From experience: put up osb or plywood over the entire wall and then add 1/4" drywall over that. Had my kitchen redone and the contractor went right through the wall into the pocket door. Destroyed the door and had to replace the door which took about 6 months to show up as it had to be custom made to match the rest of the house.
Those metal studs are not strong enough to support shelving or cabinets. Having something solid behind it will help because you won't need to worry about hitting those little metal studs when hanging stuff. If you sheath the wall before you add the rest of the framing you will also have your backer for drywall.
This is how I had the "mistake" fixed and have had no issues. The repairs were done by a different contractor due to insurance reasons and the contractor said it was the best idea he heard of for pocket doors.

Never knew there was 1/4” inch drywall. That’s a good idea

I want to highlight this comment because I drywalled over the metal studs and they are like noodles. There is hardly any rigidity. Wish I had done this!

Well, I can see now why my contractor wanted to talk me out of a pocket door! As it turned out, a regular door worked better in the space, but I knew he had that crafty look in his eye!!!😺

I had a pocket bathroom door, in a former house, 20 years ago. It was the 1st one, I ever had. It took some getting used to, but after a bit, I really liked it. It didn't take up valuable space in the room and worked fine, never had any issues with it

I think it would be interesting if you could tell us how all the remodeling in your old house have raised the value of it or if it even raised the value of it! Cause I remember what it looked like before and after you made those excellent changes to it! 😊 keep up the great work!

Cheap tip for people doing this solo. They sell these little inflatable bags for both construction and locksmiths for pretty darn cheap that you can slide under the door and inflate to lift the door up the tiny amount making it way easier.

just think . the average door takes up 9 SQ FT. 2 bedroom house. 2 for bedroom, 3 for closets, front back garage laundry room, 2 bath. thats 11 times 9 thats a 10 X 10 room you cant use. or a third bath.

    Dear Mr. Fixer,
I apologize for this question being off topic and selfish!!! But that's how I roll.
I got a beat up old "barn door" that's 40"x82"x1.5" T&G, with cross boards holding it together on the inside / backside. It was face mounted on the outside (swinging out) with face mounted gate hinges. A pregnant 10 year old racoon could squeeze through the gaps.
I trimmed off the rot on the edges leaving me with 36"x80".
The jamb is 10" deep and crookeder than a politician.
I wanted to move the slab to the center of the jamb cause the concrete foundation is crumbling on the outside edge allowing vermin, illegals and Democrats to possibly sneak in through the bottom.
My tiny garbage, deplorable MAGA type brain won't allow me to figure out how the holi heck I can hang this "door" :(.
Any suggestions? And pleaseeeeeee be nice. lol
