I'm just starting out in eurorack. I'm obsessed with the Buchla style patching, and this is super helpful. I want to maintain a smaller system and stay focused on tone shaping. Cheers!
Sure! In this patch, the 158’s two oscillators ring modulate one another via the A*B+C, and then pass to the uFold II, Optomix, and Pico DSP. The looping Pip Slope modulates the wavefolding depth, and random voltages generated via two sample & holds control a lot of other parameters: clock rate, oscillator pitch, and Pip Slope attack and decay. The Modbox’s skewable output acts as an envelope for the Optomix. That’s the basic idea, though there are obviously a ton of variations possible!
I love this series! I felt like a lot of the previous videos you guys have done needed some explanations towards the end but this is also great at discovered hidden small (and large) hp gems. I'd personally like to see a glitch rig or melody/chord progression rig in 54 hp. Cheers
I've been waiting for a show like this! So cool, I want to make up a small skiff and like to learns what goes well together. Do a random percussive synth!
Transition order-chaos-order from 1:10 to 1:40 was awesome. I think, I'll rip the audio and jam to it... ;-) Thanks a lot for this 54hp series. I think, its a brilliant idea to venture into thess mesoscopic regions; not single modules but also not full blown systems. Like it!
I'd like to see a 54 HP case setup that included some kind of keyboard-style controller in the style of the ones in Buchla's easels. Not necessarily like the western-style keyboard they initially included, white and black keys (or red and silver/black in the Buchla style), but maybe something like their kinesthetic bla-bla-bla something-or-another, the one with the pretty overlapping triangles and outlying hexagons. That'd be nice!
I love the presentation and the clear and concise explanation by Ryan (my go to synth brother! Bar none !)during the performance which is stellar! Is there a possibility of a smaller serge system with a cv to midi and an effects processing module with memory cards that’s stereo out ?and a real stereo headphones out! Too? With iOS native connection? For midi and audio in and out on one cable with the camera connection? Peace 🎶🎶❤️👏🏻🕺🛸🔦👍🏻🙏Christo
We don't know of any iOS native eurorack module that has audio and midi over one usb cable, but there are some usb midi to cv devices that work with iOS. This Endorphin.es system is Serge inspired and can connect to iOS with USB for midi www.perfectcircuitaudio.com/endorphin-es-shuttle-system.html as far as stereo effects with cards the zDSP fits that bill.
What's the use of the first (left) 1U atennuator module? I'm on the phone right now (without headphones) and it's hard to tell (here) for me. :P Its input is connected with the 2nd att output which has... nothing connected to the input...
guys.. help me! tirana ii vs mimetic... I know one is 4 one is 16 step.. one is 6hp and the other is 10hp (or is it 12hp..) anyway, I'd love to see a comparison video or someone explain why one over the other... does tirana do anything mimetic CAN'T do? anyway, thanks for the upload... cheers!
The Tirana II is great for making simple repeating sequences and the Mimetic Digitalis is a great sequencer for finding happy accident sequences, it also has four outputs instead of just one, and is 10hp instead of 6hp.
It's crazy but it's almost as if until you actually have an entire wall of eurorack can you go back and pick the least amount of modules you need to do what you want and build a small setup for yourself. It's hard to just start out with a small system that suits your needs. So much trial and error.
Delightful sounds from the Weasel. Well done.
Fantastic track at the beginning of the video!!!
This 54HP series is excellent

"Comment to let us know what you wanna see in the next episode" - MORE WEST COAST SETUPS!!! :)
Superb little system ! It make me want one of those Catalyst VCO very bad.
That Krell is great. Loved it.
Thanks
Can you explain the patch in depth?

Such a beautiful little beast !
This was really good. Love that opening jam!
first time ive actually been tempted to get into west coast synthesis

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.
Wow you guys are great. I think that I want to put together a portable lunchbox Eurorack setup now.
I've been waiting for a show like this! So cool, I want to make up a small skiff and like to learns what goes well together.
Do a random percussive synth!
Thanks, glad you like the show, we will definitely have a few drum and percussion 54HP cases coming up.
Love the Modbox!
We do too, it provides so much modulation in such a little space.

Have fun jamming to the audio, and we are glad you are liking the show.
Cool! Love this series. Can't wait to see what you guys make next!
Awesome! Thanks for this...
Thanks!
I D LOVE TO SEE A 54 HP SEQUENCED MULTI FX !!!!
Good idea!
You should sell these as a bundle on your site. Preconfigured, built and tested... “like these sounds? Get yours today for a low low price “ :)
buying pre configured setups is kinda not the idea of modular ;)
They do sell these...

A touch controller case is a great idea thanks!
1:38 is the bomb
Wow!
Make a case and centre it round the plaits and the chronoblob, absolute killer combo
Good idea, a multiple Plaits system could be fun as well.
add at least one Maths to it
Thanks for making this. I am new to eurorack and still trying to figure out what is exactly that I need for sound that I want.
WOOO GOOD JOB !
Would love to see what kind of ambient machine you could put together. I've got a 42hp ambient lunchbox currently in the works.
Love this!
Thanks, we are working on an ambient setup coming up soon in this series!
3:24 Two giant octopuses strangling the sinking modular box...
🐙🐙
This is my fav 54HP video. How are you controlling the drone pitch?
The drone pitch is being controlled with a constant voltage run through an attenuator. Glad you liked the video thanks!
thats perfect
More 54hp!
I know it's been a long time ago but any chance to explain your variation of the Krell patch? It sounds insane
I love the presentation and the clear and concise explanation by Ryan (my go to synth brother! Bar none !)during the performance which is stellar! Perfect Circuit Audio thanks for the info! A serge clone System would be nice too. Peace 🎶🎶🎶🎶☠️☠️☠️👽👽🐕🐕🛸🔦✌🏻👍🏻🕺Christo
Are all these modules still available?
A bass and percussion system based around a sequencer and modules like the NE BIA
Thanks for the suggestion.

would like to see this small 54HP playing with a VCO + 4ms DLD + Pitssburgh's MOD toolbox
ambient!!!
Jackson Fell yes this please. Reverb and delay.
What are those 1u modules along the bottom?
Pulp Logic cyclic skew, S&H, atteuverter, attenuator/offset, VCA and 3 channel mixer.
Mixer / mult etc . ...And a sample and hold...looks like Peace 🎶🙏👽❤️👍🏻🕺🛸🔦🛸👏🏻✌🏻christo
The dread box modular has a similar row of mixers and atinuators along the bottom too! Peace Christo
FYI the link for the catalyst audio model 158 is wrong.
Thanks for the heads up, we fixed that.
How about a 54 hp drum machine with no module bigger than 2 hp?
That would be a lot of small modules.
27 to be precise

Annihilation.
Mmmmm
Generative ambient machine
That is coming up soon in the series!
Make one that plays real music instead of hippy dippy noise. Jk do a sequenced multi fx like the other guy said
