Great job thank you. Regarding the COM port issues: plug the cable into different USB ports, when it finishes installing the driver it will say what com port it is. Mine wasn’t being recognized I plugged into COM 7 and it showed up on the list. Ration still didn’t communicate but the reason was the connector wasn’t fully plugged into the radio, takes a bit of force to get it in all the way. First time plugging it in felt fine but needed to be pushed on all the way. Hope it helps. Again thank you so much for explaining how to set up and use this radio your information is invaluable.
Thanks for the great tutorial! It took me a few days to understand I need to push to cable into the radio until it clicks. Only then did Chirp recognize my radio. It would be great if you did a tutorial on how to use as a walkie talkie for those of us without a Ham license.
Nice work buddy, thanks. I'm awaiting delivery of my first HT set in a couple days, so I'm appreciating this preview of what I need to do to get up and running.
Installed Chirp under UBUNTU Linux. Radio was at /dev/ttyUSB0. Didn't work first time so ran Chirp with "sudo": > sudo /usr/bin/chirpw to have root access. Not sure that was necessary. Had to go through the motions two or three times power up power down unplug plugin... Then it worked! with my Baofeng UV-5R.
I just had to auger my through setting up "split" DCS tones on a repeater. Tone Mode = Cross, DTCS = 624, DTCSS RX = 116, DTCSS POL = NN, DTCSS Mode = DTCSS -> DTCSS. The club does this to keep the repeater private for dues paying members only.
I'll be going hunting with a bunch of guys in the next couple of weeks. It'll be in pretty dense bush. Can you give me an idea what settings you would choose to use to maximize range/distance of broadcast and reception? We have 2 moose tags, and have to be able to stay in touch with each other should we have an opportunity to bag a moose, don't want 1 set of guys shooting both and then another set of guys shooting another putting us over our limit. Not sure if we should be attempting to connect to a repeater, as it's a fairly remote location. Any help greatly appreciated. Love the video, very well presented, clear and concise.
Radio/Import menu is missing when I install the current release. With a Legacy version it is there. I get the same issue on a Win 10 and a Win 11 laptop. I've uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled several times and still don't have Radio/Import. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Great video very easy to follow but I'm having a problem at the beginning with chirp recognizing my radio the only port option it gives me is COM3 when I hit ok it goes to cloning process then says error occurred radio did not respond cant get past that point volume on radio all the way up
You may not have a genuine programming cable. You will have to find the right driver for the cable online. There are many out there depending on the cable and op system used.
dude, these are great videos! very clear and in depth. def appreciate them. im having trouble getting my mirkit cable to work. says the ftdi chip is suppose to automatically download the driver but its def not and windows cant locate a suitable driver for it. wouldnt happen to have any advice on that would you? thanks again brother
Go to Miklor.com and search it using the term Driver. It should list all the drivers for all the different cables. From there you can install the right one manually.
@@Super-Predator you are the freakin man! ive spent 2 days talking to mirkit and doin all this craziness and 10 minutes after reading your comment im downloaded! now to continue on with the series!

I’m trying to download from the radio Baofeng UV-82 and none of the listed COM ports are responding. Errors and access denied messages.
Great video, videos, however as I hook up my baofang to the computer everything shows up except for COM’s port.

how do I find port?
Is there gonna be a test at the end of the video, and if so, go ahead and mark me down for a "D-" or an "F" and save us both the hassle...!! LOL

Make sure the volume is turned all the way up when you attempt to clone.
Your driver might be out of date. In device manager under Ports you should see Prolific USB-to-Serial Com Port. Mine shows as COM4.
What state are you located in? I’d love to do those Coca Cola warrior shoots. I live in the Peoples Republic of California.
