sometimes real life), whereas us dudes have read soo many versions of this. They’re just kind of boring. Not enough tension, not enough explanation. Idk.
Watch/read Yu Yu Hakusho and you’ll see some great bro friendships. Or FMA is another great example.
I'm loving your content lately! The Malazan roast was brilliant. And I think Locke and Jean comments are based on the first book - still not fair, but I can get it, Jean absolutely shines in books two and three.
If I saw your post I'd probably comment on Rebbeca. I suffered through fiften pages or so of two women sitting in a bar, then one of them standing somewhere. I vaguely remember a very uninteresting man and even less interesting dialogue, and then I gave up.

My dream: To write a book so good that Merphy is appalled when people roast it
Whether or not I'm getting that... since I am a teenager and still learning... I have no idea. I think at least my characters are okay. Some of them are annoying (looking at you, miss green-eyed silver-haired edgy queen) but they're supposed to be because I'm planning character developement for them. Merphy if you see this, if you ever see a YA book entitled The Aurthur Twins and the Five Realms that has a cover that most likely will have a knife with characters reflected across it, I would be honored if you read it. I don't mind constructive criticism and I will accept it if you don't like my book. It's not even out yet... and the first one I was still learning how to write good stories and characters... but hopefully its good. This was surprisingly enlightening. I now know that one take is a manga or comic book series of sorts, and that I'm not alone in not liking Sanderson's work (the limited sample of it I've tried reading anyway). I thought I'd like it, because I like YA most of the time and I like fantasy most of the time, but his stuff's just boring and full of things that I don't understand (non native speaker).
So I'm the person that commented that I'd set Haunting of Hill House on fire. The reason I don't like it is that nothing really happens until the end, and by that point, I was fed up with the boring characters as well.
