Most probably the machine gun round was used in that video. I have read somewhere that even within 7.62 51 there are different gun powder used for rifles round and machine gun round. Initially it was reported that army was using machine gun rounds.
No gun will be perfect on the first iteration no matter who makes it. Not just guns any machine design evolve and mature over the time with constant feedbacks and tweaking. If army is expecting starwars grade weapon it will never get it

Geo politics have a role in defence purchases. It is not just about one procurement…..Govts have to look at the big picture. In the process, local manufacturers are getting cold shouldered, sometimes.
While indian arms industry seeks a global footprint for their wpns so the same rule of choice of the wpns should apply with the user ie a soldier who is going to fight the en with it ..his confidence on the wpn n his needs should come first....but I would reiterate that this procurement is part of an order already on the table in 2019 when there were no Indian companies available to fulfill.the requirements..the reasons for the dalay in the follow on order or timing if the order could be financial constraints , wpn diplomacy or even political compulsions of a govt not in majority.
If India can crack a deal to produce Heckler & Koch production here along with AK 203 and Tavor 21, it would be pretty well equipped and independent....
This sig order is not a big concern. Big concern is our military has no indigenous plan for 7.62×51 rifle, atleast its not in public domain. We may use different caliber rifles but those rifles needs to be indian. Whole weapon procurement specifically testing phase in india is very opaque. That's not a case with usa and other western Countries, they have a whole 1 hour documentaries on why they those certain weapon what happened during testing etc etc.
Indian army soldiers are also not provided with good quality basic gears like:- 1. Tactical boots which lasts atleast for a year or two. 2. Training shoes which lasts atleast a year. 3. Gud quality camouflage uniforms with rip stop and quick dry fabric for training and duty. 4. tactical vests for magazines and useful tools which can withstand numerous trainings and operations. 5. ballistic eyewear
I would love to work for SSS Defence. It's really surprising that if the Govt really supports atmanirbhar Bharat, Why private Indian companies in defence are not given chance to show and demonstrate their product.
This looks like a emergency arms procurement by the army and in that regard the army made the right decision by going for the sig 716i because its a proven platform with established production capacity to meet the army needs. Sss would've required more time and capital to scale up production .
Agar 716 proven platform hai or army ko proven platform hi chahiye to army general bhi Russian or american se manga lete hai woh battle proven ho jayega
Sometimes government buying choices are dictated by Geo politics. If Russia says " you gotta buy this rifle from us and support us in our war, so that we will transfer s400 technology. "Then India will have to look at the bigger picture. Therefore we can't look at one procurement in isolation.
So the recent US diplomats visit to farmer protestors and Kashmir separatist parties is the reason india suddenly gave an order for rifles. Thats blackmail not balancing.
It's not only about the calibre, these weapons also need maintenance and spares. From EME point of view, the lesser the variety, the easier are the logistics as range of spares are less and depth is more. Having an assortment of weapons makes maintenance and supply a nightmare. That said, a long term planning process is definitely needed to encourage local manufacture. The weak area is generally the metallurgy.
The spares and accessories inventory management necessitates uniformity of weapon holding at least in one echelon. So don't agree with what the SSS guy is saying
i can see the pain just by looking his face... its sad we must encourage pvt sector in small arms. why only big guns .. SSS is doing good work IA must do test on it and give order.
The Ak 203 is a very basic assault rifle , almost the same as the old ak 47 except that it has some basic upgrades in ergonomics and lesser weight due to the use of polymers. lAlso the same stamped steel upper receiver, I am not saying that the Ak series is bad but if a manufacturing industry has the capacity to produce something similar our government should at least induct maybe a few thousand and try it out. I see great potential in SSS defence and hopefully our Def est gives them an opportunity soon. All the very best to SSS defence, we civilians are also watching our defence procurements closely so its not like in the 80's or 90' there is a lot more awareness in the general public.
Bottom line --Our Armed Forces need best weapons & Men as we have two nuclear armed adversaries. N̈O COMPROMISE ON THIS. Majority of the Arms & Ammunition being Made In India have their origin abroad and are produced locally thru some ToT etc. In true sense 100% conceptualized, designed, developed and manufactured weapons are very rare. Therefore competition is usually between foreign manufactured and India made Foreign weapons. So ultimately we get foreign designed & developed weapon irrespective it is made in India or abroad. Therefore choice of weapon be best left to Armed Forces. Why cannot indian companies look for tie up with sig sauer company so they make few of these in india or at least service these while in operation. AK203 is also being done on ToT basis from Russia.
Sorry to see so many people and possibly ThePrint jumping to conclusion after listening to one side of the story. Many companies can claim credibility and ability to delivery. But it all come done to the details on schedule, quality, etc. Vivek seems to be venting frustration!

The only time we ever did that was when we trained LTTE in Sri Lanka and fought it ourselves only to get beaten up ourselves
country's hard earned dollars being wasted on foreign purchases by govt but chuchus like you are only concerned in pulling leg of local entrepreneurs. when govt buys from america that money starts circulating in american economy, when they buy from india the money circulates in indian economy ultimately. focus should be only on what is necessary from outside - e.g. jet engines, high tech sensors, etc. we can manufacture decent guns already, why the hell are we not building up the local ecosystem.

Let it evolve!! Dreaming: INSAS free from hybridization of Galil, K2, FN FAL and AK.... Private industries to manufacture the simplified INSAS under license from Govt....why not
It's not a fresh or additional order. The balance of the previous 1.4Lakh total order. But yes very disappointing to know that IA is not giving desi companies like SSS defence or PSU's enough chance to prove their worth.
It’s not just about manning a soldier with a rifle, there are a lot of other factors involved. When you give a man a new rifle, you have to train him to fire it, maintain it, remove stoppages, carry it and then change his other gear according to the rifle, like carry sling, magazine pouch and other accessories. Now, it’s not just the rifle you procure, there are other attachments also, which have already been procured. Other than these factors, it would just not keep up with the uniformity. Considering all of that, it was justified of the army to go ahead with the planned procurement.
You don’t have the capacity to address this on war footing that it’s needed at- army has more deployment needs in both 16 corps area and at LAC. Ideally the AK203 should be scrapped and Indian private sector given a chance
Just 72k for war. Even with 72k, during war time there will be more wear tear of weapon for which you need spare parts. Since we are procuring sigs directly from US, you have to import those too. Give any private players money they can make any quantity and quality you want.
Enemies at the gates won’t wait for your plans. Our defense forces have already faced delays in getting high-grade weapons due to the Atmanirbharta push. Don't get me wrong-I fully support self-reliance, but we need to produce world-class, high-quality equipment first. Companies should lead in R&D and stop relying solely on government support. Make the best products at scale, and the market will follow. For you, it's business; for those on the front lines, it’s their lives. Our chaps deserve the best we can buy in the market (in India or outside).
No Indian, this is what happened. The Chinese soldiers on your boarder wear "titanium body armor". The Indian army needed a rifle and ammunition that could penetrate that body armor right now. So they went with the Sig 716 with the 7.62 x 51 ammunition. India will still develop it's own assault rifles but for now this was a temporary solution to a pressing problem you have on your border.
@@dasarpurug army has no push for other countries to buy our stuff. Army itself is a buyer in the market. It’s the companies and our government trying hard to push, which they should. The things that are up to mark like infrared goggles and missiles are bought both by our defense forces and others as well. It’s simple as that. Insas is an absolute Garbage which we need to replace as soon as possible. Also the DMR for US army currently is M110A1(H&K) It uses 7.62, while the current infantry rifle Colt M4 uses 5.56. @@raghvendrapratapsingh2585Ak platform rifles use 7.62x39 which is useless beyond 300m , so good luck fighting the Chinese in the mountains with that

SIG 716 uses 7.62x51 and that's the ideal gun to fight in the mountains

Hi snehesh, I can feel the pain and anguish of this gentleman. When Indian army isn’t using their weapons how can he attract foreign users? It’s a catch 22 situation. Only lip service by current government should change and buy more of home made guns
Kudos to SSS Defence. Resonate with him on the issue. His hard work and dedication will pay. Govt and the defense apparatus should look inwards and promote.
When you spend ~70% of the budget on salary and pension.

Indian Army and the Indian Airforce are far behind compared to the Navy. Navy has been supporting local industries since 3 decades. Army and Airforce still don't have their internal R&D or design centers unlike the Navy. Army is still stuck in British times and care more about maintaining their Polo grounds and Golf courses than invest in technology centers or private sector.
Agreed. The navy regularly coordinates with Mazagaon Docks and Garden Reach Ltd when it comes to manufacturing vessels unlike airforce or army.

Keep working hard SSS defence. If you create product which are in line with international standard, things will turn around.
This incident shows the power of the import lobby, in spite of having many indigenous options they always opt for import from foreign companies.
The Amry itself is so confused with which calibre to be made as a standard for procurement. Sig 716 is actually a DMR don't know why they're going with it !!!
Their understanding might be that most gunfights and skirmishes occur in further distance and not close. Specially in difficult terrains enemies ambushes from further and escapes. Also, typically in a squad there will be different weapons used according to their role imo
Why does India buy American and Russian weapons with different calibers? It’s ridiculous. Seems like politics is involved instead of military needs.
SSS defence should start marketing and selling their rifles to us civilian Market and also use that feedback coz it would be more constructive than Indian army gsqr testing. Maybe they can make a name for themselves too if youtubers who have fun content review their product
This is not fresh order, but part of previous order which was on hold for some time
Thank you Print for bringing to us this interview.🙏
The govt should also give a demand of another 75000 Assult rifle to SSS defence.
But the point of contention is that SSS defence 7.62*51mm rifle prototype is not available..so how the forces would check it for evaluation..

Armed forces deserve the best! No indian company can manufacture such high quality weapons. INSAS platform is a good example to learn from. Sig sauer is proven and high quality. We shouldn't buy things on just reputation. In that case F16's have great reputation and proven field capabilities then Britain and France should have bought it instead of developing Euro Typhoon or Rafale jets.

Geo politics have a role in defence purchases. It is not just about one procurement…..Govts have to look at
the big picture.
In the process, local manufacturers are getting cold shouldered, sometimes.
Pain is looking at his word
Indigenous is the only way forward
At this point the only thing I think sss can improve is heir name and branding I think army doesn't consider it cool enough like SIG, Ak

Defence mafia now at work in local form
Indian army soldiers are also not provided with good quality basic gears like:-
I have seen the standard issue boots for the indian army, they are low class trash.
I would love to work for SSS Defence. It's really surprising that if the Govt really supports atmanirbhar Bharat, Why private Indian companies in defence are not given chance to show and demonstrate their product.
Sir,
Babus, dalals and corrupt officers will never let it happen 😪
This looks like a emergency arms procurement by the army and in that regard the army made the right decision by going for the sig 716i because its a proven platform with established production capacity to meet the army needs. Sss would've required more time and capital to scale up production .
Agar 716 proven platform hai or army ko proven platform hi chahiye to army general bhi Russian or american se manga lete hai woh battle proven ho jayega
Sss should sell to other countries first and compell indian army & police to buy sss products
Sometimes government buying choices are dictated by Geo politics. If Russia says " you gotta buy this rifle from us and support us in our war, so that we will transfer s400 technology. "Then India will have to look at the bigger picture. Therefore we can't look at one procurement in isolation.
True
Correct, it also has to do with the Kashmir issue.
So the recent US diplomats visit to farmer protestors and Kashmir separatist parties is the reason india suddenly gave an order for rifles. Thats blackmail not balancing.
The Russians never offered S400 tech transfer. And never will.
I am marking this to Rajnath Singh.
Kickbacks😢
Its painful that SSS CQB was not even considered
It's not only about the calibre, these weapons also need maintenance and spares. From EME point of view, the lesser the variety, the easier are the logistics as range of spares are less and depth is more. Having an assortment of weapons makes maintenance and supply a nightmare. That said, a long term planning process is definitely needed to encourage local manufacture. The weak area is generally the metallurgy.
The spares and accessories inventory management necessitates uniformity of weapon holding at least in one echelon. So don't agree with what the SSS guy is saying
Indian navy has a successful design team ..why indian army cant?
i can see the pain just by looking his face... its sad we must encourage pvt sector in small arms. why only big guns ..
All the very best to SSS defence, we civilians are also watching our defence procurements closely so its not like in the 80's or 90' there is a lot more awareness in the general public.
this is just geopolitics
we totally agree with CEO of SSS Defence ...Indian Gov should stop procuring the rifles from foreign countries..
I like this man❤

We have still long way to go , weapon manufacturing require centuries of research and highly specialised skill set

I want best & well tested weapons for our armed forces it's not about indian or non indian.
If he is claiming his weapons are best, test them prove them & convince army that's it.
Well here is the problem they weren't even given an opportunity to prove, so it's a joke at this point
Feeling angered that we are being so stupid with not supporting our own MIC.
They all boast here, but when it comes to delivery, it all goes to seed. We’ve seen enough of that.
Private defence companies have a good delivery record so far. Never heard of negative news for them.
Personally I'd love to see Improvised and simplified INSAS as having low weight (opportunity for optimization) and low recoil considering the built of our soldiers. It's battle proven. Let it evolve!!
Dreaming: INSAS free from hybridization of Galil, K2, FN FAL and AK....
Private industries to manufacture the simplified INSAS under license from Govt....why not
Why the senior did not come when order for 700000 Assault rifles came from Russia? Groupings are everywhere.
Ak203 is junk like INSAS.

The things that are up to mark like infrared goggles and missiles are bought both by our defense forces and others as well. It’s simple as that.
