To dance to music that touched you in the soul and mind, to get out expression, anxiety, frustration, depression, or whatever..... That was our church. glad I was a part of it.
Oh believe me goths do that nowadays. It's just that life is a lot more busy than it used to and events like that don't happen as often unless you drive all over the place.
Yes the 80,s was fantastic I left school in 81 and went into a garage as apprentice 80,s music on all day depeche mode human league etc I almost weep when I think of the great times I had and NO mobile phones
Same here. Left school 1981. Started as an apprentice mechanic at British coal. Apprentice money was shit. My first take home pay was £48. Samuel Smiths bitter was 48p a pint in the local. You could have a hell of a night out on £5 and still have money for the chip shop on the way home. That £48 a week went a long way back then.
I am 38 now and I have always been a metalhead,black and death metal mostly but now as I got older I really started enjoying goth (any sort of goth and dark whatever)..I mean I was always into darkest form of music,even enjoying doomcore,darkcore,funeral doom..but now old school goth is what suits my soul the most.
If they ever invent a time machine I want to go back to the 80's and early 90's.. They were the best time to be alive 🖤 This music is beautiful and I'll definitely be checking out more Darkways 🖤🕸️🦇

Apologies if this has already been posted but Darkways is actually a newish artist from Spain, Marc Perez, with his first release in 2016, DARKWAYS. NEON LIGHTS was just released early last year. I was born in ‘71, so growing up with this style of music I’m amazed how he nails the sound so well.

Yeah, we were called death rockers and it was also called the bighair scene for a minute. The term ‘goth’ didn’t really appear in common use until around 1982. Things may have been called gothic, but it wasn’t used the same way that ‘goth’ came to be used. *waves to fellow death rocker across the intewebs*
Back in the early 90s we used to go to a club in Arizona (Scottsdale) called Atomic Cafe and Sundays were goth night. I truly miss those days dancing among my peers.

Heroes del Silencio meets Bauhaus meets The Sisters of Mercy. Really good Music by Darkways. I grew up in the 80s and look almost the same as the Guys and Girls in the Video. Makes me want to get back to the best times I‘ve had ehren I was young, wild and free.
People who got into goth post 80s will likely struggle to understand what the scene really was. The air was different. The messed up politics and depressed economy, the looming presence of HIV, the nuclear war PSAs on TV - it all lead to an explosion of creativity and love of dark glamour as we kicked back against the void. I imagine there are many parallels with Weimar-era German, particularly Berlin. For those who got into goth in the 90s or later, times had changed and they inherited a scene that was already done. That spark was gone. Now we have a scene that’s inspired by that spark. It’s a very different thing from being the spark itself. I do like a lot of stuff that has come out of the genre since then, but it’s not the same because it’s not riding the cutting edge of anything. It’s rooted in the past. Thats fine, but it just can’t have the same electricity or creative authenticity. I didn’t waste a moment of those years, but I’d love to go back and do it all again!
