I had a four panel pocket door kit from Johnson that I completely had to rebuild because the spruce that they built it out of was like a propeller. After that I figured I would just order the tracks separately but they get expensive when you're not buying the kit. Great video! Definitely going to help somebody out.
We need to make a video on that as well. It gets split door jams on the side that the door comes from and on the top solid jam on the side the door closes against.
The door jamb on the opposite side of the pocket will 5/8 or 3/4”. Then you’ll shim that about a quarter inch to make sure it is plumb with the door when closed.
Just confirming if the rough opening height is 84.5" off the subfloor, or off the finished floor. Johnson's instructions don't specifically say. Thanks
Good video but I would’ve liked to have seen the full installation, including the door, I purchased the same kit and found the product to be a piece of garbage. I should’ve done more research in the beginning and bought the better quality pre-assembled pocket kit with the horizontal braces.

Are those the cushion opening and closing door kits. I get the most heavy duty kit i can find with a solid core door.
If you’re deciding to add onto your house or build a new house, who do you normally go through to start the work?
Well done. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
can the dry wall not be attached to the metal studs if you are making a 2x4 wall?
The kit comes with drywall screws that are self tapping for the metal studs
How would we attach the floor plates if our floor is concrete?
The make concrete screws. Look up Tapcon screws
You can also use construction adhesive.
Wondering how exactly you trim out a pocket door
Will do a video on that in the future
How to you attach trim to the aluminum studs?
You’ll see that I put wood strips over top of the steel studs. You would need to use a shorter brad nails and glue to attach the trim
What will the drywall be screwed to at the bottom ?
There’s no bottom plate the drywall just screws to the two vertical studs
Do you add a door stop
No doorstop but it does get trimmed out with jams and casing. Doorstops are for doors that swing. It stops them from swinging too far
How do you trim this door the finish jamb?
We need to make a video on that as well. It gets split door jams on the side that the door comes from and on the top solid jam on the side the door closes against.
why did you add an inch on the rough opening?
That’s what the directions call for. This leaves room finish trim

I work in a lumberyard none of the framers in our area will use these. They demand set up pre assembled frames.

Actually, the directions do give you the specifics on that
Please make your videos horizontal.

All the builders in my area use these Johnson kits. We’ve been using them for 20 years on high end homes and have had no problems.
