There's something very special about Fuji, the system has a lot of character, I hope they will be able to solve the autofocus and the manufacturing challenges.
I love my fuji cameras. But their AF has always been the Achilles heel. The recent broken firmware just put a spotlight on it, that's all. The first generation and second generation xtrans cameras had awful autofocus. Third generation improved considerably but was not particularly impressive compared to the competition. 4th gen and 5th gen barely improved while the competition completely leapfrogged ahead. Even single point non-continuous AF would often indicate GREEN but the pictures would not be in focus once loaded in Capture One or LR. I understand the compelling charm of the fuji system, but if you're a fuji user who keeps attributing your blurry images to "user error", just try a current gen camera from a different brand (Sony, Canon, Nikon). You'll quickly discover that it's not a "user error" problem.
I just sold my X T5 and went back to Nikon. I loved my X T3 and mostly use it for single focus shots…I don’t shoot action or use continuous. I bought the Nikon Z 7II as I am primarily a stills shooter…and used prices on these are fantastic. The only thing I miss about the Fujifilm are the F2 lenses that can fit in your pocket and take amazing photos. The X T5 felt kit - ish and not as well built as the Nikons or X t3 or X Pro cameras. Photography needs to be enjoyable and sometimes you just feel the need to switch it up…just like cars. Great video!
That intro alone, makes your videos so much better, and far more attractive than the opposition. Really enjoyed it Omar. And luckily, I DO own both the X-T5 and Zf, as well as an X100VI for good measure. Your videos have been of great help in setting-up and using, all three.
This is so me! Exactly what I have been saying all along! I have used Fuji since the X-T2 and I still have the X-T4 and X-T5 a bunch of lens. I Love them for all the same things you mentioned, travel, every day personal shooting. I have used both for my professional work in photo and video but the autofocus has driven me to find a better performer for my motorsports and aviation work. So that being said this year and after extensive research I went with the Nikon Z8 for my professional fast moving things! I.E. motorsports and fast flying objects 😊. Much better tracking and keeper rates! PS I enjoy your content 😄
I guessed all right. In the photos the classic chrome cyan blue tones and the red tint in the brown tones gave it away. And in video I spotted the rosy skin tone you get with provia
Yeah I guessed all too. For me it was the colors actuation. On the first photo the reds were more fuller on the fuji. Second photo the blue on the jacket was also more emphasised than the nikon. And on the third photo, you can see that on the top book, there are more details on the red graphic in the fuji photo - more so than on the nikon. I don’t know how I got all photos right, It can’t be that fuji has more dynamic range since nikon has a very good one too. I think it has all got to do with color rendering, although a very subtle one that you must watch for very closely.
D700 vs X-T3, for birds in flight its no contest, the continuous auto focus in the (ten years older) D700 blows Fuji away. I can see the X-T3 being my last Fuji.
I still have my good old D700, but never tried shooting birds with it! Suffice to say I switched from Canon 5Dmk2 with 9 AF point and 21 MP to D700 with 12 MP and 52 AF points and didn’t look back! :)
Sold all my Fuji gear except for my X70 back in August as I could never feel comfortable knowing I'd got focus on a shot. Moved over to Sony and although the lenses are bigger, the AF is night and day different. Also, knowing the AF is there has actually made me more creative with some of my shooting. I thtink I got out of Fuji at the right time when their second hand gear was a premium.
I got to play with a Sony A9iii and coming from my X-T4 I felt like I jumped a like 100 years into the future. I know they're wildly different cameras but the AF performance made me really realize how far behind Fuji really is in that space. I love my X-T4 it's what reignited my love for photography. But just man it's shocking
Great video Omar! Don't judge - but I sold all my Fujifilm gear EXCEPT the X-E2 and a a couple of lenses. It had been a longtime coming because I had been trying to use Fujifilm for events and my time in Lightroom was excessive. Then after the last firmware update, my XH2S couldn't keep up. I already had the Zf at that time and was having the time of my life with my pre-AI lenses I owned, so it was a no-brainer for me. I now use my Z6iii for events and my Zf for everything else. I need nothing else... I'll always love Fujifilm but right now, their older X-E2 with a manual lens is going to be my knock around camera only.
Nikon zf any day of the week, I have had Fujifilm for the last 12 years and have just given up on Fuji simply because the camera isn’t doing what I need them, the og xt1 autofocus feels better then the later models
Why can't they catch up? What's the problem. I have an XT4 and it does get tiresome sometimes I have figured the camera out but i was discouraged at the beginning
Thank you, Omar for saying what needs to be said. I have an X-T5 and decided to downgrade to v2.10 firmware. Had to give up some features but I found firmware 4.0 too buggy. Nice comparison between the Nikon and Fuji. I also ONLY use my X-T5 in single AF point.
Do you feel the X-T5 struggles with still photos of people? I haven’t had mine for very long. I like it so far but haven’t tried doing any paid work with it yet and I may do some portraiture eventually. I just want to be sure I’m not going to be surprised by autofocus issues.
love your positive vibes in your videos. was hearing a new little fuji is coming and I really REALLY want a tiny little one, camera, tiny little camera. all the chatter on fuji AF has made me real nervous to consider fuji atm. hope they can turn it around!
I get it and I don't shoot video very often but I'm a pro photographer and I get my job done most of the time with my X-Pro3, X-T3 and X100VI. Now I shoot mainly portraiture and street and documentary but the thing about Fuji that makes me stick to it is both the inspiration and the fun I get using their gears. To me it makes it up for everything else but that's just me. Thanks and have a good one!
As a FF Nikon user now with the ZF, I was a Fuji shooter for 10 years or so from the beginning. Absolutely love Fujifilm BUT I’ve owned a Sony a6700 and that AF is absolutely mind blowing! Never used a better AF camera! Fuji really need to look at the way Sony cameras focus!
I used an X-T5 for stills with an X-S20 shooting video at the same time. The X-T5 is an incredibly charming camera to me for all the reasons you mentioned - small size, looks, fun to use. However in AF-C it was more miss than hit, even on subjects that weren't moving. The X-S20 has cost me key shots because it decided it was time to focus hunt for no reason even though the face it was tracking wasn't moving. So I've begun migrating to Nikon by selling off my X-T5 (which was sad) and getting a Z6 III. I was recently able to pick up the 24-70 f/2.8 S thanks to Nikon's refurb sale, so now I just need a second Nikon body to replace the X-S20. I was concerned about the size/weight of the Z6 III with the 24-120 lens, but I just got back from Acadia, including a good bit of hiking, and it was fine for me. The Zf has the charm, but the ergos are significantly worst than the X-T5 to me, even with the grip, largely due to the increased weight, lack of thumb rest, stiff buttons, and no joystick.
@@TungstenOvergaard I did a model walking towards the camera with a spin in a flowing gown. I lost fewer shots to the Hassy than the X2D. I was using the XF 35mm f1.4. Oh, boy did I lose shots in both tho.
Another great video. Man you seem like such a cool guy, someone who I could definitely be friends with. I completely agree with you the focus issues… So I’ve used Nikon since the D90. My last camera was actually a D700-which I loved… it was just to big and heavy tho. Recently bought an XT3 and I’m over the moon with it. The menus I agree on too mostly- it only took me an hour with the help of RUclips to learn the Fuji tho. Nikon menus imo have always been the best- it’s why I got a D90 all those years ago, well one of the reasons I don’t shoot video… and I’m happy without tracking of any sort. I think a lot of younger photographers have become reliant on tracking and ultra fast frames per second and being able to see your exposure before you take the photo… and there’s nothing wrong with that- but when you rely on these gizmos you’re always gonna want the latest and greatest gear. For me the xt3 is such a leap from that dusty old (but amazing) D700 that I don’t even notice anything wrong with it lol. I love it. Now I just need to decide what mid range zoom to get… I’ve only got the 35mm f2 at the minute. Peace ✌️
To me, photos must first and foremost be decently exposed and in-focus, so I need to be able to count on the autofocus. It's one of the key differentiators with modern cameras. If autofocus isn't important, then you can use all kinds of fun and older cameras that have a different kind of charm.
Thank you Omar for another informed video! I must say, I agree with all of your points, particularly about the auto-focus issues that has begun to define Fujifilm of recent. Having said that, I also think that the enormous size of Fujifilm Worldwide will improve its camera's auto-focus issues in much the same way Nikon Worldwide eventually caught up in the mirrorless race that at one point left them in the dust. And lastly, for 25 years I used a Nikon FE-2 all over the world which had no bells and whistles and never felt the slightest hindrance. I realize this point may provoke controversy, which is not my intention. It's just that taking and making still photographs can be done on any camera, including an "old" Fujifilm. Thank you.
Neewer makes an after market grip with thumb support. Just picked it up and used it on my last trip. Not as deep as the small rig in the front but the thumb rest helps a ton! Working on my YT video for it now. I sold all my Fujis and I'm sticking with the Zf going forward (along with the Q3) for my street work. Fuji needs to figure some stuff out!
Just ordered T-30 II as my fun camera and plan to use it strictly with manual lenses. So no AF issues) For more dynamic shots I have A7c II which has insane AF performance with native Sony lenses.
You absolutely can change Fuji XT5 video shutter speed, ISO, aperture and exposure using the front and rear command dials in video mode with Movie Optimised Control on. No need to use touch screen.
Thank you for the great comparison!I recently changed from the Fujifilm x-t5 to the Nikon ZF. The main reasons were the autofocus, manual focus options and I wanted to try out a full frame system. Both cameras are actually very good, but the Nikon is clearly the superior tool. The one thing I sorely miss on the Nikon is the aperture ring on lenses, even though I have it now on a voigtlander lens. I also bought a Fujifilm x-pro 2 to keep myself in the system, and for the way I used my x-t5 for personal work, the x-pro 2 is more than good enough still!
Fujifilm needs to sort out the stock problems. Been trying to get my hands on one and it’s impossible to find unless second hand for triple the price. Shame they discontinued the XE4, what was the point of that?
The Fuji eye detect can drive me nuts as it needs very specific scenarios to work well. Interestingly enough though, I played with the subject tracking shooting race bikes in a corner and it did way better than I expected. Fuji just needs to overhaul the AF and the latest updates haven’t fixed it much.
when i am using bigger af box on Zf and if no subject is deteced why does camera do not focus on selected subject using + in the middle of the square. I think if big box in used on Zf camera chooice the AF point ramdom? Or am i doing something wrong?
I recently had the pleasure of shooting an event with Canon's latest flagship film camera from 2000, the 1V, and was shocked at how much faster and more reliable one point AF felt compared to my X-T4! I also have a Sony A74 and it is simply beyond comparison...
All I know is I like the Fuji system and will not consider a heavier system at my age. I am a 99.5% still photo shooter so the auto focus works okay for me. I am confident the Fuji folks find a solution for all the whining about the auto focus without me purchasing a new model. So far happy with xt5 and assortment of Fuji glass.
I’m happy with my X-T5 as well. I’ve seen a lot of complaints about Fuji’s AF recently and it worried me a little. I tried to get it to fail, but I guess my shooting style isn’t very demanding because I haven’t had any issues. I don’t do video or sports/action photography so maybe if I did, I would be unhappy with it. It’s a fun camera which is all I want these days after photographing weddings for so long. Weddings eventually took the fun out of photography for me and the Fuji has brought it back.
Fujifilm just pinned a comment under their announcement video: Dear Customers, Thank you for your feedback and comments on our AF system performance. We've been working on X-T5, X-S20 and other models as well, to release the firmware within this year for improved user experience. We will communicate the details as soon as we have more information. We appreciate your understanding. As much as I expected updates on all the current gen cameras, they could've prevented a big chunk of the backlash they got on their announcement by simpling saying this single sentence in the first place.
I own a Nikon Z8 and a Fujifilm X-T50. If I were to shoot portraits or video professionally, I'd grab the Z8. When I want to travel light and shoot landscapes or street photography, I grab my X-T50. It's fun and I love the JPEG's SOOC. I love them both, but Nikon has the better AF. I also prefer Fujifilm over the Nikon ZF.
It was price that prevented me from restarting my photography hobby with a Nikon camera, which is what I went to the store to get. A new x-t30 was one of the few I could afford (Sony was another recommendation for me; I had never bought used and would have balked at the idea because I would not have known whether to trust the seller or how to evaluate if the buy was a lemon). Like you, Omar, I hardly do any video with my Fuji, and mostly am in AF-S. I originally chalked up all my missed focus to user error (shutter priority vs. focus priority setting, and not waiting enough time for my older lenses to acquire focus was a common mistake), and I got better at working with what Fuji gave me. About a year later when I started to do my son's sports, particularly indoor sports with cruddy lighting, that's when I wished I had better AF. Would I buy a Fuji today? Years ago I had never heard of Fuji or Sony as camera brands before I went to the store to start my purchase. I thought Nikon-Canon-Olympus-PENTAX!! So if I went to the store and they told me about Fuji and Sony, I'd look into them. But even now with all the hype I'm not sure I'd give them a look without the people behind the counter, who I trusted, hearing what I was looking to do and suggesting I take a look into the system. One thing is certain - any camera I get would have to have the dials. It is the dedicated dials that have made it so easy for me to learn the exposure triangle. And if I didn't feel confident about that, I would still be languishing or trying to do everything in auto and being upset. Because of the dials, I shoot in manual mode almost all the time - I feel like I am in control of the camera, and each picture is more learning. I never got that with my PASM cameras, it was this mystery, and tv, av just confused me. Price and weight of camera and lenses, needing a dial, having a good lens selection, photos being more important than video ... I'd probably be looking at them. But the slew of recent "AF sucks" videos is a lot different climate from the "Fuji kaizen is amazing!" that I was hearing as I made my decision back then.
FYI, for years Sony has made many (if not all) the sensors for Nikon, Olympus, Fuji, Panasonic, Leica, and even some Powershot Canons. Sony were the pioneers in full-frame mirrorless cameras (over a decade ago) and are a leading company in autofocus performance. They also got the largest selection of lenses for their mirrorless cameras. Sadly, I don't like the way their images look for casual photography. So as a hobbyst I use Nikon, Fuji and Canon.
@@borispradel1037 They are such an important tech company. I didn't learn about Sony's reach until I got further into photography, but I used to have a Sony Vaio - it was really a top-notch computer.
Is the problem mostly in AF-C? . I’ll definitely switch to single point. Dumb question: Should I turn OFF eye detect? I use my Fuji cameras to make a living, andI have since 2018. I’m a headshot photographer working in studio and natural light. In studio, I’ve not noticed any problems at all with AF. Likely because I’m between f5.6 and f8. But last two outside shoots (post firmware 4.0) I did notice about 50 out 500 (10% or so) were a bit off with the focus. I’m primarily shooting on the (newer) 56mm and not wide open. I got eye confirmation, but it focused on the tip of the nose, etc. Till Fuji fixes this, should I turn off eye tracking and stick to face detection? I did try that and got almost no misfires. Seems to do with the eye tracking giving false confirmation. I have a shoot coming up this week so help is appreciated! Honestly, I don’t find it a huge deal, especially in the line of work that I do because I never shoot fast moving objects or people that are in sports or anything like that. My subjects are mostly seated or standing still. But it’s still very annoying. For the time being, I’m probably going to, shoot at like F2.8 or something and turnoff eye tracking. I don’t do video on my Fuji. I use a variety of other cameras for that. So I’ll stick with Fuji for now. But that Nikon calls to my roots, I am 53 and my first camera was a Nikon FE. Sigh. Fuji, get with it!
i am not a Pro like you but my go is: turn off eye detect. just leave it at face or just shoot manual and correct. This way my resulta are much better.
I just got my X100VI, my third X100 and was going to upgrade my XT-3 to an XT-5 but I’m on hold until they fix the focus problem. I’ve been trading old equipment for XF lenses at KEH and beginning to wonder if that was a mistake.
AF has just been a recent issue, its the recent firmware that just messed up. Hopefully this is fixed. Also love how Nikon is brining new improvements and features with firmware updates.. Unlike fujifilm now who is sleeping
Wild, had no udea what this cid was about but I copped the xt5 used a month back and after the AF debacle and some full frame fomo I've a z mount thypoch 28mm f1.4, a neewer grip and expect the ZF body tomorrow. I'll get a voigt pancake for the xt5 to create a x100-alike
Very fair comparison. From a fujifan boy, but not a naive one. An open minded one. With these Chinese third party AF (!) lenses, nikon system with smaller lenses gets more and more interesting. Many of this third party lenses matches the look of the Nikon Zf better, than the class leading Nikkor S-Line Lens Setup. And Nikon brings now some interesting lenses. Super fast, but cheap, with old lens design, and more character and 3D Pop than sharpness. For Portrait, Street, events, a very cool opportunity. No other camera brand have this strategy.
Omar, you should try the new neweer ( no, this isn't a typo lol) grip for the zf. I had the small rig which I liked fine, but personally I think the neweer grip is better. The new version of the neweer has a thumb tab and in combination with the grip, it feels better to me than the small rig.
I agree %100 with you. I have both, bought the Smallrig first and a few months later bought the new Neewer just to see the differences. The Neewer hasn't left my Zf body since.
@@Cariboukid I definitely prefer the neweer material to the smallrig. For me, the perfect grip material would be if they could match the material the zf is made of on the neweer grip, BUT i love it nonetheless lol. I do really appreciate the choice though.
I have a Z camera and a Fuji and i cannot match the still images SOOC. And I REALLY wish i couldn’t tell the difference in my color images. I’m absolutely baffled by Fujis terrible repair service… i sent mine back under warranty because a dial wasn’t working right and overheating, it came back with both issues plus a dial that was sticky and a button that was pressed into the body and no longer works 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ It took 3.5 weeks for them to mess it up, i sent it back and they spent 3.5 weeks not fixing all four issues 😡 Now what do I do? I had already owned a Nikon z50, but i cannot get the colors to match and the Fuji photos to me are so much more wonderful 😢😢😢 I actually sold a x100T and some other gear to get my Fuji X-S20, but now I’m upset they won’t figure out how to fix it. Do i keep sending it back and never have my camera with me or do i just live with all these problems?
I wish I did better research before buying X-H2s for video. Not quite the upgrade I was expecting from an X-T3. The AF on firmware v7.0 is better than 6.x was, but is still nowhere near acceptable for a "flagship" $USD 2k camera. At this point I'm seriously considering selling all my Fuji gear and switching to Sony. I mean, what are the chances that they actually fix autofocus?
Righteous on Brother! Here is one more customer with money burning a whole in my pocket, hoping Fuji gets their act back together, especially supply chain, as i still lust for an X-Pro 4 that doesn’t have the 3’s hidden LCD.
I’ve thought about the Nikon Z for awhile now still using my XH1 which I love. If the Nikon had an aperture ring on the lenses it would be a no brainer. I also read the menu system is clunky especially the iso settings and auto iso. Would love to hear your opinion.
I have an xt5 and a Z8 and there is no contest when it comes to autofocus. I can get great results from either but it's much easier with the Nikon. It seems like the Nikon works with you and the fuji works against you(sometimes). I only shoot video on my iPhone so video is not important to me at this time. I've considered selling the XT5 and the large collection of lens I have and adding a Zf but then I'd want to get, let's say, an XT50 and a few small primes(I have all 1.4 primes) for travel. Kind of a sideways trade. The sale of most of my Fujifilm gear wouldn't pay for my Zf and the XT50 and a few small primes. Not sure what to do if anything. What a bourgeois problem!!!
I love fujifilm. I have multiple cameras from them with nearly all of their lenses. But it's 2024 and I would sincerely hope that 'better af' was not just a rumor...only to be debunked at a later date. Fujifilm moves me ever closer to Leica (whose m-series offerings rival fuji's af).
I have many issues with xH2 autofocus and some of quality problems. I decided to return it and to keep my xh1 and to invest to Sony autofocus that I definitely can trust in photo and video 😢
I had an XT30 and XT5. Decided to finally step out of expensive hobby and into semiprofessional business with portraits and sports/youth activities. Sold almost everything Fuji (kept the xt30 and a couple of lenses) and bought a Z8. Still learning a lot, but worth every penny and gram. I curse less at the camera and more for my own user errors. I can be in a gym shooting volleyball, or on the sidelines of a football or soccer game, or in an auditorium with challenging stage lighting; the Nikon with the 35-150mm Tamron or the 100-400mm blows the dials off my xt5 on every aspect. Thought about Sony and Canon but Nikon is doing good things lately and I’m pretty content about my decision.
I’ve always been a Nikon shooter, but when I started doing video invested in Fujifilm. I loved it, but when I got a Z8 recently it was clear that I could consolidate under one Nikon system. I kept my X100S and X-E1 for fun.
Nikon since the FM here, bought into my teenager days. I'd say, ppl nowadays being *that* gear addicted - instead to worship, what they own. I've just dedusted my old D60, its small, it's light - for a street cam, it's fine. I don't need to lug my D700 every time.
If Fuji had fixed their AF I’d probably be on an H2 now. I was looking for a system for all 8 in our Fam (ages 5-16). They all have used Finepix bridge cameras and love them… the X series price-points, sizes, and various body styles would’ve suited our needs well. I Personally needed the same quality as my A74, and was looking for 800mm FF equivalent reach options that I could get more affordably with Fuji. In the end I traded up to an A7R5 which gave the reach in Crop mode and still 26mp images from my current lenses (all 3rd party so no Sony TC option). Still hoping Fuji fixes their AF and comes back in swinging… though the DPR Fuji forum experience would still have me consider the cost emotionally lol. Loving my A7RV… it was everything I’d wanted the A7IV to be. If the Z8 had had a fully variable LCD I might have gone that route… loved the colors and files from my Z6ii. Thx Omar!
Fujifilm’s colours are terrific, but not enough to overlook AFC issues for video. Sicilian kiss goodbye, “You broke my heart, Fredo”. 6 years waiting? Sony.
To me the main difference between the Zf and the X-T5 (besides the sensor obviously) is the screen. The tilt screen of the X-T5 is pure joy for photography but is useless to film yourself, while the flippy screen of the Zf can do both but its really not the same for photography. Also XF lenses with aperture rings are the absolute best for the tactile experience, and I will dare to say its the main reason why everyone is putting an aperture ring in their lenses. Such a shame that somehow Fuji managed to make their AF-C worse and is taking its sweet time to fix it for good.
Still not sure Zf is one trick pony for Nikon or long term thing. So far we only have 28f2.8 and 40mmf2 vintage vibe glass. Both pair well with Zf, are light and fits Zf design language. All other lenses require grip and looks modern. Fuji is 100% focus on vintage, great glass with aperture. Only thing imiasing is great AF. Love the Fujifilm experience
I shot Nikon pre-Fuji but in 2012 I picked myself up an X-Pro1 with the original three lenses and stuck with Fujifilm models for 12 years. Last month I let all my Fuji gear go and got myself a ZF + lenses. So the NIkon? Low light? ✅ Autofocus? ✅ Performance? ✅ Ergos ?❌ Weight? ❌ 'Feel' ❌ The images are, when viewed through normal media pretty similar (DOF aside) as I really invested in the best Fuji lenses against the Nikon 'S' glass. To be fair I'm still trying to justify my decision - and yes, at the moment my head is still winning but boy - my heart sure does miss the Fuji.
Nikon Zf/Zfc does not have *matching* lenses from design, hence AI-S, AF-D, FYI. The new Voigtländer 35/F2 APO & 50/F2 APO Mark II does look very handsome, also the Voigtländer 40/F1.2...but these are all manual focus lenses, of course.
I shoot birds with my XH2 and 150-600. I rarely if ever update my firmware, but I think I updated to version 3 which was last year (?) and I haven’t updated it since. AF-C performance has been fine for me 🤷♀️. It’s not the best but I get enough keepers not to be too concerned. Do I wish it were better? Yes! But it’s not been so bad it’s unusable. Though I do only shoot stills so I have no idea how much worse it is in video.
Long comment : I am fuji user for 3 years (and before 11 years with canon DSLR). What i do not like on xt5 is image transfering via app. I have also xpro3, both cameras with dual slots, I use one card for raw and 2nd for smaller JPGs as backup. I usually get 1 wedding in one card as RAW and about 10plus on second as JPGs. When i use xpro3, just connected in app, selected second card, and almost inmediately I see last jpgs and I can select and trasnfer them. BUT with newer XT5 the process is terrible. App tries order photos from oldest, so for every try i will get loooong wait time to even load files on card. And I have to scroll or filter them as last day captured. Also if I try image select to transfer in camera is even worse. Xpro3 i can inmediately select last JPGS. With XT5 there is again that bug that camera trying to load from first captured, so if there is more than 10000 images, camera tryin and trying to PREPARE and after 5 minutes I am not able to pick just one file. In xpro3 that can be 20000 images (used 256GB card and file size about 4MB) and there is no lag, I just see last images and i can pick witch one i want to transfer.
Multiple autofocus issues across multiple Fuji camera platforms. I have been using two XT-3 cameras with battery grips since 2018. I am heavily invested in Fujifilm glass & would prefer to remain in the Fuji ecosystem. I will NOT however, purchase a “newer” model Fuji camera until the autofocus issues are resolved in a very significant way. Canon, Nikon & Sony all offer cameras that are several years old that outperform current Fuji cameras with respect to autofocus. Out of focus issues with a camera system is a major deterrent in purchasing a Fuji camera & a major consideration in choosing to depart the Fuji ecosystem. The company is at a crossroads with respect to keeping their brand relevant & retaining their customer base.
I never owned a Fujifilm camera, so not a problem for me. But I do own the Nikon Z50 great travel camera. The problem with this camera is also AF and the battery life (sucks).
Oh Noooo .... Don't start another RUclips vigilante mob going after NIKON's Autofocus and battery choice. Geez though, you might be able to do a whole RUclips channel about NIKON's Autofocus and the battery and the lack of APS-C lens choices, and .... Do it !!! Do it !!!
Sold all my Fuji gear recently after using it for the better part of the decade. Their AF isn’t serving my needs anymore. I can’t trust it. I’m using an R6II now.
The Fuji AF issue ruined a 50 birthday shooting. I had always positiv AF confirmations on eye/face when shooting in AF-C, but the final image where blurry on the eye/face. The focus was instead placed on the shoulder or somewhere else. What i want to say is: you do not have to be a professional photographer, sometimes private photos have a high value and cannot be redone! When a system is called AUTO FOCUS, I rely on it. Especially if this is indulstrial standard for 20 years or longer. Fuji will not get a second chance from me to ruin our next family event.
Sounds like user error. Fuji film is infamous for having bad auto focus, that should have been the first thing you learned when making your decision to purchase one, assuming you did do research, why would you go to an event and still use the autofocus system?
@@jasonscottish2824 I shoot on Fuji since x t1. But these kind of problems are new and I never had before. After I had these problems I went online and saw that a lot of people have these issues after latest firmware updates.
@@jasonscottish2824 What a dumb response. Not everyone is following every RUclips video and all the forums to get reliable information. Fuji themselves advertise having fast and reliable autofocus and bunch of fanboys and paid reviewers mislead people further. On top of that you can buy Fuji camera where autofocus was quite reliable and then Fuji breaks it with firmware updates to the point that barely anything is in focus.
It was the same for me. I was fighting with AF with belief that Fuji will someday fix their issues. What happened is they made it much worse with the updates and when my X-T5 ruined photos of my son's 5th birthday it was a last straw for me. Sold all Fuji gear and jumped to Panasonic S9. After week of owning it I did photos and videos of my daughter birthday this time and basically all the photos / videos were in perfect focus. With Fuji you will play endlessly with the settings and in the end nothing works the way it supposed to. For the amount of money they are asking for their bodies they should fix this AF issue. Panasonic S9 with lenses was cheaper for me than Fuji setup which is ridiculous.
@@MrRafalEn Listen, I have a Canon R5, been shooting for 10 years, if you think replying on any Autofocus system is the way to go then buddy just stop buying cameras. My R5 failed me a lot, and I have learned from those mistakes. Stop relying on technology and rely on your skillset and knowledge. Don’t blame Fujifilm for your incompetence 😂
Fujifilm's AFC and eye/face detection system has had a rocky start, to say the least. Instead of building a new road from scratch, they have been trying to patch up the old one. If they keep going like this, they'll never be successful. The system should be built from the ground up!!! The Sony A7 III and Canon R5 were released in 2018 and 2020, respectively, and still have better AFC and eye detection. Fujifilm is a company that is slow to hire people who know how to make things work. It is really boring to keep hearing about when Fujifilm will match Canon, Sony, or Nikon when it comes to autofocus.
I really like your videos and its true that Fujifilm has autofocus issue with the new firmware update but I saw user errors as well, why you are using eye tracking to film a camera? Min. 2:09
There's something very special about Fuji, the system has a lot of character, I hope they will be able to solve the autofocus and the manufacturing challenges.
@@FKv5p I agree 100%
Fuji’s boxing themselves into a corner with their current camera offerings. The X100 series and GFX are their new bread and butter.
It will be interesting to see if a new X-Pro gets the same kind of hype as the x100 series.
@@banana_necessaryI think it will amongst die-hard photographers who are looking for a Leica on a budget.
I have got the Fuji X-T50 and I love it!
Greetings from Germany👍🏻 I use ZF and XT 5 and I feel the Same you Said 100%
Do you feel the X-T5 struggles with still photos of people? I haven’t had mine for very long. I like it so far but haven’t tried doing any paid work with it yet and I may do some portraiture eventually. I just want to be sure I’m not going to be surprised by autofocus issues.
I agree with your comments. In particular, the Fuji menu drives me crazy!!!
love your positive vibes in your videos. was hearing a new little fuji is coming and I really REALLY want a tiny little one, camera, tiny little camera. all the chatter on fuji AF has made me real nervous to consider fuji atm. hope they can turn it around!
When the Hasselblad X2D I just rented focuses faster than my XT5, I think I need to make some changes.
Wow, that is not great
That’s not true. Fuji is fast, but not reliable in continuous + subject tracking.
So no AF issues)
For more dynamic shots I have A7c II which has insane AF performance with native Sony lenses.
Shame they discontinued the XE4, what was the point of that?
when will you do a vidoe with a hasselblad x2d?
Has anyone tried using Sony glass with the Nikon zf? I heard there’s an adapter that allows even decent autofocus
Yes. I use Megadap ETZ adapter with E mount Samyang 75mm f1.8. Not perfect autofocus but I get beautiful pictures with this combo.
I'm happy too. I agree with your points.
Fujifilm just pinned a comment under their announcement video:
Dear Customers,
Thank you for your feedback and comments on our AF system performance.
I think you've nailed it here!
Great video! I also have my Fuji cameras as my fun toys and my tools are my Sony cameras. Beautiful guitar in the back- what kind is it? 🎸
thx a lot! very useful tip 🙏
Hi Omar, love your work. Can you make a video of why you don’t use TTL?
Love your side chick 🫣🫣😂😂😂 - great video and you stand correct. I also had to learn the Fuji vs the Nikon system’s.
Great video as always. And, you just made me an even happier Zf owner
Fujifilm with Sony autofocus!! 😮 that would be crazy
Never 😢
... and suddenly i woke up xD
Another fair comparison. Now I Miss my nikon d850 😂
Frankenstein camera
Nikon colors, Fuji size and Sony auto focus oooo
Thanks for sharing.
It amazing how technology firm like fuji can not solve the AF problem, real shame
Are you aware of Fuji's announcement today about new focus firmware updates coming up this month? Worth a look....
Hopefully the firmware will support the X-T5 / X-T50.
Did they say this month? I thought they said this year
Omar, you should try the new neweer ( no, this isn't a typo lol) grip for the zf.
@@Cariboukid I took the same route. I wish the pleather material felt a little nicer on the newer but that's just nitpicking lol
@@just_A_Hack I actually prefer it. It's not sticky like the Smallrig. It's nice to have choices! :)
@@Cariboukid I definitely prefer the neweer material to the smallrig. For me, the perfect grip material would be if they could match the material the zf is made of on the neweer grip, BUT i love it nonetheless lol. I do really appreciate the choice though.
@@just_A_Hack In a perfect world that would be so! I wonder why they don't, or maybe it's a matter of can't? Either way, me happy :)
What's your office lighting setup?
The scales were already tipping. Carry on. 👍🥂
On the Zf you can't safe video files to both cards, correct?
I think that’s for all Nikon cameras?
nope.. no fuji.. overprice.. Nikon or Lumix for me..☺
I have an xt5 and a Z8 and there is no contest when it comes to autofocus.
You can use your Fuji lenses on the Nikon Z cameras with the Boryoza adapter
if no wildlife shootting with the Fuji, get the Zf, a second hand XT3 with the kit lens and a small prime.
Sony.
Great Video!
Is a xt2 or a xe2 still a viable option in late 2024?
I converted my X-T2 to IR and use it all the time with the 23mm lens..looks great
Of course. Well, it depends on your needs. For most people, I would still say "yes"
No. Believe me, I jumped from XT3 and X100V to XT5 and I noticed the difference a lot. I would not go back.
For photo only? yes
You are killing the Fuji people users lol but it’s the truth, thanks for sharing
Ergos ?❌ Weight? ❌ 'Feel' ❌
The images are, when viewed through normal media pretty similar (DOF aside) as I really invested in the best Fuji lenses against the Nikon 'S' glass.
To be fair I'm still trying to justify my decision - and yes, at the moment my head is still winning but boy - my heart sure does miss the Fuji.
That is exactly what I’m afraid of if I was to switch. I don’t shoot professionally, and I love so much about Fuji except their AF.
You can't ask a brand that make "film" camera to make a good continuous AF camera.
i never use AF-C and my XS 20 is the best Camera for me. Always depends what your needs are….
Easy game! Sharper and most in focus is not the fuji one!
Ok Omar, I understand, your wife is the best.
"Hello, Joshua" :)
Again a great intro! 😂😂😂❤ But WTF is AF? I am still stuck in my MF period with ancient lenses. 🎉 😂
I don't want to brag, but I identified the Fuji image everytime lol
Everything I need to know is in the reds
"side chick" LOL
Yo Omar, relax with that wood talk 😂
I never owned a Fujifilm camera, so not a problem for me. But I do own the Nikon Z50 great travel camera. The problem with this camera is also AF and the battery life (sucks).
Oh Noooo .... Don't start another RUclips vigilante mob going after NIKON's Autofocus and battery choice.
Geez though, you might be able to do a whole RUclips channel about NIKON's Autofocus and the battery and the lack of APS-C lens choices, and ....
Do it !!! Do it !!!
You know what weighs absolutely nothing? A camera that can’t be purchased.
A camera with flippy screen to the side is not possible for me.
Nice intro from The WOPR - or "The Wobbler", as i used to say! 😅f course - War Games, what else with Matthew Broderick.
Min. 2:09
I think this video will be blocked for violent content, I've never seen a Nikon hitting a Fujifilm so much 🤣
Let's not forget that Lumix had also gotten better 😮
The best roast is that the cameras are out of stock constantly!
On purpose.
I think when Fujifilm will work in a better autofocus it will dominate the market, their camera are fantastic except for the autofocus
