Periodically in the series, they mention spiral energy and drills.

@@johnmaynes7142 I can see why. Uzumaki clan is remembered for their seal and techniques that follow swirl patterns. But I didn't guess Naruto because the spiral focus was small compared to Gurren Lagann.

Am I the only one who thought Junji Ito when Paul said "spiral"?
The second thing that came to mind was Naruto, but it's not.
Chef Paul when he cooks reminds me of Josh with his chaotic energy. Makes me laugh when he talks to himself, though lol. All his stuff looks really good.

The thing I love about these videos is that you can really see chef pk's experience,you can really see how this dude changes so much spontaneously and still makes it as good as or even better than what he planned.

My man Champ's bento was way more appealing visually, but the non-traditional style of Paul's lunch was more appealing in terms of flavor profile for me. That meat dish is a favorite of mine. I generally make something similar and I attest to it being phenomenal.
I really hope this takes off, fun series so far!

love this series so much, keep doing shokugekis. seeing you rushing with adrenaline trying your hardest is super fun.
and i love the anime edits too but just a suggestion; for example, the part with eren's mom, or uzui, i think it's better to only add the sounds without showing where it's from, (same as you did with the water breathing technique) because most people already recognize the scene / voice from the audio, and if they don't, they probably won't recognize the anime anyway so showing the scene wouldn't add much for them. but that's just my two cents. i love everything you make no matter how you do it.

The constantly ticking down timer made this so intense. You also did a really nice job editing the video, chef! It's approaching your level of delicious cooking

As soon as you said spiral I knew it was going to be Gurren Lagaan. I recently started a rewatch of it to introduce my child, so it's fresh in my head. Honestly though, the entree should have been pork with some little nori sunglasses, but that would have been a little too obvious of a character reference.

Great video as always, just wish that alarm sound wouldn't have gone off so much, I was watching this at work and multitasking and it startled me every time. (good thing I'm doing night audit all this week at my hotel so no one can see me jump... and so that I can watch videos while working)
btw, got your cook books in the mail a couple days ago, I'm supposed to move June 1st (assuming nothing else goes wrong) so first thing I plan on doing once I have a functional kitchen again is make some of those recipes to celebrate. and then probably every monday, (which is my 1 day off of work) I'll probably make 1 new recipe from the book until I've been able to taste first hand which are my favorites and tweak them to my taste. (as well as start going through all the videos I've bookmarked)

Is the spiral theme from Gurren Lagann? One of my faves
Spiral theme really has me believing in the Chefpk that believes in me.
I want to try making something like that beef and rice spiral, but with slices of a fried hamburger patty, plenty of thickened gravy and a lingonberry jam spiral for sweet acidity. It would be like Swedish meatballs - bento ninja edition. Maybe using green beans for the bottom layer, too, just to soak up any delicious gravy that seeps through everything else.

Had I seen this when it was published I'd have said the spiral theme would have been from Uzumaki... lol
Since everyone is going for Guren Lagan (I mean ... obviously ... but still) I'll just throw "Uzumaki" in the mix ... this Yunji Ito (sp?) manga will only be broadcasted soonish but it technically IS an anime (and a disturbing one I'd wager given the source content).
After watching both Videos I think Champ won this battle. That being said, It all looks absolutely Delicious!
Hey Chef, what brand is that portable stove you used? I've been looking to get one myself that I know can be used indoors in case my power goes out since my stove is an electric one and if the power goes out I can't cook..unless I wanna build a fire pit outside and if it's raining that ain't gonna happen. Also I'm gonna guess the spiral is from Naruto..it's a pretty stand out thing in the series, it's on his outfit, it's on the back of the flak vest the chunin and jonin wear, it's part of the leaf symbol on the Konohagakure headband..pretty much everywhere..if not that then Gurren Lagaan where the Spiral is part of the whole dang plot.

Funny enough, for me it's direct comparison with bento battle in Souma, Chef Ryosuke made a great dish, but yours was better as a bento.

Now thinking about it I kinda wonder how it would have looked like if people actually didnt finish their dish in time during a shokugeki.
Given how high stakes some shokugeki were I wouldn't be surprised if some students self-destructed during the process.
