    I wanted to fill in some gaps on the install after searching the interwebs and not finding what I need in hopes someone else can benefit. This is based on a 2019 F-150 Lariat.
    This video is pretty helpful but doesn't talk about the DRL module. If you are like me you may wonder what the purpose of the module is being it is optional. Without the DRL module and when the DRL option is checked in Settings > Advanced Lighting > DRL then the low beam headlights will be on when you should have just the DRL bar. If you are using the DRL module you want to TURN OFF THE DRL SETTING.
    On the AlphaRex website, the directions are misleading. The wiring diagram says to ignore the yellow wire, but above in the description, it says to connect to one headlight. DO NOT CONNECT THE YELLOW WIRE. You can just cut it or wrap it up.
    The fuse tap -- I used fuse #36 which is a 10 amp fuse. I recommend watching ruclips.net/video/NW0QaQaU41Y/видео.html for how to properly use the tap if this is new to you like it was to me.
    Hopefully, this helps someone who is struggling! My LED bar now is on when the lights are turned off or when on auto. Everything else works as normal. If you want your DRL to have the bar and low beam then leave the setting alone for the DRL.
    Only thing left to figure out is how to adjust the high beams.....

      I'm doing this install tomorrow on my 2020 F150, but I previously used forscan to set my drl's to turn signals only. I'm curious to see how that adjustment affects the alpharex headlights. It would be great if that adjustment also illuminates the outer halo, but I'm kinda thinking I'm gonna have to install the drl harness. We'll see. Btw, I believe the high beam adjustment is done with the adjustment screw at the bottom. Looks like it takes an inverted torx bit.

    • @MrKurtBergeron

      Thank you. That was a gap that really needed to be filled. I am baffled as to why there are so many installation videos that don't show the complete installation. I've been very frustrated not getting the light bars with my headlights in auto.
      FYI, AlphaRex website shows the screw to adjust for the hi-beam in a picture below the installation video, in case you still are still lighting up the tops of trees at night, like mine was.

    You do need to install the harness if you want the "Halo's" to come on when you turn of the DRL's on your console settings. I wanted to have the DRL headlights off and just the Halo's on in the daytime. Without the harness, turning off the DRL feature will turn off the headlights and the halo's when headlights are set to Automatic in the daytime. (2019 f150 XLT).

    • @Dickj203
      @Dickj203 2 года назад

      The haloes are the drls.

    • @Sagittarius-88
      @Sagittarius-88 2 года назад +1

      I would recommend anyone installing these headlights on an F150 use the drl harness. I had an issue with the drl's intermittently not working on one of my headlights. This was before I installed the harness. Without the harness, the drl's are relying on current supplied through the body module. For whatever reason, the BCM intermittently would shut down the right side drl, and throw a position light short to ground code. I decided to install the harness, and set my drl's to "off" in the settings menu. The drl's are now run exclusively through the harness. Haven't had any issues whatsoever since the harness was installed. I keep my headlight switch set to auto, and everything works as it should. The extra intensity the harness supplies is no joke. In the daytime, the drl halos are friggin BRIGHT. My guess is the Alpharex drl's draw close to the maximum limit of current the BCM will allow before shutting the circuit down and throwing a fault code. Obviously, Alpharex supplies that drl harness for a reason.

    • @Sagittarius-88
      @Sagittarius-88 2 года назад +1

      @@F_1Fitty_5.0 The grey wire goes to switched ignition, which you will need a fuse tap for. Unfortunately, AlphaRex does not supply one with the headlights. I got one through Amazon from a company called Bussmann. Fits the F150 line perfectly. Alpharex recommends using fuse 36 or fuse 10 for the fuse tap, but based on my own experience, I'd go with fuse 17 or 18, as these are tied to the Run/Start relay. I've had no problems whatsoever with the drl operation since installing the harness in this fashion.

      Absolutely true, though it's not just on the F150 lineup. A lot of cars today call for complete bumper cover removal to get the lens assemblies out. Some vehicles do give access to service the headlight bulbs separately, but I've worked on quite a few cars that required bumper cover and lens removal just to get to the headlight bulbs. Pretty ridiculous, but it's the world we live in. It sucks not only for the customer, but for the repair facility as well. Explaining to someone that it's gonna cost well over a hundred dollars just to replace a headlight bulb isn't always easy.

I've been eying up these midnight editions for a while now. Very sharp looking headlights, and I'm sure the output is far greater than the stock halogens. As far as the additional DRL harness, I'd probably skip it as well. I really don't care how bright the running lights are in the daytime. I wish they would have done a before and after in this video, though. I'd have like to seen the difference in output between the novas and stock.

I do like the look of the nova's, but they have a hefty price tag, and I'm not sure if the headlights are even serviceable. At least with the pro series, you can replace the headlights if they burn out. If the nova's aren't serviceable, you'd be replacing the entire assembly if a headlight goes out. Screw that.

Before you re-installed the trim piece, did you have to remove the retainers from the body and install them back into the flare before seating it back in?

      These lights are absolutely street legal. Taken directly from the Alpharex website..."Our 18-20 F150 NOVA-series projector headlights are compliant with SAE and DOT FMVSS108 regulations. Moreover, all our products are certified to ISO-9000, ISO-9001 and ISO-9002. Most importantly, we inspect every detail of the lights to make sure we are satisfied and so are our customers." That being said, these headlights definitely need to be properly aimed. The nova series headlights have very easy to access adjusters, and the high and low beam are adjusted simultaneously with said adjusters. Just find yourself a level surface and a wall, and the aiming process should be pretty straightforward.

    • @Sagittarius-88
      @Sagittarius-88 3 года назад +2

      You don't need forscan to get the drl to work. I recently installed these headlights on my 2020 F150, and you don't need the drl harness either. That being said, I made some forscan modifications that alter the way these headlights work in drl mode. By default, the daytime running lights are the low beams, which will also illuminate the LED halo in white. That's not a look I care for, so I used forscan to change the drl's to "turn signals only". This modification uses the turn signal bulb instead of the low beam for drl use. It will also illuminate the LED halo in amber instead of white, which I think looks much better. It's my understanding that the drl harness only supplies extra intensity for the LED halo during drl use. I chose not to install the drl harness as I'm happy with the current look. If I get bored and ambitious, I may "loose fit" the harness just to see exactly how much extra drl intensity it actually supplies.

      @@Sagittarius-88 I've been thinking about doing this same thing. So just to make sure, you didn't hook up the DRL harness? You just hooked up forscan and changed drl's to "turn signals only"? What happens when you turn on the signal? Does the indicator ever turn white?

    • @Sagittarius-88
      @Sagittarius-88 2 года назад +1

      @@bryanfigueroa5685 No, I did not install the DRL harness that came with the Alpharex headlights. My daytime running lights are set to 'on' via the vehicle settings, and my headlight switch is set to 'auto'. Using FORScan I set the daytime running lights to 'turn signals only'. This was the outcome...in the daytime, you will get no illumination whatsoever with the vehicle in park, whether the vehicle is running or not. Once you shift into gear, the outer halo will then illuminate in amber, and the front turn signal bulbs will also come on steady. Turn signal operation is normal, with the halo remaining amber, and flashing in a sequential pattern. Once it gets dark enough to trigger the headlights, as they're set to auto, things change. The headlights will come on, and the halo will change to white. During turn signal operation at night, the halo will switch to amber, and then switch back to white once the turn signal switch comes back to rest position. Given the fact I never installed the DRL harness, I honestly don't know what it does exactly. I'm thinking it may illuminate the halo with the vehicle in park, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm really not concerned about my DRL'S not coming on while I'm in park. They're on while I'm driving, and I'm fine with that. I'm also extremely picky about what types of things I install on my truck, and I'm not at all a fan of unnecessary wiring harnesses. Just my opinion, but the DRL harness was completely unnecessary, as I was able to get amber DRL'S via FORScan. Hope this info helps.

They're aware of this, as well as all of my test results on the passenger side high beam circuit. There's absolutely no faults on the vehicle side. I'm really curious to see how this plays out. Alpharex doesn't have the greatest reputation regarding customer service. There's multiple reports of them flat out ignoring customers regarding warranty claims. Time will tell in my situation. @@tommyh2303 I just completed this install on my 2020 F150. I changed my drl settings to "turn signals only" via forscan. This change will not only illuminate the turn signal bulbs instead of the headlights, but it will also illuminate the outer halo in amber for drl use. I didn't bother with the additional drl harness supplied by Alpharex as I didn't really see the need. I have my headlights set to auto, so once it gets dark enough, the halo LED's automatically switch to white once the headlights come on. Just some food for thought if you're planning on making some forscan changes.
