Angel Santos Your range is the notes you can sing WELL and COMFORTABLY. Likely your range is one and a bit octaves, since, evidently you are not a trained singer, because you’re asking what your you would classify your range as.
Wimsie i dont know mine as well, way back in high school i was in group of males bass and tenor, always asked to be put in the melody (or like the blending group) but was told that I cant becauae of my range.. up until I still dont know my voice range is.. i just tell my self that I might have bass as my range.. hahaha!
Me too! I can go very low (and sing some Cher songs, my favs) and really high (I played Penny Pingleton from Hairspray and it was nice, tho I was using falsetto in the highest part of Without Love).
as a teenager i sang alto. then when i was 18, i was told that i was actually soprano. i've been singing it ever since and throughout the years, people said that i am soprano. i can sing the higher notes, but it is uncomfortable. i really think i am really alto who can get to higher notes, if that makes sense.
Same!! I'm an alto (even by my teachers definition) but I always get told to sing soprano parts since I can sing high notes. But it feels scary even though I'm not necessarily strain my voice
I'm a mezzo soprano but I want to work on my vocals in the upper registers. I still sound so mousy even if the tone is clear and the pitch fairly accurate. Wish my voice sounded richer up there.
Just thing to say, if you don't practice singing, you can't know with this exercice which type of voice you are because, you don't know singing. Singing is by a physical point of view, a story of breath, posture and musculature. If you don't know how to breath, how to stand, never you will know the extent of your voice. I practice lyrical and modern singing since many years, and at start, I couldn't go further than the highs of an alto. Today, now that I know how to use my vocal cords by liberation (when one knows how to sing, we feel like a full opening of the body, as if our voice resonated all around us, well beyond our skins) and that I have a good posture (it's extremly important, it's the first thing you learn), I turned out to be a soprano. But brief, only a very good teacher (and I insist on the very good because many are not and that is the base) can tell you what is your tessitura. But the evaluation of your voice can take several weeks or months for these new singer :) !
Yes ! I had the same problem before I began to take singing lessons. When they say you can have a good idea of your tessitura with your "comfortable" range, it's not wrong. BUT when you are a beginner, you don't even know what comfortable really means. I was sure to be a mezzo-soprano when I began to sing, because I didn't knew the proper singing techniques (and I'm still learning). So what I considered as my "comfortable" range were my low notes. But now that I took lessons, even though I don't have a lot experience, the difference is huge. And I can feel that it's way more comfortable for me to sing high (I'm a soprano).
can you tell me what note you could hit before and after training? I feel like I might be a mezzo without training, but I can do falsettos up to c7 so i dont know. my highest belt without straining is like only in the 4th octave though
@@mariondumont7634 That’s interesting because I’ve always thought I was a mezzo since I tend to speak lower (because I think it makes me look more credible) than it naturally comes to me and because I do a better job in my like, mid-low register but at the same time I do tend to gravitate towards singing everything higher than it actually is and don’t breathe properly 🥲
An alto is not a voce classification!!! Is a choral part. Female voice types are: Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano and CONTRALTOS. Contraltos are very very rare, they have very cavernous, robust and booming lower register, an androgynous and powerful sounding middle voice, and an overly bright and usually underdeveloped airy head voice. Most people who claim to be "altos" or "contraltos" are usually just mezzos with wider lower ranges, or simply untrained sopranos who haven't developed their higher register.
Music Fan i was just about to type all this. I am a "dramatic" contralto. Range of f#2 to c5. I can hit the 5th but Im uncomfortable doing it. Although I love how suddenly every single female commenter on youtube is a contralto with a barry white range now. It took me years to hit f#2.
Adding that I am often mistaken for a man on the phone. Look up contralto blues on here. Its a comedy sketch about being a contralto. Its pretty funny.
Albert Schmalbert Exactly!! I know she does this videos with the best intentions, but I honestly feel the do most harm than good, because they lead people to think and consider themselves, usually, they are voice type that they're not....and mostly, you can't classify a voice, merely based on range, because from what I've seen in the comments, most people are have highly underdeveloped techniques, so there's no way of truly knowing your vocal fach if your technique sucks anyways lol...For instance, I always thought I was a baritone, and turns out I actually was a Leggero Tenor, but my technique was so bad that I was straining on E4's....under those circumstances It could have lead me to believe I was a bass, which couldn't be further from the truth lol
Albert Schmalbert lol I've seen it, it's hilarious... well anyways, congratulations!! You have a very rare and special gift!! Hope you can upload a video or a little snippet of you singing, I'm a sucker for real Contraltos lol
Hopefully, people understand that range is not a defining factor for voice type. Like she said, it really depends on where your Break/passagio is and the color and timbre of your voice. Those tend to be the most important things and range is normally the last thing looked at. for one reason there are numerous Mezzo Sopranos which are able to sing in the Soprano range and sopranos who have a dark and warm lower register. Always ask a voice teacher (preferably a classical teacher) to help you figure out your voice type. and remember the voice matures as well. at 21 I was a high tenor now at 25 my voice is filling out and the bottom is so much thicker.
eternalsilverlight This comment is more helpful than the video for me. Sorry, guys.... I can comfortably sing in nearly 3 octaves so knowing only my range is not enough.
Amen! The thickness (lightness) of your voice is what really counts. That’s called tessitura. Apart from that, You can also sing those three ranges changing the collocation of your voice to reach those different notes. For example, I use my chest register for the first octave of the “alto range”, then I switch to mixed voice for most of the “mezzo range” and finally i use my head voice for the highest part of the “soprano range”. So sorry but merely knowing your vocal range without even noticing where you resonate your voice when singing won’t be helpful at all. Pd: even if I love hitting those E3 with my chest voice, I’m a classically trained soprano and my C4 can’t be heard at all when singing in head voice 😭
you can find this information in about one second by googling voice types :-/ you're on the internet you know..? But you can't just tell by trying to sing these notes, you need to take some lessons with a good teacher to find out what range is comfortable when you are singing with correct technique.
orlando098 I’m frustrated because Google says I have to be a contralto because I’m a woman but practically every example of a contralto given songs way higher than me. Give me a dude’s Tenor part any day.
I believe I'm a mezzo, that's where i'm the most comfortable singing. I sing in the alto range, but it feels like I have to think about it for my voice to stay there.
Mezzo soprano - more comfortable in Mezzo range, but in choir situations can sing soprano and or "tenor" parts. Comfort though is probably the Mezzo range :)
There's no such thing as "alto" in voice type. Alto is a choral line in choir (the main melody). If you are talking about the lowest female voice type, that is "contralto".
lunarlena Donnie is actually correct. Alto is just a choir term for the lower half of the woman vocal types (mezzos and contraltos), while contralto is an actual vocal type a the lowest women’s vocal type.
So if my range is the alto range in this video, does that make me a contralto? Or do contraltos typically have a different range than the one presented in this video?
She'd have pretty much the same range as a male Tenor, but with a completely different timbre- (so hence, she could also be viewed as a "female Tenor." I know a lot of Contraltos who actually call themselves "female Tenors", and they sing in the Tenor section of the choir that I'm in.
This is great. I used to have singing lessons but let them drop. Your vocal exercises are fantastic and I'm already feeling the benefits. I will enjoy exploring all your other videos. I want to try and expand my mezzo soprano voice and hopefully enable me to sing different styles of music. I got stuck in learning musical songs and I was pretty dreadful singing modern songs.
I've always been a soprano and soprano 1 in choir, so I just thought I was a mezzo with a nice upper range. I never really delved into my lower range until about six months ago when I had to rehearse a few songs by men, and we noticed I was able to sing several of the songs sung by tenors without changing the key. So far, I've been able to sing down to a C3 and up to an E6, which has been really cool :) don't let your voice classification limit you ladies, but focus on your range instead😊💗
Gracia Chacon same people always told me that I was an alto but I realized im actually a mezzo that can sing from A2-B5-Bb7 and I have embraced my higher register and I love singing soprano parts now when I used to be insecure and take the alto parts to be safe.
Thank you!! This helped confirm mine and my singing teacher's recent suspicions - I'm actually a mezzo. I had been singing soprano repertoire throughout undergrad (deceptively bright timbre, plus my range covers all three of these which is why I got away with it for so long) and it pretty much worked less the older I got. Mezzo repertoire seems to get better technical results - because although I have the capabilities to sing an F3 and a C6, I'm happiest and have the best sound in the A3-A5 range, so definitely mezzo.
I'm somewhere between Alto and Mezzosoprano but I'm not good enough at singing to know exactly now. Maybe after a few months. But I sing really comfortable songs from Selena and Taylor. With your help(as I practice your exercises seriously and almost daily for about 3 weeks) I even slay some of them. Well "slay" is a big word, but I just want to emphasise that I improved A LOT. I could barely sang an octave before now I can sing two. Thanks!
This is the third and shortest video on this subject I've seen in a row now, and the one easiest to follow! Like BAM, alto was the most comfortable to sing, but then I haven't trained so mezzo might work eventually? Thank you!
i realized that i was an alto pretty recently because i'm taking a musical theatre class. I've always considered myself to be a soprano but when i auditioned i realized that i was comfortable with the lower notes and most of the other girls sang like an octave higher than i did.
You can’t change your vocal classification. It’s decided on the color of your voice, which is unique. What you CAN change is your range since you can work towards a higher or lower range by training. Si no, a contralto can’t be a soprano no matter how hard she tries to (and viceversa).
I can hit every note comfortably except C6 Edit: to anyone who can help, what is my most _probable or likely_ choral part/voice type? *My comfortable range is B2-B5.* PS.I know the type/part is also dependent on the timbre, fullness, warmth and colour of your voice while singing certain notes.
When I was in high school, my choir instructor placed me as mezzo but we used the terms first alto and second alto. I can go high up to a certain note so my music mentor at church (he was also the leader of the worship team) always tried to push/encourage me to reach the higher notes and sing higher ranged songs.
Mezzo here! I sing for a klezmer band, and in our more jazzy pieces I tend to sing down toward contralto, but in our folk songs I tend more toward the higher end of mezzo up into soprano range.
great video! i sang as a "high soprano" in choir when I was a kid in school but i don't think that is my comfort after watching some videos. I can go incredibly high but I love to sing at the top of the mezzo range and lower soprano. I guess like you said it just depends on a few different factors. :)
Thanks a lot! I figured out at last. It took me a few repetitions and to listen carefully to my voice to finally understand where there was something that was bothering me. I can't sing those highest soprano notes with ease straight away. I can sing alto and mezzo. But i have a little bit of discomfort singing the lowest alto notes. I'm mezzo. And i'm SO happy that i'm mezzo!
My comfortable range is from alto to mezzo soo that means I'm an alto-mezzo, right? As a girl, I've always had a deeper voice than my classmates and it gets quite hard sometimes because I kinda sound like a guy.
range isn’t the most important factor while determining vocal fach. First and foremost, the vocal fach system was initially formulated to be applied only to classically trained singers, thus the reason why so many classical singers and teachers may even call the fact of assigning a vocal fach to a pop or non-classical singer BLASPHEMY. Specially in women, in which they mostly use the “middle voice” or a combination of head and chest registers very early on in their ranges (anywhere from D4-E4) compared to a non-classical female singer who would most likely be singing most of time in a chest dominant mix. When people make videos like this one in which people who have undergone little to no formal voice training (whether it is classical or not) they usually led to the average person to believe if that you can hit a certain range of notes, you’re automatically classified and put into a box. That is not the truth. For the most part, human voices usually stretch well beyond 2.5 octaves, and usually vocal ranges overlap between different vocal types. Other factors such as the passagio regions, tessitura, output and color play into the voice classification. And that is assuming that the singer in question has at the very least undergone to a minimal degree of vocal training and has an understanding of correct breathing techniques, support and placement. The average person watching this video most likely has never had any formal vocal training, and thus you can’t be sure of what voice type you are, unless you actually invest the time and effort to train your instrument and correctly use it. Although by then you’ll see that the least of your worries will be which vocal type are you 😉
Bet you have a beautiful voice! Don't ever be ashamed of the gift God has given you. I am a Contralto and I love my voice type. I can sing ALL of the tenor types of some of our greatest male singers, and of course I can sing like Anita Baker, Gladys Knight, Tony Braxton, Adele, Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Aretha Franklin, etc. (tho most of them are soprano's or mezzo-sopranos , i have the tange to easily sing some of their songs).
This entire time I thought I was an alto.. I’m actually a mezzo? But I can also sing tenor. Thank you for this video. I didn’t realize the range in my voice!
I've always been an alto, except one year when my high school choir teacher decided to spice things up and make me a soprano. Definitely not one. I've always felt comfortable as an alto, and think my voice sounds more full, warm, and less strained there. This little test confirmed it.
is it normal when you hit high notes but using falcetto? or not? I need vocal training 😢 I have a good voice but I dont know how to manage it. i really want to become a singer , a performer but I am confused about my voice. what should I do?
No, this it only about notes you can do with chest/head voice, falsettos doesnt count to supported range, so if you´re not able to hit the high notes with chest/head voice then you are not a soprano or mezzo
if you want i can help you because im learning by myself or sometimes i watch some videos and im trying to do these things...maybe if you send me a recorning of your singing on my email that would be great and i would give you some advices :)
I went into a recording studio to record songs on a cd years ago. The guy there said I should try Opera? For some reason it offended me. Because i always though my voice was low.
When you were playing the notes, I was able to sing all parts, and go a little lower than alto, and a little higher than soprano. I guess I'm comfortable in the Mezzo range, but could sing anything.
Yes try warming up first (we have plenty of warm ups available here) and then see, even if you can not hit those top notes now, it doesn't mean that you wont be able to hit them with a few months of training. :)
I’m a male and I hit all of those notes. When I took the male test I hit the tenor and baritone notes and I missed only 3 of the base notes. I can hit higher than that C6 at the end so what am I?
ThatGreenDayFreak I would probably agree but the fact that my breaking point is an A#/B4 as opposed to a C4 it makes me lean more towards the tenor range. But you could be right, i don’t even know
oh wow this helped me open my eyes, im actually an alto. as a kid, i always wanted to be a soprano so bad bc i always thought that was most feminine. i misclassified myself wrongly as a mezzo for years
To me I tend to like mezzos. They have much power when they sing in their ranges. Like Adele and Idina Menzel. The sopranos can hit high notes no problem but too much high notes (depending on the song) makes it a bit overshooting some portions of the song at least to me. Also, when they try low notes it sounds so artificial.
All over youtube people are saying there is no alto just contralto. I am an alto and not contralto and not mezzo so I'm glad you guys use the term alto.
I used to be a soprano, even had a voice coach tell me so when I opted for a mezzo soprano song. Now I can't even hit the highest mezzo soprano note in this tutorial. Guess I can always fall back on my alto range, but I'm afraid that range does nothing for my joy of singing :-/
It's the range that is most comfortable and natural for you to sing in. It also depends on the tone of your voice a little. There's no saying for sure unless a professional hears you. Although I believe most women are mezzos.
Also, remember that a LOT can change after you warm up. Without warming up, my comfortablle range is alto and mezzo (minuts the last like, 2 high notes). With warm up. it's definately more mezzo soprano.
I've been trying to figure out my vocal type for years. I think I'm either mezzo or soprano but my range is extremely large and I am very very loud. Like ear drum shattering loud. D3-G6 is my comfort zone but I can go lower and a lot higher. The higher I sing the louder I get.
(This is just personal opinion after looking at different singer’s ranges) I feel like most altos can sing comfortably down to a C3 or lower and starts to feel the need to mix around a F4 and then switch to head voice around a C5. Mezzos can usually sing down to an E3, with the mix coming in around an A4 and switches to head voice around an E5. Sopranos can usually go to B3, using a mix around E5 and into head voice at a B5.
So for alto, I could easily sing the first breath, but for the second one my voice got a bit strained at the end. What does this mean? Am I an untrained alto? Or not one at all? I don't think I could go lower easily either.
I can speak comfortably in the C3 range but can go as low as B2 in vocal fry. I can also do a heady mix to C#6 and belt comfortably to G#5. My falsetto range is from F5-E6. My whistle is from F6-F7. And yes, I'm passed puberty. What's my vocal classification? 😩
All 3 were comfortable for me. I usually sing songs in the Mezzo Soprano range, though there are also a lot I sing in the Alto range, as well as the Soprano range. So I'm gonna guess I'm a Mezzo Soprano lol.
This was so helpful, thank you! I also have a pretty wide range but am strongest in the mezzo-soprano range. I can sing outside of that range, which was confusing to me as far as classification. I don’t like labels either, but I did want to know where I fell. Thank you!!
Question: my comfortable range starts from below where you started and ends before you reached the higher notes for the alto. I sang in school choir for eleven years with a director who was a nightmare. He taught us NOTHING and forced all girls to sing first or second soprano. I wrecked my voice trying to get higher than I could go. Now: twenty plus years later... I really want to attempt to sing again, but I'm realizing that I was likely NEVER anywhere in the soprano range and my comfort area... appears to be below what women are supposed to sing. So what am I??

Yeah, definitely a soprano. My range is A2-A6 (range us still growing), tessitura is A3-A5, very light quality, not very warm in general, good at vocal acrobatics. I thought I was a mezzo for a long time until I took interest in classical singing.
Alto is choral. If you're not talking about choral vocals, the proper term would be contralto, but this doesn't take into regard the timbre needed for that vocal classification. 'Alto' in choir is a near equivalent to mezzo soprano in the vocal fach, so this video may cause confusion. To clarify: Alto in choral terms = Mezzo soprano fach Alto in non-choral terms = Contralto fach, but always regard androgynous timber. MANY Mezzos can hit C3, or even lower if trained properly, but the timbre (or 'color' of the voice) and tessitura is crucial. If you don't have that androgynous tone (look up artists like Annie Lennox and Cher), then you're likely a mezzo similar in range to Adele, or another artist that can hit a surprisingly deep, warm tone, but still sound feminine.
I can hit from about G3 to Db6. I did have voice lessons as a teen, and one teacher said I was a mezzo, another said I was a soprano. When I dick around with arias now - a good 15 years older - I feel equally comfortable with both, as long as they are dramatic. I have power, but not much finesse.
im in choir so my voice has changed dramatically, but i was always an incredibly high soprano 1... but now my comfortable range exceeds the soprano one played
My choir teacher put me in Tenor. I'm comfortable singing Tenor, Alto and Mezzo Soprano ranges, but there were way too many Sopranos and Altos in our choir and very few Tenors. So there's 4 female Tenors and 3 males.
I know just what you mean here Anna. I did the other Verba Vocal test and I came through as Mezzo Soprano. But I am also one to "stretch" my ranges and I can now (after a year with you) sing O MIO BABBINO CARO. I practised and practised goodness knows how many times and I can now hit the high notes in the song. Also I love Musical Theatre and whilst I could sing Phantom fairly comfortably, I had to start the range of "aahh's" at the end of the song, on a lower note. But know what? It just wasn't right for the song. I know I was on key because I think I have a good sense of pitch. I am NEVER the type to give up and I will not let anything defeat me. My determination paid off and I can now sing all the first four lines of ahh's followed by the four single notes, into the crescendo at the end at which point I nearly deafen myself. Sometimes I just cannot believe how much you have helped me, and I will always endorse your lessons. By the way, I am now learning HABANERA because I speak French and so can pronounce the lyrics, whereas in O MIO I had to practise the pronunciation first and I understand the story too. Foundations are SO necessary and I hope your other followers realise that. Kindest regards as always
Weirdly, I've always been a mezzo since I was younger but my choral instructor have always said I have a very bright voice. He sometimes needed someone to sing parts between soprano 1 & 2 so he had me and another sop 2 to support. It was confusing.
when your voice is too low for high notes but too high for low notes XD

An alto is not a voce classification!!! Is a choral part. Female voice types are: Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano and CONTRALTOS. Contraltos are very very rare, they have very cavernous, robust and booming lower register, an androgynous and powerful sounding middle voice, and an overly bright and usually underdeveloped airy head voice.
Hope you can upload a video or a little snippet of you singing, I'm a sucker for real Contraltos lol
definitely an alto lol.
Even those high notes were quite high for me.. :( am I a guy or something?
Exactly, I just have a low voice.
Are y'all able to do those high pitch screams? Cause I can't, I used to be able to when I was back in elementary school!
I think my voice is even lower than the Alto Voice
Maybe you don't know how to change your chest voice, I thought I was an alto, now I don't know.
Well said
eternalsilverlight This comment is more helpful than the video for me.
Color & timbre.... Refers to if a voice is bright or warm am I correct? I am still learning...
I literally struggled for ages trying to find out what type I was! Thanks! x
No problem Nadia :)
you can find this information in about one second by googling voice types :-/ you're on the internet you know..? But you can't just tell by trying to sing these notes, you need to take some lessons with a good teacher to find out what range is comfortable when you are singing with correct technique.
orlando098 I’m frustrated because Google says I have to be a contralto because I’m a woman but practically every example of a contralto given songs way higher than me. Give me a dude’s Tenor part any day.
I believe I'm a mezzo, that's where i'm the most comfortable singing. I sing in the alto range, but it feels like I have to think about it for my voice to stay there.
Same
Lol. I hate being an alto because it’s taken away a lot of my soprano power I once had
I'm a sexy alto. Who else is a sexy alto? ☺
Gingivitic Cinema I'm sexy alto too :D
Gingivitic Cinema im an ugly alto
Ceren Yıldız noooo you're not! Every girl is pretty.
Gingivitic Cinema i think i'm just not a good singer i didn't sound good in any 💀but i felt the most comfortable in alto
I'm a Contralto, I go from a D3 - G5 :) very thick, full voice and harsh but still feminine:)
Mezzo soprano - more comfortable in Mezzo range, but in choir situations can sing soprano and or "tenor" parts. Comfort though is probably the Mezzo range :)
Awesome! Keep it up!
LOL! "subscribe to encourage mark to talk"
hehe
Candra Janée Cherry lol
There's no such thing as "alto" in voice type. Alto is a choral line in choir (the main melody). If you are talking about the lowest female voice type, that is "contralto".
Donnie the knife nut Bunny it can be shortened to alto though... it’s just easier than saying contralto
Isn't contralto a bit lower than the alto range that she posited? Just curious.
lunarlena Donnie is actually correct. Alto is just a choir term for the lower half of the woman vocal types (mezzos and contraltos), while contralto is an actual vocal type a the lowest women’s vocal type.
A teacher told me Alto is term for males, Contralto female.
So if my range is the alto range in this video, does that make me a contralto? Or do contraltos typically have a different range than the one presented in this video?
Thank you :) I think I am an alto most comfortably, but I can reach mezzo and sopprano (just).
Great :)
I cant jesus i need lesons,i cant finish those higher notes on the alto scale
Me, at the end of both alto and soprano: *wheezing/coughing*
Maybe you have asthma? Do you have the same issue when you exercise? Ask your doctor if you would benefit from a bronchodilator inhaler.
I always thought I'm a soprano but apparently I'm a mezzo soprano...
thank you Anna!💜
+G3ven 👍
G3ven What's the difference?
Lol 123 it shows how range is like... like the verity of notes you can sing
She'd have pretty much the same range as a male Tenor, but with a completely different timbre- (so hence, she could also be viewed as a "female Tenor." I know a lot of Contraltos who actually call themselves "female Tenors", and they sing in the Tenor section of the choir that I'm in.
G3ven isn't that count if u use head voice???
Wow what the time has done to me. I was a soprano once.. I barely make the mezzo category now. I need to get working on my voice again!
We are glad that you are here with us. Check out the 7 day program videos. You can find them also on www.verbavocal.com
+Gracia Chacon Agreed!
Gracia Chacon same people always told me that I was an alto but I realized im actually a mezzo that can sing from A2-B5-Bb7 and I have embraced my higher register and I love singing soprano parts now when I used to be insecure and take the alto parts to be safe.
@@taya989 You have the same range I do and in fact, I'm also a mezzo 😁
The first half of alto is super easy but the rest of the half is hard
I'm somewhere between Alto and Mezzosoprano but I'm not good enough at singing to know exactly now. Maybe after a few months. But I sing really comfortable songs from Selena and Taylor. With your help(as I practice your exercises seriously and almost daily for about 3 weeks) I even slay some of them. Well "slay" is a big word, but I just want to emphasise that I improved A LOT. I could barely sang an octave before now I can sing two. Thanks!
+Ela Black Amazing news! 😀
If you can sing Taylor and Selena's songs you're definitely somewhere between.... Because Selena is a Mezzo-Soprano (Alto).
I'm a girl and my voice is deep
Hi
Samee
*when ur voice is lower than everyone else in ur class*
Me too
You can’t change your vocal classification. It’s decided on the color of your voice, which is unique. What you CAN change is your range since you can work towards a higher or lower range by training.
Si no, a contralto can’t be a soprano no matter how hard she tries to (and viceversa).
I am confused between soprano and mezzo, and you are really a great teacher I love learning with you, you are a must-have teacher, love you
+chitra quiriyal Soprano is just higher than mezzo, that's all!
@@VerbaVocal2-3 tone
I can hit every note comfortably except C6
Edit: to anyone who can help, what is my most _probable or likely_ choral part/voice type? *My comfortable range is B2-B5.*
PS.I know the type/part is also dependent on the timbre, fullness, warmth and colour of your voice while singing certain notes.
I’m confused…. The second part when she is not singing along, is too high for me in all 3 versions?
I honestly thought I would be in the mezzo soprano range, but I actually found the alto notes much easier to hit, so I guess I'm an alto 🎶
When I was in high school, my choir instructor placed me as mezzo but we used the terms first alto and second alto. I can go high up to a certain note so my music mentor at church (he was also the leader of the worship team) always tried to push/encourage me to reach the higher notes and sing higher ranged songs.
I can sing the alto and mezzo.
Same.
So can i
We are just mezzo Sopranos with a wide range according to the internet
Same
Am a mezzo soprano. Thank you Anna you are amazing!
I'm surprised you didn't demonstrate your vocal range :) cool video and channel !
+El Jay Rose Thank you!
Any other ladies’ voices deeper than alto and strained to finish those alto scales?Just me over here with my “man voice”? Okay 😭😂
I strained not to go into falsetto by the end of alto. Man my voice is deep.
Yah I can't do the higher part of the alto range . I can go lower though. I can usually do the higher range of the highest make range
This video helped me realize that, although my range is alto (low) through mezzo (high), I am more comfortable singing alto than mezzo.
Just figured out I'm an Alto! I was debating whether I was a mezzo or an alto. I tried the soprano and I ended up screaming I hurt my own ears lol :)
+Martin Maraj i want an advice. i have the same concern as her
wait whATTTT that means I can't even reach an alto range gOD HELP ME
Me too 😥
I went into a recording studio to record songs on a cd years ago. The guy there said I should try Opera? For some reason it offended me. Because i always though my voice was low.
Не е обида, а комплимент. Оперните певци имат силни гласове.
When you were playing the notes, I was able to sing all parts, and go a little lower than alto, and a little higher than soprano. I guess I'm comfortable in the Mezzo range, but could sing anything.
High diapason. ❤
What if you're comfortable in both

LyraFerret contralto is almost the same as alto..though this classification is usually used in opera while alto is in choir..
I think i am,im like 13 tho so
I think I am. The alto range was a little high for me.
Great breakdown Thanks 🙏🏼
I'm a mezzo soprano, but I can't take those higher notes exactly, but I just might need a bit more warm up. c:
Yes try warming up first (we have plenty of warm ups available here) and then see, even if you can not hit those top notes now, it doesn't mean that you wont be able to hit them with a few months of training. :)
I'm mostly an Alto, and I could barely do the first half of messo soprano (the part before she said I could breathe).
I'm a mezzo-soprano and I was surprised to discover I could sing high. While I can sing low, I'm not comfortable with it.
But you could be right, i don’t even know
A diva.
A liar
Music Fan haha nah I’m telling the truth
Xavier Wills lol anyways, range doesn’t determine which vocal type are you. Other factors come into play.
oh wow this helped me open my eyes, im actually an alto. as a kid, i always wanted to be a soprano so bad bc i always thought that was most feminine. i misclassified myself wrongly as a mezzo for years
To me I tend to like mezzos. They have much power when they sing in their ranges. Like Adele and Idina Menzel.
The sopranos can hit high notes no problem but too much high notes (depending on the song) makes it a bit overshooting some portions of the song at least to me. Also, when they try low notes it sounds so artificial.
Adel is alt.
All over youtube people are saying there is no alto just contralto. I am an alto and not contralto and not mezzo so I'm glad you guys use the term alto.
I'm in between mezzo and soprano but I'm only 13 so I have time to develop ranges and hopefully go higher 😉 we out here trying to be ariana grande 😂
I can sing relatively comfortably in all of these ranges. I think I'm most comfortable in Mezzo or Alto, but I'm not totally sure.
Can i ask? If i use head voice isn't that count? Cause i got mezzo
+이 상 한 아 이 미 Head voice is fine, falsetto isn't.
I used to be a soprano, even had a voice coach tell me so when I opted for a mezzo soprano song. Now I can't even hit the highest mezzo soprano note in this tutorial. Guess I can always fall back on my alto range, but I'm afraid that range does nothing for my joy of singing :-/
Ummmm.....I was comfortable with singing along all the notes....What's my vocal type can anyone tell me lol 😂😂
I LOVED THIS VIDEO ❤️❤️❤️❤️
if u can sing all these ranges u have classified, then who are you??
It's the range that is most comfortable and natural for you to sing in. It also depends on the tone of your voice a little. There's no saying for sure unless a professional hears you. Although I believe most women are mezzos.
+Redempta Nyamanda Very lucky! But it's about what is most comfortable and sounds warmest.
Ok...thanks
:D
Also, remember that a LOT can change after you warm up. Without warming up, my comfortablle range is alto and mezzo (minuts the last like, 2 high notes). With warm up. it's definately more mezzo soprano.
I've been trying to figure out my vocal type for years. I think I'm either mezzo or soprano but my range is extremely large and I am very very loud. Like ear drum shattering loud. D3-G6 is my comfort zone but I can go lower and a lot higher. The higher I sing the louder I get.
Thank you so much! This is the most helpful video I could find to classify my voice quick haha! 💜
I’m a soprano but some people wonder if I’m mezzo too coz I can go low ish e or f3 but high full sound to a6
(This is just personal opinion after looking at different singer’s ranges) I feel like most altos can sing comfortably down to a C3 or lower and starts to feel the need to mix around a F4 and then switch to head voice around a C5. Mezzos can usually sing down to an E3, with the mix coming in around an A4 and switches to head voice around an E5. Sopranos can usually go to B3, using a mix around E5 and into head voice at a B5.
anyone a mezzo?

So for alto, I could easily sing the first breath, but for the second one my voice got a bit strained at the end. What does this mean? Am I an untrained alto? Or not one at all? I don't think I could go lower easily either.
Thanks! They always had me sing soprano in choir, but I struggled to hit the highest notes. Mezzo soprano seems to be the perfect range for me 😊
I can speak comfortably in the C3 range but can go as low as B2 in vocal fry.
Thank you!!
Lol. I'm alto. Does that mean I can never sing high? =/
But what if I’m comfortable in both mezzo and soprano? I’ve been both in choirs and honestly prefer soprano but idk which I sound best in.

I can reach from an E3 to an F6, what does that mean???
Yeah, definitely a soprano. My range is A2-A6 (range us still growing), tessitura is A3-A5, very light quality, not very warm in general, good at vocal acrobatics. I thought I was a mezzo for a long time until I took interest in classical singing.
I can sing all the pitches that he played. The problem is I still don’t think I’m a soprano based on my usual tone. Can someone please help me?😣
I just learn how to do whistle note today. Omg it's so fun. Really hard to switch from normal singing voice into whistle notes.
Alto is choral. If you're not talking about choral vocals, the proper term would be contralto, but this doesn't take into regard the timbre needed for that vocal classification. 'Alto' in choir is a near equivalent to mezzo soprano in the vocal fach, so this video may cause confusion.
To clarify:
Alto in choral terms = Mezzo soprano fach
Alto in non-choral terms = Contralto fach, but always regard androgynous timber.
Are soprano 2's the same as mezzo soprano?
I can hit from about G3 to Db6. I did have voice lessons as a teen, and one teacher said I was a mezzo, another said I was a soprano. When I dick around with arias now - a good 15 years older - I feel equally comfortable with both, as long as they are dramatic. I have power, but not much finesse.
I can sing all except for the top C in soprano. I typically sing for soprano, though. 3 years ago I had no head voice and was an alto.
im in choir so my voice has changed dramatically, but i was always an incredibly high soprano 1... but now my comfortable range exceeds the soprano one played
I can sing all of them, badly.
Weirdly, I've always been a mezzo since I was younger but my choral instructor have always said I have a very bright voice. He sometimes needed someone to sing parts between soprano 1 & 2 so he had me and another sop 2 to support. It was confusing.
Mezzo here, thanks for the advice I never explored it before.
I can sing like mezzo and alto :”) WHAT DOES THAT MEAN
I can sing every note you played, but I sing 1st soprano in choir because I am most comfortable in that range
