  • So you've bought a Baofeng UV-5R, GT3, or UV-82 variant due to peer pressure on Arfcom or Reddit; ...but now what?
In the past year, I have studied each and every feature and function of these radios, and how to program them properly.
This video continues the process of using Chirp software to program a UV-5R. It includes the explanation of the fields on the Basic, Advanced, and Other Settings tabs.

Bought a BF-F8HP and struggled my way through CHIRP over the last few days to get some channels programmed. Wish I had watched this series first. Thanks!

at 14:57 , it says VHF TX enabled and UFH TX enabled. If those are disabled, can you still listen but not transmit?

I have a Baofeng BF-F9V2+. Chirp website says to use BF-F8HP. In Chirp I click on Radio -> Download From Radio. I see all the memory frequencies in the right pane. However when I click on Settings in the left pane, the right pane is blank. I did a Reset from the Baofeng menu, same thing. How do I get all the Settings fields in the right pane as shown in this video?

Since that specific model’s firmware is not compatible with chirp, your best bet is to find a downloaded copy from someone’s BF-F8HP on the internet. You should be able to upload that to your radio, replacing the stock firmware that chirp can’t fully recognize. If you do that and the radio remains functional, download that from the radio and proceed with the instructions.

Thanks for the videos. They are great.
I have a BaoFeng BF-F8HP. When I click the settings button in CHIRP, no settings are listed in the settings box. The box is completely blank. I can change the settings by using the radio's keyboard. Does CHIRP work for the F8HP, or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks for any help.

Since your specific radio’s firmware is not complete, your best bet is to find a downloaded copy from someone’s BF-F8HP on the internet. You should be able to upload that to your radio, replacing the stock firmware that chirp can’t fully recognize. If you do that and the radio remains functional, download that from the radio and proceed with the instructions.

@@Super-Predator Thanks for the info. It turns out that I purchased a fake Baofeng BF-F8HP from a store on Walmart.com. Apparently, Baofeng has a serious problem with people selling fake BF-F8HP's. Here is a link to the page on Baofengtech.com where they tell you how to know the difference between their BF-F8HP and a fake:
      baofengtech.com/bf-f8hp-and-counterfeits-their-differences-and-how-to-spot-a-counterfeit-bf-f8hp/
I informed Walmart that a third party store is selling counterfeits on their website. I returned it and received a refund.
I just received a real Baofeng BF-F8HP today. When I download from the real BF-F8HP via CHIRP, I see the setup info just as you showed. So, that problem is solved.

License is $35 not $80 and don't waste your money on a program cable, program from front pad easy and can do in the field.
