I have a 2018 Raptor and about 3 months ago, I actually installed the Morimotos on my truck. I was quite disappointed in the light output compared to the stock LEDs. But especially that they are so focused and the cutoff line so sharp, there was not enough light "spill over" to accurately see on the sides of the truck and on road, street signs. I immediately took them off the next day as i felt stock was better. I ended up getting the AlphaRex Nova Midnight Series this past week and finally got them installed two days ago. I am thoroughly impressed with the AlphaRex output and i actually performed the Amber DRL mod which I like a lot better than the standard white (being a Raptor). Construction wise, they were about the same. I appreciate you guys making this video but the one that did it for me was the comparison you had with the Halogen vs LED vs AlphaRex. I could tell by the video that there was a substantial difference and by experiencing the Morimotos myself, the decision to go with AlphaRex was much easier.
Soooo i feel like im going crazy!!!!!! I swear i have already seen this video a little while back! But it says it posted 2 hrs ago..????
Andrew Chau this comparison is one folks wanted for a long time. That’s for your write up. I always like to see what other experienced
Jeremy Wendel yeah, sorry for the confusion man. We did release this video a week ago but it was only up for a few hours. Indirectly we were contacted by Morimoto and they wanted in on the action. So we had to reshoot to end of the video and get a new offer code so those that liked the Morimotos better could also get 10% off
GREAT VIDEO... I just bought the XB Morimotos before watching this... I still like morimoto better. Thanks!
Stick with it. I got alpharex and it's been a nightmare. Headlights already replaced 2 times and now a 3 issue with passanger side.
I am so stoked that we were able to do this comparison video FINALLY! lol
I just ordered the AlphaRex for my '17 F-150 yesterday, and it must have been fate. I was going to order the Morimoto's at first, but I found the AlphaRex lights on sale for a significantly lower price. I do like the Morimoto light pod set up better, but now that I see the comparison of output, I'm glad I went with the Alpharex's.
Thanks man. You also Saved yourself the hassle of tuning the Morimotos. AX have 2 adjustments per headlight and they are easily accessible from the top and bottom. Morimotos have 4, one per pod and only accessible from the back. Paint to tune and most don’t
I have had my XB Morimoto’s for just almost a year. Usable light on the road is great. Never really had to use my high beams. Only use high beams when driving thru our ranch. Cutoff line doesn’t hurt anyone’s eyes when getting behind a car at stoplight. The drone video their using doesn’t do justification when your actually behind the wheel driving. Buying the gen 2 now for the start up sequence on the XB Morimotos.
That’s the exact comparison that I wanted to see great job guys now you can really see the difference between the headlights because I’ve been looking at headlights for my 2017 Ford lariat that I just purchased they all look great but it’s The outfit that I wanted to see. And that test out on the beach was perfect I think that’s more important than the test on the wall
Thanks man. That is greatly appreciated.
The lakebed video is really for the off-roaders to see how effective the light is and how much output your get. The wall test is mainly to see the pattern and that really matters more for on road driving. We wanted to show both so people can make up their own mind. Each set had their strengths and one is better offroad while the other is better onroad.
Saw this video and ordered the Alpharex Nova series lights for my 2011 F150 immediately. I've seen a few other videos comparing these two brands, and I gotta say, the Morimoto's are a more attractive looking light, but it's the light output that's obviously most important, especially when you're dropping over a grand for headlights. I've done extensive research and the Alpharex is the champ. Recon makes projector HID lights brighter than Morimoto's flagship LED headlights, let that sink in.
Glad we could help man. We tried to be honest in the video and you can see they both have their advantages. But for us off-roaders, the light output of the AX lights is the clear choice for the trails
I have a 2007 Tundra. Prior to purchasing I did not compare the two. I purchased the Morimoto XB based on quality and reputation. My goal is to modernize my Tundra and this definitely accomplished that. I love everything about my Morimotos. Interestingly I purchased the Alpharex tail lights because Morimoto did not have one for me. I naturally thought Morimoto would win... so impressed with the light output on the Alpharex. Worth noting... the Morimotos sit perfectly on the Tundra and the light spray is perfect and no adjustments are needed.
Thanks for the info. Great to see others trying out these lights. You really can’t go wrong with either company.
It is interesting to see an actual fair comparison of these.
Headlight Revolution did a comparison of these model years and put the lux rating of morimoto at 1900 Lux and the Alpharex at 485 Lux.
Which is clearly not the case, obviously their light measuring was off or intentionally skewed due to sponsorship deals.
I have experience with morimotos products and I am not impressed with their Quality Assurance or engineering design principles.
I have the X3B third brake lights and it is not well designed.
They omit the center two bolts for plastic pins and it is damned near impossible to get a good seal with he truck because of the lack of the two center bolts.
As a result I had to make my own gasket that would seal with the pressure of the two remaining bolts, but not leave it sitting way far away from the truck due to gasket pressure.
The second morimoto product I have is their HXB 4banger fog lights.
While the lights themselves are decent, you are definitely paying way too much for what you are getting.
On top of that, the wiring harness I got with the lights had one of the sides wired in backwards so one light would not work.
I had to push out the pins from the socket of the cable and switch them around to make it work on the dead side.
This speaks volumes of their Quality Assurance which is WHY they have the 5 year warrantee to begin with, I believe.
I have not tried Alpharex yet, but I just ordered their LUXX tail lights so we will see how the quality compares.
The XB plank has 2 levels, it is super bright as a drl, but drops lower when the headlights or high beams come on. I liked the comparison, but it started out right away pretty slanted to the alpha tho I could tell you guys were trying to be fair and it got better at the end when you went over the pros and cons. The guy with the Mori had problems for sure, but plenty of f150 forums full of users with zero issues. 2yr vs 5yr on the warranty is a BIG deal when spending over 1k on lights that you can't replace the bulbs on!! Helpful but still undecided. Headlight revolution has a great break down on the Mori
Super alpha Rex bias!
🤣🤣 we didn’t hide that Alpha Rex was our sponsor. We wore their shirts. But what you missed is that this video was also approved and sponsored by Morimotos 🤷♂️. We let the footage speak for itself and both lights have their pros and cons and both companies approved and sponsored this video.
I installed morimotos into my truck. 0 issue thus far and running for a year and half. Only thing you’ll run into is that the DRL will turn on randomly when the truck is off. Has to do with the fuse tap location; they assume it must have something to do with the FordConnect app/software. It does turn off but odd it would do that. Plus I have had it stay on for 30min at a time with truck off and locked
These are some awesome light kits, but I can make three truck payments for what they cost. Gonna be rock'n stock halogens for a while I stack some paper first.
I do like the AlphaRex better than the Morimoto though.
Thanks for that honest real world offroading review it's a huge difference between street and off-road driving and you got the off-road driving down! I have spent too much on light to justify another grand on headlights but nice to know there are options. I would choose alpha Rex personally but I don't like that neither of them have an amber drl and that you have to fuse tap for the brigher drl and that for 1k headlights they can't include a led amber bulb but other than that they both seem like great options for those that don't already have fogs, light bars and hood mounted lights!
SERGIO ACEVEDO so the Morimotos you can get with Amber DRL planks. Alpharex is working on a Amber options as well. On the bulb I would have to agree. But it’s the nature of the business. Since they don’t make that bulb it has to be sourced externally, and it kills the costs of the overall lights.
Well one thing l know for sure that Morimoto have XB for 2015 - 2020 Yukon Denali and Alpharex don't if they did I won't mind seeing them til then I'm rolling with Morimoto when they hit the streets. Love the comparison video I hope Alpharex make XB for GMC Yukon.
I like them both. I have the Xbs. The useable light for highways is great. Wide pattern of great. I do love the alphas and that start up sequence. But I’m on the highway more than off-road.
Each has their place and we wanted the footage to speak for itself. The daily driver will want the Morimotos, while the off-roader will want the Alphas.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad i completely agree with that. I love the alphas but I’m not off road enough to go that route.
One thing I’d have really liked to have seen is how they looked from inside the trucks.
I dont have a Raptor or F-150. But, came here searching AlphaRex....hands down best lighting comparison video out there! Kudos and thank you!
Thanks man 🙏🙏
Morimoto has less foreground, providing more usable light. Both still impressive.
Isaac Alonzo really depends on the application. My audience is more on the offroad side and the Morinotos don’t provide enough light to allow is to clearly see the terrain
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad fair enough mate, this just popped in my recommended for a massive amount of rubicon mods, as a commercial drone pilot, loved the aerial shots since that's something provides a true perspective of light pattern.
Thanks man. Really just starting out with drones and looking forward to using mine more.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad there's only so much you can show with wall shots. I subbed for sure.
I already had a suspicion on which would be better even before getting to the comparison part because I saw another video comparing AlphaRex and Morimoto, it was for a Ram. Anyways, your comparison proved my suspicions correct: based on what your camera picked up, the Morimotos are actually better. I know a lot of viewers are saying they'd go with the Alpharex but the way the Alphas focuses the light is the opposite of what you want. They're all foreground and you do NOT want bright foreground. It will hinder how far you can see in the distance at night, and it strains your eyes with so much light bouncing off the asphalt directly in front of your car. You can actually try this, when you're driving, use your hands to block the foreground from your line of sight, you'll notice that it is much more comfortable to look down the distance, although be careful since you are still driving after all. The Morimotos also have a more even, slightly wider spread and distance from the drone shots you provided, the AlphaRex was a giant bulbous foreground lighting that was, quite franky, jarring.
When you compared the two on a wall, it was clear that the Morimotos had the ideal pattern. It has a more focused, brighter hot spots (better for distance) and a decent, bright band of light right under the cutoff which, again, limits foreground while providing just enough light on either side to light up the sides of the road. The AlphaRex, however, doesn't seem to have any discernable hot spot which is probably why the foreground is so bright.
The high beam comparison actually shows that the Morimotos are better, not the Alphas. This, again, is because of foreground. My car came with factory H4 halogen reflectors and H4 bulbs have 2 filaments: a low beam filament with a shield to create a cutoff and an uncovered high beam filament for high beams. When you turn on the highs on an H4 setup, the low beam filament turns off and the high beam filament fires up and you'll notice how little light is focused on the ground. When you have high beams on, you want distance and height, and minimize foreground as much as possible. The drone shot of the high beams shows the Morimoto shining a bit further with not much more foreground than the lows. The Alphas basically doubled the foreground. The wall shot of the high beams again showed that the Morimoto has two distinct and intense hot spots above the cut off which is what you'll want. The Alphas, as said in the video, needs a bit of fine tuning but the hot spots seem to be all over the place, if there are any at all.
I'm not hating on the Alphas but based on the few video comparisons I've seen between the two brands, the Morimoto is the superior product whereas the AlphaRex is notable in only two areas: a lower price tag, and the start up DRL sequence. Again, I'm not trying to sound negative but before anyone sees the comparisons and sees that the AlphaRex lights up the foreground much brighter and therefore think it's better, they need to understand that foreground is actually the enemy. You obviously do need some light shining on the road directly in front of you, but not to the extent that the AlphaRex provides, not even close to that.
You may be right but I think you missed a few points in the video. 1st. we did acknowledge that the Marimotos may be better for street driving and it support your comment. BUT, this channel and this video is all about off-Roading and how the lights will help us off-road. What works on the street does not work off-road. And for us, the AlphaRex are far better for an off-road truck on both scenarios. We need to see all that extra detail at the front of the truck, fill light is not as important because we have other lights for that. Our focus is on the terrain so that we can recognize and avoid obstacles
That all being said, In my experience, I prefer the Alpha Rex. I can see everything better in both scenarios. For me it works best for both an on-road and off-road application.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad off roaders should have a bar and ditch lights (at least).
Guess I'm not getting Morimoto's now... definitely Alpha Rex!
I love these lights. Makes me wish someone made a similar design for the rear lights.
AlphaRex is working on tail lights. So hopefully in a few months we see something cool coming out from them.
I dont know if I'm just bias or what but I own the Morimotos and was debating the alpha Rex's because they were around the same price range. But what turned me away from alpha Rex's was that they had a lower end model called the alpha rex pros, and after reading several reviews about how horrible they were i assumed that their higher end model would be just as bad. Even though the alpha rexs are brighter with their low beams compared to the morimotos i chose morimotos because to me it looked like the the day time running lights and sequential looked better. They didn't look like they had gaps in between the leds and looked more like a tube led. I am overall satisfied with my purchase but I hope I won't have any issues in the future like this guy did.
The old style Alpha Rex lights had that frosted plank DRL. New ones have the individual LED look and they looked a lot like the Morimotos but brighter. They both have similar build qualities, just different approaches
Great vid as always. I would of liked to have seen this comparison done with a stock Raptor also.
David Jordan we did a comparison with stock a while back. So we are trying not to repeat ourselves. Check it out here

I have the Alpharex. Im installing them this week. I went with Morimoto tail lights and a Recon 3rd brake light. Cool vid thanks for the info🙏🏼
Thanks man 🙏🙏
I would like to see the stock led compared with the 2 headlights. I got a 2019 Lariat , it has led stock. A side by side will be interesting.
Already compared to stock in this video:

The latest Morimoto lights have 4 low beams LED each
That’s pretty cool. Just read up on it and they use dual bulbs on all 4 pods it looks like. Would be interested to see the light output from the new setup.
Once again great video! Surprised by the side by side comparison. Hey for a future vid how about comparison of the KC lights. Compare the carbon pods to the ones you have. Looking to add those lights
b pospolyta good idea. Will need to find a few folks with different lights to rest out
Can you do a short video with a stock raptor with the alpha and mori? I bet it could help guys like myself who are on the fence about buying new lights at all. Im sure they are brighter than OEM, but how much brighter. How much better are the beam patterns etc etc etc. Great video BTW!
jeevil here you go man stock versus AlphaRex. We did this comparison last year
AlphaRex LED Headlights vs Stock LED's & Halogen ruclips.net/video/zKszEhol4Ok/видео.html
Thanks for the info and comparison! I still don't know which brand to go with. I like the patten better on the motos but the brightness of the AX, it just looked like a sloppy bright 🤷♂️
For the street, the Morimotos pattern works better. But offroad, the AX lights light the way better
I'm debating about adding the hybrid xb morimotos. I don't do any off roading so much but I don't like the stock halogen. Seems like nobody has a comparison video of stock halogen vs the morimoto hybrid ones.
Headlight Revolution has a comparison of the stock halogen vs the Morimoto XB. Great video too. 2015-2017 F150.
AlphaRex Nova Series for me ! Had 3 different headlights in my truck. They all sucked . I now have vland blackout . They look awesome great fit and finish but poor light output and had two wire harness go bad in six months. Paid 900 so wish I just spent the money and got AlphaRex right off the bat
Alphas are solid man. They are holding up to offroad abuse.
Great comparison and good video, just wish you would of had a stock Raptor also so we could see if the difference is worth the $1,500 installed price for the AlphaRex.
Rick M trying not to repeat ourselves man. Here is the AX vs stock comparison. AX lights are worth the $1250

Now we just need the Morimoto gen 2 since they are supposed to be double the brightness.
Been looking for one willing to meet us on dirt.
Need to do an update on this video with Morimoto Gen2 headlights
Finding someone willing to do the comparison is tough. We are an off-road channel so we compare on dirt. Apparently the guys that buy these don’t want to touch dirt 🤷♂️
Whats disappointing is that Morimoto makes the brightest led projectors on the market. The MLED 2.0 is pretty much on par with a 50w hid projector. If Morimoto had two or 3 MLED 2.0s in a headlight it would be daylight.
Thats mainly what we were afraid of. We know they set the standard with lights. The AlphaRex lights are taking a different approach and seeing some amazing performance.
Keep It Dirty Off-Road I think Alpharex is focusing on optic efficiency. Diode Dynamic has had a huge success because they use super efficient optics that fully utilize the leds. I think Alpharex and their cube projectors are doing something similar. I have a feeling for these headlights to be Road legal the LEDs they are using are not running at full capacity, I would like to see these headlights have like an offroad mode were you flash the highbeams a few times and the leds go as bright as they can.
Morimoto do have a good warranty but I’ve been hearing a lot of issues with them. The loose projectors and even the sun reflecting off their projectors and burning the paint on the headlights.
I’ve seen the Nova series Alpharex is doing for my 2012 F250 and I’m disappointed they are keeping the halogen bulb blinker in the middle of the headlight instead of adding two more projectors in its place. The C-Bar is more than bright enough to act as the main blinker.
Where are the headlight adjustment screws for the Alpharex lights? If I remember right the Morimotos were on the back so you had to adjust them before bolting everything back on.
Michael Ayon at the very top and bottom. Low beams at the top, high beams at the bottom.
Top is easily adjustable and you can see how on our Raptor install video, link below. I have not tried it, but I think the high beams can be adjusted on a Raptor from underneath without removing the lights.
Morimotos on the other hand have 4 adjustments. Not sure about how easy they are to access.
AlphaRex Raptor Install - Nova series MidNights ruclips.net/video/XHTCt_rEu9g/видео.html
Actually not true for Morimotto, I thought the same thing. On my ‘20 F150, it is 4 screws and 3 clips to drop the wheelwell carpet liner. Then boom, there are the 4 adjustment screws on the back of the Morimotto. I am so happy I gave that a shot before pulled the truck apart again lol
Why didn’t you compare them on the same model vehicle? Apples vs. Oranges!
We tried. For some reason the Morimotos guys did not want to meet on dirt.
Also we cared about the Raptor comparison. That’s what my channel is all about. The light setup in the Morimotos uses the same 4 pod layout on the Raptor truck. So as far as a Raptor comparison is concerned this is the same for same.
If we did a 18 F150 or higher they run 4 pons on the AX side and to compensate they use more powerful pods to have the same light output.
Love to similar comparisons among other similar trucks; eg Tacoma's, GM 1500s etc etc. Great information!
Thanks man.
I like the morimoto better, but alpha rex looks good as well.
Can you do the comparison on the 2016-2021 toyota tacoma alpharex vs gen 2 Morimoto headlights? thanks!
We can try. Hard parts is finding trucks with both willing to come out and test
The Morimoto clearly has less output but the cutoffs and quality of light look so much better. That blue hue effect after the white doesn’t look good to me edges seem to bleed or flood out instead of being cutoff but it’s depends on style and function.
The blue effect is because of the color temperature of the light . As for the efficiency, the Morimotos win on the street, but offroad and sheer light output of the AlphaRex is much better
Great video guys, appreciate the time you took to do a good real world test. Morimotos definitely didn't look bad but I think AR takes the cake here, wow.
Thanks man. That’s was our though too. I think Morimotos won the road test, but everywhere else AX beat them out
This video is an ad for alpharex by alpharex. What were you expecting?
You're doing a comparison video with the morimoto head lights pointed to the sky. Lol the dude even said they aren't adjusted right. This is a void comparison. Also, morimoto has a 5 yr warranty, while the alpha only has 2. big no no.
Nick H would you have preferred we did not mention they were slightly high?
I try and be honest in my videos. While the Morimotos were slightly high, based on the wall comparison it was very minimal and did not impact our test much. In a few of the shots the lights pointed high gave them an edge.
The goal of the video is to let the footage speak for itself and let those watching to make up their own mind. One of my High beams was way off and not doing anything and the one working was at the same level as the Morimotos and AlphaRex was still brighter than the Morimotos on the lake bed high beam test.
If your leaning towards the Morimotos and you don’t offroad you will see they do better for road applications.
But for me it’s about the most light I can get for off-road driving and that’s why I chose AlphaRex.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad I do like the AlphaRex however the 2 year warranty makes me hesitant to buy them, while the morimoto offers a 5 year. I do appreciate you being honest just wish we could have seen both the rex and mori adjusted evenly for a 100% comparison. While in the desert, the shot is quite obvious that the mori's are no where near as far down adjusted like the rex's are. I too agree for me it's about the most light output and concentration when i choose headlights. I had HID's in my 08 mustang and since then i will never buy anything halogen or dull again. LED's are next best and you don't have to deal with replacing ballasts every year, but if those DRL's go bad in 3 years you're shit out of luck. $1300.00 out of luck to be exact.
Nick H all great points. But in my experience, the longer warranty is usually for a reason. So far the AX lights I’ve had held up to some abuse with my dumb ass behind the wheels on trails that have broken my steering. Have not heard the same from the Morimotos. But the Morimotos have been out longer. AlphaRex has only been in business for 2 years. Only time will tell but so far I’m impressed.
Have you read the nightmare stories of Morimotos failing on Dodge Ram's? One guy on the Ram Forum is on his 4th set in a little over a year. LOTS of issues. Melting housings, TRS telling people it's not covered. Adjustment screws breaking, bad cutoff lines, etc. And every review i have seen of the light output it's not even close. The Alpharex Nova's are MUCH brighter. One did a drone view at night and it was crazy. I am a huge fan of Moromoto and love the way they look, but the quality on some of these has gone way downhill and Alpharex has them beat in light output by FAR,
Nick H
It’s great that Morimoto offers 5 years warranty since they break down every other month.
I have morimoto 18-20 on my 2020 f150. Didn’t even know about alpha. With these lights - as you showed, you need to take time to adjust them. The morimoto’s are extremely easy, i dropped the carpet trim linner and could reach the 4 adjustment screws. My high beams were really high, and low beam were focused too much to center. My only complaint is that I cannot get a wide enough light output so hard to see vehicles and deer toward the sides of the vehicle. Great review and video. Be interesting what more it would look like with both truck lights calibrated as they both were off on low and high
Alphas can be adjusted without removing the liners. Adjustment screw up too for low beams, and an adjustment screw below for high beams. Much, much easier than Morimotos.
We did see that the Morimotos provide a more focused light
I wonder what the gen2 xb’s are like in comparison. Both appear to be great lights.
We do too. But not many Guys want to meet us on dirt to do a comparison. We are an off-road channel so all of our testing is on dirt. Most guys that buy these don’t offroad
Morimoto have allot of recalls idk why I'll spend my money on the Alpharex 2016 f250 Platinum
Are the recall for the gen 2?
@@Thalor not sure but it has to do something with the led strip hope they fixed the problem
Would love to see the f250 morimoto's vs alpharex too
Oscar they use the same pods and designs. You will find very similar results.
Sounds fairly biased.
We obviously gave our opinions, but the footage really speakers for itself. Both headlights have their benefits. Morimotos definitely looked better on the street. AX were much brighter and better offroad. And at the end of the day, this video has made enough of an impression that Morimotos now has a new set of much brighter headlights coming out. Can’t wait to see how the new lights stack up side by side.
The video speaks for itself
The alphas kick ass but which ones are the most reliable especially when your from Australia 😃
I’m sure if you check out a few forums you will find some info. So far the AX lights have been great for me.
Ive had mine for over a year now and have had no issues. I take my truck offroad and bounce around through the dirt, and have also splashed through some mud and standing water. These lights have treated me well even though i havent treated them so nice! Lol
Just made an alpharex purchase using your discount code.
j escamilla congrats man. You going to love them
Unfortunately it does not work for me.
Rick Catindig it was only good for about two days.
Rick Catindig not sure what happened, Alpharex code still works and the retrofitsource code is down and we are working on it .
j escamilla yeah, Alpharex code is still active and good till 15 Jun. but something happened to the retrofit source code. Working on getting it fixed
Excellent comparison video. Do the alpharex really have that much foreground light? Seems like a problem for down-road visibility no?
Not really. The extra lights really helps see at night and offroad it’s a huge benefit because there is nothing else lighting your way and you need it to see the sides of the road
all this video needed was a stock raptor to compare against.
Look thru the channel. We’ve had already released that video that and did not want to be repetitive.
This video is almost a year old now. The Morimotos have an updated version now which is brighter
🤣🤣🤣 this video is the reason that new version was rushed to market 🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Sounds like AlphaRex paid you a bit of $$ to make this video, only for the data to become old a few months later :)
@@AdamDaley1 🤣🤣🤣 AX did not pay us for video, but they are a sponsor and we helped them with SEMA the last 2 years. We don’t hide that. Shit we wore AX shirts in the video.
But it may surprise you that Morimotos also sponsored this video. Yep, the owner of the company provided us that discount code for his main store front. Morimoto approved and supported this video and took the feedback and comparison here to make the next generation. 🤷♂️
So next time you feel like your going to call someone out; get the facts man. We’ve always provided unbiased opinions even when sponsored.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Well there ya go then. You're being promoted by one brand, so naturally you'll make claims that brand (which sponsored the video) is better.
@@AdamDaley1 clips speak for themselves man. Each light has their benefit. Morimotos were far better on some comparison, while AX is better on others. Morimotos have better warranty and on road manners. AX has more light and better offroad light output.
Since we offroad the decision is easy, pick the one that is easier to adjust and has more light. Even the new version of Morimotos are a pain to adjust. Watch the whole video next time.
Just wondering... what about oncoming traffic.. won’t that seem like high beams are on all the time ?
No, the lights both have good cutoff lines. Properly tuned, they are just like normal lights. Improperly tuned and every single car is flashing you thinking you hi beams are on.
Rather have the one you don't have to keep pulling the front end apart all the time.
From what I understand, the AlphaRex headlights have a factory-like adjustment system. There's one easy to access screw at the top that adjusts the low and high beams simultaneously. I believe the Morimoto's have separate adjusters for high and low beams, but from what I've heard, the high beam adjusters are a pain in the ass to access, and may require the headlight assembly to be removed for adjustment. That is something I definitely would not be interested in. I'll take the AlphaRex over the Morimoto's. Both of these headlights are going to offer a vast improvement over stock halogens, but there's no way in hell I'm interested in dicking around with 4 individual adjusters. Over-engineering on Morimoto's part. AlphaRex has it right with keeping the adjustments simple.
Are the alpha Rex on that truck available for 2019 because the ones I saw only have 2 bulbs at the top and two bulbs at the bottom. I like the ones that you have with 3 bulbs on top and 2 on the bottom.
2018s and up only have the 4 pods total. New light design on those truck does not have enough room for a 3rd. AX made the 2 low beam pods brighter to make the light output the same.
Awesome Video. Thought Morimoto would win.. Thanks for the Video.
Thanks man. New version of the Morimotos might. Need to find someone willing to go head to head
i like the videdo it gave me some usable information thank
Is the narrator wearing an Alpharex t-shirt? Did anyone notice asking about Nova's warranty & issues was not asked, but it was asked about the Marimoto lights? I didn't finish the video because both details made me think this was going to become an unfair comparison.
You probably should have finished the video then 🤷♂️.
We are not hiding the fact that AlphaRex is sponsoring us. This video was also sponsored by Morimotos, they gave us a discount code to share because of how fair the review was.
When we filmed this video, AX lights had only been out a year. Jury is still out on their reliability as we have not seen many report problems to us. Even still now a year later we have not gotten many reports of issues. Morimotos have been out a while and their issues are well documented and that’s why they have such a long warranty.
In the video we do make some calls, Morimotos do win some comparisons and loose others. For us our focus is off-roading and the AX lights are the clear winners in my opinion. But many see it differently, specially for pavement use.
Next time, finish the video and watch the footage. It really speaks for itself and you can make up your own mind.
Can you do a comparison to the Gen2 Morimotos too please?
potancen would love. Just have to find someone willing to come out and do the comparison. Took us over a year to find this guy.
I got the morimoto gen2 . Very disappointed. The projector inside shakes with any bump or rough road i take. Looks like im flicking high beams constantly. And sometimes my drls stay on and wont go off . Im send back to trs for the alpharex novas. Morimoto said a new batch will be released end of year. Im not waiting. 1600 on headlmaps that were not properly test is just mind blowing.
@@davidvelasquez2254 that’s not good to hear. Maybe it was just a bad pod or something like that. Maybe they got rushed to market to better compete with the new lights out there
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad i assume so. Love theres more light output. The start up sequence is nice ... just disappointed. If you guys were close i would let you guys do a comparison. I need a good camera to record video and upload... but on some forum's and ever other videos people have complained about the flickering. Drives me crazy at night driving around. You can hit the side of the fender so simulate a bump.. pothole... and doesnt need to be hard at all... if you look inside the lamp while hitting corner of fender you see all 4 projects wiggle around. Them dont seem to be secured very well. And its both driver and passenger lamp.
@@davidvelasquez2254 wow man, that totally blows. Not good at all.
BTW, we film about 90% of our footage on an iPhone. You can get amazing video quality from cell phone cameras these days
Was this a reupload? I’m having a déjà vu moment with this one.
ABDdrummer yeah, sorry for the confusion. Original video was only up for a few hours before we took it down. Biggest change is New video now has a 10% code for Morimoto lights.
Do both of these brand lights work on the 2018 Ford F150 Lariat with OEM LED lights?
Yes they do with an adapter. The wiring on the stock LED lights is different, so they both have an adapter harness. On the AX lights they do include an in-line CanBus so it’s error free. Not sure about the Morimotos.
Kinda disappointed you all did this without making sure ALL things were equal, specifically, aiming the lights. There’s no way to say one was better than the other if you all have them pointed to the sky. Looks like morimoto is a better choice if they’re aimed properly.
I know man. But when you see the process to tune the Morimotos, I understand why he did not tune them. It’s not something we could have done in the field like on the Alpha Rex lights. To tune the Morimotos you need to take them out. Each light pod has an adjuster and 2 of them can’t be access just by removing the liner. Whole light had to come out. Complete pain.
Good video! Clearly biased but informative.
We are not trying to hide anything man. We are sponsored by AX. We wanted to be as fair as possible and our focus is off-roading. The Morimotos are the clear winner on the road. But offroad the extra light of the AX lights makes a big difference
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the dude with the morimotos say his lights hadn't been adjusted?
Yep, he did and we left that in. But if you take a look at the side by side on the wall, his were very close. And not having telegram tuned also helped the Morimotos perform better on the road test
This was a great video!! A1
Stephen Perry thanks 🙏
Question is the extra light due to the extra pods in the 17 I've got an 18 F-150 SuperCrew I wonder what the alpha rex versus the Marimoto would be with two and two on the low beam with the light output of the Marimoto would be the same.anyway to compare those ? I like the alpha Rex I think Marimotos have some quality control issues what do you think?
I was thinking the same thing
The AlphaRex 18 lights with 2 pods use more powerfull LED pods to provide the same light output as the 3. So light output should be very similar.
We heard from Gavin here on the video that he did face some issues. Not sure how many others have had issues. But our AX lights have taken some abuse offroad already and are doing well.
I've heard of three other instances with guys on RUclips with the morimoto's having the same daytime running light issues but Morimoto stood behind it I guess you'd get good at changing out headlights with the morimoto's
Mark Sprouse that’s what’s important to me. Companies that stand behind their products is key. I know AlphaRex does and heard the same from Morimoto
He said he hasn't adjusted his morimotos. You'd think they would adjjust them before making comparisons
Skylar Helmbeck it’s his truck man. I can’t tell him what do, it’s all up to him. Would have loved to spend the time tuning it, but we had limited time and the Morimotos have adjustments per light pod and none of them are easily accessible so tuning takes a long, long time and taking apart the wheel wells.
At least with the AlphaRex, the top adjustment is an easy access from the top, High beams is at the bottom but also easy to access by just bending the wheel well liner. Don’t have to remove it
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad It's still a good comparison none the less. Thanks for taking the time.
@@TheSkylar25 thanks 🙏
Too bad you didn’t do a true comparison by doing the same generation headlights. The 2018+ are completely different compared to the 2015-2017 headlights.
🤦♂️🤦♂️ first off this was a Raptor comparison and the Morimotos light stack is the same regardless.
2nd the alpha 4 light setup for the 18s and up has the same light output. They use brighter pods to do the same amount of light.
And lastly, the video was supported by Morimotos and it left such a big impression on them, that they rushed an update to their lights a few months later. 🤷♂️ so we must have done something right
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ “First off” if it was a true “Raptor comparison” as you just said then maybe you should have had two Raptors side by side instead of a Raptor and a F150. Again, the 2018 F150 headlights are completely different then the 2015-17 F150 OR the 2015-2020 Raptor. Take care. 😂
@@cagle82 Try and find a raptor with Morimoto in So cal willing to get it dirty. We did, they don't exist.
And LIKE IS SAID, Alpha Rex compensates for the lights by using 2 stronger LED pods, instead of the Lowe powerful 3 on the 15-17 F150 (17-20 Raptor) On the Morimoto side, the light stack stays the same and does not change between the 2 models. Only thing that chances is the housing design. The arrangement of the lights, the output, and how they are aligned is the same.
it's not till the new lights that just came out a few months ago that Morimoto updated the POD design to output more light. Still looking for someone with the new lights to compare with. Again, None of them want to get dirty.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
All I said was the fact that the headlights/housings are not the same on the two models. Period. The video was well made, I just stated the obvious.
@@cagle82 i know, and we mention it in the video. I’m telling you it don’t matter. If I could get 2 identical 18s together I would. We got 3 17s for a stock comparison. This video took us almost a year to find someone willing. So we focused on the pods and not the application
Did you pay full retail for your AlphaRex or were they discounted for you. Im looking for a real review of both lights. This seems like a advertisement for AlphaRex. If this is a honest review I will get the AlphaRex.
This video was sponsored by both AlphaRex and Morimotos. They both stepped up with discount codes. We have been sponsored by AlphaRex for a while now and we did not hide that. That’s why we had the AX shirts on. We tried to make it as fair as possible and let the footage speak for itself. You can clearly see where each light shines.
Only regret we have is, that the Morimotos were not properly adjusted. But a field tune was not possible with how difficult those are to adjust. Basically have to take the light out and we did not have the tools or time to do it here.
So what are the replacement bulbs for the AlphaRex lights???
flyboynextdoor the kit comes with stock incandescent bulbs for those that order a Raptor.
I don't think the low beams (what people use the most) was a fair comparison -- Alpha rex has 6 total LEDs vs morimoto's 4-- or maybe I missed how you accounted for that difference.
🤦♂️🤦♂️ seriously man?
The number of pods does not matter. AX has 3 lower wattage pods. While Morimoto has 2 higher wattage pods per side.
AX does certain version with just 2 with higher wattage. Point is that if AX uses 2 or 3, they still put out the same lumens. So the number of pods don’t matter.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad ok cool, I appreciate your response and the video. I will look into the wattage differences... I'm currently looking to upgrade my 2018 F150 from OEM headlights to something else and came across this video. I was very close to buying the Morimotos but then I watched a video where the main complaint was the light was not "wide" enough so I continued my search and landed on this video.. the video in question: ruclips.net/video/r82kwXZP4e0/видео.html
I would recommend the AX Just based on the DRL planks and easier adjustments. The AX planks are the full plank for the turn signal. Adjustment is also easy from the top.
Morimotos has an individual adjustment for each pod. Very inefficient and requires taking out the lights and removing the liner just to tune them.
Finally, light out out will be more with the AX lights. For the 18, it’s a 4 pod solution and provides similar light output.
Only benefit to the Morimotos is the warranty. That’s it
I definitely wouldn't take a road trip with the Alpharex headlights with all the foreground light in front of you, that will lead to eye fatigue. Brighter isn't always better.
MrShawnuff compared to the stock lights? On a road trip the stock LED lights are basically useless. All they do is make signs around you too bright and don’t provide enough light on the road. I would rather have more light on the road to help me see what’s ahead and any obstacles
Drove my truck from Southern California to a beach community in Eastern North Carolina in about 47 hours. Just shy of 3,000 miles each way, had absolutely zero issues with eye fatigue. They were amazing on the stretches of highway where it was pitch black!
What’s main difference between nova and luxx?
Luxx is the low end lights. Reuses stock halogen bulbs but gives you the DRL and turn signal planks
I thought the Pro was the low end?
So did I but. But check out their website. pros are now called Luxx
Are morioto were 1300 paid just under 1500 installed . Are lights with the high beams are like having a 50 inch light bar ... sorry we would go with these again... regardless.
Should had we have a 2018 f150 so this would not be comparable at all ... correct?
CZ 1always the light output is the same regardless of the year. The Morimotos have the same light pod config on the Raptors for either year. On the 2018 f150s they are down a POD but AX makes up for it by using more powerful pods so that they light output is the same.
The morimotos look like they need to be adjusted
They do, the owner of the truck said he had not adjusted the lights yet.
Great video

Your going to find that the lights will have very similar performance. They all use the same light pods in different locations. Beam patterns and light output are the same. The only thing that changes is the arrangements. So if you’ve seen say ours and the dodge video, you will see very similar results
Keep It Dirty Off-Road thank you for the reply! This will help with the decision for sure.
Isn’t Alpharex rebranded generic Chinese headlights? Think you used to be able to get them (unbranded) on Ali Express? The light output is bright. But it looks like a bit too much for daily driving.. it looks like it almost impedes your distance by lighting up the foreground too much .. I’d really like to see someone who actually knows headlights, and is not trying to gain subscribers, views, or free merchandise to review these thoroughly.. yes they look bright, but how does that translate to usable daily driving city/Hwy.. unfortunately, RUclips is full of misinformation by self subscribed ‘experts’

Pro series are halogen based. Normally reusing stock bulbs. An improvement over stock halogens, but not by much. The LED NOVA series are so much better.

Oscar Escobedo sorry man. This was a limited time code. And was available for 45 days
Not a fair comparison.
5 led bulbs vs 4
You should exclude the raptor from the comparison.
🤦♂️🤦♂️ the light setup is the same regardless of the truck with the Morimotos. With AlphaRex, when only 4 pods can be used, the LED output is higher to make the same light. So it’s pretty fair and valid enough that Morimotos rushed out version 2 of the lights to make them brighter

Tests are irreverent. Both sets were not aimed properly so the dispersion of light wasn't constant between both lights. Why wouldn't you aim both lights before making the video? Make it a fair video instead of making a pointless click bate video. And having a lux meter is important information for your followers, not misaligned lights shining at the ground and in the sky. And in my opinion the Rex's highbeans have a shit pattern.
lol. 🤷♂️. Morimoto & Alpha Rex were both good with the video. So much so, Morimotos gave us a discount code and then rushed the next version of their lights after this video came out.
AX low beams were aimed correctly. If you know anything about the Morimotos' you know how difficult they are to aim. Basically you need to take the light out to access all 4 adjustment for each light. Adjusting the morimotos was not an option in the field. And the owner was OK with his the light output and had no problems on the road.
As for a Lux meter, I and my audience don't really care about that. that's just a number that means nothing. We are more concerned with practical applications. How does it look in the real world and not a garage. The footage speaks for itself. Morimotos were better in some areas. AX we're better in others. You got it backwards
Now we need to know the warranty problems with alpha Rex. And this is a very one sided comparison since you stated that the 2018+ alpha Rex will only have 2 pods for low beam. Trash review!
Bo Hughes 🤣🤣 wow man. We wanted to see how the AX light stood up. The matching Morimotos light for a Raptor is the same pod design regardless. so the comparison is valid. The AX 2018 2 pod version uses more powerful LED Pods to have the same light output. So I don’t expect much of a difference there.
Now as far as reliability, AX has only been out for about 2 years. Time will tell on their reliability.
Lastly, we were honest about the review. His lights were not tuned correctly either and we called what we were actually comparing. You prefer we just say nothing so you have no clue what’s going on?
