      I’m Shattered, took it fishing today first time, using a 3inch paddle tail. 2nd cast caught my first ever Fish on a Plastic a 55cm Flatty. ( Thanks for all the tips)
      The Fkn tip snapped 3 inches right in front of the top guide.
      Just spent 4 weeks build this rod 😢😭😭😭😩🥺

    Love your show. How ever I am a bait and live bate fishing man. Every person talk about weight for the hook, but no one talks about the hook size to the lure size . can you tell me if you have a 4" plastic lure that you should use a 4/0 hook.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад

      Hi Anthony, generally speak yes a 3 inch plastic will be a 3-0, a 4 inch plastic a 4-0 and so on. It doesn't always work that way but its pretty close. We have some workshop in our members area specifically on that sort of stuff

    Hi Alan, I want to try and catch some Snapper and Jewfish , land based in NEWCASTLE, NSW. I've had a few locals suggesting 9-10ft rods and 5000 reels. This seems a bit excessive. I want to fish around the harbour and breakwall. What would you suggest? Thanks Evan

    @yiqnni9789 Год назад +1

    Hey Alan, could you do a video testing out the difference between a cheaper setup of monofilament line and a more expensive setup using high quality braid and fluoro? I think it would be really interesting to see the difference between the two. Anyway, great video, keep it up

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад +2

      Thanks !! Yeah were actually doing some stuff at the moment cheap vs expensive setups. Including rods and line. Have had some delays due to this terrible weather so hopefully we can get back out and finish of the content and testing soon

    Hey Alan, Do you reckon the Shimano zodias 268ML would do the trick mostly for kayak fishing and some landbased? Or should I step up in height to the 270L?

    • @fishingmad

      Yep 100% its a great choice I had one for a while and really liked it. Great length for the yak too.

    Hi Allan I just wanted to ask what's a great reel to put on the savage gear lrf ccs 2-4 kg rod I finally found one. I caught my biggest flathead on that rod then I lost it so been looking for about 5 years I rate that rod. I'm not sure to either put a luvias 2500 on it the 155g one thanks

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Год назад +1

      Yeah those LRF rods are so light and thin so you will want something super light in weight. Luvias is a great option, Most other decent 2500 reels on the market weigh 180+ grams so thats prob your best bet. could also consider a 21 REVELRY FC MQ 2000S which weighs 165 grams and is a bit cheaper.

    • @stevejones9636
      @stevejones9636 Год назад

      @fishingmad do you still use your lrf rod? Thanks again not sure which one I will choose to put on it

    Hi Alan,
    Could you please tell me what rod and reel you are using or recommend.
    Thank you.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  8 месяцев назад +1

      You really need a fast action spin rod around 7 foot in length with a weight class of 3-6kg or 2-5kg paired with a 2500 or 3000 size reel. So many option depending on your budget. Popular choices are things like the shimano zodias and vanford combos, daiwa TD Black combos and there are some awesome hiugh end options like G Loomis NRX. We do have a members area which has a section called gear guides which helps with gear choices that might be worth looking at.

    I didn’t know you should use 3-6 kg rods for snapper?!

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  7 месяцев назад

      Yes, if you target them with soft plastics a fast action 2-5kg or 3-6kg rod is best you can go heavier if fishing offshore. If fishing with bait then you would go soft tip usually around 4-8kg
