Glad to hear this. I love 201s ... used to have two plus a revox 3500 (similar). Sold all long ago when I closed my studio. Now, I think I'll be buying V7X. According to another RUclipsr the v7x frequency response is similar to the m88 frequency response, also a great mic (though I usually use that on floor, it also works fine on snare). The V7X seems like an unbeatable value for snare/toms!
something ain't right about that 441... they're not that dark unless damaged or unless the brilliance switch is in the wrong position. And you omitted the beyerdynamic 201... which rules.
AKG C451 is beautiful. But the SM57 is great as well!
With Hi-Hat
1:17 - Shure SM57
1:23 - Shure Beta 57A
1:27 - AKG D40
1:32 - Sennheiser e604
1:37 - Sennheiser e904
1:42 - sE Electronics V7 X
1:47 - Sennheiser BF541
1:51 - AKG C451
57 is still the best. And also great for guitar cab. And it can double as a hammer too.
Thanks. Each of those should be manageable. I believe the position of the mic is far more important, do you have a video comparing this as well?
I'd be wanting to buy an Beyer M201, but after buying the sE V7X I have settled. Beefy and open, and with a very pleasant (and moderate) hi-hat spill.

I have to say the V7X keeps nailing it, for me. And the off axis rejection is very good. Great mic for the price. I think i'll grab a few.
I literally said out loud, "WOW, I like that V7x!" I remember looking at them a few years back and thinking about it.
them SM57's it's an old soldier you can't deny them,
Well, I guess I now know why the SM57 is the go to for snare lol. Only one I liked as much was the AKG 451
I thought the V7X was fairly close to it
The mic placement has a big influence on the sound, so only the last comparison was relatively fair.
Great comparison
SM57 and AKG D40 are the best ones.
my 1st choice for snare is SHURE BETA 56a
I'd go with the BF541, it was the least exciting but was the one that had the best isolation from the hihat. A little eq and it's a winner in the mix.
AKG D40
beta 57a takes the cake for me
V7 x
D40
Todos 👍
Compare a bleed
57
Beta 57 has a lot of low end and takes away that ringing harmonic which is not good in that case.

The most boring mic is the SM57.
