Absolute Inspiration mate. Just got my first 1979 Viscount and looking for to my little Reno journey. Fingers crossed it turns out as beautiful at yours 😂
Hi Dan, what a beautiful van. I am currently renovating a 70's Viscount and love your ceiling. I was wondering how the shiplap is ceiled to the ceiling and does it contour to the roof curve? I really want to do a similar job as yours. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Hey Wayne, thanks mate. Yes, the shiplap curves pretty easily. Go to Bunnings and pick a length up. You will see how much flex it’s got. I just used 16 gauge brads to fix it to the meranti battens
I know an aircon can be pricey for vans, and them evaporative ones are 💩but we brought a portable aircon unit for fraction of the cost, we made a cut out in our van for the unit airflow tube and brought vent hole 6inch vent hood cover cap off ebay. All portable aircon exhaust tubes are 6inchs in size. when it's not in use to cover your airflow hole on the outside of the van. You wouldn't even know. You can choose a cover cap with mosquito netting or without. We made some reno adjustments to hide tubing and make box look presentable. The unit also came with a clear finger width pvc tube for the water outlet about 1m long, we feed that tube to under kitchen bench where we have a 10L container for the water catch. We just empty it once in 24hrs or as need to. We also have a remote with it. Best decision we made. Total cost was about $300. ❤ Love your renovation by the way. Check out "High Ridge Handyman" on YT, titled "Portable aircon installation Easy 1,2,3" video. That's what I followed back then. Of course I've upgraded by then by you'll get the idea.
Great job on the reno, wondering if you have an update on how the backsplash is holding up now it has been 2 years? I am looking to do the same in our 22ft viscount for the kitchen
Hey bro, Love the production quality for a small channel! What a natural. I am also starting to make carpentry related videos with much less production quality haha. Keep it up
Nicest caravan Reno I’ve seen! That grey/green combined with the rattan and warm oak is stunning. Do you guys have a design background? I just found your channel and I’ll be watching every video right now 😂 (following from Sydney)
Hey Rebecca. Thank you! No, zero design experience, but I do really enjoy it. I'm just about to do a bunch of videos on a home I'm renovation so stay tuned for those! 😁
Nice build mate! Hey one question : how's the skylight long term now it's been a year? Because I was thinking about it but I'm worried about the heat through the window into the van turning it into a sauna in summer
Richard Tobias Did you build the kitchen bench tops or had them custom made. If you put them together yourself did use the 1200 x 600 x 17 mm Tasmanian Oak from Bunnings. Great build. !!
I removed a cupboard from that section. Some of the old caravans from what I've read use the cupboards as structural support so I figured I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus it creates a little more separation from the bed which I don't mind.
Looks great. I’ve got a viscount ambassador that I am just embarking on converting to a mobile office. My ceiling extends beyond the overhead cupboards running the length of the van. Not sure how I can replace the ceiling without removing the cupboards. Did you encounter this problem? Cheers Mel
Thanks Dan. Yeah, I’m going to have a crack at running the boards up to the overhead cupboards. I think I should be able to get it pretty neat. Your van looks amazing. My Velux skylight just arrived. This weekends challenge…
Can't remember the exact number, however it was only slightly heavier. Think an additional 50kgs or so. I removed quite a lot and was very careful with what I put back
Ayy bro. Both should work. I can't remember it was so long ago. I'm pretty sure it's intended to be on a 15 - 90° pitch. I built a timber curb to give it the desired fall

Thank you so much Dan for your help. Greatly appreciate it.
You’ve done one hell of a job. The kind of caravan people would pay solid cash for that’s for sure.
Thanks Tim, feel free to make an offer 😜
Wow fantastic job mate it's an amazing transformation beautiful van to go away to some amazing places in and live the dream in luxury and comfort 😀
Thanks so much David! Appreciate it mate.
This is insanely beautiful. Big inspiration for our own first caravan. ¡Muchisimas gracias from Spain!
Awesome work on the Viscount Dan especially doing it solo, appreciate all the steps you explained. The cupboard pulls are very trick.
I am about to embark on the skylight replacement idea. I would love to see any extra images or footage you have of the process you undertook for this.
Love it ❤
Looks bloody beautiful
Beautiful!! 😍 this should go viral!!
Thanks Julia. Feel free to share it around 🙂

Great job on the reno, wondering if you have an update on how the backsplash is holding up now it has been 2 years? I am looking to do the same in our 22ft viscount for the kitchen
Hey Rebecca. It has held up fine, zero issues.

Love it. Well done awesome stuff.
Thanks for watching!
Hey what an amazing job you have done I absolutely love this thank you for sharing this is how my dream caravan would be 😊👍
Thanks Donna! :)
Deadset thats what I'm dealing with too, double ceilings that hide water stained old ones. Love your work.
You're kidding! Such a stitch up ay
I know, I thought I was the only one. Can I ask what type of paint you used after the griplock primer?
Bro, sweet as job. Easily one of the best I've seen and the info was greatly appreciated, cheers.
Thanks Legend!
love it......fabulous
Thanka Kylie :)
Great work mate,It looks fantastic 👍👍
Cheers Troy!
This is one of the most beautiful caravans i've seen! Well done!!
Thanks Sarina! :)

Absolutely mint build mate, you've done well!!
Thanks legend!
Its beautiful. Great job. Enjoy🌞
Thanks Andrea :)
Hey just seeing how the awning is going and how it goes travelling? How do the support bars work on it do you remove them?
Great job, looks fab! Thanks for all details, very helpful & inspiring
Thanks for watching :)
Beautiful! You mentioned a tutorial for making the cushion covers can you please share?
Thanks! ruclips.net/video/mMm_irFrbHQ/видео.html
Can currently relate to the just bought the caravan, now having a closer look sighs😅
** ahhh cant paint that*
So disappointing haha
Waouh, this result ! love that space feeling, what's the dimensionof the caravan ? thanks for sharing thus project with us :)
What glue did you use for the splashback? I used a Davco brand for stone and glued it onto plywood first. This was unsuccessful😢
A great little reno! What was the before / after weight?
Do you have any details on chassis and suspension restoration?
Nice build mate! Hey one question : how's the skylight long term now it's been a year? Because I was thinking about it but I'm worried about the heat through the window into the van turning it into a sauna in summer
Richard Tobias
Did you build the kitchen bench tops or had them custom made. If you put them together yourself did use the 1200 x 600 x 17 mm Tasmanian Oak from Bunnings. Great build. !!
Thanks Richard. Bunnings stock always changes. At the time of purchase, Bunnings had pieces that measure 1800mm long
Great work! Have you got anymore videos on the actual build?
Cheers mate! Got a couple on making the cabinet doors. I linked them in the description.
Hi was there a problem with any asbestos’s thanks.
Nice but what is the idea behind the vertical wall on the right between the bed and the bench?
I removed a cupboard from that section. Some of the old caravans from what I've read use the cupboards as structural support so I figured I'd rather be safe than sorry. Plus it creates a little more separation from the bed which I don't mind.
Do you have a link to the upholstery video you mentioned?
It's here.
ruclips.net/video/mMm_irFrbHQ/видео.html
I see you used osmo poly for the bench tops. Do you know the sheen you used? There seems to be a few different types and I have no idea 🙄
Hey Emily. I think it was a satin finish
yo man from nz, just at bunnings now what brand did you get the duck egg paint, if dulux resene etc from cheers
Hey Paul. It shouldn't matter what brand. Think we used Dulux one time, also bought it in British paints before too. Low sheen, interior
@@viking.designs legend! we on!!!!
Yiiieeeew 🤙🤙🤙
Awesome
Hey love the van where did you get your awning?
Hey Shelly. Got it online from VidaXl
Hi Dan, did you completely replace the floor or where you able to just lay your flooring of choice over the existing floor?
Hey Jas. The subfloor was in good condition so I just installed the laminate floor over the top
@viking.designs awesome thanks mate, I'm thinking a out embarking on my own caravan reno, great video
@@jasongreen6834 thanks mate. yeah we were working off a solid foundation which was nice. Good luck!
how did you make the double bed , does it have storage underneath / thanks .
Hey Martin. I used some plywood and 90x90mm post to create a modular bed that can easily be removed if need be.
Cool
Thanks for watching mate 👍
Do you still have the original table?
We do. We kept it as it was so cool
Have you had any problems with your splash-back? E.g grout cracking?
No, no dramas at all
Nice job. Just wondering how much did you spend on materials to do the reno as I'm thinking of buying an old caravan to do up.
Thanks! Think I spent around 3-4K.
@@viking.designs cheers mate 👍

Hey Mel. I removed the cupboards. If you want to keep them, can you just run your ceiling into it?
Thanks Dan. Yeah, I’m going to have a crack at running the boards up to the overhead cupboards. I think I should be able to get it pretty neat. Your van looks amazing. My Velux skylight just arrived. This weekends challenge…
Hi, amazing video and transformation, well done! I am just trying to find the link you mentioned about making the cabinets and can’t find it?
Hey Louise, thanks! Both links are in the description. You can also search my channel.

@@viking.designs thank you! Do you mind me asking please what profile oak you used for the uppers?
It's the same Tasmanian oak, 42x19mm. It's square, the slight pencil round profile was created with a trimmer.
Wondering where your awning is from? Thank you 🙏
It was from vida xl
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!
Wow! Incredible! What did it end up weighing once complete?
Can't remember the exact number, however it was only slightly heavier. Think an additional 50kgs or so. I removed quite a lot and was very careful with what I put back
Love your caravan renovation! Well done! Do you know what colour white paint you used?
Thanks Emily. I believe it was just plain white. Un-tinted, water based enamel. :)
Amazing build :-) ❤How big budget did you have?
Thank you. Think I spent 3-4k from memory
Hello I’m very interested to know what u used to seal or wax ( brand and name) ur bench top? I jst brought the same wood and am wanting to do it right
It's called Osmo Poly X
Thank u so much for the reply 😁
How did you fit the cabinets to your caravan? Can these be screwed into the sides? Or are they glued in some way?
I screwed them off to the aluminium frame.
Hey mate, what size velux did you get?
My current pop up is 700x600
Hey Mitch, it's 550 X 980mm
Hey bro- did you use flat roof velux? Or pitched? Few on marketplace I've been looking at - don't want to buy the wrong sort. Chur bo!🤙🏾💯
Ayy bro. Both should work. I can't remember it was so long ago. I'm pretty sure it's intended to be on a 15 - 90° pitch. I built a timber curb to give it the desired fall
Inspiring video. Thanks. Are you a chippy?
You're welcome. Yep, I am.
Hey, what size caravan is this?
Hey Dylan, it's a 15ft
This is awesome how much did the reno roughly cost ?
Thanks Luke! Think it came in around the $4000 mark.
@@viking.designs money well spent looks great mate
Doubles nicely as a home office too! Thanks for watching mate
How much did you spend in total?
Think I spent around 3k on the reno
"It looks fucked" 😂😂 love it
😅
