I have been fitted several times but I always struggle with my left bra strap slipping off my shoulder! I have been on the search for a bra that is designed to keep this from happening. Thoughts?
Yes! A couple of thoughts: -Have you tightened your straps lately? Just as the band stretches, so do your straps. So, whenever you move in on the band hooks (every 4 months or so) also readjust your straps. Use the two finger method shown in the video! -It's possible that your torso is not symmetrical, so one strap may have to be tighter than the other. Perfectly normal, no shame there. -Lastly, if the two above don't fix the issue, look at your cups for gaping as shown in the video. If there is any gaping, the cups are too big and you may need to size down, which is also translating to poorly fitting straps and that's why they slip. They also make bras with textured straps that have more friction and slip less. I have a Chantelle bra that has them, but I believe the Third Love Tshirt bra has them as well. Those slip way less! Let me know if you have any other questions!
I would like to suggest you, with everything Fernanda has already said, that maybe you could also try bras with straps that cross on your back. These can't fall off your shoulders. For the bras you already heve, I also know there are some "pins" that you attach at your straps, behind your back. That "gather" the straps closer to each other and then prevent them from falling off the shoulder. I'm sorry I don't know the actual name of these as English is not my first language.
There’s a shop in England called Marks and Spencer’s (it’s like a department store) and that’s where I buy my underwear from. I have very small breasts (cup A or B depending on the bra) so I don’t wear bras for support but I have discovered these amazingly soft and comfortable bras from this shop and I cannot wear anything else. The quality is very good and I was shocked to hear you say that one should replace their bra after 1 year of wear because a couple of mine are about 3 years old and they’re like new. The elastic hadn’t stretched and the cups are the same shape as before so I’m continuing to wear them. Edited to add that I have 4 that I wear in rotation and a 5th one that I use in the summer under my wrap dresses as it has a fake cami in front of the bra so when I wear my wrap dresses it looks like I’m wearing a cami but it’s the bra.
Great video! Yes, follow up video, please! Bras are so important but a good yet affordable bra is hard to find. I have struggled to find good bras all my adult life, even though I have small breasts. Other women often tell me I don't even need a bra but that is not true. I may not need support, but I am a teacher and I can't just go to work without a lightly lined bra. I don't like push up bras and I hate wires and things that poke, pinch and scratch. At the same time I want a cute bra. Mission impossible! Anyway, I recently bought a few bras from Intimissimi, which is very popular in Europe. They look beautiful but they don't fit well and after only a few washes they started to look old. I guess I have to keep searching for good bras.
One more hint: I have found that it pays off to notice the brand. Next trip, start with the same brand that fit the best last time. Manufacturers seem to base their new bras on what worked for their sizing previously, so chances are, your breasts matched their ideal better than how your breasts did not match another manufacturer’s ideal. It doesn’t work every time, but often enough that I have used this tip a lot! And YES, but more than one of that perfect bra! Because if it is really great, you will want to wear it every day. And you will wish you had a second one!
I’m in the UK, and Bravissimo is my favourite shop for bras. They are great for ladies with large cup sizes! I am definitely wearing mine past their prime, ooops. I’ve just discovered you, via a RUclips recommendation.
Hi. French here, do you know if Bravissimo have an online store and ship at least in EU? I have generous curves too and I have found my perfect bra on lemoncurve. But it's good to discover something else, just in case or for variety.
Soma Intimates my favorite bra store! I like to go my birthday month and get measured and treat myself to all new undies once a year! Since today is my birthday this video was perfect. I promise to only hand wash my new bras, Fernanda!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! 🎉🎉 What a great idea! Getting bras on your birthday is a fantastic way to celebrate. I hope you have a great day today and this weekend! And yes, please hand wash! It's quicker/easier than you think and they last sooo much longer.
I can't believe how much I found out only from one video! I just discovered your channel and I am already addicted to your videos! Thank you for all the tips! I just ended nursing my second child and I really need to find new bras.
I just bought a couple of new bras last week, and they have made such a difference. I wore my last ones way too long, and even after I lost weight. I was feeling guilty about spending the money, but I can't help having been born with these things. Haha!! Thanks for all the advice and for making me feel less guilty.
Oh my, i think i am using non stop my 3 bras since 2018 😬 But really, they are still extremely confortable and in perfect shape, also they still look nice
Great tips, thanks. I wash my bras in warm water, when I researched it, the “cold” water wash setting means up to 75-80F and that temp won’t damage elastane one bit. Most cold washer settings are much colder than that, filling the washer can bring in water near freezing from the outside. Really cold water doesn’t clean as well or remove as much bacteria. The water should feel lukewarm and comfortable to the hands, not really cold.
Bravo, Fernanda! This is such an important topic. I agree that the right foundation pieces make or ruin an outfit. I have a lingerie capsule for my everyday, workwear needs. My bras are all identical, t-shirt type (no lace, embellishments, obvious seaming across the cup) and as close as my skintone as I can get. That way I can wear them with all of my "going to work" tops, for which I don't need racerback or removable straps, just really good support that doesn't show through my clothes. The bras with lace, prints, and repositionable straps I reserve for non-working hours. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) One needs some of those, too! (PS--yes to the buying the best quality one can afford, and treating them as they investment they truly are!) I'm abundantly endowed and I find Soma, Torrid, Freya, Wacoal, Natori, and Elomi to fit me best.
I think the term "Abundantly Endowed" is my new favorite term! 😂😂 It's too good to not use! I agree with you, the Wacoal & Natori Bras are fantastic! Those are some of my favorites. I love the idea of a lingerie capsule! Creating one for bottoms would super helpful too, I bet. I should do that, actually. Believe it or not my bottom underwear is all sorts of mix-matched 😬
@@vazq_Fernanda Yep, I have a capsule for bras and panties, "work edition". They are all nude, so I can wear them equally well under dark or light clothing, and they all have "invisible edges" so as to not cause visible lines. That way I don't have to rifle through the drawer while I'm getting ready in the morning, pressed for time, looking for the "right" pair to wear under thin linen pants or a clingy dress. Tops and bottoms sort of match because they are a similar hue of tan. I keep the colorful, lacy, strappy, and blingy, items for weekends and sexy times. :-) :-) :-) (PS--I see you love black, so I want to share an idea that you might find useful. I used to keep a small collection of bras and panties that were beige, black, or beige AND black together. So, no matter which bra I chose, there was a pair of bottoms that "matched" it. I have since simplified to "only nude color" and rather plain undergarments for work, but back then, I found the "black, beige, black and beige" to be such an efficient way to go about it, because it gave me variety while keeping my choices within a cohesive color palette, and nothing was ever mismatched, just like in a well-curated capsule of any kind. Plus, some of those black-on-nude pieces looked so alluring! Oh-la-la!)
I am really happy that I talked to you before getting a new bra. The bra I bought after our conversation really made a big difference. It took a bit of getting used to because I was so used to always wearing sports bras but now I don’t even notice my bra. I also haven’t felt the strap slip off which was very common before and my upper back hurts a lot less. I really need to get a second one (or maybe more) so I can rotate and get the most out of them. I never thought that a bra could actually be comfortable. 😅💕
I'm so glad I could help! I didn't even get into the benefits of wearing a bra for posture, but it can help improve it which is why your back hurts less. Your bra really did make a huge difference!
Do the rules you mentioned about comfort and cutting in change fir plus-sized women? I’m not suggesting we wear super uncomfortable- but for instance- I’m barely a B, but I have found because of extra fatty tissue- a must for me is 3 pronged fasteners. I know you don’t have first hand knowledge on the topic, but you are a wealth of knowledge and do a great job of teaching us!
This is a very helpfull video, touches every part of bra's. Currently very pregnant en having many bra's in many sizes in my closet, because of my previous pregnancies and nursing. So I can shop in my own closet😅
Great topic! I'd like another video on the right cup for different shapes, that sounds really interesting and something I never really hear about. And another question: backless dresses - are there options? Are sticky bras any good?
It really depends on the brand and the quality of the adhesive that you use. Personally, I am a fan of not using cups and instead using medical tape to "lift" my boobs up when wearing a backless dress. It looks crazy but it works like a charm, and that's how we do it on actresses. I always get compliments ironically hahaha. I'll see if there is a way I can include this in the next video, but I may have to get creative so that RUclips doesn't ban me! 😬
I recently was professionally fitted and bought new bras. I have lost 10kg and thought it was time to be measured properly. Well, despite losing weight I had actually increased in my cup size 😲 From an Australian DD to an E cup! I am petite, 155cm, with a curvy hourglass figure. I am very self conscious about my bust. I have a small and very short waist/torso and find it so difficult finding bras that fit all my proportions in one bra. The cup will fit but it's too loose in the band or vice versa. I tried so many on, found two that were comfortable and also looked flattering, one was a discontinued line too, so that was disappointing 🙄. Can not agree more with you at how much better my clothes look now. I often would buy minimiser bras but you need to be careful as they can look very unflattering under t-shirts etc. I would love a part 2 on this subject. Thank you for the great information 😊💜
I think we may be similarly sized! Your measurements sound similar to mine, I guess it may just be a matter of the band... the band is more important than people think and I find that most people think they need a bigger band size than they actually do. One more thing: an E cup in a 32 band and a E cup in a 34 band are not the exact same cup size, it's relative! I'll definitely do a video on this, but fit your band first, and the rest gets easier. ❤️
@@vazq_Fernanda Oh, I didn't realise that the band size would impact the cup size also...I thought a DD or E cup etc would be standard. Thank you so much for the information. I truly appreciate it Fernanda 😊 💜💙
@@katem3961 I know! They don't tell you up front, I wish it was more common knowledge. I hope this helps you find something that you like and fits comfortably!
If you don’t have room for a standard drying rack, you can get hangers of various shapes to clip your lingerie onto that take up little space, or you can place them on a dry towel and turn them after 12 hours.
I never realized there was so much information surrounding a good fitted bra. I just know that mine have never fit well, are uncomfortable and I’ve never liked wearing them. And as I’ve gotten a little older (42) and gained a few pounds I don’t like how they look on me either. Most likely because they are too small now. I have never been properly fitted as I never knew where to go to get fitted well. Do these rules apply to a non-underwire bra? I really prefer bras without the wire. Also do you have any favorite brands you’d recommend for just comfortable everyday non-wire bras? Thanks for the very informative video and I’d definitely like to see a second video on this. :)
I don’t wear bras at home, just for the few hours when I go out, which hasn’t been very often during the pandemic especially. So, mine do last a long time. I wear them several times between washings, but air them in between, putting away even a very slightly damp bra is gross and everyone sweats under the band, at least, even in the cold.
True story!!!! They must last you forever. I wear mine even at home, sometimes it's more comfortable to have something on. It depends on my shirt though.
Thank you so much for this video it was so helpful I’m definitely going to try Nordstrom’s for some new bras! I have breast implants and it’s always impossible to find bras that actually fit. So thank you for the great tips!
Some online retailers have better and more Inclusive sizing as well, but it can take a little bit to get the right size. Nordstrom is still my favorite! Good luck!
I just got a bra fitting from a very talented lady who is experienced in fitting people recovering from mastectomies. If you can't find somebody that works with trans or drag communities, somebody that has a similar background should be able to help you find a garment that is comfortable and helps to give you the shape you want.
Not necessarily, that's why I prefer to go by number of wears. "How long" depends on a lot of things, particularly on how intense the exercise you're doing is. If you're running, for example, proper support is better, and in my opinion, more comfortable, than if you're doing mild stretching.
Answer to number of wears: 150 🙃🙄 Question: what is the policy in other countries for fitting during covid? In South Africa we are not allowed to fit clothing in-store and not allowed to return any undergarments/swimwear at all 😷🤨
I have a heck of a time with bras, even though I get a professional fitting at Nordstrom every year. My shoulders are narrow, but I need a larger cup size, so the straps cut across my armpits instead of laying flat on my shoulders. I don’t know why everything has to be cut so huge across the shoulders, mine are well within the normal range, but tops, dresses and jackets are all too wide. I can’t size down because they won’t fit across the bust. I have better fit with petites, even though my height is borderline, 5’4”.
It does sound like you're petite! At the end of the day is not about the height, it's about the proportions, it sounds like the proportions from your shoulders to you chest is better served with petite sizing!
Mmm... honestly, no, all of mine have them. But they are there for a reason, particularly with strapless bras, they are there to create friction against your body and prevent it from sliding around if you get a little sweaty. Are they painful for you?
Thanks for the tips!! 🙋🏽♀️breastfeeding mama here that would love more tips about bras (even if it is not time yet to buy) but also please please please i need tips and ideas on how to build a capsule wardrobe for breastfeeding mums🙏🏻
I've been wanting to do this for a while! Let me do some research and see what I can come up with. I feel that pregnancy/early motherhood is the perfect time for a capsule wardrobe.
Putting Me Together is a blogger who includes recommendations on clothes that are appropriate for breastfeeding. Her suggestions are based on personal experience.
@Jess May The Wacoal strapless bras are my favorite! That's what I have and it doesn't do me wrong. For reference, I wear a 32E so those should work for you too. Here's a link to it: www.wacoal-america.com/bras/strapless-bras/red-carpet-strapless-full-busted-underwire-bra-854119
Also, I want to add that the model in the picture is NOT wearing the right size. They often do that so that it makes their books look bigger, it drives me crazy. But the bra is good I swear!
Me, a man, randomly getting this in my recommended and wanting to look better in my clothes: Hmmmmm..... Is this advice applying to me? Because I feel like I might be the wrong demographic....
To you, I say fit, my friend! Proper fit makes the biggest difference. Take things that don’t fit you like a glove off the rack to a tailor to shape to your body. This can be anything: jeans, shirts, jackets; and you’ll see it makes a huge difference 😉
@@vazq_Fernanda yes! :) they've a huge cult following right now for being more comfortable and environmentally friendly than bras. (gentle all-over compression vs. three elasticated straps, PLUS full adjustability and back support? yes please.) i wore pro-fitted, luxury bras (wacoal, chantelle, savage x fenty, etc.) for years and for me they ALL feel like torture now compared to stays/corsetry. you should do a comparison if you're intrigued, it would probably get a lot of interest :) ps - mine look more 19th cent than 16th lol ;)
Bra sizing is just infuriating. Why can’t my actual measurement under my breasts be my band size? Why do different vendors have different ways of calculating bra sizes? Why does it have to be so complicated? People shouldn’t have to go get professionally fitted for underwear, there should be universal measurements that make sense! I am told Im everything from 32e to 36b, Im just annoyed and over the whole idea.
I'm surprised by your comment because the measurement underneath your breasts IS your band size, and the way I see it, bras are the ONE THING that does have consistent sizing in the industry, and long as they are not just S, M, L, bralettes, etc. There are sister sizes, but it should not deviate so much from a 32 band to a 36 band... if you in fact are a 32 band but get a 36 band - that bra will NOT last! I'm sorry you've had such poor experiences, this should not be the case!
I really appreciate your channel, however, I think underwire bras are very unhealthy due to lymphatic drainage. I am not into this idealized , 'fake look ' of women's breasts. I'm all for modest, comfort and function. But padded, underwire, synthetic bras are basically a very unhealthy and only a result of man- made marketing ( literally man- made). I'm not compromising my health, comfort and mental health for others. I only wear a bra when I leave the house and mostly for 'modesty' reasons. I wear only certified organic cotton, and bamboo material bras that give just enough support to be comfortable. I gave up my big, underwire, , padded bras 10 years ago. Sustainable and ethical brands only. My Green Closet has an excellent video on natural bras. The industry needs to change. If anyone really cares about their health ( especially natural breast health) then I feel we as women need to challenge these so called 'fashion norms'. Ya, burn the bra if necessary!
I'm not sure what bra size you wear, but for me, bras are incredibly helpful at easing the weight off of my back. My boobs are HEAV-Y, and they're not even that big! Whenever I can go braless I do and I have support from a shirt I do, but often times I wear a bra just because it helps ease my back pain to wear it; so I wouldn't say I am doing it for anyone other than my own self. 🤷🏻♀️ To each their own!
I have been fitted several times but I always struggle with my left bra strap slipping off my shoulder! I have been on the search for a bra that is designed to keep this from happening. Thoughts?
Yes! A couple of thoughts:
-Have you tightened your straps lately? Just as the band stretches, so do your straps. So, whenever you move in on the band hooks (every 4 months or so) also readjust your straps. Use the two finger method shown in the video!
-It's possible that your torso is not symmetrical, so one strap may have to be tighter than the other. Perfectly normal, no shame there.

@@vazq_Fernanda 😊💓
I have two bras in Rotation. Bought them in a lingerie store (as always because I need large Cups) and I am still happy with Them 😌
If you don’t have room for a standard drying rack, you can get hangers of various shapes to clip your lingerie onto that take up little space, or you can place them on a dry towel and turn them after 12 hours.
Just really enjoyed learning how they should fit, from band size to shoulder strap. I'm going to use this guide!!!! Thank you.
Hope you get a bra that is SUPER comfy!
Thank you so much for this!!!
New subbie! You are so smart! 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Good luck!
@@vazq_Fernanda Thanks 😊
Awesome video, so helpful! I would be super interested in a part 2 with exactly the topics you mentioned ☺️
Thank you for the tips vary informative
I am a guy that wears bras
wondering how to get a perfect fitting bra
I don't have much experience there, unfortunately!
I just got a bra fitting from a very talented lady who is experienced in fitting people recovering from mastectomies. If you can't find somebody that works with trans or drag communities, somebody that has a similar background should be able to help you find a garment that is comfortable and helps to give you the shape you want.
Great video..thanks❤️
Great video! Thanks
Thank YOU for the constant support! ❤️
Thank you!!
Thank you for being here for every video!!! ❤️
do sports bras last a maximum of one year? I'm not sure about that, I don't wear them that often
Not necessarily, that's why I prefer to go by number of wears. "How long" depends on a lot of things, particularly on how intense the exercise you're doing is. If you're running, for example, proper support is better, and in my opinion, more comfortable, than if you're doing mild stretching.
Your top looks beautiful
why thank you!
Answer to number of wears: 150 🙃🙄
Question: what is the policy in other countries for fitting during covid? In South Africa we are not allowed to fit clothing in-store and not allowed to return any undergarments/swimwear at all 😷🤨
SO helpful!!! 🥲❤️
YAY!! So glad I could help!! Boobs deserve the best!
Can you recommend a good strapless bra without those silicone or rubber strips?
Mmm... honestly, no, all of mine have them.
I’m working on my capsule wardrobe too, babe is 3 weeks. Congrats to you!

What are the best strapless bras for larger busts?
How large are we talking? Can you give me an approximate cup size?
@@vazq_Fernanda 36-38 D in regular bras. :)
@@vazq_Fernanda Thank you so much!!! 🤩
What are your favorite stores to shop for bras? I want to know, especially if you are not in the U.S. and live in Europe, Mexico, Australia, etc!
Marks & Spencer!!! They rock!!! Rumour has it Princess Anne shops there for her lingerie. This UK company are renowned.
@@greenjewel509 Thanks for the tips!!
I have 10. Bras I try not to wear them in a row
Thats a good collection! I have about 9, but two of them are sport bras and one of them.... 😞is shameful. I should have a funeral for it.
Me, a man, randomly getting this in my recommended and wanting to look better in my clothes:
Hmmmmm..... Is this advice applying to me? Because I feel like I might be the wrong demographic....
To you, I say fit, my friend! Proper fit makes the biggest difference. Take things that don’t fit you like a glove off the rack to a tailor to shape to your body. This can be anything: jeans, shirts, jackets; and you’ll see it makes a huge difference 😉
i tend to disagree - for many of us, bras are to be left in the 20th century. i wear a set of stays when i need support as this suits me better.
Stays as in the full-boned bodices from the 16th century?!
Yes, that definitely sounds interesting! I had no idea, but I'm willing to try! Where do you buy them? I would only know of costume stores....
😆
I would be incredibly uncomfortable, physically, without my bra!
