    Capsule Wardrobe planning used to be something that would trip me up every time, until I came up with a system. Every time I would attempt to build a capsule wardrobe from scratch, I would start by pulling everything out of my closet, making a mess, and would end up more confused than anything. Since I’ve started working with clients, I’ve gotten a pretty good idea of how to create a great minimalist capsule wardrobe, and the truth is that it’s not that hard!
    To show you my behind the scenes process, I wanted to take you through how I shop my closet to create an easy capsule wardrobe for summer - I promise that if you follow these steps, wardrobe planning will not be hard!
    Thank you so much to VIVAIA Footwear for sponsoring today’s video - the Vivaia flats are definitely some of the most comfortable I have ever tried, and a great example of sustainable fashion. Definitely check them out!

    I gave Vivaia a go after you talked about it in the previous video. I needed new flats for a friend's wedding and wanted to find a good quality shoe that was comfortable and would last. Not only did I find a great pair but I was blown away by their customer service! The shoes I got ended up being a little too big. It was super easy getting them replaced and instead of having to send back the shoes that didn't fit they said I could keep them and gift them to someone else. It both allows the shoes to still get used and is more sustainable since it doesn't have to go through the shipping process again. I've already started recommending them to family and friends and am working on a wish list for the next pair!
    Video idea: something I don't see a lot of is really casual capsules. Particularly with more graphic tees. I tend to love quirky shirts to add some fun in my wardrobe. (One fave looks like it has an element from the periodic table. Um, called imnotsureium, 'the element of indecision')
    Just not something shown much in capsule examples.

    I usually start with pulling out the handful of pieces I know I will "no doubt" be wearing. For summer, it often includes a few pairs of linen pants (tan, dark blue, and this year, a pair of very light grey joggers), a light blue shirt dress, a flowy, printed sundress, a white linen button up shirt, a white eyelet top, a white tank, a white lace-and-silk cami, a white, cropped blazer, a very light "sand" colored blazer, and a couple of lightweight shorts in tan and navy blue. For accessories, I pull out a pair of beige espadrille wedges, cognac brown sandals, white slip-on sneakers with leather laces, a cork crossbody bag with cognac brown leather strap, a straw bag, and my favorite hats. I build out from those items, and that's when I add the hot pink, royal blue, and emerald green items to enhance my "winter season" coloring!

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  2 года назад +1

      Ooh espadrille wedges... that sounds great!! I might get some for my summer capsule! Thanks for the idea!

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 2 года назад

      @@vazq_Fernanda My espadrilles are Vionic brand (the model's not longer available) and incredibly comfortable, so much so that I can teach in them (stand, run, walk from building to building) all day and all night long and not regret it. If you can find some that you think are cute in that brand (orthopedic, so lots of mumsy to weed through), I wholeheartedly recommend it. If you want traditional canvas espadrilles, try two brands from Spain: Castaner and Viscata. Amazon has a hearty selection of them almost every summer.

    I would love to see a series on the different seasonal colors in a capsule wardrobe for each season in their seasons.
    So a summer palette with outfits for spring, summer, autumn and winter weather.
    Just having one episode for a capsule wardrobe for seasonal color palette in the different seasonal weather.
    I am a summer palette and live in Norway so i cannot have 1 single capsule wardrobe. I need on for colder and warmer weather, and that can survive through rainy days.
    I would love capsule wardrobe for different weather in general, try looking good when u end up in a rain jacket and rain boots because a umbrella breaks in the wind… then going from that to sunny weather, and then to winter with snow… it is a challenge to be stylish and would love some tips

    Hi Fernanda, I absolutely loved this video. I could identify with all you said about shopping. I am a petite winter hourglass with a big bust and short torso! My issue is finding appropriate shaped clothing when my figure is not matching the trend for the season. It can get incredibly hot here (46°c). Boxy or over sized tops look awful on me. I love the cooler months, we are heading into winter in Australia so I'm very happy but it is a short season for us. We are in late autumn and we can still get 30°c days. I often find that even in a petite range of clothing they have not actually accommodated a petite frame, just produced a regular item smaller and it looks hideous on a petite frame. Huge volume of material with large patterns swamp a petite frame. Or the items are aimed at teenages. I have not physically shopped for months. I carefully search online but have found it so difficult. I know exactly what I need but just never find it. I am always looking though just incase I find that illusive item. I have thrifted a few winter items which is great but have very little luck with summer items. Maybe I need to learn to sew my own clothes. Tailoring is incredibly expensive here. It can cost upwards of $30 (aus) to hem a pair of trousers! Just not a viable option. Looking forward to your completed capsule. Thank you, as always, for your amazing content 😊 💗

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 2 года назад +1

      Kate, I have a similar problem, and yes...learning a bit of basic sewing has been a life-saver. I buy "too boxy" shirts and "too long" skirts and pants at thrift shops and do alterations myself, often by hand. There are many RUclips tutorials to help you along. You need A LOT of patience with the projects and with yourself, but it can be done. I wish you luck!

    • @katem3961
      @katem3961 2 года назад

      @@irairod5160 Thank you Arai, you have spurred me on to try. I have very basic sewing skills which I would love to build upon...so I will watch some YT tutorials and give it a try. Good luck to you too in finding some illusive items that fit our unique shape 😊

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 2 года назад

      @@katem3961Thank you! I thought of another "trick" I use. For those boxy things I have to get in order to fit my chest in, I use brooches to gather the back, or those "dress clips" sometimes called "sweater clips". Do you know what I'm talking about? They are a quick way to draw in some of that excess fabric that hangs in the middle of the body on people shaped like you and I. We NEED to show we have a waist, otherwise we look like we're wearing a grain sack!

    • @vazq_Fernanda
      @vazq_Fernanda  2 года назад

      I'm really enjoying this entire conversation! I 100% agree - waist definition is KEY and picking patterns that are proportionate in size to our bodies is going to make a huge difference. The smaller the person, the smaller the patterns & accessories should be.
      I would love to learn how to sew, but I don't think I would make the time to make my own clothes. But I would be happy to find a seamstress to custom-make clothes for me, and I would be happy to pay big $$ for that! Does that service exist? One can hope. Also - I get almost everything tailored!!!

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 2 года назад

      @@vazq_Fernanda Yes, that service does exist, but perhaps not as readily in the big city where you live. I've had gowns made [just a few years ago] while traveling in South Asia. Growing up in the Caribbean, I had all my "event" clothes (quinceaneras, graduations, proms, big birthdays, bridal parties) custom made. It was such a treat to go choose fabrics, trims, embellishments, a pattern...and taking the whole lot to the "modista" o "costurera" to have something made. Granted, I'm in my mid-50s, fewer people sew clothes at home now. My nieces (who are growing up in the town I was raised) have purchased all their event clothes from online sources...so having something custom made doesn't seem to be a thing any more. What a shame!
      I learned how to do some basic sewing just a few years ago. The most complicated things I made were a button-up shirt (collar, curved hem, cuff and 3 buttons at the wrist) and an unlined blazer. They turned out well, but they were so much work, and so time consuming, that they left me little desire to make more of them! Now I mostly do alterations---very simple ones, like raising a hem, shaping of a dress waist, shortening sleeves that are not too complex in construction. What I make a lot of when the sewing bug bites me are crossbody bags, clutches, backpacks, jewelry bags, and other small projects. And of course, the almost 1,000 masks I made in the last 2 years. Sewing to donate kept me sane during the pandemic.

    I find a summer wardrobe so difficult - as most of what I consider summer appropriate clothes, i.e. suitable for 90+degree days, are not things I like to wear, or feel comfortable wearing. I am older, and while not overweight, I do not like my upper arms, my thick waist or my veined legs! I much prefer longer sleeves and pants, and am at a loss as what to wear on a steamy July day! I do like my feet, so wear sandals the minute the weather turns warm! I do like wearing jackets, too. I am short, 5', so many styles are also overwhelming.
