Love, love, love this video and the message. It breaks my heart that there are people out there that would send hate to a father who is sharing something with his kids that I'm sure is very special to him. I can't tell you how happy it made my sister and me that her daughters love to play video games. We love getting to share and play the games we grew up with with them and seeing how much fun they have is priceless. My parents had my sister and me playing Atari and NES when we were around the same age as your daughter. I guess you could say we're carrying on a family tradition. These are honestly some of our best memories growing up.

I'm sad that I got into retro collecting a little too late, since everyone's in on it now and people found out how to maximize profit off of it
As much as I like to play on original hardware, it takes a lot of room and money of course, and a lot of the time I just go to emulate the games on my pc. I collect and play the way I want to, and other people should play and collect how they want too, and not feel bad about it. Not everyone has time, money, or space for people to play games how gatekeepers want them to. Some aspects of certain games are lost on new hardware, but most of the time it really shouldn't matter to a normal person as long as they have access to the game. If people don't want to haul a 200 pound crt into their home that will probably break in the next year, they don't have to, and they shouldn't get flamed for it. And they shouldn't have to buy them for $300 from a reseller that knows they are scamming people.

  • @jerryancel6944
    @jerryancel6944 Год назад

Honestly, if companies worked more on preserving the past games and making them available on each system digitally, we probably would eliminate most of the issue with retro collecting. Most people just want to play a game they remember as a kid that they can't find anymore, or a game they didn't know about, and it pops up on their RUclips feed and it piques their interest.
If you could just boot up your Xbox, Playstation, or Switch and download it between $5-15, the sellers would have to drop their prices.

I mean, clone consoles introduce issues themselves from introducing glitches to ripping contact pins off the cart. Destroying the game or just damaging it.
Also, a 22 to 24 inch crt is lightweight and small enough to enjoy. Also literally the only way to play a light gun game with a lightgun. Also they're free, if you're paying hundreds for one then you're making a big mistake and being taken advantage of
There are plenty of great games on each console that are under sub 30 usd and many under 10. So yeah
Also price will drop rock bottom just like Atari 2600 and colecovision etc

I understand wanting to just collect the game but I open my old games I buy to play. I make friends cry because they can’t stand to see a brand new classic opened lol. I never plan to sell any of my clsssic stuff. My kids use them as well. You can see the years of west and tear of someone’s old system and think how many good memories were made playing these devices.

Earthbound never made sense to me, it was everywhere for years after the SNES was discontinued. I literally bought 2 new copies that the Walmart I was at had for $2 each at the freaking midnight launch of the GameCube. I did it just because I got tired of seeing them sitting on the shelf lol. The best way to combat the price gouging is they need to rework copyright and say if a company doesn't release the game in some form after say a decade, it's public domain but not for resell, something like that.

I respect the collector’s perspective but me, I play these games because they’re fun. It’s true that retro gaming is so expensive that most of us can’t play them on native hardware.
Look whether it’s in retro gaming, music, politics, or what ever, gate keeping is so wack and I’m glad you guys called it out. Also screw anyone who would say disparaging things about kids. Losers, all of them.

I used to have a separate webcam on the systems I streamed on, whether it was an original vintage console, an aftermarket clone system, or some random modern system with NO "prestige" like the Wii U, but I stopped because I didn't want to be seen as seeking clout, I just thought the means by which people played their games was interesting. This was especially true of my Analogue consoles, I only have those because I wanted to play my childhood copies of the game in real-time while I reminisced about them, and I think the alluring mystique of exclusivity is so unwarranted.
Just play the games in a way that's attainable and meaningful for YOU.

Checking in from 3 months in the future. You get that Nintendo Power graded? Typically I don't like graded items because it renders the media sterile. Games should be played, comics should be read, etcetera, but from a preservative standpoint I fully support the effort. That's so cool that you have such fondness for that magazine and it would probably bring you happiness to be able to display it. You do you.
Gatekeepers are super easy to deal with. Ignore them. I've got my Switch and my GameCube hooked up to a giant flat screen TV in my office. If anyone told me I was doing it wrong the answer is, "Whatever kid. Stay off my lawn and go do your homework." Seriously, don't let these people live rent free in your brain.
I find it amusing that I have been labeled a retro collector by the sheer fact that I've held onto the stuff I bought 25 years ago. I loved the items, so I kept them. It is what it is.
Happy gaming everyone. Play however makes you happy and spread the joy.

I have the same problem and beef you guys have no game is worth big money no game I don't care it it's 10 20 30 Year old. No game is worth big money or consoles. All it does is hurt the people who really actually want to enjoy the game they get. Silent Hill, Illbleed, Mario games it's just people who try to get the highest price for it. I think the only games your able to get cheap are the Sega Genesis games and some Nintendo NES. Every other consoles are a headache to collect.

I wouldn’t be the retro gamer and collector I am today if I only got to experience old games from watching RUclips and replaying some stuff that I had personal experience with from when I was younger. It’s also because I got to play rereleases and remakes of old games, getting a super trio, and even my old (and pretty bad) atgames genesis and playing most of this stuff on an lcd tv and eventually a gaming monitor. Now I love games and consoles that I had no nostalgia for and even ones from before I was born. I still get introduced to even more retro games with official rereleases and remake’s because it’s cheaper and easy in many cases and I keep finding games that I want to get the old original versions of because of that. I love original hardware and crts now but I know just because that’s my favorite way to play it doesn’t mean it’s has to be like that for everyone and I am just happy when I see others are enjoying retro games especially when it’s people like me who have a great time with ones from before they were before the were born no matter how they play them.

I will not say that encapsulating a game or a comic (which are meant to be played and read, respectively) is inherently dumb because I understand the rationale of preservation, but the most ridiculous part of grading games is that they are not even worried about the functionality of the game itself. I mean, it could be broken in half inside the sealed box or a factory error with a completely different game in it (which happened to me when I bought Mario Bros 3 the week it was released). Video games are made to be PLAYED, which means they have to WORK. However, all WATA (and other services that grade games) is concerned about is the condition of the box, art, and, if applicable, how well the heat-sealed plastic and hanger tag has held up. At least with comics, they make sure all the pages are in the book and no coupons are cut out that would affect the readability of the story if the book was not encased in a plastic shell. Ridiculousness at its finest.

There will be a crash at some point - it’e inevitable. Most of the people shelling out money are doing it out of nostalgia; we’re trying to recapture our childhood. Most of my collection was kept from my childhood, but I completed it in the early 2010’s before prices went crazy. At the end of the day, the next generation will inherit these from us. Frankly, anyone thinking these will retain value is incredibly naive. I’ve been saying this for years (and these sentiments have been echoed by Pat and Ian): do NOT get into video games as an investment! Do it because you love old games, do it for nostalgia, do it because you enjoy the hunt. But if you think you’re going to sell these in 20-25 years and be able to retire, you’re playing with fire.
I’m appalled by the price gouging going on. Personally, I don’t care if prices plummet. It’s not why I collect. I hope everything bottoms out so the douche bags trying to price gouge get absolutely burned.

I watched that video as soon as it was posted, and I just had to applaud RGT's honesty. I'm pretty sure more ppl on YT will come out and say the same. WATA grading that damn Mario 64 was one of the worst things to happen to the retro community. If you havn't seen Madlittlepixel's video on the WATA graded 4,000 bootleg of Rondo of Blood, that is also highly recommended. Theyre supposed to be "experts" at grading. Well expert my ass! Also, the sad thing is that Mario 64 will sit behind plastic and never be played, ever. Games were meant to be played. And play them on whatever the hell you want. I have the original consoles myself, and I play them through a Retrotink. But I also have a Retropie, and I love the thing. The only real crime would to be of these games get lost to time, never to be played again. If would make me very sad.

Even Nintendo states this with the motto for the Nintendo Switch. It’s your way to play! There is no wrong way to play a game! The only bad thing is people price gouging on kids and collectors and making fun of people who play old games. I love playing retro and modern gaming. My dad got me into the original Super Mario bros. And he tells me his memories of his gaming days and he still plays games with me. I think graded games will kill the collecting. Theres been some people claiming Wata has graded repro games and people are grading like modern games which is insane. Look at the sports card market. I think also with the continued making of mini systems... The games will drop off in price. Look at what happens when they added N64 games to switch. Seems like as soon as they did, the N64 game prices dropped off. I think it all depends on the generation of people and what age they are.

At the end of it all at least my children are being raised right with original hardware on a CRT. Not under false pretenses with emulation and pixelation.

I am allowed to have negative opinions on a company and give my honest review. You must not have been around RUclips very long 😂 saying a company charges outrageous prices is not a crime 😂
