The bus fight scene was very believable-no music, no quick cuts as they had said-it shows the brutality and ugliness of a real fistfight, street-fight, because Mansell is getting his rage out, taking his time, savoring every moment even while getting bloodied up himself.
The first 2 punches were like most bar fights but then when he hit his head, I thought, wow , that happens in real life. Then the fat dude punches him below the skull and he gives him a brutal elbow to the face. AWESOME!!
It took them months to prepare that one action sequence. Yet the Oscars refuse to give Stunt Coordinator's an Award Catagory. It seems like Stunt Coordinator's put more work in than the script writers do these days.
Have you seen the Oscars recently? It is all a complete circleje.k ... and nothing proves that more than Will Smith slapping Chris Rock and then getting an Oscar later on TO A STANDING OVATION. "Back in the old days" ... Harvey Weinstein bought the Oscars ... but NOTHING has changed since he is out of the picture. tl;dr FFFFF the Oscars!
He also made it very realistic, as a top trained "cleaner" knowing what to do to the T, but Age and years inactive have taken their natural toll, making him find he's not the same he used to be, now much rusty and not as fast as he used to be. That added realism, with Bob acting such personal inner drama under the action moves of routine -unusual no routine moves refreshing and well choreographed, had everybody more impressed than if he was a flawless fighter killing in vertigo speed and impeccable John Wick style. This two had in hand a formidable team dynamic brought to action films hand combat routines elsewhere so predictable.
I loved this scene because it's believable. Meaning he didn't take them down with ease, showing signs of rust. With no over the top crack or pop sounds. In other movies the dudes arm bent backwards you hear bone breaks. Here you hear ligament tears, the little things.
To me it's still not believable to be able to beat 5 russians all alone, even with them being drunk. But still more believable than most of Hollywood fight scenes
Honestly Hutch knocking off the 'rust' was the biggest things that sold me on Nobody. Don't get me wrong, I love the John Wick movies. But After years of being out of the game, his first fight back it was like he never lost a step. That ain't how life works. That's ESPECIALLY true for middle aged men.
@@Inthatgoodway It's true, it varies sometimes. But 3-5 years in your mid-late 20s to early-mid 30s isn't the same as 3-5 years in your late 30s to any point in your 40s. It's safe to assume that Wick's age is close to or the same as Keanu Reeves' which is 53 at the time of filming the first of the series. It takes a long time to hone your skills and build the reputation Wick has earned. At that age, it takes time for reflexes to come back, and longer to recover from injuries.
I saw this movie a couple nights ago, and watched it again last night and I loved it. Especially the fact that the crazier things got, the happier Hutch looked
Love him. Been a fan since the Mr Show days. He's living my dream. I would die happy to be given the opportunity to do what Bob Odenkirk got to do here.
Jackie Chan would be happy with your approach to filming the fight. Heros getting hurt is what made Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, Bubba Hotep)so much fun to watch. You are using some excellent source material.
This was such an enjoyable movie to watch. Actually, this was my 1st movie in a theater since covid.... Like a year and a half! This was exactly the movie to see in a theater. So fun!
On the subject of having few cuts as possible in fight scenes nothing beats the corridor fight scene from the Korean version of the Oldboy film. It is epic due to the fact that it is shot in one take with no cuts and nearly 4 minutes long. For those who haven't seen it look it up on RUclips and you won't be disappointed.
8:19 "I wanted to make a not ironic action movie", "I wanted to be good". All of Bob's proposals about the film were fulfilled. Certainly one of the best action movies of the year
This movie was fantastic. Watch it lasted night then watched it again. It was so down to earth and such a rush! Excellent acting by Odinkirk and the rest of the cast and fight crew!
Nice to see a trend towards a type of vulnerability in action flicks. We need more scenes like this, and the stairwell fight scene in Atomic Blonde. Bernhardt is a beast.
1:51 see how the tall guy grabbing the support pole doesn't laugh with everyone, but gives in to the peer pressure a second later. He waa the smartest. Waited and watched. Didn't engage hand to hand. Used a knife. If he stabbed the back of his neck instead of ribs, a real fight would be done. Plot armour. I like it. The kinda movie I'd pay to watch.
Thats the massive charm of Odenkirk- He manages to add some comedic essence in a action intense movie with extreme violence. Love this guy man, so precise with his craft.
It is actually really refreshing to see the hero get hit first and suffer the pain and injury from the fight like anyone else would. It makes him more relatable and is also realistic to how a real fight looks even with training and experience. Awesome scene!
This was the scene that fascinated me to watch the movie ... and I must confess, it was absolutely gratifying... the whole idea of a "vulnerable" hero, whose darkness was gradually unraveled throughout the span of the move, totally blew me away; and yes, we've not seen this kind of unassuming frail-looking badass main character in a long while. Well done Bob.
he is one of the first guys to include drama and comedy not only in his movies but also in his fight scenes. He also knew how much work it is and how time consuming it is to shoot well crafted fight scenes. Thats an aspect that hollywood tends to avoid and additionaly keep the actors safe. Gareth Evans is another director who seems to understand that style, at the moment there is noone better.
This is a brilliant scene from start to finish begging for the guys to get on the bus thinking to himself the girl is going to get home safe tonight loved every second of it.
I love how they dont just bouce right back after a punch. A punch to the face will mess you up more than most movies realize. They all did come back multiple times but there were very distinct rounds in this fight with long enough pauses for the people to collect themselves
First time listening to Bob and I am like that voice sounds so familiar! Then it hit me when I listened to it again with my eyes closed. He sounds EXACTLY like late Steve Jobs!!
To be honest, whether it was for comedic effect or not, I'm all for more realistic fights where the hero (or anti-hero) isn't perfect, isn't this merchant of death with psychic-like levels of skill and awareness.
I have no Idea if this will ever reach Bob or the stunt crew but... when I watched the movie for the first time it was exactly as he says, I thought "what the heck is this guy doing...." and the hitting head phase was just as surprising and real... AWESOME. I've watched the movie three times in last two weeks and enjoyed it enormosly. Thank you!!!)
pretty good, but the Gold Standard for a confined room fight sequence - the one that all others try to emulate - is the one from "From Russia With Love". Robert Shaw ( RIP) and Sean Connery (RIP). That was something else.
I just recently watched this scene. I really enjoyed it. I am a fan of action stars such as Tony Jaa and Jason Statham. I agree totally with your comment about the character hitting his head. More action movies should have these kinda 'sloppy' fights as you put it. It makes the characters human, fallible, and ultimately more relatable. Yay for Bob Odenkirk, you're my next rising action star to watch. You could give Liam Neeson a run for his money.
The bus fight scene was very believable-no music, no quick cuts as they had said-it shows the brutality and ugliness of a real fistfight, street-fight, because Mansell is getting his rage out, taking his time, savoring every moment even while getting bloodied up himself.
I LOVE that there’s no music. It’s the easiest way to add realism to any fight -- kill the music.
So who’s going to tell them?
The first 2 punches were like most bar fights but then when he hit his head, I thought, wow , that happens in real life. Then the fat dude punches him below the skull and he gives him a brutal elbow to the face. AWESOME!!
What was realistic about that you div
yeah, there was totally music there in case you missed it..
Bernhardt is awesome. So glad to see him enjoying a career resurgence in recent years.
I've actually been a fan of this guy since his cheesy blood sport sequels.
Been a huge fan since 96 and would love to have seen him reach super star status.
Been a huge fan since Bloodsport years. but he deserves more than a supernumerary actor. I hate to see him like this.
Coulnt agree more, huge fan of Bernhardt, I discovered him through MK Conquest though but I go out of my way to watch anything he's involved in
I loved him on the matrix reloaded, Thts how I was introduced to him as a kid
Daniel Bernhardt is one of all time
Underrated action guys
He has the talent and looks
Also charming dude
Big love for him

Dropping the bullets before the fight like the kingsman locking himself in the pub before the fight. Maximum balls, can't wait to see this.
Its possibly better then John Wick 1 which says alot...fkin movie is absolutely perfect IMO

Exactly. And Daniel being the one to fight in “Barry” was also very realistic. This guy is good.

Totally agree but he deserves better roles.
Literally one of the greatest ever movie fight scenes.

This movie was fantastic, it's great to see how the "John Wick guys" are saving the action genre
Daniel deserves bigger roles than what he gets. Very talented guy. Been a fan since I was a kid from the Blood Sport 2.
I absolutely agree. He deserves way more recognition.
3,4 as well
He’s like a much sexier, more talented John Hamm. He was amazing in “Ronny/Lily” on Barry.
Hopefully, he will return as Agent Johnson in Matrix 4, which is great !
Such a waste for those directors only allowed Danial to play the characters like thugs or henchmen.
Love him. Been a fan since the Mr Show days. He's living my dream. I would die happy to be given the opportunity to do what Bob Odenkirk got to do here.
He's literally Saul Goodman in real life lol
Is he? Doesn’t seem that much like him.

Daniel Bernhardt is a amazing martial artist.
They nailed it with this movie. Loved it. Can't wait for the sequel.
Daniel is so under rated, I really hope to see him get bigger roles. Loved him in altered carbon.
Yeah
Agree at 100 %!!!!
Anyone else think Bernhardt looks like a young Sean Connery?
If he ran full speed into Jim Carrey.
yes...he would need a year's worth of British accent training, but other than that, yes, absolutely

Absolutely. A mix of carrey and connery
