    There never was a star quite like Shirley Temple. Adored by adults and children alike, at four she already led at the Box Office -- ahead of Gable and Cooper.
    Her films saved a movie studio from bankruptcy, and a President credited her with raising the morale of Depression-weary Americans. Her earliest movies gave a foretaste of her talents and soon would become the songs and dances that helped make those movies immortal. Here she is at her heart-stirring best in films like Little Miss Marker, Now and Forever, Bright Eyes, The Little Colonel, Poor Little Rich Girl, Stowaway, The Little Princess, and The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer.
    Also appearing: actors Caesar Romero, Alice Faye and Gloria Stuart, and former child actors Jane Withers, Darryl Hickman, Dick "Dickie" Moore, Marcia Mae Jones, and stand-in Marilyn Granas. Our host is an entertainment legend in his own right -- Tommy Tune.

    Just look at those cute little chubby toddler legs. Shirley had all of us falling in love with her no matter what age we were. I watched her movies as a child and again as a mother watching with my children in the 1970's and in the 1990's. No matter what year it was or ever will be, I shall always have the desire to watch this "Little Darling" perform. Now I just have to wait for my grand-daughter to enjoy her as much as my daughters and I always have. Shirley Temple Black may have never watched herself in any of her movies but she certainly gave the rest of us the "best of herself". May she Rest In Peace among the Arms of God.

    I never watched any of her movies till I found them on RUclips a couple of years ago, but Shirley's star power does not fade - I've shown her to a couple of kids and they too were knocked out by her. Sure, she was just acting, but she was real and more than real, too, and she can't be reproduced.

  • @loulou3472

    I wanted her to live forever...
    She was the International Darling of Pictures. Just as precious to Australian's who were still recovering from the gut wrenching first world war when Australia marched off in July 1914 to Nov 1918 to what will always be know as the all out slaughter.
    Then we were off again to Europe to serve and fight for freedom in 1939 start of 2nd world war.
    This little girl bought some solace to such dark days of global wars, depression and rationing which lasted on into the fifties.
    I was born in far more sympathetic days of 1962 and Shirley Temple was the smile on my face on weekends when they played her movies on Telly. I just adored her and did so my whole life.
    I had a little cry when she died 😥

    The greatest child star ever. A few years back, Candace Cameron Bure did a TV special listing the top 100 child stars of all time. Shirley was not only completely snubbed, but the number one child star was that youngest cartoon child from The Simpsons. Talk about a joke. I was pissed!

      She represented the worst in Hollywood. Not saying she was a bad actress but the men in those film molested and exploited her. And Hollywood hasn’t changed.

      Shmide Conserve, the only man she stated who tried to molest her was MGM director Arthur Freed. Even if she was molested as you claim, how would that mean that she represented the worst in Hollywood? She would be the victim in that situation, the perpetrators would be the only ones to blame.

      @fay-amieaspen6046 6 лет назад +5

      Frozen Ice Queen Elsa. Please watch the films of Shirley Temple again. Or clips on RUclips showing you the facts! They are not pure wholesome films, they have a lot of very dodgy, adult titillating sexual content, blatant child exploitation, she was made into a very sexual precocious child, a complete corruption of her genuine innocence beauty and talent!
      Look at her history. She started off in The Baby Burlesk short films, playing a working girl, stating she's too expensive for hire?! Being cooked alive by black tribal cannibals in another, (let's not even go there with the blatant racism there and inappropriateness) given provocative show names too.
      If you aren't alarmed by that, how about other certain scenes from certain films? She was made to be very suggestive, especially in her far too short dresses, especially those that went up just that extra bit higher at the back to titillate, by glimpses of her buttocks and cute frilly panties! This was done deliberately!
      Three films stand out regularly for comments. Poor Little Rich Girl, sitting on the lap of the man portraying her Father and singing let me marry you and let me be your wife, is one, being lured away with promises of candy, just taken away by strangers in several of the films she was in, Poor Little Rich Girl especially, in several films she's seen messing about with her male co stars ties and sitting on them. Curly Top is especially bad for comments on it. And Captain January, during the Codfish Ball dance number, she gets too close to the crotch level of her male co-star who has his hand on her head too for some reason, pushing her height down or an act of control who knows? Some people also disagree with the handling physically of Shirley in the Good Ship Lollipop song, possibly her most famous song and scene ever. Of course, many people male and female treated her very well and with a lot of respect and possibly wouldn't have realised how suggestive some of the roles, scenes, outfits and songs were.
      But the proverbial buck always stops with the director. So ask yourself, what were these filthy minded men thinking about when they made Shirley do these things and act, dress, perform, pose and sing as they made her in those ways ?!

    • @ToniHunterOne
      @ToniHunterOne 6 лет назад

      God damn it! Please stop tainting all the posts and videos of Sirley Temple. I think you and others like you have very UGLY minds. Please keep your poisons to yourself. Just like most of the other ugly minded people that I've had the despleasure of reading their ugly comments on other videos; your channel is completely blank. Why? Are you ashamed? What are you hoping to accomplish with your "revelations"?

    • @ginacable5376
      @ginacable5376 6 лет назад +1

      ToniHunterOne well said! I think they dressed her in short stuff to make her look even younger not to titillate. I was born in the fifties and our dresses were short like that. People nowadays have filthy minds iv been watching these films for years and never seen anything wrong in them. Her mother was always with her anyway always.

      They actually haven't spoken much about her dancing. This doc seems to be focusing mor on how she was treated and raised on set. Most of the interviewees seem to be other child actors that new her. Maybe it's just the angle they are going for. Bo Jangles was a great dancer and I understand they really liked each other.

    Cute she was, just realized all the inappropriate scenes put in her films, sitting on grown men’s laps, kissing grown men on the lips, bouncing on their laps with dresses on, stroking men’s faces in sensual fashions, etc.
    All disgusting. Shirley temple, was violated by the very actors she used to perform with, and it’s a sad thing.

    My favorite shows as a kid were old black & whites, any kind of nature and animal show and most definitely ANY shirley Temple movie. To this day I still hate cartoons and will never miss a Shirley Temple movie!! WOW! All that big talent in that teeny tiny body! An old soul for sure! 💖🤩💖

      Shirley always said "That Hagen Girl" was a terrible movie but that President Regan was a great kisser! And then she'd laugh. She always had such a great down to earth disposition and wonderful sense of humor

    For everyone that thinks Shirley's parents were so great, they spent all of the money she earned as a child star. Shirley received a total of $18,000.00 when she married at age 17. She was astonished and very disappointed but since she loved them, she did not prosecute and forgave them.

      @@raea3588 I thought the number was 18,000 but someone stated a different number in the comments so I could be off on that number. However, the rest of what I stated was in HER AUTOBIOGRAPHY. She received a ring, the title to her playhouse in her parents' backyard and a very minimal amount of cash.

    Shirley Temple's the Little Princess dress has been lost by UPS, please contact them to get them to investigate more deeply and get the dress back to it's rightful owner. Also they lost the aviator hats from Bright Eyes! 4 other outfits were lost, but finally given back to the owner... Help spread the news for people to watch for this dress and hat in antique shops, etc, especially in florida and missourri. Thanks
