Title claims to be about Korey roasting Merphy when we all know it’s actually just Merphy passively bullying him.
I love that Korey knows so much about the books just from editing and not from reading
Oh man I love these. I'd also live to see you guessing 5 star reviews on books you HATED
The one review that used the word anhedonic, it’s actually a great word. Anhedonia is the inability to feel joy, especially as it relates to things that you used to enjoy. It basically describes the numbness that comes from depression, but isn’t exclusive to it. A sort of organic anesthesia for emotions
Man I found the descriptor to my depression
Ohh, so kind of the opposite of hedonism? The words feel like they relate ethimologically
Or I could, you know, just google it...
Thanks for telling us, btw. I wanted to look the word up but kept watching and forgot lol
Sounds like me.
and it does describe the characters well. I totally agree with that review
I love that he's watching Bluey. Bandit has a great deal to teach dad's everywhere.
Books whose positive reception make me question my membership in the human race 😱🤣
Literally how I felt about 3 chapters into Gideon the Ninth. It's literally about an abused child slave growing to love her psychotic abuser. I was spitting bile by the time I put the book down.
@@Hoobastomp Sorry about that 😭🌊 I read a similar manga, but it was way WORSE 🥶
@@maximwb237 Oh yeah, manga is in another category altogether. (Usagi Drop, anyone?) There's a lot of authors in that field actively trying to justify slavery. Creepy. But it gets so much worse. I remember coming across a cool-sounding anime when I was a child of 11 "sailing the high seas" so to speak. "Elfen Lied? So it's a fantasy story with elves? That's cool!"
It was not cool. That and other interactions with Japanese media left me really sensitive about tonal inconsistency in stories.
Spoilers (and warning for NSFL) to spare anyone who wants to look into Elfen Lied; It was a rom-com about a pair of cousins taking care of an amnesiac girl they found on the beach, interspersed with scenes of children being brutally tortured and having their limbs ripped off. The author has a thing about girls dying in horrible ways; the same person made Brynhildr in the Darkness.
@@Hoobastomp I agree with that as well 😞😤
@@Hoobastomp Fr manga can be so awesome yet it can also go so low with those kind of stories, Usagi Drop has to be the worst ending I have ever seen in any form of media (and that's saying a lo when I also read Domestic Girlfriend and Prison School), how can you ruin so badly what was such a wholesome plot and make it into basically a grooming story? Like really how do you come up with that ending?
Elfen Lied I can luckily say that, even tho I did watch it, I was also about 11 years old when I did and I'm now old enough to be able to block it out of my memory, I really can't remember anything about it other than it being really weird.
Also, the slavery thing you mention is the main reason why I have barely seen or read any form of isekai.
I know Merphy isn’t his mum (obviously 😂😂), but when Korey goes “OW!” And she says, without blinking or a seconds thought “you’re fine” is the most mum thing I’ve ever seen 😂😂. Is merphy an older sibling? I can see her being one 😂😂
Seeing you and Korey quibble is always the highlight of my day.
"It's actually pronounced 'prach-EY' " is hilarious to me.
Reminds me of the movie, "A Knight's Tale". "It's called a lance... Hello..."
3:41
It is now my headcanon that Merphy walks like this everywhere. I'm going to think of this every time I see one of her nature walk B film interludes.
Korey watching Bluey during the ad is... super relatable, tbh. 😅 Best adult cartoon masquarading as a kids' show ever!
@@britneynicolewrites It's def more relatable if you have kids, but it's still super sweet, funny, and endearing enough to stand on its own! I watch it more than my kids tbh 🤣
I'm afraid that I must dissent. For that title can only be truly held by Animaniacs.
Thr episode with the dad trying to pick up chinese takeout was the more relatable thing Ive seen in years lol
@@lieslherman Still just as enjoyable without kids. The episode Baby Race made me tear up even though I've never been a mother.
@@00ammy00 Aww! 💕 Thats my fave, makes me sob every time! Honestly, I think if I could trust anything to help people empathize with parents of young kids, it's this show. It really communicates what it's like SO well!
I love when Korey is in your videos, they are always my favourite.
This was so fun. It makes me want to leave more creative reviews on the 1-2 star books that I've read
You two seem to have very different ways of processing information. Makes for interesting videos. I tried to read The Magicians series and only got partway into the second book before I had to quit to preserve my own sanity. Usually I never leave a book unfinished once I start reading it but that one was just too much.
Try War and Peace! (I managed one page).
Love watching videos with the both of you! Makes me laugh so hard 😂
I got one that Merphy didn't! 😁
The condesending of servants and peasants gave it away. I don't know if the protagonist grows during the series, but she was difficult to like in the first book.
You guys are always so fun to watch, loved that video :)
Love this series, I have an idea for the next one: do the normal video but bonus round with super vague reviews of books already done in the video.
2:12 "I wonder if I'll guess it"...Corey: seriously responds. 2nd attempt "I WONDER IF I'LL GUESS IT" (Im-being-ironic-hubby!).. Corey: I refuse to notice your sarcasm
Murph: gives up, lemme-conect-dots-for-you 😂
Love that’s Koreys watching bluey in the ad
Not enough dragons!!!! I don't care about finding a dumb husband 🤣
Korey!! You guys are so amazing!!!
I DNF'd "The Magicians" a few hours before seeing this video and so instantly thought of it when that review was read 😂
Korey in the house! He was in good form this video.
This is awesome. I need more of you two together. Such chemistry.
I love these videos! The two are so funny together!
That Lady Trent description is apt, I love fantasy and my sister suggested this book to me and I questioned our relationship after I read it
In defense of the Guards Guards reviewer:
Terry Pratchett doesn't have the _worst_ humor but he DOES have _British_ humor, which can sometimes look exactly the same
He's such a genius. Very few authors have managed to create such imaginative works.
You guys are the best. Korey makes a great video even better every time!!
You had me giggling all the way through. You guys have the *best* sense of humor
Your ad breaks make my entire day, Merphy.
These reviews were hilarious, bravo Korey
Y'all are adorable. Great video!
Loved it! Now we could do this about opinions in the comment section in social media, because I take those just as seriously. LOL!
This was hilarious! Love it!
This was fun to watch.😄
that 1 star review sold me on dawn lol I like disturbing stories
I love these kinds of videos. 😅😂😊
19:31 ironic Merph is the best kind of Merph
We love these videos! Keep them coming!
This made my day! 😄
I love these videos 😂 I live with the hope that one day you’ll find one of my book reviews
Merphy's goofy walk in that coffee ad sent me 😂
The finding the dumb husband was my favorite part.
Which book is that one?
@@iiisha864 A Natural History of Dragons
Ioved this so much
When Merphy says stop it... I lost my mind 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Korey is so good at picking these 😂
Re: the word ‘hates’ in the review for Lost Metal… autocorrect doesn’t like past tense, and will often change it, so the person probably typed ‘hated’, and then autowrong changed it to ‘hates’.
Hey, I just bought a box of three classics of Machado de Assis. Kinda embarrassing it took me this long to do it. Thanks for the reminder
This made me wanna read The Magicians 😂
I'd be here for the magicians 1 stars video!
That Sensor in the sponsor though. Junji Ito is a class act
You should try the Magicians tv series, and make a comparison video
Imo a series that was better on tv than the book
Great Video!
This was hilarious 😂
I look forward to your new channel doing watch reviews with Korey now that your booktube days are done.
I love Merphy. That said I see Korey in the thumbnail and I insta-click.
Merphy, for the second review to question membership in the human race, good lord. I was s glad when Cory said it wasn't Hitchhikers. My step dad just got me the first Hitchhiker book so I'm glad that wasn't it. To get over an experience I endured a friend suggested Beartown. In your and Cory's opinion should I read it?
Do you like sarcasm? Or very dry, British humor in general? Do you mind that the world building is described so viscerally, and yet still manages to just escape anything you can fully picture in your mind's eye? Do you like Doctor Who? Do you mind a main character that loved his boring life up until the start of the story so much that it takes him a couple of books to not be vaguely traumatized by the whiplash of finding himself in space, and not having a home to go back to? If any of those questions repulse you, you might not want to read these books. I get that people hate things being nonsensical for nonsensicalities sake, but so much of it is juxtaposing the MC's old life to the one he's been thrown into, that it makes sense in its own way. *Edit* a word.
Yeah... I'd have guessed 'Six Crimson Cranes' for the 'A Natural History of Dragons' one. 😁
I have that watch too, Korey 😮
Another great ad! What was Korey watching on the computer?
Bluey!
I knew the Tyra Banks quote instantly, what a way to write a review lol
Need Korey to make a booktube channel or a Bluey review channel...
Who else watches Merphy's videos and then Daniel Greene's videos 30 minutes later?
Do you time that with a stop watch?
Yes and more collabs please.
That review about Dawn was accurate 😱😞😤🤣
This was fun to watch.😂😅😂
📖🥰📚
"WELCOME!!!!" - ...to Bookrassic Park. 🤣😜
It is good to have YA books with simpler reading levels for teens that are still struggling readers.
Greedy neighbors learn their cranky old neighbor is both rich and near-death. Clumsy, incompetent people doing things to other people while always hoping for some windfall from god only knows where. So much pathos I almost cried.
Hahaha best ad segue
Me: The Lost Metal!
Merphy: The Lost Metal!
Me: I said it first! I win! 😆
Do I finish book series? is the most iconic line
Not the membership in the human race 😂😂😂😂😂
I'd recommend "I am not a serial killer"
We need more manga content here!!
Watch Mushishi :D
Bluey was the star of the show (in the background of the ad🤣)
My goal is for one of my one star reviews to show up in a Merphey video😂
Have you read The Culture series by Iain M Banks? Would love to hear your thoughts on it
I had forgotten about The Magicians.. gahhh was it geese $3x or was it fox $3x???? I remember that was my quitting point!
Great video, but my biggest takeaway is I can't believe I've never seen that Tyra Banks rant before.
Yeah, Dawn's a weird book. Very disturbing, but I bought and read the entire trilogy, which I almost never do with books
I'm really beginning to fear trying to read anything by Octavia Butler. Between what I have heard of Fledgeling and Dawn, I am thoroughly frightened of her work and I'm not sure if I will like it.
I highly recommend starting with Kindred. It's one of her more accessible books. Wild Seed is my personal favorite, though.
Bluey!!!
Please do a review on the new Peter Pan & Wendy movie. If I remember correctly you’re a fan of the book.
Great fun.
This is the second Butler book I've heard about with questionable scenes and neterial. Why does she get so much praise if she's so off-putting at times?
Any excuse for hating/loving on The Magicians!
The Magicians video would be fun. I do love this series but I don't recommend this series to anyone for many reasons
new here (thanks yt algo). I sure hope this dude is her husband (I heard on a different vid she's married). awesome dude.
Went into The Magicians with such high hopes. Only finished the first book because I was convinced I would find why so many love it. I could not. Gave away the trilogy with relish. Thank goodness that awful story is purged from my memory.
I got lady trent right! I win!
Pratchett? Has the worst sense of humor?
I mean, I didn't like Guards, Guards as much as any of the Death novels, but that is BOLD.
11:45 made me wanna unsubscribe and subscribe again. Best line ever😂😂
But... 'A Natural History of Dragons' has TWO maps.....
This book made me hate the word "obviously." What is it?
Isabella is SUCH a good protagonist. I’m MAD.
what is this crazy talk? A natural history of dragons is not sci fi its just fantasy. If anything its alt history fantasy not sci fi
sorry, but DAWN was a crazy good book. it is F'd up but that is why we are coninuiing o talk about it!!!
Why do people think books need twists to be good?
Honestly, I don't think I could be friends with anyone who thinks Terry Pratchett has the worst sense of humour. It's like a red flag.
I like the product you promoted but it really distracted me that he was watching Bluey. The episodes are like 10min long, LET HIM FINISH 😋
1 star: reading this book was like reading a theoretical physics paper from 2000 B.C. The author really wanted to tell me how the universe works, but every moment I’m painfully aware he pulled it all straight from his butt. In the time it took to finish this book, I could have read Berserk twice and still be less emotionally drained than I was after 70 hours of this D&D algebra lecture beating my brain into submission.
The main character duo is just a rip-off Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. The uselessness of the romance is surpassed only by the unlikability of all the women involved. And the most memorable moment of the book is when my cat knocked it off the shelf onto my other cat, and the second cat f*cking died. I didn’t even have to bury him. The weight carried both book and cat through my floor into the earth’s mantle where they met the same fate as Gollum and the Ring. I built a memorial to Mr. Sniffles honoring his sacrifice and how he protected me when I could not protect myself.
thats not sci-fantasy. Sci-Fantasy is Star Wars
