I've spent my whole life trying to sing, and always being flat. But now I realise I was trying to sing like a girl! Today I've discovered my comfortable range is about B2 to A4.
My daughter is a rare female tenor. Me, I am the rare basso profondo (actually a little lower than average one). So that's understandable, since I didn't really understand how broad my range actually was, until I actually began training in my late 20's. My day-to-day range is B0-D5. Using other techniques and on-mic, it's more like E0-G5.
Ya don't have to sing flat "as a girl"- (I'm assuming, at this point, that you're a bloke!) That's where register-switches come in bloody handy! If ya wanna sing what you're calling "female notes", then switch into head-voice, as opposed to trying to stretch your belt register that high, 'cos that ain't gunna happen, mush, and trust me, you'll do yourself a bloody mischief, even bleedin' trying, mate!
I have been using these workouts for the past eight weeks and longer. Boredom did not set in from doing the same scales over and over again. I had to really concentrate on the riffs and runs For accuracy. My breathing was challenged and improved. And I was singing those high notes without even realizing it.This is an awesome channel.., Many of the workouts are different ,challenging and I know my voice is improved.Thank you for putting such professional and helpful vocal coaching on RUclips.
F3-Bb5! Can’t wait to continue to build my upper register. Thank you for your videos. I’ve been lax on my vocal exercises and I have lost some of my range. Your videos are wonderful. You are my favorite online vocal coach.
I try to sing at a local club for a year or so. I am an enthusiast in singing and taking lessons for almost 5 years. I was always told that I am a metzosoprano, but sometimes I had to sing as an Alto at some Acapella Groups , and at several times served as Soprano. In this test my range was B2 to C#6 so I still do not know my classification.
Oh wow, I have been singing in choirs and solo for about 4 years now and have been taking lessons for 2 years, and the first time I took a range test I could only go from E3 - E5... But now I can go from C2 - A#6! A little emotional because I never thought I could ever improve that much.. I'm so happy! Lol
Did you check this on a tuner/ pitch check app? Coz I’d say you’re more likely singing an octave up without realising. That’s still a great increase in range
Chest voice : F5 - D#3 (I can go to D3 but it doesn't sound as good so I'll stop here) Whistle : B6 Head voice : B5 Absolute lowest : B2 I really like singing but I'm not very talented at it, but I'm pretty happy with my results and I hope I can improve more in the future! Thank you for the video :D
WERK!! Mine are almost the exact same, I'm still getting used to staying on pitch when I sing and finding the right key for me (because I want to do it all) but I've been impressing myself by not singing and working on holding steady notes. I'm having so much fun learning I can sing lower and higher than i thought possible. I even accidentally unlocked my false chords, my inner metal head is so happy with it. 😆
G5 (highest chest voice, into head voice) G6 (highest head voice, into whistle register) Absolute Highest note: A#6 Absolute Lowest note: F#3 Edit: To clarify, I classify myself as mezzo-soprano.
you sound like a soprano. That's about exactly an octave above me, i am a high tenor. I've definitely expanded lower than F#2 but that was my starting bottom note. You definitely aren't a mezzo if youre barely squeaking out F#3.
@@muslimmetalman, Strohbass or subharmonics, most likely. No female on the planet is going to hit a C2 in chest voice. I mean, only around 3% of men can hit a C2 in full chest voice.
D6-G2. Just starting to work on vocals. Horrors, I've been a gigging jazz vocalist and I haven't been doing any vocal workouts. I'll be back with an update after I work on my upper range. Think I could have taken it a half step lower. Thanks! Love this these workouts.
D3 to E6. (I strain above C6.) I am normally an instrumentalist but had to take a voice class in college, a music major requirement. My instructor said I was a mezzo and kept giving me music that went to F6, which I just can't hit. Then the piano accompanist scolded me for singing above my range, handed me the contralto part, and OH MY GOODNESS, I felt my voice open up. I felt like the mezzo music was hurting my throat. I wouldn't mind getting back into singing. Years ago, I even taught myself throat singing. So fun! I've been thinking about picking that up again.
i spent a year of intense training and development of my voice and vocal range and LET ME TELL YOU the improvements! march 2022: E3-A5 (barely C6) march 2023: D3-F#6 (G6 on a good day😭)
I injured my voice over 15 years ago while pushing too hard to try to work on my upper register. I've been afraid to even try to go above an E5 ever since because I don't want to reinjure my voice. Tonight, I decided to relax, trust my voice and see what happens. I went from A#2 on the low end to F#5 on the high end! What surprised me even more is that I haven't been actively in choir for over 4 years now. I now know that I can work to get my range back to where it previously was. Plus, I added a few notes on the low end after my injury, so it will be fun to be able to choose to sing between tenor, alto and soprano 2 in choir again. ☺ My "comfortable" range is C3 to D5. Contraltos all the way! 😁
Age: 17 31 may 21 : highest : d6 lowest : f sharp 3 Age : 18 3 may 22 : highest : c#6 one note lower Lowest : d sharp 3 , two notes lower compared to last year
This was great. I know my range was always large, but I got a G2-C#6 today. I used to be able to go higher but am out of shape, lol. Even though I’m comfortable as an alto my last choir director insisted on putting me in with the upper sopranos, possibly because she believed my range could extend upward, but more probably because my pitch is excellent and to have me anchor wobblier sopranos. ;) Liked and subscribed.
D3-F6, my range has actually gotten larger since I was in school for voice, but I haven't really been keeping up with practicing recently. I'll have to get back into it, and I think this channel will help me with that. Maybe I'll finally get up to that C7, lol.
D3 - B6 (C7 on a good day) thanks for this video! I've been a soprano 1 for 6 years but I just got put on soprano 2 and I miss singing sky-high so I like to do videos like this to make sure I still have my highest range so I don't lose it :)
@@beeapprentice2725 i was having a not-so-great vocal day when i met my professor while he was assigning voice parts. i’m still on sop 2 and i’ve learned to like it because it’s more musically challenging for me and i like getting better at harmonies instead of always singing melody. he would probably switch me if i asked him to but i kinda like sop 2 better now 😂
A2-C#6, and I’m not that warmed up, plus I’m a bit congested. Thank you for this great test, now I finally know my comfortable range. Also, reading everyone else’s comments here help me to feel I’m not as bad as I thought, but that I have range decent enough to work with. Also thank you for all of the great exercises, it’s great to find exercises for almost anything I want to work on. 👍🙏
My range is a G2 to an G#5.. but I can go up to a D6 with my newly discovered whistle notes. I would love to see some contralto exercises, but I know I'm a rare breed. Maybe more baritone exercises? I can do the baritone exercises, but those are rare to find also. ( I just found your new exercise video for baritones, it was as if you were reading my mind lol. I'm super glad I found you now)
highest for full chest (without mixing, and without warmup) is around A#4, but with warmup a B4 highest for falsetto/head voice is around D#6 on a good day, but consistently around C6 lowest note is D3, on good days C#3
I'm totally new to singing. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be listening for to find my range. Is it just when it's "hard" or starts to hurt? And how do I know if it actually sounds good?
You want the note to flow smoothly, not gruff, and if you did the note over and over it shouldn’t hurt. It should be on pitch (you can use a guitar or other tuner to determine pitch) and have a clear sound. That means it’s within your range
I'm 58 and my lowest easiest is A2 and A5 on a good day, but my "break"/crack is quite low. I've always had trouble trying to make a song work... I guess I fall in the Alto, but everyone is surprised when i hit those high notes - so i use them for punch, lol.
Somehow I hit a C3 and a C7! Pretty rad! I really have to explore more of my lower and higher registers! Then I kept going with a bit more vocal fry and hit the G2!
My full vocal fry is a D1 but I thought we were supposed to count notes only not vocal fry if we can I guess I'm d1-a5. My grandma naturally has a speaking voice at around c2. Mine though is generally just g3. Which is deeper for a female so I guess that's why I favor lower notes to higher notes.
Absolute highest note- A#6 Absolute lowest note- D#3 (I'm 15, started singing/performing around age 3 and have never been vocally trained) (I classify as a soprano/soprano 1)
Wooh this is amazing my highest range is B5 and lowest range is C#3. Thank you so much I need to practice and push myself to go on further and challenge myself to reach the one step lower and higher note of my comfortable scale😊😊😊😊
I hope ya don't mind blokes getting in on the act! Lowest: G2- (full chest-voice), to highest: A5- (head-voice). However, current comfortable lowest: D3- (soft chest-voice), to current comfortable highest: F5- (head-voice).
D3-D#6 Edit: Ngl, I currently have nodules on my vocal chords but I'm still actually surprised I got this high in my vocal range... Thank you for making this video! 🙏💕
C3 - C7 - could be a couple higher notes if I warm up more. This is a good tool. I went to vocal classes as a child and then to music college and I was singing professionaly in my 20s, till I hurt my voice several time and its become unusable. I could sing 1-2 song and then I would start to loose voice and basically wake up next morning unable to talk, so I was not able to work concerts any more or anything without hurting my voice. So my singing career ended, now I'm 54 and I don't sing anymore for long time, just wanted to test my ability to take notes lol.
my range used to be like F3-F6ish, but now it's like C#3 as my lowest to about E6 as my highest maximum comfortable note, I'm a lot more comfortable in my lower range than my higher range though.
Thank's a lot! I've always thought that I was just bad at hitting the right notes in songs but I've got it all wrong! My range starts at B2 and ends at G5! The only thing I need to find out now is, what voice type I am!
Hi Ian , love your channel , thankyou for the great workout videos , so my comfortable range is from C3 TO B5 , so would that make me an alto or contralto alto ?
G2 to D5 (straining after G4) - although I know I can actually go down to F2 and probably E2 I was assigned MALE at birth. I describe myself as a contralto (I'm trans and this helps) as opposed to a tenor - I'm in the alto section in my choir as opposed to the baritone section (SAB choir), but my performance voice (solo singing/theatre voice) is in my chest voice and is definitely baritone to tenor. Depends on the context of where/how I'm singing.
D3-B5 is my vocal range without straining, just three semitones away from almost spanning three octaves. I'm trying to get comfortable as a mezzo, as I like to sing a lot of alto and tenor songs. However, I was always afraid of singing high especially during my time in choir so I thought I was an alto for the longest time. But the reason why I struggled so much with belting was because I wasn't specifically trained to do that, so I felt like I was shouting. There are ways to belt without having to strain my voice, as it's all about placement and not forcing the belt.
D3-B5. If I have the right diaphragm support, I can hit C#6. I've been a Soprano 1 since I was 9 years old until 14 years old. I took a break from singing for 2 years. When I joined an adult choir in my church at 16, I was put in Alto 2 because the choir lack of Alto 2, and I didn't exercise my voice for 2 years. When I was a freshman in university, I joined a choir student and my coach put me in Soprano 2 and Alto 1. To be honest, I enjoyed being Soprano 2 and Alto 1, but I prefer being Soprano 2 (because my soul is still in Soprano). And I classify myself as Mezzo-Soprano.
OMG thank u, this was sooo helpful!! no warm up: high D#7 and low F3 ( I think I'm a mezzo soprano(?)) i´ll check back in a couple of moths to see if my vocal training has given me any result :)
@@marwilliamson6996 Sing the higher parts/sing the soprano parts if your comfortable there and tell her to move you up there and if she doesn't screw her keep singing the higher parts because your comfortable there. I'm a Full soprano but people keep telling me I'm an alto or low soprano and I'm like no I just don't wanna sing high. So I decided to prove it one day in rehearsal and they were in shock. My point is Prove THEM WRONG hope that helps
@@marwilliamson6996 You welcome, I'm just trying to help because I can relate to that and it kinda makes me sad to go back to those times so I like to help people who need advice and my friends told me that I'm good at giving advice so I decided to help people in need or who have problems.
C7 (highest) - D#3 I absolutely love singing upper level and my vocal coach couldn't tell whether I was Soprano 2 or 1 then she had me do this test and it came out as 1 thank you so much ❤️❤️💃🏼
Wow we are identical lol almost I'm an f2-a5 but I generally sing 3rd and fourth octave. I can use high notes more because I practice those but it's actually easier to sustain lower notes I don't really get as tired as I do high notes.
No warm up (and it’s 3:30am after a 12hr shift at work): All that considered, I could reach D3 to B4 comfortably. Outside of those it began to teeter on strained or forced. Not extremely so, but just enough to make it clear that my comfortable range was reaching its end. I don’t know what that means, but my guess is that I have a small range and that I need practice (?) What vocal range does that put me in?
A4-g#2. Not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it. I used to have a decent voice but with age it has gotten terrible,I'm trying to strengthen my voice any coaching ideas?
C#2 - D7. Need to work on strengthening it, so I can sing Coloratura parts with confidence. I am a bit blown away, that's 3 notes higher, than January. But I've been doing good warmups, to extend my range - and now I need to pull it all together.
Always been alto 2, recently joined a choir and am singing tenor 1 which feels incredible and rich. My range according to this is C3-A4 in chest B5-B6 in chest/falsetto
G2 - A5. I can get lower in the morning and a tiny bit higher in the best days (very rarely happen though ). I wish I could hit higher notes like I used to 30 years ago...I guess 20+ years of smoking and middle aging lowered my register. Oh well, I'm not that good of a singer anyway (lil' pitchy), just doing it to get out of boredom while doing house chores. I guess my cats think their mother is a Husky kinda breed of human. 😂 Awowowoaoaoowowo...
B2 to G5 for me. I genuinely didn't think I could sing that high ever, so this really helps me! I'm a female I've never done vocal training so the fact that I was able to sing this high and low shocked me. (my voice is slightly deep so that's why)
F#6 and G2 I've noted where the whistle began. How do I know what type my voice is? I never understood how my choir group placed me, and into which range. So, I just let them plonk me in a spot of their choice. Music isn't my field of work, so I always get confused and the range keeps changing very frequently.
I started off singing a few minths ago and my range was pretty small F/G3 to D/F5 really depended on my day And now a few months later I got F3 to B5 so I think thats at least something
Absolute range: G2-G5. Range most comfortable to me: C3-E5. Shift into head voice: C4 Range I most love to sing: A3-A4. My singing teacher told me I'm a mezzo. I know its super rare, but I think I might actually be a true contralto. I find I have the perfect range to sing with tenors (in their octave) and my tone is much fuller around the lower notes. E.g. I can sing the lowest notes in Anti-Hero with ease (the ones Taylof Swift uses vocal fry for).
Apparently I don’t have a great range but I can go from D3 to barely A5 but more like Gb5… what would that make me? I always feel I don’t go deep enough for alto or tenor but not high enough for soprano. I could probably hit some of the even higher ones if trained but it’s really uncomfortable and I switch into head voice fairly quickly
i’ve always been curious but never had the chance to properly find out what are my limitations, now i know my range is D3-c#6 not including whistle register
e3-c6 is where i strain however still recovering from laryngitis and should prbably try again in a week) and im happy with that! can i ask what you mean whistle voice??

As a 12 year old girl (turning 13 in December)
My lowest was
F3 and my highest C#6 I'm kinda proud
Same I’m the same age and that’s my same vocal range I think that’s what most people our age have
Wooh this is amazing my highest range is B5 and lowest range is C#3.
A3-F#5!
Almost 2 octaves. That's good enough for me.
I'm 19 and I've never trained and I just recently developed interest in singing
we have similar ranges! i'm F3-E5 and i've never trained either
I got B2-C#6 what that means?
That’s a good range! Alto to second soprano!
F5-A#2 thank you so much. Contralto is me!
High Note (chest): D5
Low Note: C3
My range is not very wide, specially in higher scales. Hopefully I can improve that
D3-D#6
Edit: Ngl, I currently have nodules on my vocal chords but I'm still actually surprised I got this high in my vocal range...
You’re in the mezzo range with good low notes unless you have a powerful and deeper tone then you’re definitely a contralto
G2 to D5 (straining after G4) - although I know I can actually go down to F2 and probably E2
I was assigned MALE at birth.
This was fun. I wasn't surprised by my highest note (A5-A#5), but I was with my lowest note (A#2).
There are ways to belt without having to strain my voice, as it's all about placement and not forcing the belt.
hi from brazil, love ur channel 🙋🏼♀️
OMG thank u, this was sooo helpful!!
no warm up: high D#7 and low F3
( I think I'm a mezzo soprano(?))
i´ll check back in a couple of moths to see if my vocal training has given me any result :)
Yeah I'm the same!
D3-D6 lol what voice type am i?
@@flickamina8423 Most likely a mezzo
Uh, G2-B5. I wasn't expecting to finish the low notes. That was really neat. Thank you!
Niceee.. just hit ..highA5 and lowA2#
F#3 - A#5 got into voice lessons a couple of months ago and can’t wait to continue to grow my range!!
I’ve been told I’ve been an alto my entire life and I just hit an C6. 😃 My lowest note is G#3
me too i told the worship leader at my Church that i sing high but she have me singing alto i am very uncomfortable what should i do
@@marwilliamson6996 Sing the higher parts/sing the soprano parts if your comfortable there and tell her to move you up there and if she doesn't screw her keep singing the higher parts because your comfortable there. I'm a Full soprano but people keep telling me I'm an alto or low soprano and I'm like no I just don't wanna sing high. So I decided to prove it one day in rehearsal and they were in shock. My point is Prove THEM WRONG hope that helps
@@whitneyhouston1122 Awwww thank you so much ❤️
@@marwilliamson6996 You welcome, I'm just trying to help because I can relate to that and it kinda makes me sad to go back to those times so I like to help people who need advice and my friends told me that I'm good at giving advice so I decided to help people in need or who have problems.
C7 (highest) - D#3 I absolutely love singing upper level and my vocal coach couldn't tell whether I was Soprano 2 or 1 then she had me do this test and it came out as 1 thank you so much ❤️❤️💃🏼
B2-G6
I'm happy with that👀 😭
G4( high)-D3(deep).Are there any song reccomendations?
High A5 - G#2. But I believe if I do some exercises before and more practice this can be extended :) Thanks for the video
G2-G5 here, we're super similar! What do you classify yourself as? Just curious, as I know next to nothing about voice
I don’t know what that means, but my guess is that I have a small range and that I need practice (?)
What vocal range does that put me in?
I somehow managed to sing E3 and E6. I could go higher but at that point it's more squeaking than actual singing. Thanks for this video!
But I've been doing good warmups, to extend my range - and now I need to pull it all together.
im proud of myself! highC#6 lowC3 as a soprano1
That's great 👍
Always been alto 2, recently joined a choir and am singing tenor 1 which feels incredible and rich. My range according to this is C3-A4 in chest B5-B6 in chest/falsetto
A5
A2
🍒
E3- D#6, and I changed to head voice at C6.
I classify myself as a mezzo-soprano!
3:44
A#2-D6!! I'm currently still training my voice, gone through only 1 1/2 years of vocal training so I think that's pretty decent!
C#6
E3
F#6 and G2
I've noted where the whistle began. How do I know what type my voice is? I never understood how my choir group placed me, and into which range. So, I just let them plonk me in a spot of their choice. Music isn't my field of work, so I always get confused and the range keeps changing very frequently.
A6
G2
😬
No warm up: c6 d3, i hope this will be able to help me:)
I started off singing a few minths ago and my range was pretty small
F/G3 to D/F5 really depended on my day
And now a few months later I got F3 to B5 so I think thats at least something
E6 was my stop at the top, laying down half asleep on a Wednesday night 😂 I need to try this one day fully up and alert… lowest was a G2
highest: C7
lowest: C3
My Range is exactly same!!!
Absolute range: G2-G5. Range most comfortable to me: C3-E5.
Shift into head voice: C4
Range I most love to sing: A3-A4.
B2-G5 (G5#-C6 blind) whistles C#6-F6 light lyric (A1/S2)
Apparently I don’t have a great range but I can go from D3 to barely A5 but more like Gb5… what would that make me? I always feel I don’t go deep enough for alto or tenor but not high enough for soprano. I could probably hit some of the even higher ones if trained but it’s really uncomfortable and I switch into head voice fairly quickly
F3, Eb6.......this means coloratura light mezzosoprano?
I am comfortable between B2 and E5. I do have a low voice when singing.
comfortable range
high note c#5
low note d3
38 and haven’t sung in a decade. A2 to C6 with break at D5 (last 3 each way weren’t pretty but they were audible and on pitch).
i’ve always been curious but never had the chance to properly find out what are my limitations, now i know my range is D3-c#6 not including whistle register
D5 to C3 , thanks for this vocal range test, what am I ? according to this range? thank you 😊👍🏻
I got G4 for my highest note and E3 for my lowest!! I think I know why I’ve been so frustrated with singing, I’ve got a lower range than I thought!
c2 - d#6? that means I'm mezzo soprano right?
Highest note in the arpeggio- B5
Lowest-G2
C3 to B5. I can sing a lot lower than I used to and a little bit higher!
G3 to A6 I think but I can get a few quite a few above and below
high: D6 supported, E6 & F#6 were whistle notes for me.
low: D3 (comfortable), c#3 I can technically hit but it’s too low for me to support it.
I got up to D#6 but im a teacher and id be interested to see what itll be like after not having taught for the 2 weeks of school holidays
e3-c6 is where i strain however still recovering from laryngitis and should prbably try again in a week) and im happy with that! can i ask what you mean whistle voice??
C7 to C#3
I used to sing as a kid and
i always knew that my voice is better on highest notes!May be I should start singing again.
G#2- G5 is about it until things get weird 😄🎶 This is why I was an alto in choir. I can whistle much higher though, I’ll have to check that too…
