I’ve been looking for reviews by women for this movie. So thank you for reviewing. :) I couldn’t tell if all the hate for this movie was just sexism or actually bc it was a bad movie. I personally really enjoyed the movie- but I’ll also admit that all your points are on the money. XD I think the reason why I like this movie so much is because I haven’t seen much of any action thrillers/general thriller movies that have a heavily female cast or that are directed by a female director (so if u have any to recommend, I’m all ears). I also like the shots of things and the time period reminded me of the first Bourne Legacy movie a bit, which is a great thriller action movie. Maybe it’s some of that nostalgia I hold for that movie which makes me enjoy this one, maybe it’s the delight of female main leads. Maybe it’s the female director- because there was no objectifying of those female characters, which was refreshing. Maybe it’s the fact that I didn’t know much about Madame Web from the comics and I’m viewing this movie as a thriller first and a superhero one second. I didn’t come into this movie expecting these characters to end up in costume.
So, is it a great superhero movie? maybe not. Was it a fun thriller at times? Sure. (Maybe I just love the song Toxic too much.)
And do I think it’s worse than Morbius like some people are saying? (Which u notably did not, so thx for not trying to draw that comparison :) ) I do not think so. Trying to compare the two also just doesn’t seem fair and comes off a little sexist… hence why I wanted to find female reviewers. I wanted someone who didn’t just seem to write the movie off because it features women. Some other reviewers are coming down a little hard on it with no good explanation for their reasons. So thank you for your thorough review. I’ll continue to say I enjoy the movie, but it’s very apparent why it’s not a masterpiece and it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea.
Oo then I think you'd like The Marvels on Disney+! I THOROUGHLY enjoyed the movie and it is directed by a female, female led with a female villian. Way better action, writing, chemistry between the characters. Not one of the best MCU movies to come out but definitely one of the better recent marvel projects.
You would assume sexism without even seeing it first for yourself?
