on mixing the right color in acrylics. you mix a lot. have to plan for how much you will use, and then you mix it... and here is a tip that is primarily used in miniature painting as far as i know, but works wonderful on regular paintings as well. mix your paints on wet palette! no, not a plastic palette you sprayed with water :P you can buy the manufactured ones or you can make one with a covered tupperware (or something like that) damp paper towel with either palette sheet or baking paper over it (so that you are mixing on your palette sheet, NOT the paper towel). the moisture in a paper towel under your palette sheet (which you can refresh) will keep your acrylic paints juicy and workable for about a week, give or take (you do have to cover your palette between uses)
P.S. these boxes are not joking around, these are some high quality, well established brands that they are using.... (though I've mostly familiar with Sennelier's watercolors, personaly)

@@TemiDansoArt What i do is that when i have mixed a colour that took so long then it dries up its so annoying but you can use a little bit of alcohol(hand sanitizer works the best!) that can melt the acrylic that dried up than you can very easily keep using the dried up paint it can also clean your brushes.

The good thing about those sorts of boxes is that they push people to use art supplies that they wouldn't ordinarily use. You went from saying that you haven't used acrylics in a long while, kinda nervous about the idea, but then increasingly talked about practice and how you could get better over time. That, to me, is an indicator that the box succeeded at its purpose. I really got the impression that you're a bit more inspired to practice painting more often which, if so, is really great! If not these mystery box type things, it would be lovely to see you experiment with paints from time to time.

Did you try drawing digitally? It’s super fun and easy to do, as long as you get the basics! I would love to see what you do!
You’ve done a great job! Best way to extend yourself as an artist is to try new things. A couple of tips about using acrylic paint, mix your purple paint on your palette to get a more consistent colour, use water (it’s another tool in your arsenal and would be a way to smooth out your base layer), speaking of base layer, use a lager brush to get a smoother result. But honestly, I enjoyed this video and I would love to see more! Thanks 😊
Ooh sis I feel you! My first upcrate was 22, and it was freaking OIL PAINT. I've avoided it (and I'm a painter who uses mostly acrylic and watercolor) for my entire life!!! Turns out though I loved it! 😁
I think you killed it with the acrylic! I'd love to see you do watercolor, it's really REALLY challenging but I think you'd do really well because of the way you think (for example you use the white of the page instead of white paint). Anyways loved seeing you try these materials!

That's cool that you picked the more challenging one of the two boxes! Limited color palettes are difficult when using a medium that you are familiar with! So it's impressive that you did so well with one that you weren't! Well done!
I've been subscribing to Upcrate since a long time now and it was fun watching you trying Acrylics again! Ironically this was the box I actually won the battle of with a pink tiger on a blue glitch background! Let me tell you that made me SO proud! 😳 I think you did a very good job on the sky painting though! For the fact that you're not actively painting with acrylics it's very cute and nicely done!! 💕💕

solution to mixing paint, just buy the colour you want. but half the fun is mixing it up yourself and I always end up with extra left over so usually have 2 paintings going at the same time so its not wasted

When I heard about printing's CMYK colors (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) being a better alternative to the regular primary colors for painting, my mind was blown. Makes so much sense!

I like it. It's subjective. In acrylics you mix all of the color you are going to need for the composition at one time so your colors stay consitant.

Acrylic is my main medium. You can mix as much or as little water as you want and use them like watercolours or like oils. Sometimes adding more water and then layering up more gradually is better. I always chuckle at how terrified so many people are of this medium...😂
Don't worry about having technique at this stage. That is how you develop your own personal one by just winging and blundering your way along haha....

Looks atmospheric and magical to me. I think you did a great job, and for us looking in from the outside? We are spared all the frustration, the feelings of it not working out as we wanted, all those struggles and hassles that comes with working with an unfamiliar medium (or well, with familiar mediums too sometimes to be honest lol).
So when we see this painting? We are seeing it with fresh eyes, for what it truly is!!
Stuff this in a box for a year or so and forget about it, then bring it back out and have a look at it again. You'll feel totally differently about it then ;)

To say ive been doing acrylic for quite some time and youve only just started after a long time ,Im impressed ! good job!
It turned out really well, you’ve even got a cloud that looks like the eye of a storm. A lemon yellow would help for green and orange, but I was waiting for you to love the purple and add more pink to get there cos blues can be strong. A cool red, or pink, gives good purple with warm or cool blue. Ultramarine or cyan with magenta 😘 warm red and yellow for a fiery orange, but cool blue with yellow for a bright, fresh green. I love paint, though acrylic gives off some fumes that bother me. You get used to mixing I guess, keep trying a bit more of a colour to get what you want.
I think painters usually do thinner layers first to build up, with oils and watercolour you can get more vibrancy that way, it’s called ‘fat over lean’.

So fun to see you challenge yourself with acrylics! I'm an acrylic & oil painter and am stunned by how you've mastered the medium of colored pencils!! I probably have not touched a colored pencil since high school, and they intimidate me as much as these paints intimidate you. Paint mixing is super relaxing and meditative for me haha.
