This is one of if not the very best "how to" video's I've seen. No BS, no loud music, no hemming or hawing around just straightforward, clean and easy to understand instructions. I love my GP100 this video will help me keep in in mint condition.
I've seen several disassemble/reassemble videos for this particular revolver, and yours is by FAR the clearest and most succinct. Not a bunch if wasted, bloviation. Just the facts with an excellent explanation. Cudos!
You make it look easy. I just wanted to see how mine looked disassembled. It is so much more solidly engineered than a comparable S&W. I am glad I picked the GP 100.
This video is superb. Every step in the process is perfectly explained. This is how gun assembly/disassembly videos should be. Straight to do point and no waste of time talking about unnecessary things.
A month ago I went 4 wheeling with my father-in-law in central Idaho. I had my GP100 in a hip holster and it got filthy. There was so much dust that my weapon was covered in it. I found your video after being too intimidated to disassemble it to clean it all out. Your video was so clear and made it seem so easy that I tore down the revolver and cleaned its guts out and put it back together in an hour. Looks and sounds brand new. Thank you so much for the great video!
What a clever design. Great video, thank you. I've got one in the mail and someone mentioned that it wasn't that hard to break down, but I didn't believe it.
Great video. Just took mine apart to give it a good cleaning. My GP100 has the grips with the screw in the bottom, and I didnt see a disassembly pin in the handle. I used a small finishing nail to do the same job and it worked.
Excellent job on the video. By the way, old broken (small) drill bits make excellent disassembly pins to store inside the factory grips...These do tend to get misplaced.
Wow! I just bought my GP100 today, great gun I have the rubber grips installed and I was wondering what this pin in the box was, now I know it's a tool. Thanks for the tear down info great job! You've gained a subscriber
Great video, just bought a match champion and wanted to lube it up. It comes apart the same with the exception of one step, there are two shims on the hammer, careful when taking it out that you don't drop the parts.
This was a great video. I think that I have the tightest trigger lock detent ever made. I wound up having to use a drift and a mallet to tap the detent free. Everything came apart as shown, but getting the trigger group back in was a chore, and got its chunk of flesh from my thumb. This was all due to the detent. All back together and appears to function properly.
@@therightshooter it’s a new handgun, and that was the first time taking it apart. I did put a little grease on the detent but still had to tap the trigger guard with a mallet to get the last few millimeters of gap to close up.
@@therightshooter I finally found out why the trigger assembly was so difficult to remove the first time. It turns out that the trigger return spring was fairly well rusted. I popped the pin out, cleaned the return spring channel THOROUGHLY, dropped a little oil into the action, and like magic, it works like it’s supposed to work.
I just did a partial disassembly. I couldn't get the trigger to detach from the frame, no matter how hard I tried. I ended up reassembling it, and found my trigger was a lot smoother for some reason. The double action was so stiff, I couldn't pull the trigger accurately, and I'd need to pull so hard, that the trigger would SNAP into firing position about halfway through the trigger pull. After pulling it apart and putting it back together again. I found it much smoother for some reason.
great vid. no loud music. not a bunch of talking about this or that that has nothing to do with what vid is about or for thank you. maybe you can tell me if Novak front sight on wiley clapped can come out from either side or needs to be remove a curtain way. changed out rear sight no problem, just don't want to screw up front sight if it needs to be removed one way and go back in that way. can't seem to find info about this any where. thanks
Those take down pins are easily lost. If you are a reloader you can simply grab a decapping pin for a sizing die and you are set. Its not uncommon to bend these pins if decapping military brass so if you do bend one, save it for use in pistol disassembly. You don't have to be a reloader to call a die maker and order a bag of pins. They are cheap.
Thanks. That was a lot easier than I anticipated... Until I got to depressing the pin to remove the trigger assembly. I have the extra slot and ended up using a screwdriver to push the pin in.
Very cool design. It seems to be a much better and simpler design than a Colt or S&W. I want to buy all 3 brands just to take them all apart and put them back together.
The trigger assembly isn't fully connecting on mine & after several shots I have to tap it back in with a small polymer hammer. Any idea on what might be causing this?
Opposite of the transfer bar is the pawl. It comes out just as easily except it's held under tension by the pawl plunger and spring. If the pawl falls out the plunger and spring fly out. Very difficult to find.... just a heads up.
How easy is it to remove the Barrel from the frame. I was thinking about getting one of the new 8 shot 357 Ruger Redhawk. My only gripe is I do not like the barrel length and was planning on changing it out to a 5 in. How easy would this be to do?
The following question has already been asked without an answer. I ask again, hoping to get an answer. *Do you have do all this to remove the cylinder or is there a shortcut to removing the cylinder?*
+TheRightShooter I just bought it brand new. after I took the hammer out I pushed the pin back where the handle is and pulled the trigger assembly out and out fell two really really thin small circle washers. but I really dont see anywhere they could go
+Lineman2044 I hate to say this, but without pictures I can't tell what you're dealing with. I'd really like to help, but I can't... My GP100 is an early model, and they might have changed things recently. Call Sturm, Ruger & Co., I've heard they have really good customer support.
+TheRightShooter man I was just lookin through the manual and turns out mines a match champion and it comes with hammer shims. so I guess after I pulled the hammer out and then I pulled the trigger out the shims fell out through the bottom. so it's all good. but what would the hammer shims be good for?
+Lineman2044 It's supposed to make the revolver smoother. I don't know if it makes a difference, but personally I think it's just a marketing gimmick. I'm glad you were able to get things resolved. Happy shooting!
I did all of this and now my hammer won’t go all the way back and cycle ? What do u think I did wrong ? Transfer bar is sliding up and down , the hammer strut and mainsprings feet are going forward , I’m lost 😠
Perfect. No lengthy intro, no "like and subscribe" plug, no fluff. Just a solid, informative video. Thank you.

I'm buying one next week. Thanks to this Excellent video I am ready to go. Thanks!
This is the BEST take down video for the GP100.Thank you very much for posting it

I am a new GP100 owner, you did a great job on the take down, very easy to follow, good job
Thank you very much!
agreed!
Just paid for a GP100 and waiting for it to come in. I've read that disassembly was simple. This has helped a ton. Thank you.
鲁格的一体框架不错,看着结实!
2024 and I just came across your video. Good job explaining and showing close-ups. Thanks.
I just bought a GP100, and this video has shown me everything I needed to know for proper cleaning, thank you so very much!
What a clever design. Great video, thank you. I've got one in the mail and someone mentioned that it wasn't that hard to break down, but I didn't believe it.
Excellent video! Goes to show how robust the GP100 really is. Thanks!

Thanks for posting this I was wondering if mine would have the disassembly pin.
good clear explanation. Most of these videos are over-produced with blaring music etc. . Thanks for NOT doing that.
The perfect disassembly video. Clear, concise, nothing extra added. Thank you.
Great job on the video. Just picked up my first 357 GP100. Appreciated you not talking us to death and giving us your bio. Thanks for the info.
This video is professionally done straight shooter. No unnecessary wasting time small talk about the weather etc.
That was a very good video. Well done!
Just added a .357 Ruger GP100 to my collection, thank you for a very informative video.
Good Presentation!
Well Explained Simply without Technical Jargon
Visible Technique on Disassembly & Assembly
EXCELLENT
Well Done Sir!
Have had and shot my GP100 6" for 6 months. What a gun. Rugged, classy and beautiful. Im in looooooove.
Thank you for the video. That was a lot easier than I thought. Much less complicated than a S&W revolver.
Thanks for taking the time to show us how it's done. It's obvious you have field stripped yours many times.
I wasted a lot of time watching other videos... I should have watched this one first. Great concise, clear, be simple video.
The right shooter is also a straight shooter. Quick and to the point. I like it.
I've done hundreds of Vaqueros, this is my first GP and you explained it very straightforward! Thanks!
THIS... Is how ALL videos should be. Archived for future reference. Thank You!
Great video - just what I needed to take down my recently acquired GP100.
Just watched your video and disassembled my new GP 100 for the first time. Piece of cake thanks to your video. Cheers.
Mate!!! That was short n sweet n truly simplified.
Very informative. Would not have been able to take this thing apart without the video.
Excellent job on the video. By the way, old broken (small) drill bits make excellent disassembly pins to store inside the factory grips...These do tend to get misplaced.
Great video! No bs, just straightforward info. Thank you.
I just picked up a Ruger GP100 Match Champion and this video is great on how to take it apart for cleaning. Thanks!
You have good instruction qualities. I will use your vid for future cleaning. Thx.
Thank you, sir! I do teach (self defense) for a living, so in my how-to videos I try to get right to the point.
great video, bought a used ruger from a friend. Took apart and cleaned. Thanks to your video,it was easy.
Easy and straight to the point. Good video!
I agree with all the other reviewers. Very helpful thanks!
A huge thanks for posting this helpful video. After watching your video, I deep cleaned my GP-100.

Spot on buddy. Just took mine down for the first time. enjoyed it. Thanks.
Thanks for the great instructions. Greetings from Austria👋🏻
I am getting the sense that this may be one of the easiest DA/SA revolvers to detail clean. Pretty handy if you ever shoot the Holy Black.😊
Great video, just bought a match champion and wanted to lube it up. It comes apart the same with the exception of one step, there are two shims on the hammer, careful when taking it out that you don't drop the parts.
Just picked up my first GP100. Great video!
I love Ruger DA revolvers. So much easier to disassemble vs S&W side plates. Ruger is so much stronger too.
Great block of instructions. I used your vid to disassemble my gp100 Thx.
The 686 is way prettier than the gp100.
+Christ IsLord the match champion is pretty sexy imo
Now that's a good video on RUclips no bull shit talking just right to the point with great explaination assume thanks for your video on how to
This is a very helpful video. Thanks for taking the time to make it.

Ouch! Maybe try oiling it a little? Glad it worked out though!

Love my GP100 22LR 10 round cylinder with a 5.5 inch semi-lug barrel.
Excellent video; thank you for taking the time to make and post it.
Awesome video doesn't get any clearer than that thank you
Awesome buddy one if the best videos straight to it no messing around

Great job
Can you take the barrel off by unscrewing it? the reason I ask is because I seen a gp100 for sale on Ebay.com
