People that don't have a nonverbal child likely can't see how damning this is. She just met this girl and then LEFT her and purposely didnt come back for two days!! The defense made it seem like no big deal about there being no food as Cristina most drank ensure BUT what the F about the 18 year old young lady that you abandoned at your house? You let essentially a stranger into your home and set her up to be hungry and resentful and even afraid WHILE caring for your child. This should be a separate freaking endangerment charge. Leaving a child that cant communicate with a total stranger for a weekend. Shame

I came across this Judge in the Alex Murdaugh trial. He has a humane & "grandfatherly" manner? Many judges often come across as detached, though, they obviously have to be, so as to keep their emotions out of it & stick with the facts & the laws to guide them. But, sometimes a judge, (or even a cop, etc) is able to do both, without compromising their professional position or oath, etc! I like judge Newman. I also like that judge in Texas, (I can't recall his name) but he also speaks with such feeling & wisdom, recalling his life experiences too etc & gives the defendants a "grandfatherly" telling off & getting them to learn life lessons, accept responsibility & move on & improve oneself.

She's an 18 year old, she's only met the poor girl that day and the mother leaves her disabled child with someone who's a stranger to her from Friday through to Sunday without letting the babysitter know or even calling?
She has to track her down by Facebook? Then she says her boyfriend had food poisoning and she couldn't drive his car? How many red flags would a reasonable person see here? That's really beyond inconsiderate and I know people deserve a break from caring for someone with such health needs, but that's just inexcusable. I'd be very hesitant going back to help out again. If there were no groceries in the home, what was this girl supposed to eat while she's stuck there? She can't leave the child home alone, can she? I can't imagine the nerve of some people. She took advantage of this girl's interest in nursing and her youth and that doesn't say anything great about that mother.

What a lousy mum. I’m a nurse and I have 3 kids of my own. I also spent time working in a 2 bed unit for children with complex needs - most were non verbal and had cerebral palsy etc. It’s pretty hard work caring for a child with special needs and this babysitter was a kid who’d never looked after Christina before and was left for 2 nights and days. So very unfair of Rita to do that. The social work department for that area, (I’m from a rural area in Scotland and things may be very different in SC), also hold some blame for this tragedy - they should’ve been keeping a close eye on Rita.

The best place is in the family home for every child, disabled or not. You don't just institutionalize them because they are disabled but in this case it may have been the better choice since the mother was a space cadet. There are enough resources at least in my state for parents to pay for caregivers and to get a break from ongoing caregiving. They are called personal care attendants and they are paid by disability waivers for the child. But they should be trained by a skilled nurse by the agency that gets the county funds to send them out. This sounds so neglectful and put that 18 year old at risk as well. I've done care for disabled adults but was always trained by the agency I worked for.

I had a writing class with a 19 year old young woman with severe CP. She was non verbal, and one or the other of her parents would help her in class. She had a motorized wheelchair and an electronic board that helped her spell out words, and her parents would verbalize.
She was their only child, so that they could devote totally to her.
I have to say, she was a beautiful young woman, with a perfect complexion, platinum hair and big blue eyes. She was ethereal, to tell you the truth.
And WHAT a wicked sense of humor. Her stories were wonderful, and our entire class LOVED her and her parents.
Some special needs children, can be very lucky sometimes that all those needs are met...and then some. So that their full potential is known to themselves and others.

Can't take a matter of simple DESCRIPTION, of a person so that others will have an idea of what the young lady I knew looked like.
      She was a friend.
I was also describing, that the difference in having devoted, loving parents was how many people were able to witness and benefit from my friend's TALENT.
Because Jay is always mentioning how that difference is in a child becoming great, as opposed to dying young and tortured.
Children, in our cruel world, who aren't born perfect, and even if they ARE, suffer with savage parents or other caretakers, and they deserve better.
And how I wish they ALL had what my young friend had!
Clearly, it's the savages who harm vulnerable children who are mindless in their violence.

She used a teen to care for her child for days because she knew a young person who had dreams of going into the career of caring for others and being a nurse was easier to manipulate and would be more likely to stay with Christina despite not having agreed to caring for her for days

I don't know how these defense attorneys rep these scum bags 😒 I really pray the punishment fits the crime but anymore, our "justice system " is a joke!

I think you’ve got it a bit backward. A judicial system that DOESN’T guarantee the right to a defense is a joke.

Christina never had a chance being born into this environment. These adults are all sub standard at best. Even this “babysitter” is a joke. This poor girl. Good gawd.

I think the babysitter was put in a terrible position. She wanted to be a nurse… she probably looked up to her child development teacher & trusted her decisions even though her gut must have been telling her that something wasn’t right. I think she already has lot of trauma around this incident, she looks scared & depleted.

That's what is so heartbreaking now. Several adults let this poor person down in the worst ways. Substance abuse rules any person. Horrifying.😢

How disturbing can it be to a woman who was taught by this person in child development = to bear witness at the trial of same woman for murdering her disabled daughter ? How can people not be scarred by this type of heinous fall from morality ? Christina Pangalangan has betrayed her family, her community, humanity, her profession - - why ? Because she got a boyfriend and wanted more free time. ABSOLUTE ABOMINATION From teacher to the right hand of evil. depravity.

If this is true, she should be charged. She is a mandated reporter. I hope she's not a nurse now. She gives off a very apathetic energy.
