8:08 can you tell me
the most disappointing thing in this game is the lack of an Insomniac Museum
I would agree with them ending it with Rift Apart with them going to find the Lombaxes if they hadn't been teasing Ratchet finding the Lombaxes for over a decade. Because its been a plot line since Tools of Destruction in 2007 I think we need one more game to give us closure to something thats been teased and has gone nowhere for so many years.
Same it would seem cruel to not fulfill it at this point
Maybe that will happen it just might be a minute because of Insomniacs focus on marvel games
Purple Hays Yeah you said it. I don't know what they even doing with the story anymore at this point. Im gonna give it one more try after this Rift apart.
Wanting yet another R&C to play the whole "Last of his race" card yet again is certainly a take, especially since that plotline has always been bullshit as far back as Going Commando in 2004. And them going to the "Lombax dimension" or whatever is closure, even if they don't show it. The Dimensionator will just take them straight there since they have the special map. Like, what do y'all want or even expect? There's just nothing there.
Rift apart just feels like its missing a tiny bit of content. A few more planet, more enemies, different attacks, and a few more weapons would make it amazing.
True. I kinda hate the longer but less planets approach. KH3 did the same thing. While I kinda understand, that they want to show off the power of the console, it's sad that this is the sacrifice we have to make.
@@Adeyum64 that makes so much sense, especially with how hard this game tries showing off the graphics and console capabilities
I agree. It's a bit condensed for me but the game play and graphics are phenomenal
Given he was bullied by a streamer and his fanbase over it, you gotta respect how he still kept his promise to review the game
Sure is admirable. Though while I understand he’s not into reviewing anymore as soembody who’s been a fan of Bacon since his original channel I am slightly disappointed he’s practically confirmed he won’t do a video on Crash 4. I’d loved to have heard his thoughts
Who did?
@@ziadbaha1699 Xem92, he privated the vids but made no attempt to apologise or address it iirc
@@willberto6969 what did xem do? he seems like a nice guy.
@@britnibrid Basically Xem did a live stream reaction of both of Bacon's original Ratchet & Clank videos. Spent the entire time insulting Bacon and calling him names. Including things like calling him a r*pe apologist,.and a trump supporter. Him doing the livestreams sent alot of his fans over to TBP to harass him. And here's the best part, some of Xems fans (myself included) turned on him for going way overboard. And Xem then accused TBP of sending his fans to harrass Xem and astroturfing a negative response.
This was the first game I played on my PS5. I was floored with the graphics. And I'm a PC enthusiast, always have high end GPUs. This game runs super smooth, as well.
Gameplay-wise, it's fine. It's reminiscent of 6th gen platformers. 6th gen will always be my favorite console generation, so this game made me feel nostalgic.
I think making Rivet the one fighting against Emperor Nefarious makes sense story-wise.
Emperor Nefarious is her enemy and nemesis. And making her fight him gives more personal meaning to the battle.
Wanted to mention that the “bonuses” on armor aren’t actually locked to the armor set. Basically one you unlock armor with a effect on it then you can wear any other set and the effect will still apply
Im a long time follower of your old channel and the reviews on that one. Im glad you seem much more focused and doing what you like being tactical bacon prod. Keep up the work man, one of my favorite RUclipsrs.
Glad to hear your branching out. I am in my Mid 40's now and have been playing Games since I was around 5. I have played almost anything I could get my hands on. So much out there and its well worth trying something new, you never know what you might like. Have fun and I look forward to hearing what you think, even if I might think differently about it.
Happy Birthday, Mr. Bacon. Been a fan of yours for a long time now and I'm glad you're still managing to make new and passionate content, even if it's not going to be the same as the content I first fell in love with your channel because of.
I still feel like A Crack in Time and Into the Nexus were the true ending to the series. Felt like they were running out of ideas for the series afterwards.
Yeah man it's sad
That's true that's probably why they made a remake of the first game on PS4 instead of just making a brand new game entirely on ps4
@@nathanthompson6720 Well, no on that point. The remake was made as a movie tie-in and likely had nothing to do with ideas or lack thereof. Still, I feel like the stuff they've done with Rivet has only showed that they still have some fantastic ideas and I hope that Rivet continues to appear in more games.
@@BlueSparxLPs true
After nexus u only got the remake. And after a crack in time u only got spin offs of course u felt like that
Yeah rift apart is one of my favorite games of all time. Completely blown away by how polished the whole experience was.
Great video, completely in the same boat as you in regards to platformers. Loved Ratchet and Clank games pre future saga, after that felt nothing. Whilst I don’t have much fun playing platformers now Ratchet and clank will always have a place in my childhood for being the first game to immerse me in the world of gaming
18:45 I think that has to do moreso with the fact so many game franchises are never allowed to end even when an ending is planned. For some examples:
Trials and Tribulations was supposed to be the last Ace Attorney game
Halo 3 meant to close the series (technically the plan was to end with 2 but Bungie realized they couldn’t write a satisfying conclusion in the Dev time they had left)
Mega Man X, Mega Man Battle Network, and Mega Man Zero were all dragged past their planned conclusion
Kojima had been trying to end the Metal Gear series since Sons of Liberty
And probably the biggest example: Gold & Silver was supposed to be the last Pokémon Game
I just want them to give Ratchet & Clank a personality again & tell a cohesive story that doesn’t play shit safe
Yeah, I hate how this franchise slowly turned into the Marvel universe. Not to mention the character dialogue is just...Not good...
Then your in luck, go watch "Life of Pie" it has all the things you idiots keep asking for xD
@@hassanghanim3966 life of pie is pretty decent. Honestly the only thing I don’t like is the fact it supposedly takes place in the reboot universe
@@Numbuh_W. What? Do you mean Life of Pi? Is this some long running joke I'm too old to understand?
@@quesocoatl21it’s a cancel ratchet and clank kids show
Covering more games helps u reach a wider audience, but it's important to make videos over what u are interested in so u don't get burned out, thank u for making content that I enjoy greatly!
Man, I've been watching you when you were another chanel, it's good to see you doing well and thriving with this channel. 👍
A hate mob? That's absolutely terrible; no one should ever go through that, let alone for simply expressing their take on something. I'm really sorry that happened to you and those responsible should honestly feel ashamed.
This is a great review you did and yeah does feel like a greatest hits collection of Ratchet & Clank gameplay and adventures, and I am relieved that Rift Apart still has a great story.
While I am mixed to say if Rift Apart should be the final game of R&C (but do feel they do need to resolve the finding the Lombax plot) but with what you say about moving on and trying new series, I can see that since I have been doing that as new year is a new start for me.
Yo, happy birthday in advance man, thanks for the content and giving us your take on ratchet and clank I really enjoyed it and can't wait for your next topic, that being platformers or not
That’s a great idea to cover different genres. I’m looking forward to seeing your reviews on online shooters
I was excited to see your take on
Rift Apart and I'm pleasantly
surprised by the ending of the
video. Your recent content
(including this video) has been fantastic and with more passion being put into them, I'm glad you're taking the direction you feel is right for yourself. Always strive to make the content you want to make 'cause it's always a lot more fun doing so!
There's nothing wrong with moving onto greener pastures if that's what you want to do. You should always be doing what you believe is best.
And happy birthday, TBP.
You know, the advice and ideas you gave in this video is honestly great and made me rethink my views on video games and life in general. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Awesome franchise, underrated and deserved way better.
Nice finnaly keep up the good content i already know this vid is a banger
Happy birthday bro!!! And a Merry Christmas too!!!
I like that quote you put up at the start of the video
16:38 “Where we headed?”
“I think you know 😏”
*Proceeds to the 4chan dimension*
No apology needed. You review the games you want to. Your fans will stay around. The ones that leave were never really fans anyway.
Great and succinct video. As a longtime fan burnt out from the last decade of Ratchet games, Rift Apart was a perfect mix of freshness and nostalgia. To me, Rift Apart ranks third, just after Deadlocked. Up Your Arsenal will forever be my favorite. That game's mutiplayer essentially invented the moba genre. I also hope to see more, but if this does turn out to be the last narrative title, Rift Apart is a great stopping point.
One little correction, though: Magna Boots actually debuted in the very first Ratchet and Clank.
But were we jumping around on the magna boots from point to point before into the nexus? Because that's what I was referring to.
I doubt they will end this franchise here. The game apparently did pretty well and they have a lot of unused story concepts that were leaked around the time of ACIT.
There's quite a few directions they could go in that regard.
I think the game sold the most out of the franchise so I think they'll definitely make another game I'd say by 2024-2026
Now that rift apart days are over, you should def review on some of insomniacs best. Maybe sunset overdrive,. that's a masterpiece
Here's an idea
With Rivet alongside Ratchet you can do something that nowadays isn't done that much anymore
COUCH CO-OP (with of course the option to play co-op online)
Great video, overall the game looks stunning and the story seems good, but I think they are definitely going to make another one continuing the story, not sure how that will go considering how Insomniac is busy with Marvel.
Also yeah I can agree that it's best to check other types of video games out besides the usual 3D platformers because there really isn't much there especially for Playstation.
Alright before I watch the video I just want to say outside of some narrative issues I'd say it's a genuinely good and impressive game with a bit of missed potential. I'll either edit or make another comment after I'm done watching.
Edit: So I'm surprised you liked the story as much as you did because while I did enjoy it overall there's aspects that could've been fleshed out a bit more, still decent though for what it is. Also it's unfortunate about the controversy that your two videos had with some of the community; the first one especially had a lot of logical reasoning behind it at the time (of course I was still excited for the game no matter what).
In terms of gameplay it really does feel like a greatest hits while reinvigorating traversal mechanics and utilizing the PS5 in impressive ways. How the weapons feel with the dualsense is great and while some weapons are gimmicky I still feel like it was a really good selection of new and old being consistently satisfying to use (5 glove weapons is a bit much though) also the lack enemy variety during the last third is pretty noticable but I already know that's not due to laziness, 3 years of development and all that (I can't believe this was initially supposed to be a launch title before it got internally delayed).
As for the future of the series I really think they'll just tackle the lombax dimension concept head on and squeeze the dynamic between all four characters to their max before retiring the series for good (I really want playable giant kit lol) or like you said make rivet and kit permanent leads. However the franchise is called "Ratchet & Clank" so this wouldn't work outside of one standalone game or something but regardless Insomniac has their hands full with SM2, Wolverine and their new IP multiplayer game which is currently in pre-production or early production as of now so RaC will be on the back burner until 2026 earliest.
The last section about platformers and moving on to new things is totally understandable because as of now it seems like another drought of high production ones is here for a while. I agree with you about indies though; I've been supporting a lot of them via PS5/Steam especially within the last couple of years, it's also a bonus they don't cost fucking $60/$70 (not including tax) each.
So yeah in the end definitely an anticlimax when it came to the overall reception of this game, I'm pretty glad about that though btw happy 26th birthday man 🎂.
The game slapped. Loved it
25 minutes is a long time just for the word "no". Haha just messing. Love you and your videos!
This game was amazing!
20:43, i feet that same way currently about the shooters genre specifically ( FPS) . resistance, far cry, borderlands, bioshock, COD. After a while i didnt want to play any FPs games. but i guess after a while ill come back to the genre
Rivit and Kit are kind of like a younger, female ratchet and Clank, with more trama.
Same
I really enjoyed this game. My 1st platinum on the PS5
What I love about your channel is that you are trying to be objective (see: fair) while not just shitting on games (low effort clickbait-y 0 calorie content), and instead trying to find what could be enjoyable about them. Don't ever devolve into stupidity, and keep up this level of quality. Here is to years of such content, and Merry Fucking Christmas!
Into the Nexus is a ballin' game, nothing disappointing about it.
Nexus definitely wasn't bad but it was disappointing with its shockingly short length so it wasn't able to flesh out its ideas as much as it could
@@kingdomkey2262 I cannot think of how you would extend it without adding pointless planets where all you do is find coordinates for the next one. Would be fun, but nothing to add to the story. In a perfect world, sure.
@@NotOrdinaryInGames don't get me wrong, I also love into the nexus. Love the look and weapons in the game along with the gameplay but the story was like 2 to 3 hours long💀they could have expanded the story JUST a bit
Those old headlines were pretty clickbaity
13:35 Isnt it obvious that Thugs-4-Less is renamed Goons-4-Less because it's another dimension? Like Ratchet/Rivet and Clank/Kit
i and it seems like lot of others found the fight with dr nefarious harder then the final phase of the emperor fight witch i hope was intentional cause like the idea that emperor only had the illusion of being the stronger one
Multidimensional thing has been around sense the old dc and marvel comics
Side note, I still haven’t played the game yet, but I did get a ps5 finally last month but I’m going away on holidays for a few weeks after Christmas so I definitely plan to play it by then. But I can’t wait however!
21:49
One thing.
I LOVE Sly Cooper series, but I have shifted to the InFamous series (Second Son was my first taste of InFamous and I loved it)
Tbh I’m surprised Tachyon hasn’t returned. For being the reason the lombaxes left and only making a single appearance lol
Soon as she was shown artist went to work quickly to welcome her to this world😳
Good video
Bedside the main 5 that you just mentioned, I also love kingdom hearts. My favourite video game series ever! That’s the main 6 to me in my eyes.
Thank you for telling me.
I haven't gotten the chance to play Rift Apart just yet, I pretty much grew up playing the HD port of the trilogy for the PS3, then the Future series. If this turns out to be the end for R&C, sure, I'll be a bit sad, but from what I've seen in this video, I think the series had a damn good run.
I loveeeeee Rift Apart! It and God Of War Ragnarok are probably two most favorite ps5 games!
It would be accurate to say that Rivet threw the furries into a frenzy.
I like the game. It's great with the volume turned all the way down.
It's fun I'll give it that the story was kinda weak but.... the visuals of this game are crazy good and a showcase for the PS5.
At 15:01 the enemies might have felt like bullet sponges because you apparently didn't bother to use the ice and plant weapons (whatever they are called, don't remeber anymore) that literally multply the damage the enemies receive...
For me it was one of the best games I've played as of recent, thought I'd love them to maybe step back a few years in the writing department and bring back some of that classic RAC edge. Additionally big props for not making RIvet a generic gender swap and call it a day.
13:07 they are purely cosmetic any bonuses are applied just upon acquisition
I honestly wouldn't mind new protags to take the mantle if it means more adventures in the this universe. Even maybe make a spinoff where dr.nefarious and quark go on a adventure together. i feel like games series don't take advantage enough the many adventures can have with all the characters possible.
To answer the question at 11:37, i have no idea, i think it was the twisted metal copy-cat videos, wich is strange because i never played twisted metal so iduno. But i have games from most of those on my List of things to play so its something.
24:45 - 25:03 thank you 🥹
Alright I was honestly expecting for the hot take to be way hotter but I kinda semi-agree. Rift Apart would serve as a great finale. It's probably not the last game they'll ever make but if it were to end here it'd be a pretty good ending.
I agree but due to how well the franchise is doing I doubt it ends here, I see maybe one- two more instalments maybe. I feel like a classic retro Ratchet Game with the old art style from the trilogy would be a great game in bringing back older fans who have experienced burn out from the future series
I know the struggle of being into one genre for so long, you grow bored of it. I feel like I can't enjoy 2D platformers as much as I used to, so much so I thought I was just outgrowing gaming in general. I literally bought Rayman Legends at Target all excited, but then I get home and to this day haven't even taken it out of its packaging. But then I got back into retro FPS games as well as tried Stardew Valley and realized I wasn't outgrowing gaming at all. I was suddenly doing ten hour gaming sessions like I was a kid again. I guess I just needed a break from my comfort genre to try out other things, as life without variety is just meaningless.
Been watching since you had just a few hundred subs. Glad to see your account going up. The quality of your videos is amazing. You're one of the few RUclipsrs that I actually look forward to watching their new video
I bought a PS5 specifically for Rift Apart and I don’t regret it. Although it kinda felt lacking in personality, I don’t think the style of the ps2 trilogy can ever be beaten
They should've just made a new Sunset Overdrive game honestly.
21:50 shhhh Miharu might be watching
Back when it came out, I didn't own a PS5
Last year in April I bought a PS5 to play Jedi Survivor
I was planning on buying Rift Apart but then it came out on PS+ for free
I think if I had paid full price for the game, I wouldn't have enjoyed it as much as I did
I'm not sure the current Insomniac could actually do much more, story wise, with R&C and I say that as a big fan of the series who would like more, Rivet or Ratchet as the main character. What I would be open to is budget spinoff games to see if there's a different game that could be enjoyable. Quark in a stealth shooter? Robot army stuff that's more like dynasty warrior? Gadgetron factory management sim? Maybe a twisted version of stardew valley cause I've wanted a space farming sim and it could be run by some minor characters? Heck, even a bigger game along the lines of mass effect with Sasha Phyronix could be decent.
Maybe its just me but when you say 'here's an entire universe', so long as they keep the spirit of the original I'd at least be interested.
So basically a passive admission that controversy and negativity and clickbait drives clicks on RUclips. Hence why channels like this write headlines like “will it suck?”
Hope you have a good birthday and I really enjoy your content my only complaint is that they don’t come out often enough but quality takes time
Um Ragnarok was on PS4 Yknow.
And I wanted it on PS5
I'm just glad the franchise didn't finished up with the reboot
I wouldn't mind Rivet going to help ratchet at different stages of his life I think R&C1 Surfer bad boy Ratchet interacting with Rivet would lead to some interesting conversations, and strengthen her bond with kit to see how she would be without each other. Rivet can also mess with R&CGC maybe accidentally killing Angela Cross by bumping into her causing her to fall of an edge and having to dress like her and fight Ratchet to keep that timeline stable while giving a reason for the retcon in game.
I disagree about the weapon selection. It should have been more gimmicy. Allong with being a platformer shooter hybred, unusual weapons are what Ratchet and Clank is known for.
I like your opinion.
Sonic Eruptor, Groovitron, Nightmare Box, etc etc.
So many of those weapons of the previous games had some sort of gimmick and I liked it.
In Rift Apart, the weapons feel kinda samey (except maybe Topiary Sprinkler and Drillhound, RYNO does not count).
Rift Apart doesn't even have the Transformer type gun that is in (almost) every game like Winteriser and Sheepinator.
Your thoughts on this game perfectly describes how I feel about the sonic the hedgehog franchise as a hole. It's the same way I feel about SpongeBob that is to say I'm still a fan of it but I'm somewhat indifferent.
This game came out on my birthday so I had to buy a ps5 of eBay so I could play it worth every penny
I'm sure 1000 more people have let you know in the comments but collecting armour pieces is what gains you armour benefits, it's not wearing them, it's kinda like how in the first spiderman game you could use a suit with any suit power instead of the one it came with. Except in rift apart you don't choose the armour effect, you're just given it upon collecting the amrour piece that holds the attribute
I still think, although colored somewhat by nostalgia, that the gameplay seen in R&C and Rift Apart, specifically the platformer × rpg-shooter gameplay, is really tight and there are no other games that have come close to filling this niche. It's just a really enjoyable and chill type of shoot-em-up high-octane movement gameplay that you cannot get from first-person shooters, nor from platformers like Mario etc. The closest you'll get is games like the Borderlands series, that while yes, it has the weapons, it isn't even close in terms of character movement and platforming.
TL;DR: Ratchet & Clank has uniquely satisfying gameplay that no other games come close to achieving.
i never play a Ratchet And Clank in my childhood, obviously i heard about it but i was never interesting to play it,
I only buy this one because is was one of the rare game release only on PS5 and for the motion control,
So i play it start to finish all trophy onlock and honestly the game is just a little bit to short but still a very good game.
I do find it intersting one just stops having an interst/passion for an entire game genre. Not saying it’s wrong or can’t happen just nothing I’ve personally experienced or seen before
I like ratchet and clank but never played the future trilogy nor rift apart
yo, big vid
I used to shrug off criticism of stuff I liked but with R&C it's been the first where I've come to accept, I kinda agreed with your other vids about it. And if you ask me, I rather it go out on a positive note instead of being dragged out too long and dying of overexposure
23:45 what of Nintendo?
I am not you, but I am also not the person you described. Yes, I love Jakratchetspyroslycrash.......... but I do in fact love other games too. So..... yeah, #NotAllJakratchetspyroslycrashFans
As much as I love ratchet and clank this game felt more of the same storyline wise. The main overarching story about the lombaxes doesn’t end or expand much at all makes me feel like the story will never conclude or makes me feel less enthusiastic to wait years until the next one to see if the storyline expands.
Short answer: no, it does not. It's a cool game.
Is it bad no but it's no where near my favorite.
Playing games in genres outside your previous interests helps you appreciate your previous interests more. If you just grind on one type of game, you'll get idiotic posts like the Dr. Disrespect clip from a few days ago. Branching out is a good thing to let you discover new things while letting your old passions marinate and rest.
I love the game my main and only real problem with Rift Apart was that Ratchet was still not Ratchet personality wise he still had Clanks personality and while it wasn't as obvious as in Ratchet and Clank PS4 since Ratchet and Clank were apart for most of the story it was still pretty obvious to me who loves and still plays the original games on a regular basis personally I hope they just let Ratchet and Clank rest and start a spin off series following Rivet and Kit
I don't get why people give you shit about your old channel. Your new channel is way more successful for you so now your videos are getting the attention they deserve.
As for Rift Apart, I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous games in the series but that may have more to do with me being older now and having an increased interest in other games. I'm glad that 3D platformers are still being made as I don't want them to completely die off, but the more of them I play the more I realize how similar they all are. So maybe the genre as a whole is getting stale at this point.
I didn't even know he had an old channel
I don't think he wanted anyone to know. The content on his old channel was similar to this only with more jokes and comedy skits. I actually prefer his new format better.
Ok
@@BrettDarien that's pretty cool, at least he knows what he wants to do with this channel
Honestly I still have good feelings for the series but mostly for the ps2 first four games, especially after discovering speedrunning community. If they want to do another game fine, but do it for at least four or five years and really rethink everything up to this point.
So how did Dr Nefarious impersonate Emporer Nefarious? Dr is purple-green and Emporer is white-orange. They also don't sound a like (they don't share the same VA) and Emporer is way taller and more buff. It's not just the enemies you fight in the game that were fooled as Rivit says that Dr looks and sounds a lot like Emporer when really they don't have anything in commen extrensicly aside from their gender.
What's the game at 22:18 anyone??????
no more heroes
I’m perfectly onboard with you dropping PlayStation Platformers altogether… with a caveat. I really think you should review Crash 4 as a means of completely closing the book on this, as you KNOW people are going to needle you about it until you do after your confession about owning the game since release yet having never played it once.
Obviously it’s your channel, so feel free to ignore my suggestion here. But I have a feeling this will be an itch in the back of your brain until you do.
They can needle if they want, but like I said in the video, you can't buy passion. I have zero interest in the franchise, so I have zero intention of covering it.
@@TBP As I said, ultimately your channel. I’d at least suggest actually playing it at least once though, even if you never intend to cover it, if for no other reason as to justify the $60 you spent on it :P
Not even beat it once, just “put it into your PS5 once and play a level or two”.
