  • hey friends and happy Sunday. my son is having a hard time and I think he is going through topical steroid withdrawal as well as other things. I'm ashamed to say that I don't know what to do for him anymore. but this video is how Im doing, light I've found, and me trying to send you love. we all need love right now.
I have way more fun videos to edit but I don't have the time currently. we are struggling and I'm just trying to stay above water with it all.

Getting stuck into a negative spiral is so hard, and trying to get back to that positive place after that spiral is even harder 😭😭 My heart is acheing for poor Roman, he is so precious and such a strong boy for dealing with this.
I think sharing more about your and Roman journey with eczema would help SO many people and other parents out there who deal with this!!! Honestly Emily you are so strong and brave! You inspire me SO much!!!!!!

I'm so sorry to hear about your son and I hope you can find a solution soon! I know it can frustrating to figure out random health conditions that pop up. Ive dealt with hives for a couple months last year and it took awhile to figure out the cause and it was driving me crazy, lol. Keep strong and I hope for the best!

I am so very very sorry to hear about all that has been going on with your son. I am sending so much light and support your way and I hope that you are able to get answers soon as to what all is going on and how to best help him.
I also discovered that we apparently have a mutual IRL friend! She shared one of your Facebook posts and I was like...wait a second, I "know" Emily! Small world.
(Also, I would love a flip through of your journal! It looks amazing! But only when you have the time and space and margin to come back to RUclips!)

I’m sorry about your son, that’s miserable! I have no history of eczema but a month ago it happened to me and I’m now almost totally healed. It was MISERABLE because if it wasn’t insanely itchy, it was burning and stinging and broken open/oozing clear fluid. I tried so many different things, topical steroids did absolutely nothing for me (even though that’s what 2 dermatologists said to do). What I finally found that works for me personally is washing with sensitive skin wash, pat dry (don’t rub!!) with a clean towel, apply thin layer of Benadryl gel (topical analgesic), then put on eucerin eczema body cream, then top with a good amount of aquaphor ointment. I did this many times per day and anytime I was getting very itchy in between I would alternate between warm wet washcloths and ice! Not sure if that could work for your son, but regardless I hope he feels better soon! It’s a very uncomfortable situation to deal with! ❤

Omgsh Kendra I just screenshot this and might really try it!

@@mynameisemilygood let me know if you do try it and if it works for him. I took progress pictures every couple days just so that I could compare. I would show them to you but I don’t think I can add pictures here. As a heads up, the Benadryl gel does sting on the parts of the skin that are open (even though it says that it won’t), but the singing only lasts for 12-15 seconds (yes, I timed it haha) and then the stinging, burning and itching goes away!

I don’t know how I came across this but I’m sure glad I did! My son has had severe eczema since he was 6months old. He’s now almost 11 and this condition has not gone away despite the eye rolls and comments that it would from other people. It’s been a journey and I feel like every kid is different in what treatment works for them. I was curious if your son has asthma? I’ve noticed a lot of kids have both and one is usually more severe than the other. We’ve used topical steroids, natural remedies, all kinds of things. You do what’s best for you and your son.

Would be absolutely happy to talk with you anytime in greater detail if youd want! Roman does have athsma, he has been hospitalized three times for that.
We started using some natural things right now while waiting to get into a better hospital/more appropriate doctor. He seems to not be declining which is good for me! Thanks so much for commenting. I've found a lot of moms this last week who are going through this same thing. I have my opinions now and am gonna talk about it and I love talking to anyone in a similar situation!

We’ve had great luck with a pediatric dermatologist at a university hospital. She was very helpful. I don’t think many people understand how eczema affects kids. There’s so much that goes into it. We just went on a weekend trip and had to stay in a hotel. That means I have to bring sheets and blankets and towels and soap and loofah and cup from home to minimize a breakout. There’s also not a lot of options for kids under 12 as far as prescriptions go, and lord if you ever hear the commercials for an eczema treatment it’s got some serious side effects. Thanks for replying to me! Great to know I’m not also be in this 🙂
