Rejections can be so hard, especially when there's nothing helpful or constructive added to it. I remember when I was 19 years old and was in a group peer review with a published author. There were about 8 of us in total he reviewed over two hours. He saved the last ten minutes for me to tell me how bad my piece was. No constructive criticism, nothing to take away from it. It was just bad. Looking back on it, definitely not work I look back on fondly, but it still obliterated any drive I had for several months. It took me so long to push myself into trying again, but I eventually did. I hope you take the time to repair your confidence and push yourself too ❤

Reminds me of the lecturer who, for my first essay in my post grad, highlighted a line I had written and commented "ew" 💀
(After, he got a pretty strongly worded email from me about academic professionalism lmao 😅and he apologised)
But it happens to the best of us and there's no need for that kind of 'feedback'. It's unhelpful and mean spirited, and I hope you're okay now and I'm so sorry it rocked your confidence 💛

You are a real inspiration. Not because you're perfect, but because you're vulnerable with us about your doubts and fears that we all share in some form or another. I wish good fortune on you and your loved ones for the rest of the year.

Dear Christy, I don't think you understand just how much you are helping other people write. I never thought I would see myself writing my novel, but seeing you inspired me to chip away at it, and now I have a concrete timeline and research, and a physical draft. I also received two rejections this week for a short story I was proud of, and really, we all suffer through it. But you are so vulnerable and graceful in your suffering. Thank you so much for sharing this journey with us.

It's amazing how much I can relate to you even though we live on different continents, speak other languages, and have different cultures, and yet life for women seeking to be writers today is so similar in so many ways.
My specialty has nothing to do with fantasy literature (rather realistic-existential literature), but your videos captivate me every second you talk about your characters and your novel because you do it with a lot of passion. Thanks for your videos. They motivate me to move forward with my projects. I love them! Thank you so much!

I understand the reaction to people being encouraging when you mention the (real) possibility that your project couldn't work - I find that sometimes when people say things like 'there is _no_ way you won't succeed', 'you'll definitely make it', 'they would be stupid to reject you', it doesn't always reassure me because I can't believe it. There's no way they could know for a certainty that I will succeed. I think, sometimes, milder forms of encouragement work better, people sharing hope with me rather than blind confidence. Of course, this is not to say that people offering the first kind of encouragement are wrong - it might work better for some people and can definitely give a boost - or that I don't believe in Project Teacup. But I understand the pragmatic belief that, no, there's no certainty of success (and that's fine!).

Just when I was a little bit down on my inspiration, this video comes out. Perfect timing.
I don't know if you'll read this, but I found your channel last year about the same time I took up writing fiction after many years of screenplays. You've accompanied me from your channel during all the process, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this.
I want you to know that it's not just Project Teacup anymore: there's a little bit of your spark attached to many other projects.

Another lovely video, as always! I'm so glad to hear that your literary agent has encouraged you to take the time you need for editing your novel. I can only imagine how frustrating it must have felt to be sick and therefore unable to work on your edits. I appreciate you sharing the insight you experienced with one of your main characters while being sick yourself. It's interesting how sometimes when our creative plans get derailed, we end up with a little more time for a story to reveal something new to us. With that said, I'm so glad that you are feeling better! Thank you for sharing snippets of Project Teacup and some vulnerable aspects of your own life. 🤗

So glad you're feeling better. Keep Project Teacup as close to the chest for as long as you need to. That choppy sea and wobbling sensation reminds me of how some people experience vertigo. I felt it for several weeks many years ago, and it was so bizarre. It felt there was a force pushing me backwards all the time, and the only way I could feel "normal" was to sit on a chair with a very straight back -- so I felt fine driving. But standing and walking was not fun. ^K^

I'm going through something similar, possibly CFS but not sure yet, and I'm a writer as well. It's so hard to balance writing, let alone life in general, when your body aches and brain fog gets the best of you. And mental health. Wow, you had cfs. I have had mecfs since I was 13...that is 1994. I still have it ...but I also write about symptoms in my books. In my current WIP my mc has multiple chemical sensitivity and orthostatic intolerance and funnily enough I just wrote a scene today where she faints.
I don't faint as just get stuck in pre syncope with low blood pressure but it suited the moment as mc just went through a lot physically.
Anyway I didn't know that about you
I don't stand in the shower.
It's the low blood pressure that makes showers hard, can't remember why. But I missed 2 1/2 years of high school and could hardly do anything in first six months...and the brain fog made reading hard.
I managed to read The Queen Of The Damned and The Witching Hour in those years thougn, even though some pages I'd just have to re read 10 times then give up from cognitive dysfunction / brain fog/ short term memory issues
Btw I reckon the old guy in library probably thought you looked lovely as in his prime women woulld have worn blouses like that. It's very pretty

I am a rejection veteran, and I can tell you from experience that when one is "the Real Thing" and what they produce is "the Real Thing" and they keep trying, there comes a time where these rejections are just memories tuning into wisdom. You are the Real Thing, and this Rule of the Universe won't miss you. Enjoy the 'waiting'.
Second, I have a chronic illness and I can relate to every word you said and more. This is a personal thing but I'll share it with you: each and every hardship in this life are my way of coming closer to my Creator. Bottomline, depending on everyone's perspective, hardships are more useful than meets the eye.

Go for it! You could start by making the videos at first, playing around with formats, documenting your process first and foremost FOR YOU, just to get used to being behind the camera. Then post them (or switch them from private to public) when you feel ready. One of the good ways to start can be doing youtube video tags, such as booktube newbie tag, or authortube newbie tag. It's a way to warm up and also you've got the algorithim (through the tag) helping you out a bit.

Rejection is crazy. As a fashion designer in a fashion capital i have had my complete fill of rejection... So much so that i dont even consider myself to be a "public" artist anymore... I now only make my work for myself and only people that i like... Apparently ive been wayyy too nice, wayyy too open but not prestige enough. Ok then i say.
Doesnt matter that i can tailor nice jackets and even deposit hundreds of hours of hand embroidery onto pieces... Doesnt matter that i havev the education to get dressed and step outside in complete elegance. I'll just have a nice brand of my own that dont share with people because ive only known these "adults" to be a waste of time.
I am a man that has sacrificed too much to move forward anyway else. 💀

She's got a literary agent now. So she has a chance of getting it published traditionally. Should watch the Querying Journey video, it's really good. Self publishing isn't for everyone, or isn't a first choice for everyone.
I want to be published traditionally.

    Cannot wait for project teacup!
    I only have one question:
What do you think of books that have first person point of view (first POV)?
I’m just trying to get out of my comfort zone and try something new
    But love the vlog! ❤❤❤❤❤❤

I don't have a preference for FP or TP. I just want the voice to be strong :) FP can sometimes be better for more introspective stories ('Norweigian Wood' or 'Perks of Being a Wallflower' for example), but there's no specific rules. I would try everything you can to find what works for you. Best of luck with your writing! 💛💛

If it doesn't get published, sell it as an ebook for $1 so everyone can read it and maybe you even earn some pocket money 😊
