And the original PS3 was backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games. If they had a PS5 Pro that was fully backwards compatible all the way back, I might consider it. Throw some slots in there for PSP and PS Vita, even better. But you're spot on.
How anyone can interpret the stand, which can't cost Sony more than less than a dollar for each unit, not being bundled in the 700 USD is as anything other than a legit middle finger to their costumers is wild.
RE: The stand, I bought a PS5 Slim back in November, and all the marketing were showing it sitting vertically. I'd spoken to friends who all said their OG PS5 included the stand. Well, to my surprise, the Slim didn't include one, only small plastic feet to help it sit horizontally. The thing that frustrates me about the PS5 Pro is that they're doing the same exact thing via marketing that they did with the Slim and they're being very vague about it, and this is only fueling the fire further. My guess: Sony backpedals, says they will include the stand and 1-year PS+ Premium.
He hits the head in the nail they will offer their bs online service as "added value" because double paying is k, according to them. I am going PC I already pay for my internet, I won't pay twice. Only reason before was exclusives and cheaper hardware, no reason now.

The nerve to try and sell the pro for 700 and it doesn't even have a disc drive is so crazy. That's the biggest thing for me. So ridiculous and I really hope they lose millions on this one to maybe wake them tf up.
I'm glad that I stucked with Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, Xbox and Playstation have a great huge library of games, but Nintendo has a lot of great exclusives. I also own an Xbox Series X and PS5 to play Persona, but I've been playing the switch a lot lately because they're the only ones releasing decent games. Out of all of them, the only ones who need an upgrade should be Nintendo, but they don't care about making good graphics. They care about entertainment.

Nintendo instead of directly competing with MS and Sony created they own league and and in the lead, but also they are far in front of MS and Sony.
I believe both MS and Sony changed the market by opening to PC. Do not get me wrong more people having access to more games is pro customer move. But at the same time it is changing the business model these companies were using for like a few decades.
All 3 earn on selling things in their stores. Every game, mtx, dlc they take 30% cut, on top of that they require customers pay for online which is free on PC. So opening to pc might result in lost console sales. First from people who had both consoles and PCs, later from those who might migrate to PC.
MS was first, with adding games to MS store to leverage their platform, when this did not work as expected they started doing Steam releases day one. Sony which was in better position than MS didn’t have to do it, yet they copied MS which is strange as usually it is the one on last place coping the leader not the other way round.
So they created a situation which now they have to deal with. Gaming will for sure see more changes.
To me ps5 pro for 800eur + disc drive + stand is not worth it. Assuming I have a 1000eur for entertainment budget I would not choose ps5 pro, probably I will choose some other hardware.

There are handheld PCs, Mini PCs, Prebuilt PCs, and Laptops that can all provide a console like experience. In my opinion, one of the major advantages of consoles was physical copies of games. Now that they are pushing for digital only, there are no advantages anymore. It would actually make more sense for Sony and Microsoft to make their own versions of the Steam Deck, if they only want to sell hardware.
in fact, since the steam catalog doesn't expire and console digital stores do, to me that's a pretty obvious point in steam's favor
I just snagged a PS5 last year and won't be touching this shit with a ten foot pole! Sony and Microsoft used to be gaming titans of the industry, and unfortunately, they're more concerned with touting console specs nowadays than producing quality 1st party games! At least Nintendo is knocking the ball out of the park in that department, and I am definitely looking forward to what they're coming up with next!

Like 649€, that would have been my magical line. Selling my ps5 slim and then putting in top the rest. But 800€ and not even a CD-Laufwerk. That’s just a rip off
I have a factory sealed copy of Bugs Life for the Ps1 on display in my collection. It’s worth nothing to most people but to me it’s priceless to me since it was my very first video game. 100% agree that it’s about the games not this scammy hardware that has nothing to offer other than a chunk of your bank missing. Cant wait for Silent Hill 2 though, I’m actually interested after seeing gameplay.
I have a PS5 just to play Tekken 8 and SF6. And my Switch is still the only console I look forward to seeing what games are coming out next. I really don't care about the same old generic games being released over and over and the selling points just being improved graphics. At least Nintendo on their highly outdated hardware keep finding something fun to give us!

They really didnt read the room with this one. Be surprised if there isnt some sort of pushback ie, including the drive etc. With Switch 2 being just around the corner (at a probable MUCH lower price) Sony seems to be targeting a very small, niche market with this model. The stand just screams greed to me. Its your flagship model... cost would be negatable to Sony but here we are yet again with their arrogance....
The fact that you ca still pick up a gameboy color and play pokemon red, shows you need physical copies of these games because at some point the severs might close (concord) and no longer have access to the game. Sony is on this "trust me bro" with the no disc drive is just laughable

Yeah man. Ever since I got into PC taking last year, I’m content with that and whatever Nintendo console comes around to compliment it. Plenty to play.
I don't think I have 800€ (In my European country it will be even more because we have to import most things) just laying around somewhere to buy a console that is capable of playing: Oh wait what!? Ah yeah there's no games (exept Astro Bot but that is basically it).

GTA 6 needs alot of power. Sony knows it stutters and stammers running on current console. It's taken near a decade to just make the game. . Think about the Memory it would take to run. The PS 5 is not gonna cut it. But the NEW machine will play GTA 6.
Ps5 runs cyberpunk 2077 at 4K 60 fps on performance mode, im perfectly fine with Gta 6 being 4K 30 fps.
If you really need that smoothness then it will be worth it for you.
