Minor bug fix update, it fixes a bug where the E4 rematch would set your level cap back to 77 if fought after Red. If you have encountered this bug already, all you have to do is update and rematch red to fix it. You can continue with your sav file. The updated patch is up!
@smithplayspokemon - I'm having some issues with the v1.2 update. First, when I toggle through the options for difficulty and gender, the arrow does not move. This in itself is not a huge deal, but it is an indicator of my other, more major issue: after the intro sequence with Professor Oak, right as the player is supposed to spawn in New Bark Town, my game screen goes completely white. As far as I know, this is only an issue with this update. Do you know the reason and/or remedies for this issue? Thank you in advance.
I just beat Red and capture the pokemon he left me, is there any others content i must take care of or the game end here in Legacy ? Like Silver rematch or something
Dude, I gotta ask Your work is amazing and I was wondering if there would be any chance in hell of you doing quality of life and difficulty improvements to Gold/Silver 97 Reforged ? Or the first Crystal variant of It 😅 I'm just Saiyan I would wait years.
A Yellow equivalent of FireRed/LeafGreen Is most appealing as a next step. Taking the quality of life improvements further and expanding on the Sevii Island hoping in particular would be interesting. I dont know if it would be possible, but adding the Orange Islands and league as an extra challenge before going off to Mt Silver for a final legendary encounter (say with Mew) would seem like a poetic end for Red before we see him again in Gen 2
I agree with this but I absolutely hated the remakes personally. I would like to see something that more closely mirrors the original games in terms of mechanics the same way the gen 2 mod kept everything to feel like gen 2. I would love a gen 3 asthetic game that back-ported the badge boost glitch, gen 1 miss, etc.
An emerald legacy would be a dream, especially with more emphasis on double battles! Like in the party screen you could choose to ready one pokemon for a single battle, or two for a double battle
There is a romhack for Emerald & Firered that have every fight be all double battles. In Fire Red Double Battle alongside your Kanto starter you get a Smoochum 🤭
100% on board for Emerald Legacy. Considering how good the game already is, I'm intrigued to see how it could be improved. Even just making an option at the beginning in addition to Normal/Hard could be Single/Double, making every boss fight against Rivals, Gym Leaders, and E4 members as double battles.
I also want a emerald romhack, I’d like to see improvements in how you get some pokemons, in crystal legacy now we have larvitar in dark cave, so would be Nice to see something like that with beldum!
Am a little bummed hearing about Kanto, but that's only bc I've only recently found out about this rom. Thank you and your team for all your hard work and dedication in making Crystal Legacy the definitive way to experience Gen II in all its glory. It's been a blast to play over and over again. I don't really have anything in mind for your future projects, but I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what you all are able to accomplish!
I really want to see you work on Gen 3, I think an Emerald Legacy would benefit a lot from adding more double battles around Hoenn, for a feature introduced in this genI think you barely see it in the wild throughout the game.
I'd bet that's exactly what it is. He said he and the team are moving away from gen 2, and coincidentally a "what if sceptile was dragon type" came out Hmmmm
It's extra effort, but it would be very fun that all gyms had a choice of going singles or doubles, except 7th gym. For it to work well, you'd probably need to basically doube the teams and make one for single battle, and another for double. But it'd would be nice if you had options and not be basically all singles, or all doubles like I've seen some hacks do.
Hey mate, I've spent today playing your version and I must say it is great. Holistic approach, many useful updates and high attention to detail. Pkmn Silver was my first back in the time and this is an amazing way to relive the adventure. Also it's awesome that gym leaders now have strategies and approaches to different situations. It makes sense for gym leaders to have access to TMs etc. That Pineco truly rocks! Thank you for your work
I would love to see an Emerald Legacy, that includes the day night feature as originally intended, and also that had all events in tact, it would be so fum to play the stuff I missed out on, Your work on this is incredible and thank you
I think doing a yellow legacy would be really cool, gen 3 is one of the most solid gens and I think really needs it the least, and yellow is such a unique game for the franchise. And who knows, maybe since the red in Gen 2 has the yellow team, maybe there can be some kind of way to add in a fight with Kris to tie it all to crystal legacy.
Yellow Legacy with Mew that you have to use Strength By SS Anne, Blane with his signature Magmar that was skipped for some reason (he’s the most adjusted gym leader) Stronger gym leaders and elite four (lance is way too easy)
Emerald, and HM tweaks would be great. There's so much superfluous hms like rock smash (useless in battle), cut (falls off almost immediately) , waterfall (not being physical in gen 3 makes it always worse then surf), and Dive (worse than waterfall, too weak to justify outside of just hm mule use). Items to either remove need for something like Dive, or tweaks to make these moves viable would be great so the player isnt forced to lug around an hm mule rather than a team member they want would be nice. Also the Rivals are dire need of a tweak, May/Brendan dont really get any involvement and doesnt fight you at all after an optional Lilycove fight, and Wally is too disconnected (basically just Mauville and Victory Road). More fleshed out rivals would be great, like having a goal beyond just helping their dad
Emerald please! I think what initially made gen 3 so memorable was the exploration. I trust you will already be making smart and subtle tweaks throughout the game. What you did with team rockets storyline in crystal legacy was great and blended in really well. I’d like to see you let yourself go fully creative with emerald and pepper in some thematically consistent but expansive content. But one thing specifically that I think would be cool, is to make Steven the champion again, but put the protagonist from Crystal Legacy as the secret final boss in meteor falls.
I agree, also Emerald doesn’t really have a good ROM outside of Emerald Kaizo, that I could find. I only really play SGB/GBC ROMs so I cant really speak though.

Pokemon Yellow Legacy sounds really appealing to me. The feature I look most at rom hacks and especially game enhancement/ difficulty mods are the weaker pokemon changes, something that I think you really achieved in crystal. With every pokemon being viable the game becomes really replayable and offer a different experience each time! Looking forward to your new project whichever game it may be!!
Emerald/FRLG Legacy would be insane. The obvious boost for FRLG would be to make it a reverse gen 2 game where at the end of the first E4 run you're allowed into Johto. Keep up the great work!
A Fire Red romhack w/ sevii islands integrated *before* the elite 4 has always been a dream of mine. Opens up a ton of encounters for you to use, and also gives access to breeding. Make it happen after beating Blaine when we first go to the islands, and I think it'll feel like a pretty nice natural progression. Great work on Crystal Legacy, excited to see what else you and the team come up with!
Love the constant improvements you guys have been making. GEN 3 would be a good generation to tweak as that generation can be steam rolled with 2/3 starters, and the lack of variety when fighting trainers, and how certain gym leaders like Winona be cleared easily
Love to see an Emerald Legacy. Updated Gym Leaders and Pokémon availability for the first 4 gyms. More of those challenging fights but with more tools to handle them. Great job on the rom hack! Followed for a while, played on release and definitely doing another run with this new update. You’re the man, Smith. Thank you for giving all of us an amazing Pokémon journey in one of the most nostalgic of eras. Can’t wait to see what you do next.
Since Yellow was my very first video game, I would love to see your guys' take on a Legacy game for it. I would really love to see some fresh story and lore implications for some of the attainable Pokémon, aside from solving some of the infamous Gen 1 bugs/flaws. An idea that comes to mind revolves around the starter Pokémon that the player can encounter on their journey. Following a plot similar to the anime was wonderful, but it felt like Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur were just put in without any thought given to how they fit into the larger narrative. It would be really cool to be given an overarching reason or theme to why our trainer helps out others by taking in the Kanto starters, or any 'gift' Pokémon for that matter. I feel as not only would this give greater meaning to how the player is supposed to view Pokémon as friends, but could also provide some narrative beats that lead the player on an end game quest to discover what being friends with Pokémon really means, ending in a discovery of the mythical Pokémon Mew which the player can then battle and capture.
Pokémon Yellow Legacy - and seeing as this game was most closely aligned to the original anime it would be great to introduce the Eevee brothers as trainers to battle in order to receive an Eevee, in a similar way that Surf requires defeating the Kimono sisters
I think Emerald Legacy is such a good idea for a project!I’ve always done little ideas in my notes for years. Besides from a large chunk of Pokemon that really need some extra love in stats or type changes I think that the trainer teams need serious tweaks. Team Aqua and Magma never get really threatening boss fights and Wallace…oh dear Wallace. The champ being type focused was just not interesting. If I could change one trainer it would be to make Wallace have a mixed team, with each Pokemon being specialised for winning a Pokemon contest section (one for cool, beauty, tough etc.). This lets him keep Milotic as his ace but lets him have a team worthy of a contest expert. I could go on about little changes all day but I’m very excited to see what comes next from your team. Crossing my fingers for my dragon type Sceptile playthrough.
@@F14thunderhawk I’m sure multiple people have completed or are working on their own versions, the thing is each ROM has unique touches and I would love to see the ‘vanilla+’ vibe from Crystal Legacy brought to Hoenn.
I would be so excited to see you work on a legacy for Gen 3! I think some of the things that could be improved are the selection and balancing of types available to you (ex. Fire types) as well as some of the Gym Leaders that need assistance. Flannery could especially use some help considering her team composition. Not necessarily needs any improvement, but I would love to see what features you would add to the secret bases in the game as those were my obsession in Gen 3.
I'd love to see your take on Yellow. It was my favorite as a kid. It would be cool to see it tell it's own story, different from the rest of Gen 1. It would also be cool to see the Orange Islands integrated into it as a post E4 storyline.
I'm BEGGING for the next project to be Emerald Legacy. You did such a fantastic job with Crystal Legacy that whatever comes next, I have full trust that the next project is gonna be an absolute banger of a game and I *cannot wait* to come along for the journey.
@@David-bj8riYeah but we really don't have a Emerald hack that's an improvement on the game and update it's features similar to what Crystal Legecy is. Most are a either or. They're either super difficulty hacks with some updates or they're just hacks that add every Pokemon but doesn't add level curves or accomdate the trainers for the newer Pokemon added to the routes. Closes to this is Pokemon Final but that game doesn't even change the gym leaders. I would love a emerald ROM hack done in the way Crystal legecy was done. Add in new events to get Dexoys/mew/latis/celebi/jirachi etc. Add all the pokemon up to Gen 3 and improve the gyms/Aqua/magma/elite4. I don't always want to sweat when playing Pokemon so always playing Kaizo is annoying when I just want a leisurely play through. There's already some really good improvement Gen 1 roms like Red++ imo is the definitive Gen 1 ROM hack game everyone should play. Red++ is phenomenal. Luna even added updates to change the tile set to a different season like snowy or fall. There's also new updates like ways to get Mew and other Gen 2 and Gen 3 mons. You can even get evolutions from Gen 4 for Electibuzz, Rhyhorn, Magmar, magneton, etc. There is another straight up Gen 1 improvement hack by JustRegularLuna for Red and Blue that improves Gen 1 and leaves out other updates.
Personally I'd love to see this team work on an Emerald romhack in a similar vein to this one, Emerald Legacy or whatever you'd want to call it. I think May/Brendan and Wally could have some minor tweaks made to their stories like Silver to really make their characters shine. Feels like there was a missed theme of children defying/exceeding their parent's expectations that would've made for a lovely little parallel between the trio
I would love to see a FireRed/LeafGreen legacy version! FireRed was my first Pokemon game, and I feel like there could be a decent amount of improvements made, like updating some team diversity (Like giving Giovanni a Rhydon instead of two Rhyhorns) and allowing evolution Pokemon to evolve throughout the main story, like Steelix, Espeon, and Umbreon!!
Hello, I’ve been recently enjoying Crystal Legacy and your content surrounding it. I would love to see your take on a Gen 3 in the Hoenn region that would update some of the Gym Leaders and make better use of the wide water areas. I look forward to the new content and please keep up the good work!
Hiya, fantastic video! Although Gen 3 is where most of younger persons started, I would love if you worked on Gen 1, preferably on Yellow (also an 'ultimate' game in the generation) or go with legacy of Red for Red Legacy! Some ideas: - fix "gen 1 miss" (1/256 chance that even a 100% hit chance move misses); - fix OP Hypnosis/Sleep powder (or rather the fact that a Pokemon just wakes up and it's turn is lost); - make the difficulty even higher than Yellow did; - make your selected Pokemon walk behind you like Pikachu. This one is just cute, but would require LOTS of work with sprites and interaction animations; - make Gust a flying-type move; - make Mew (or Ditto!) appear under the truck near the S.S Anne, - make Body Slam TM08 harder to obtain, since once most Pokemon get it (most can learn TM08, which matters MUCH in solo runs) and it's over for enemies - for example from the dustbin that Captain throws up in XD, so speed solo runners would have it harder during Rival SS Anne fight; - fix Body Slam not paralysing Normal-type Pokemon; - make that weird noise that informs player that the Pokemon is low on stop (QoL for speed runners); - likewise like in Crystal Legacy, make Kadabra, Haunter, Graveler and Machoke evolve on certain level; - give Vine Whip more PP and buff it to 40 base power so it's an equivalent of Ember and Water Gun; - make Bag management easier or add more slots as currently a player can only have like 20 items; - make poison take 1/8 of Pokemon's HP like in later gens instead of 1/16. Some balancing things that will eventually and inevitably make it hard: - SPECIAL works for Sp. Def. AND Sp. Attack, so Psychic-typed Pokemon are way too strong in defence. Or some in offence! There's just some ideas. Fantastic update by the way, Imma get my N3DSXL again :D EDIT: Also, PLEASE, make the game ask for Surf or Cut whenever a player clicks A facing water or a tree, a nice QoL.
The special limitation can be circumvented by messing with hp, defense and special. Example: After gen 1 Alakazam's 135 special was split into 135 spA and 85 spD. To adjust it in gen 1 you can nerf its hp from 55 to 14 and buff his defense from 45 to 77. This will make him keep the same physical bulk, but lose special bulk while being as strong while attacking with special moves! To find those values I played around with numbers till I got the right ones, but this process could be automated for sure 🤓
I'd add the badge boost glitch, the AI derping out over "super-effective" status moves, Psywave causing a desync in multiplayer, Fly/Dig giving invincibility in certain interactions with paralysis (which is why they're banned from comp), and Lick being unable to affect Psychic-types to the list of things that should be fixed. The annoying low health noise is *why* speedrunners intentionally get their Pokemon low on health. It suppresses certain other sound effects that consume valuable time when played. I really don't think that moving body slam from just before the S.S. Anne rival fight to just after would affect much? It seems like kind of a pointless change. As for other, non-bug fix changes, buffing the BP of Lick, giving Lickitung access to Lick, and making Dragon Rage a non-set damage move would be on my personal list.
I just subscribed to your channel- it has been so much fun watching these videos for the past few months. Pokémon Emerald Legacy should be your next project. I just played through Vanilla Emerald for the first time in years and while it’s a great game, there are definite improvements to be made. My strongest suggestion would be a reworking of both the original rival (Brendan/May) and Wally in terms of their story and team composition. We literally never see the fully evolved starter Pokémon from the former and I always thought Wally’s team was not the best representation of who he has become! Hope I get picked!
Time-stamp 2:24 - Move-relearner included 3:20 - egg hatching time reduced by 75%, 90% for Togepi 4:50 - Cut’s power was reduced slightly, but it functions as a Bug-RazorLeaf 4:58, 5:10 - Twineedle is buffed, including a 20% chance to poison, so it acts as a late-game Bug move. Scyther and Scizor learn Twineedle at Level 42. 5:18 - Scizor learns Sword Dance at Level 48, Scyther learns Double Team at Level 48. Scizor learns Agility at Level 54, Scyther learns Sword Dance at Level 54. 5:30 - Houndour learns Bite at Level 12, and Misdreavus can learn Icy Wind via TM. 5:36 - Pinsir and Heracross no longer learn Rock Smash via level up.
I would love to see a Fire Red and Leaf Green legacy with better integration of gen 2 and 3 pokemon and more diverse teams for the gym leaders and elite 4.
HOLY CRAP!!! Thanks for the update Smith! This elevates Crystal Legacy to a new level and I am so grateful for it. Keep up the good work team!! We nerds appreciate it. Also.. EMERALD LEGACY INCOMING!! I think Emerald needs a difficulty update, and some moves upgrades as well, same you guys did in CL.
Well… I would like to see how you guys tackle Emerald and one thing that did always bug me is how Sky Pillar was damaged but no destruction of other buildings and also how team Magma and Aqua would react to that…
It would be great if you could remake Gen 1: B/R/Y using Gen 3 (Ruby/Sapphire graphics) and make it so once you (Red) defeat the elite 4, you can proceed into the other Joto and onwards! Eggs: - Day care can make eggs. - You pick up Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle & Eevee as an egg. Team Rocket: - The Team Rocket arc should rival the one of the final gym leaders. - Final scene involving Mewtwo breaking free from their lab and destroying shit before leaving. Legendary Birds etc: - You see the legendary birds and Mew at times. I could think of more shit but "In the eye of the beholder" I guess. Y'all could come up with way more. :)
The update we all needed!! I would personally like to see an Emerald legacy and have Wally reworked to be your rival. It always felt really weird to just have the final rival battle with Brendan/May be in lilycove and with they way you teach Wally and you run into him more it’s always felt like he was meant to be the main rival
I love you bro. Thank you and everyone else for doing this so much. I've been in 7th heaven playing the best version of my favorite gen. If I had to pick which generation to work on next it would have to be gen 3 and specifically emerald. I believe Emerald is one of if not the best pokemon games ever but it could use some improvements. Since they were already flirting with physical/special splits that's the most obvious one. This is also when they got away from "Gotta catch 'em all" because they knew they were about to finesse all of us loyal fans and turn up the mega-corporation greed, so adding in an actual national dex that is worth it would be nice even if all pokemon isn't feasible. Let's change these encounter rates, especially on the sea since there's too much water. Get rid of feebas needing beauty stat to evolve. Make the safari zone feel worth it again. Add quality of life changes that you all are continuing to do with Crystal Legacy. I would love some type of way to add the vs. seeker or something to get more fights out of trainers. It also felt like gen 3 was where HM's became overkill so they could still be a move if you want them too but they should honestly just be a function for traversing the world. Trainers in Ever Grande Cave were pitiful and scarce. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE MAKE BRENDAN/MAY OR WALLY GOOD. I cannot stress enough how they are quite literally THE WORST "rivals" of any game and I will die on that hill no matter how annoying/weak/dumb some of the other ones have been. Those two goobers both fall off for large chunks of the story when it comes to battling in favor of Team Land vs. Water, (don't get me started) so when they actually do battle you, you're confused and there is 0 weight or impact to having to face them. Wally we don't care that you can breathe better when we barely knew you to begin with, it's called an asthma pump. The battle frontier ofc could be updated with more rare mons for teams maybe use that cave for more than Smeargle. Let us do the events (EON Ticket, Aurora Ticket, Mystic Ticket, and Old Sea Map) ofc as well. I can understand the call for people to want gen 1 done because it was such a mess but I'd rather you guys take something that was good and make it even better by smoothing out the edges. I'm sure if I played thru Emerald again I could think of more but I've rambled long enough. Thanks again. Love u guys seriously.
The only request and suggestion I would make for the hard mode is for it to also disable badge boosts. Otherwise, I think it's pretty much perfect. Also, is there a way to rematch gym leaders and Red in this hack? Additionally, I personally think you should go for it and expand Kanto. There are only a couple of Crystal romhacks that add stuff back in to Kanto and none do a full overhaul. Yours could differentiate itself by doing so and I dare say that it could very well become the definitive Crystal romhack if done well.
Emerald Legacy would be awesome because I personally have problems with team loadouts of certain gym leaders + I am curious what could be done to make the Steven Stone Fight at the end more difficult.
Hoping for a Yellow legacy. Gen 1 has a lot of bugs and oddities and could use a lot of love. Yellow also has a lot of unique things about it and considering how well you did Crystal I believe you could highlight it's strengths well.
Really enjoyed watching your updates and the Crystal Legacy; would love to give it a go one day - though I do struggle with emulators! I'd love to see a version of Yellow updated to FireRed/LeafGreen standards, so Gen 3 gameplay but still with Pikachu following you around and the chance to get all the starters. This plus a tougher challenge (better Gym Leaders/Elite 4 etc) would be cool, and whatever other twists you add like you have done for Crystal.
i'd be very interested in seeing Emerald Legacy! admittedly, the gen 3 romhacks market is a bit oversaturated, but i'd love to see what changes you'd make! plus, Mawile is my favorite Pokemon of all time, and throughout the games you can CLEARLY tell it was made to be a Dark-type at first, so i'd be interested to see which direction you'd overhaul it in. would you bring it back to its Dark-type intentions, or lean further into its final cut Steel-typing?
I think Mawile would do great if it had both typings, assuming they don't add Fairy type. As long as you keep it away from the few types it would be weak to, it would have some great resistances. It could also use a boost to its BST, since even with Mega Evolution, it doesn't even reach the 500 mark.
Loving Crystal Legacy so far, I would love to see what you and your team would be able to cook with an Emerald Legacy style romhack. The final rival battle (Brendan/May) is unfulfilling and Wally needs to appear more in the plot so that his appearance in Victory Road feels earned and not forced.
Well, i don't know if i get right what a legacy rom means, but even though i'm not a fan of Kanto, i would like to see "fixing Pokemon FRLG" with the following changes: -following pokemons(i think it would upgrade the pokemon experience) and also i know it's a yellow and a Lets go thing, but it's just too amazing to not be included, also if it's possible it would be wonderful see you surfing with the actual pokemon instead of a weird looking blue plataform. If this also means the small water pokemons not having acess to learn Surf i guess it would make sense and would be fair as well. -upgrade stats of some weak pokemons and maybe give gyarados a dragon type since Lance's team lacks of diversity having three unescessary dragonites. -Put some move relearner and a move deleter earlier in the game(probably in Saffron city) -turn every single gen 1 pokemon acessible before E4(except the legendaries)(by the way, i would love to use an umbreon against the Kanto League) -boost a little bit the chance of a chansey holding Lucky Egg(personally, i never found interesting have to capture tons of chansey and never get Lucky Egg, maybe i'm too unlucky, but anyways). -make the gym leaders pokemons make more sense, like a Psyduck to Misty and Electabuzz to Mr.Surge. -Turn weak types such as Bug, Ice and Dark types with movepools more wide so they can cover their weakness. -Also, i think Leaf/Green was just ignored by the entire franchise so it would definely amazing if she participates in the story among Blue and Red. -Maybe create a story to the trio of the legendary birds it would be good too. They lack of story and it kinda gives no background to them unlike Mew and Mewtwo which have some info about them in the Mansion. -It would be awesome too if the E4 Members actually do something in the game outside the league, like it seems thay want to(like the ice type member in the sevii islands), but they rush out of time to do it. -and for last but not least, make some specific gyms more harder, like for an example: Geovanni, who can be easily 1-hit kill by water type pokemons 'cause in that point of the game you have a lot of options of that particulary type to defeat him.
I am open to see a legacy version of any of the gen 1-3 games! I never really liked or played RSE, so I'd be intrigued to learn more about any of those 3 games and see what you'd come up with to make them better 🥰
Holy crap pat. The amount of work and dedication on this rom hack is remarkable and everyone who’s contributing is doing a great job. I salute to everyone for putting in the hard work 🫡🫡🫡🫡
I was sort of bummed hearing the description of hard mode until I caught the built in level caps. That's enough to get me excited because I can play blind without overleveling. I've only reached union cave or whatever it is after violet city so I'll just restart my nuzlocke now, thanks for the update!
I’d love to see your Dragon Sceptile video spin off and outwards into a full blown Emerald Legacy. Much as I love the Hoenn dex, more opportunities for more varied encounters are only a good thing and I’d love to see how your changes to some of Gen 2’s biggest trashmons carry over to 3.
This update looks FIRE🔥Thanks Smith! Also please do Pokemon Red next! Gen 1 Gym leaders and E4 have TERRIBLE movesets (Brock with Bide, Sabrina with Psywave) or just downright suck *COUGH* BLAINE AND BRUNO!
A FireRed/LeafGreen style update to Yellow would be pretty nice, with maybe more involvement/challenges from the Rockets. I feel like Rocket showing up sort of like Majima Everywhere in Yakuza Kiwami could add an interesting and sudden challenge.
nice updates! i personally would like to see a gen 1 project with an actual post game that is not just catching mewtwo and calling it a day. what about the save/time battery for the physical game? would that need replacing over time like the OG G/S/C?
I don’t know why no one created a gen 1 game based on crystal rom. The map is already there, just need to recreate some buildings and create some events from gen 1.. them you would have an entire johto to explore as a post game for Red that would Be amazing There is one hack that does that but you start at kanto and after ss anne you go to johto
Kinda tragic that I can't upgrade as I'm half way through my Crystal Legacy play through but the upgrades you've shown seem really great! Even on my version it is seemingly the definitive version to play right now! Love it! If I was to pick I'd love to see a Fire Red/Leaf Green and really flesh out the seviis - something I always hated was that you couldn't catch more of the Gen 2 stuff there so would love to see that!
I know it’s a bit late for this quality of life, but adding an NPC to change your character’s color map for Crystal Legacy would be cool. Unlockable after E4 or whatever. Not just the opposite gender color, but select from the full palette. Would love to have it past the Slowpoke Well…
You got me just downloaded and started a new crystal legacy game, i was sceptical at first, but after watching the entire yellow legacy rom vid, you did, and then the crystal legacy im here playing now
Red & Blue is my jam. Played the heck out of those two games as a young kid. Would love to see a romhack with the following updates: -let me go back to Mt. Moon from Cerulean City! (add stairs to the ledge) -Kakuna/Metapod learn Harden when you evolve from Weedle/Caterpie -Brock wears a shirt -Moltres is somewhere else, not just standing near some guy in a cave. -Trainers before Koga use more pure poison types, not so many psychic types Thanks for doing what you're doing!!!
Emerald needs Steven Stone back as champ, events fully added, Wallace as 8th gym leader, and redone stories. It's a major logic leap for archie to take the red orb and Maxie to take the blue orb.
I've just downloaded this! Been watching your vids for a while and I was really intrigued. I haven't even got to Mr. Pokemon yet and I already love it! You did really well. It's the little things....using Elm's pc, your mom not explaining how to use the phone when you say you already know how to use it. Be proud mate, it's really well done. EDIT: I'm just about to reach Violet City. As far as I'm concerned, Legacy is now canon in my mind. Having too much fun.
I say you should work on Gen 1 next, you've done such a nice job on game boy I think you should finish off the games on this console before moving on to something more powerful and by proxy having to learn new things will up the time it takes to finish. Whereas for Gen 1 you can mostly apply what you learned from Crystal Clear to streamline the process. Now onto some fixes that you can implement. You can separate special attack and defense. You can fix the Ultra ball making it better than a Great Ball and not just a super expensive regular Pokeball You can fix Focus Energy so that instead of making you 1/4 as likely to land critical hits it will be 4X as likely as it was meant to be. You can make critical hits not dependent upon the speed stat. You can fix the Badge Boost Glitch that no matter whether it be a buff like agility or a debuff like growl, the stat boost that Badges give you will be reapplied making you a lot stronger than you should be. You can fix the Safari Zone, make it easier to catch pokemon and make the rules for catching in it a lot more clear. You can fix the "Good AI" and make it so things like Lance spamming agility against your poison type because it's the "Super Effective Move" doesn't happen. You can fix just how OP Psychic types are with some actual good ghost and bug type moves. Maybe you can add in gender and breeding. (I don't know) And just as a joke have Mew appear under that truck like we all thought it would.
I would love to see a gen 3 touchup! Specifically FireRed/LeafGreen. The main thing I would love to see is a way to encounter/get every single pokemon from gen 1-3. Would add in more variety and flair to not only our teams but also potentially the teams of other PKMN trainers. You guys have done an amazing job so far on this romhack and I cant wait to see what comes next :)
Love the work you have done. I've always dreamed about a third gen 1 remake, like a Thunder Yellow, or in this case Legacy Thunder Yellow (?). I would love to see the OG generation battles with special stat division and physical/special split. Thank you for all the work you've done for the community
2:55 Fuck yeah, finally. You managed to do what gamefreak never did and made the pokedex useful. Especially the encounter rates are really helpful. Do Emerald next. It's already the best pokemon game in terms of content and it would be even better with the same qol updates and a bit harder. Also a mode that makes everything a double battle would be appreciated. And if possible make Steven the champion again (maybe in a rerun of the league).
Just want to say i love this rom hack. My favorite addition so far is the move reminder. Such a cool feature in case you had too many HMs to learn a new move
I can't believe I am now just finding out about this rom hack! Getting ready to patch my copy. As for the giveaway, either an Emerald Legacy, based on what I have seen on this video, or an Electric Yellow version that is similar to Fire Red/Leaf Green. One thing I would update: There has got to be a way to have a better berry system. Maybe an instant growth when you water once per day? Once the berries have been picked, a message could pop up saying something like "you have already planted your berries for the day".
the dv calculator added is actually really awesome lol. I was typing a comment about that and i clicked a random part in the video timeline and sure enough, it was explained right where i landed.
1.) EMERALD LEGACY 2.) Fix the Gym leader teams! (Watson has one Hoenn mon) Also could do some awesome deoxys and jirachi story line (like the one we all fell for as kids) emerald was one of my first games as a kid and my eternal battery has run dry :,) time based events could be awesome in your legacy version!
I've finished yellow and am 6 badges in crystal 1.2.2. An Emerald legacy game would be great with your usual improved trainer teams gym leaders and so on. The more varied team selection helps for me replaying these games and using something like a shpeal early in emerald would be fun. Keep up the good work and im sure whatever game comes next will be a lot of fun to play through.
would have been great to have a small description that pops up when you click a move in the summary that shows what the move does, how much power and pp, or when a pokemon is trying to learn a new move
I just finished my no grind run on hard, and I honestly felt like I was playing crystal for the first time again, the challenge was fresh, the old problems fixed, and legendary trainers, well done with this hack
Amazing updates, the poke-dex was my favourite,. Brilliant work as always, I can't wait to play. I would love to see an emerald legacy with updated move sets, harder gym leader teams and a way to get access to mew, jirachi,ho-oh and otherwise unavailable pokemon without using cheats/bonus discs.
Late to the party, but emerald with a visible day night cycle would be incredible. Crystal having a real time clock made a big impact on me as a kid and i always missed that it wasn't visible in the gen 3 games. in fact as a kid i didn't realize they had an rtc until someone mentioned that berries grow with the rtc as opposed to accumulated game time. fantastic work as always and i look forward to the next one!
It's so wild finding your channel, I used to watch you during the old fortnite days and then I basically stopped playing. Then, listening to one of my favorite podcasts (into the aether), I heard about this awesome Crystal romhack. Didn't even recognise the name until i opened your channel and was like..."wait! I remember you!!"
This is my favourite game at the moment. Great job on this! I have beaten it 7 times this week and I love it. Thanks for the update. I'll download it tomorrow :D
I'd love to see an Emerald Legacy! its one of the best games in the series already but with the type of improvements you made to Crystal, brought to Emerald could make it the best Pokémon game by far! Although i would love to see you do the same to Pokémon yellow, I feel an Emerald Legacy would be better first as we've already spent time in Kanto with Crystal legacy and you're still going to be making improvements to that area of the game so a Hoenn game would be a nice change of pace! Love your Pokémon content and your Crystal Legacy thankyou so much for bringing it to us and whatever you decide on for your next rom hack I can't wait to play it!
I would love to see either Ruby or Sapphire get the new coat of legacy paint. Typically Romhacks for gen 3 remake Emerald, which is great, but there is something about Ruby/Sapphire that makes me more nostalgic and smile. Besides the obvious updates to the game such as more unique route encounters, trainer and gym leader updates, and quality of life updates like Crystal Legacy's 1.2 pokedex (seriously being able to see level up moves and route encounters in game may be my favorite feature of any game now!) I would love to see more side quests. While other games have them, I feel like Gen 3 was the best at it, for a lot of the stuff in the the game it wasn't just "Talk to me and I give you a TM" you had to go do stuff, and it wasn't mandatory. Like breaking the rocks to let the lovers see each other, Watson's request to go to the power plant, and fighting the family challenge to get a Macho Brace. None of it was required, but it was fun and made getting items more rewarding. So yeah, the update I would like to see would be Ruby/Sapphire with more mini quests for Items and TMs!
Just wanted to leave a comment following my main story playthough. I had a ton of fun with this playthough. I didn't take advantage of the open-ended changes. I usually make a beeline for Cianwood since I like getting Fly as soon as possible, and this playthrough was no different. But, the way you adjusted the game based around the open-endedness post Morty made grinding so much bearable. Not to mention, the changes to stats and movesets made some nice Pokemon I like genuinely usable. Shout outs to my Murkrow, Makuta, who tanked a Rock Slide from Lance's Aerodactyl and beat it with a two-piece Icy Wind into Steel Wing. Quagsire and Jynx were a ton of fun to use too. Between Crystal Legacy and a recent video regarding HGSS from Zen Mode, there's been a desire to fix Johto's weakest points, and I'm all for it, since I love the atmosphere of Johto.
These updates are amazing. I'm late to the party, but CL has given me a feeling of nostalgia that I sorely needed. I know the contest is over, but if anything I'd love to see Ruby or Fire Red get the Legacy treatment :D
I would LOVE to play Emerald Legacy! The changes i would make first are probably balancing the starters (dragon sceptile anyone?) and adding a proper day/night cycle
I just discovered your ROM hack, and it is amazing. If possible, a popular small QOL change I recommend adding is to face the player away from nurse joy after healing Pokémon.
I would absolutely love to see you guys tackle Emerald and change around the available mons. Gen 3 team composition always felt awkward to me in every run. Keep up the great work! Crystal Legacy is very quickly becoming my favorite Pokemon game!
Great job on this Crystal Legacy, love this rom since I love travel between region. Would love to see Pokemon walk with us on next update on this rom or any legacy rom
3:09 Forgot to comment on it before, but showing a Pokémon's DVs on their status page is an awesome feature though it may not look like it at first. Case in point, I was soft-resetting to get a female Eevee from Bill for breeding and my jaw dropped when I realized her Defence and Special DVs are equal to 10. I immediately saved the game and put her in the Daycare (with a male Snubbull), and after just 12 retries I got a Shiny Eevee with Charm as an Egg Move that I intend to evolve into Umbreon. Had not been for the status screen reporting her Determinant Values, likely I would've never realized my gift Eevee had a 1/64 chance to produce a shiny.
I really loved the fact that I could complete the Pokédex in Crystal Legacy. Red version was my first game but it would probably be more fun under the Yellow storyline to make a similar version possible. That and a Squirtle with sunglasses!
Emerald Legacy would be amazing! With a lot of the QoL changes in CL implemented, it'd make a great game even greater! Also, maybe adding in some of the additions from ORAS but in the GBA style would be do dope. I'm no game designer so that's probably a little pie-in-the-sky, but would still be cool to see
Gen 1 for me! It's the OG that I started with and will always have a special place in my heart. I'd love to see a lot of the ideas from Crystal legacy added, along with some nice little easter eggs/bonus content for those who know the games inside out.
MY GUY!!!!!!! I'm barely to sprout tower and already love the changes I've seen already. This is my favorite generation and it feels kind of new again. Great job can't wait to finish this
Yellow Legacy mentions from other commenters are a great concept. I can imagine even dipping into Kanto after spending so much time in Johto being potentially exhausting, but I have to shoutout FR/LG. Something I’ve personally wanted to improve is the Habitat Dex-making it more fleshed out and accurate. Adding primary/secondary habitats and stuff like that, maybe fixing how this is all displayed in the dex. Not a necessary change by any means, but something I’ve personally had an interest in, and that I think would benefit in a cataloguing sense. On another note, Emerald Legacy with a wider distribution of Pokemon similar to Crystal Legacy would be amazing. Just getting a chance to spread out those encounters while still maintaining the allure of rare Pokemon (ex: Chimecho), which you’d also be making more usable akin to Crystal Legacy. That would just be earth shattering tbh. Amazing content, amazing videos. Keep up the amazing work
Bro I love this rom hack. I used to play Gold and my sister Crystal when I was 5 and I was hooked for years. I have rushed through Gold 2-3 times since then, but never really did all the niche things like catch all the roamers, do the bug catching contest, breeding etc. This time however I decided to do a proper playthrough and I was blown away. It's an improvement in so many small ways (and some major) that the entire product feels very polished just like Emerald did. This time I even decided to shiny hunt for the first time. I did a full odds shiny Ho-oh hunt which lasted for about 10 hours of playtime. The first 2-3 hours were OK, but at hour 4-5 I started to worry that I didn't soft reset properly. Then I started to think that perhaps you had done something that removed shinies from static pokemon. At hout 6-7 I reeeaaally started to think that I've accidentally skipped it and that I will be stuck here forever. The final hours I was just depressed thinking "Wow.. That fucker. That fucker removed shiny static pokemon and didnt say anything about it in the video. Fuck that guy so fucking much". But then, he came to me, and Crispy joined my team. I also found a shiny gene ditto after about 2 hours of search, then bred to get a shiny scizor, umbreon, victorybell, slowking and raichu. Thank you for this, it was an amazing experience. Didn't need no update to give me the roamer location doe 👀
Tbh I'd really love a FR/LG romhack. I'm kinda new to the romhacking scene so I dunno much on improving it, but generally making the battles more challenging and engaging like you've done with Crystal Legacy would be really dope. That and adding in the event Pokemon too. Im having a really fun time playing Legacy on my GB. through the Everdeive. Thank you for making it!
@@dervakommtvonhinten517probably will be included as part of the Dec 16th video
@@thefanfictiontitanhappening to me too. Hope it does get fixed soon. I really enjoy this romhack
I just beat Red and capture the pokemon he left me, is there any others content i must take care of or the game end here in Legacy ? Like Silver rematch or something
Dude, I gotta ask
Your work is amazing and I was wondering if there would be any chance in hell of you doing quality of life and difficulty improvements to Gold/Silver 97 Reforged ? Or the first Crystal variant of It 😅
I'm just Saiyan
I would wait years.
You made the Pokédex act the way I always thought it should
Right!! I credit Nayru62 for that little feature
Yeah this should be in every pokemon game tbh, great QOL change
I remember always having to go online to view all of this vital info. It should be in every game for sure
@@creamu2roblox Yeah, kinda distracts from the immersion of a game if you're constantly searching stuff up about it

Please look at this comment! Yellow legacy done on the FireRed engine would be awesome.
Ooooo i love this idea!!! Lightning Yellow Legacy!
Look up Pokémon Recharged Yellow by Jaizu
If its done with frlg then the final battle could have johto Pokémon, possibly even gold himself
I really hope that emerald legacy is the next project
There is a romhack for Emerald & Firered that have every fight be all double battles.
In Fire Red Double Battle alongside your Kanto starter you get a Smoochum 🤭
@@GrimmGungrenthats amazing i always loved double battles
Would actually make me want to play gen 3 again
Wish granted
100% on board for Emerald Legacy. Considering how good the game already is, I'm intrigued to see how it could be improved. Even just making an option at the beginning in addition to Normal/Hard could be Single/Double, making every boss fight against Rivals, Gym Leaders, and E4 members as double battles.
Appreciate the support man🙏🙏
I also want a emerald romhack, I’d like to see improvements in how you get some pokemons, in crystal legacy now we have larvitar in dark cave, so would be Nice to see something like that with beldum!
Same here. I love Emerald.
@@smithplayspokemon gen 3 suffers the most from no physical/special split, so adding it that time might actually be the right choice.
Hey when is the pokemon walking challenge in florida heat coming back?
Your commitment to making the best Gen 2 experience is to be commended. The community appreciates all you and your team do.
Pokemon perfect Emerald did just that and has almost everything this has too. Its not as refined but almost.
I'd bet that's exactly what it is. He said he and the team are moving away from gen 2, and coincidentally a "what if sceptile was dragon type" came out
Hmmmm
Agreed , it’s such an easy game too. 😊
Emerald legacy is confirmed and I’m stupid excited.
Thank you for your work
I would love to see an Emerald Legacy, that includes the day night feature as originally intended, and also that had all events in tact, it would be so fum to play the stuff I missed out on, Your work on this is incredible and thank you
Look up Emerald Cross by Jaizu
I think doing a yellow legacy would be really cool, gen 3 is one of the most solid gens and I think really needs it the least, and yellow is such a unique game for the franchise. And who knows, maybe since the red in Gen 2 has the yellow team, maybe there can be some kind of way to add in a fight with Kris to tie it all to crystal legacy.
I would love to see Yellow legacy next
Yellow Legacy with Mew that you have to use Strength By SS Anne, Blane with his signature Magmar that was skipped for some reason (he’s the most adjusted gym leader) Stronger gym leaders and elite four (lance is way too easy)
yeah yellow legacy is the best option because of the trade system aswell
@@nickw7452 and just fixing Ghost type and making it so psychic isn't so unbelievably OP
@@ethanmcentyre2294and fixing bug types too! Cut as a bug move the way it is in crystal legacy would be so great for gen 1

Oooh can we integrate Yellow’s story into the gen 1 remakes? I would love a Electric yellow with the sevii islands!
Love the constant improvements you guys have been making. GEN 3 would be a good generation to tweak as that generation can be steam rolled with 2/3 starters, and the lack of variety when fighting trainers, and how certain gym leaders like Winona be cleared easily
Dude, love Crystal version so much. Thank you for letting my inner child enjoy this again. Keep up the good work!
No! The bugs are an integral part of the charm of the early games. Do not remove them!
gen 1 perfect
🔥🔥🔥
Crossing my fingers for my dragon type Sceptile playthrough.
thing is someone else already started a Emerald Legacy development
We have hundreds of emerald hacks already, I'd say gen 1 beforehand is more deserving
@@David-bj8ri Or Kalos, though I bet that'd be way harder to do.
@@yep_itsmeagain Inclement Emerald??
@@David-bj8ri Inclement includes Pokémon up through Gen 7, so definitely has different goals than Legacy-style games would.
This is absolutely amazing. So wonderful to see my fav gen get so much love. Cheers mate
Isn’t that just Omega Ruby?
Prof. Oak would be proud of this Pokédex.
Hiya, fantastic video! Although Gen 3 is where most of younger persons started, I would love if you worked on Gen 1, preferably on Yellow (also an 'ultimate' game in the generation) or go with legacy of Red for Red Legacy!
Some ideas:
- fix "gen 1 miss" (1/256 chance that even a 100% hit chance move misses);
- fix OP Hypnosis/Sleep powder (or rather the fact that a Pokemon just wakes up and it's turn is lost);
- make the difficulty even higher than Yellow did;
- make your selected Pokemon walk behind you like Pikachu. This one is just cute, but would require LOTS of work with sprites and interaction animations;
- make Gust a flying-type move;
- make Mew (or Ditto!) appear under the truck near the S.S Anne,
- make Body Slam TM08 harder to obtain, since once most Pokemon get it (most can learn TM08, which matters MUCH in solo runs) and it's over for enemies - for example from the dustbin that Captain throws up in XD, so speed solo runners would have it harder during Rival SS Anne fight;
- fix Body Slam not paralysing Normal-type Pokemon;
- make that weird noise that informs player that the Pokemon is low on stop (QoL for speed runners);
- likewise like in Crystal Legacy, make Kadabra, Haunter, Graveler and Machoke evolve on certain level;
- give Vine Whip more PP and buff it to 40 base power so it's an equivalent of Ember and Water Gun;
- make Bag management easier or add more slots as currently a player can only have like 20 items;
- make poison take 1/8 of Pokemon's HP like in later gens instead of 1/16.
Some balancing things that will eventually and inevitably make it hard:
- SPECIAL works for Sp. Def. AND Sp. Attack, so Psychic-typed Pokemon are way too strong in defence. Or some in offence!
There's just some ideas.
Fantastic update by the way, Imma get my N3DSXL again :D
EDIT: Also, PLEASE, make the game ask for Surf or Cut whenever a player clicks A facing water or a tree, a nice QoL.
The special limitation can be circumvented by messing with hp, defense and special.
Example:
After gen 1 Alakazam's 135 special was split into 135 spA and 85 spD.
@@OathOfRevenge Stat EXP screws with those numbers, though.
Agreed.

Agatha is begging for those ghost types. Probably all three new lines😂
@jonathansoriano3568 wow no sableye love :((. Its notable that she needs to be kept distinct from morty and especially phoebe
As long as they keep there type theme and don’t use random Pokémon like Radical Red
Gen 1. I really want to see Pokemon follow their trainers in the overworld
Just started playing with this update, thank you so much for making this ❤🎉
HOLY CRAP!!!
Eggs:
- Day care can make eggs.
- You pick up Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle & Eevee as an egg.
Team Rocket:
- The Team Rocket arc should rival the one of the final gym leaders.
- Final scene involving Mewtwo breaking free from their lab and destroying shit before leaving.
Legendary Birds etc:
- You see the legendary birds and Mew at times.
We need more Wally fights and a new final may/brenden fight along with the ability to name your rival,
Definitely name all 3 of them, and a little more fleshed out
Also more courtney
Well, i don't know if i get right what a legacy rom means, but even though i'm not a fan of Kanto, i would like to see "fixing Pokemon FRLG" with the following changes:
-following pokemons(i think it would upgrade the pokemon experience) and also i know it's a yellow and a Lets go thing, but it's just too amazing to not be included, also if it's possible it would be wonderful see you surfing with the actual pokemon instead of a weird looking blue plataform. If this also means the small water pokemons not having acess to learn Surf i guess it would make sense and would be fair as well.
-upgrade stats of some weak pokemons and maybe give gyarados a dragon type since Lance's team lacks of diversity having three unescessary dragonites.
-Put some move relearner and a move deleter earlier in the game(probably in Saffron city)
-turn every single gen 1 pokemon acessible before E4(except the legendaries)(by the way, i would love to use an umbreon against the Kanto League)
-boost a little bit the chance of a chansey holding Lucky Egg(personally, i never found interesting have to capture tons of chansey and never get Lucky Egg, maybe i'm too unlucky, but anyways).
Thank you!!
@@smithplayspokemonalso I suggest more Yellow thanks crystal.
This is the most excited Ive ever been about Pokemon. Thank you. This is simply incredible. I can't stop playing!
A FireRed/LeafGreen style update to Yellow would be pretty nice, with maybe more involvement/challenges from the Rockets. I feel like Rocket showing up sort of like Majima Everywhere in Yakuza Kiwami could add an interesting and sudden challenge.
Look up Yellow Recharged by Jaizu
nice updates! i personally would like to see a gen 1 project with an actual post game that is not just catching mewtwo and calling it a day. what about the save/time battery for the physical game? would that need replacing over time like the OG G/S/C?
I don’t know why no one created a gen 1 game based on crystal rom. The map is already there, just need to recreate some buildings and create some events from gen 1.. them you would have an entire johto to explore as a post game for Red that would
Be amazing
There is one hack that does that but you start at kanto and after ss anne you go to johto
Would love to see a romhack with the following updates:
-let me go back to Mt. Moon from Cerulean City! (add stairs to the ledge)
-Kakuna/Metapod learn Harden when you evolve from Weedle/Caterpie
-Brock wears a shirt
-Moltres is somewhere else, not just standing near some guy in a cave.
-Trainers before Koga use more pure poison types, not so many psychic types
Thanks for doing what you're doing!!!
I started playing and decided on check out the Pokédex which I never do. Couldn’t believe how cool it was. Such a sick feature.
You can fix the Ultra ball making it better than a Great Ball and not just a super expensive regular Pokeball
You can fix Focus Energy so that instead of making you 1/4 as likely to land critical hits it will be 4X as likely as it was meant to be.
(I don't know)
And just as a joke have Mew appear under that truck like we all thought it would.
Man, your pokédex is amazing. Really amazing. Thanks a lot
Check out volt yellow, its been done
1.) EMERALD LEGACY
2.) Fix the Gym leader teams! (Watson has one Hoenn mon) Also could do some awesome deoxys and jirachi story line
(like the one we all fell for as kids) emerald was one of my first games as a kid and my eternal battery has run dry :,) time based events could be awesome in your legacy version!
Dragon type Sceptile XD
Definitely Playing this after 1.0
Massive congrats on listening to the feedback, this is definitely the best crystal mod as of 2023
Late to the party, but emerald with a visible day night cycle would be incredible.
That pokedex feature is crazy. Mad props to the team
I really loved the fact that I could complete the Pokédex in Crystal Legacy. Red version was my first game but it would probably be more fun under the Yellow storyline to make a similar version possible. That and a Squirtle with sunglasses!
Emerald of course! Also love the way you made the pokedex. This is how they always should've been!
Great job can't wait to finish this
Glad you’re enjoying :$
Keep up the amazing work
Just bought a game boy emulator and i'm currently playing this version! Thank you for making me happy and excited to go back to my favourite gen
Definitely downloading this later this week
