Arm Anderson was completely wrong I believe Cena should’ve won at summerslam 2014 because Brock was already a huge star he didn’t need to beat the streak everyone says that that was the wrong decision nobody wanted that to happen and Cena should have kicked Brock’s ass at summerslam 2014 as a kid most kids were heartbroken that moment literally destroyed my childhood I was heading to 7th grade that hurt people bring that up and use that to say why Cena is the goat

But one has to understand his success stems from that humble attitude. If he just decided he was the man and everybody needs to fan him as great he wouldn’t be the level he is. The openness and humble attitude is exactly why the company relied on him for so long as the face. It shows why you hear a Bruce Prichard just absolutely glow talking about him and how much he loved working with him.

John Cena, the person, not the WWE character, usually holds back so much due to going through the endless process of being attacked socially and trying so hard to assure everyone that he is not taking himself too important. But in this interview he was feeling comfortable and there were fractions of him feeling important, and I have to give this to the great skills of the interviewer. Whoever is the interviewer, good job! and props for making someone like John Cena to open up like this without feeling the need to hold back!

John Cena was the victim of a shift in social culture / entertainment culture, during his rise in WWE. Coming off the heels of one of the most explosive and popular eras in Wrestling history, John Cena was handed the ball and had to deliver. People like myself saw the shift in culture and didn’t like where it was headed and a lot of us saw Cena as the torch bearer of this new shift. Cena started off as an edgy antihero baby face and as the culture began to shift he became a generic bubblegum babyface. I think a lot of us felt that he could have fought this new shift and turned heel or went his own way but he kept going. This created a lot of hate for him amongst old school fans/ older fans etc. sorry for the long post but it is interesting to analyze cenas career and how he was put in such a tough spot.

When he stopped rapping and became Super Cena we just wanted the Cena we loved back. That never happened because the culture changed. So I moved on to other performers like CM Punk to replace the spot Cena had.

The point he made about Brock and him at Summer Slam was a fascinating perspective. I personally thought Taker should of taken that streak to retirement and never lost, but at least in losing his legacy was in good hands like Brocks and Cena. John is so right. If Brock goes into his next big match and just barely scrapes by. You ruin the streak legacy that Undertaker built for so long. Great point by John, and I love listening to this guy talk about his perspective on the business. It's refreshing, and a little bit different than some of the other legends in this business.

Im surprised at how many people dont think that way and didnt think that way before that SSlam match. I told people back then on a wrestling forum that there is no chance Lesnar is losing that match or looking weak against Cena. WWE can fuck up things a lot, especially back then, but I knew how respected Taker was and how big that streak was. whoever beats Taker has to be booked strong after that.

From his perspective to his suit game to his experience with some of the best in film and in the ring especially his rock story that made me tear up 😢🙏, there is a reason why John Cena may be the greatest not simply because he wanted to be the 16 time World champ and greatest US champion of all Time but because of his class act attitude in wanting to contribute to make the industry better is what makes him arguably The greatest this was golden, you did again Sam #WeGotTime 👑 ⌚ 🔥

grew up a Cena fan in the US champ rapper era - got burnt out in the Cena "Superman" era with his shtick but always appreciated him even if i was over him being "Lol he won again", grew to truly appreciate him again during the US open challenge era again. dude is a legend.
that said one "gripe" with the convo - about cena "never saying "i win"", edge, jericho & i believe cena himself has spoke to cena saying he should go over the nexus and edge/jericho tryna tell him it was a bad idea and (to cena's credit) admitting it was after the fact... so yeah cena played his cards here and there at times lol.
edit: that aside John was incredibly insightful and very pleasant to listen to.
in a weird way with the way wrestling media works it's cool seeing wrestlers; once out the the "Everyday" - or as Vince would say: THE WEEDS, come out and talk about their experience - Taker in recent years been a great example.

I've met him twice at shows and once during his "Ruck Fules" era, a bunch of fans were waiting outside to meet wrestlers and most wrestlers ignored the fans and went to their cars, understandable because it was cold and drizzling. Cena came out and said he was gonna take his stuff to his car and come back, nobody believed him. He put his stuff in his car and came back and took photos with everyone and signed autographs for probably an hour. He understands that the fans pay his check and appreciates the fans.

I wish Hogan could have been like Cena. Even as recently as 2005 he went over Randy Orton when it was time for Randy to shine. Tried to win the belt off Lesnar in 2002. For the boom that he brought to the business he sure as hell caused a lot of harm to it too.

I will always greatly respect Cena and certainly his place in wrestling history. But I will say the combination of the "Cena always wins" booking for years and the milk toast promos make it hard for a couple generations to truly embrace that character. It sounds weird, but coming off the Attitude era, those generations were quite happy that the goody-goody Hulkamania era was left in the past -- but it was brought back in the form of Cena. I loved the few and far between moments when he would cut deep insults and was more aggressive in his promos because that actually felt real. The nice guy Champ (like Hulkamania) stopped feeling authentic. Shit talking Cena felt more like the real John. Im glad he refers to the "authenticity" aspect with The Rock angle. His best stuff was a bloody brawl with Brock or the cutting promos with Rock or Punk.

great conversation but one thing about when talking about giving back to the business, I wish cena would have thought of that when going up against the nexus on summer slam 2010 and beating them when they needed the win the most even his own teamtes like y2j and edge insisted that nexus should go over but only cena decided otherwise, and since then those 7 men off nexus have never been the same again and look at their careers now.
