    I have been dancing in the Flathead Valley for over 22 yrs and now I'm seeing an explosion of new people learning to dance in our community due to the surge of people that have moved here. We love to two step and all swing dancing. I live in Kalispell, Mt. Glacier National Park is my back door. This is an awesome place to live, and a awesome place to dance!

    Yes! Dancing with a leader with on-time, clear leads and a balanced halo is SO much easier. When I dance with a good leader I feel much more confident. When I'm with someone who rushes the leads or is behind I feel like I look like a terrible dancer because I'm off-balance, on the wrong foot or trying to catch up. I appreciate it when a leader will ask if we can walk through the steps slowly so they can get the correct timing. Likewise, if I'm not catching on to something I appreciate when they walk through the move with me step-by-step so I can get the feel at a slower pace before we try again at full speed. Thanks for all your tips! It's very helpful to hear the basic information delivered in different videos - as I learn more, I am able to pick up different information from the same tips.

    • @countrydancex
      @countrydancex  4 года назад

      We love that! Everyone wants to learn the "cool new stuff"... but the best dancers know that the "how" matters more than the "what" (that's how they become the best dancers).
      To be honest, learning to lead is more difficult than learning to follow. There's just more to know in the beginning. How well a follower dances is greatly affected by the lead, as I'm sure you know.
      Thank you for your comment and for supporting the channel! Let us know if we can help in any way.

    I've heard you say all these tidbits before in your dance-type videos, but it's so helpful to hear it again in a guide-type video because turns are hard for beginners! When you break it down into tips, it makes it easy to remember and implement. Thanks again, and I'm really enjoying XDance University!

    From the Indianapolis , Indiana area. My wife and I have been dancing over 35 years now and we love the many couples dances we do. Line dancing is fun as well, but really enjoy dancing together, but couples dancing or partner dancing seems to have almost died here. The two remaining Cowboy bars seem to only want to teach more line dances. We have a couple of places we still go other than the Cowboy Bars. One is a Moose Lodge where country dance has the place every other Friday night. Then we also have a VFW Lodge located on the old Ft Harrison Campus where I DJ for a group of dancers. We do a couple of line dances and then a couple of partner dances and so on. Both groups are older folks, but with some younger mostly ladies. Would love to find a way to get partner dancing going again, but I'm not sure how. the younger crowd seems to like line dancing, but that might be because those who do dance instructions just don't want to talk the time to teach partner dances, Two Step and so on. Over the years many places around here closed up, maybe because we just didn't buy enough adult beverages to keep them going. If you are dancing and on the floor all the time, you don't have time to drink! If you would ever want to make a trip up this way, please let me know. We could figure out something for the Cowboy Bars or the other places I mentioned. You do a really good job and I know your viewers really appreciate your efforts. Stay safe, God Bless! Dave H

    Awesome tips! Thanks. I went though a learning phase of cool moves which I could not quite master but now I'm backing off and trying to perfect my basics, timing and connection. I noticed the ladies appreciates that. Yes, elements are better then patterns because patterns tempt follows to back-lead and anticipate which creates confusion. I'm guilty of double prep. Need to work on that. The halo advice is confusing because follows give me conflicting advice. Some like a deliberate big halo and others (mostly advanced dancers) tell me just hold my hand up and let me spin myself. I will be visiting Houston soon for a very short visit!

    • @countrydancex
      @countrydancex  4 года назад +1

      The basics are where it's at. They're what make the "stuff" work.
      BTW... "just hold my hand up and let me spin myself" is TERRIBLE advice.

    I'm a dope. Do you both keep the "quick quick slow slow" steps with your feet during the turns, or just step to the beat and start over with the steps at the end of the turn. Thanks

    • @countrydancex
      @countrydancex  4 года назад +2

      That's a legitimate question. The answer is that when you're turning, you're still dancing. Rhythm is counted through weight changes. When turning, you're still changing weight.
      Another way to think about it is that if the person who is turning loses the rhythm, they will also get out of sync with their partner.
      So... keep the rhythm while turning :-)

They are so stiff and I am from Oklahoma and we do step different. They all want to do line dancing if you go out on the dance floor and to step around them, they get offended. Call you a Frogger what does this mean, I told the dance instructor when she kicked me and my partner Off out of her class because we are doing the Oklahoma two-step which were side-by-side. She wouldn’t let us back on the dance floor and my partners daughter that I was teaching to do the Oklahoma two-step owns the bar, I explain to her we are doing the Oklahoma two-step and I was like I was an attitude from an instructor
