I never heard of Jason before but I really liked this interview. I like his calm and engaging convo. I found myself falling down the Google rabbit hole..lol Thanks Trevor for introducing him to me. Keep up the great work. Thanks for making me laugh and educating at the same time. 💜
If you've never known of Jason before but decided to get I to him now then beware... there are some moments in songs that will break your heart into a billion pieces. See Elephant and If We Were Vampires.
I became a JI fan after a Fresh Air interview years ago. Rare for me to find new music by liking the person THEN the music. But that's how it happened and now his music is at the top of my list.
This is FANTASTIC!!! I got booted from Twitter b/c I got in a heated debate with Stephen A. Smith @ ESPN, so I can't tweet @ Mr. Isbell....perhaps he will read this comment :) First, everything about this interview is impeccable. The mutual humor and respect in this exchange is a delight. Second, I love that Jason intentionally pruned his fanbase thru Twitter. Many (most?) artists are cautious not to offend. Kudos to Mr. Isbell for being true to himself and in turn, trusting his audience would remain. Lastly, I see so much of his daughter, Mercy, in him in this appearance, especially around his eyes. From the limited evidence available online for the public to observe, he and Ms. Shires appear to be raising a lovely, smart, self-confident human. And when all is said and done, even given the brilliance of his work, that may be what he ends up being most proud of in the long run. Thanks for hosting him today. He's a keeper!
"We said 'cover' when I was growing up." It's probably related to the fact that, in the US, we call the subject "math," but in the British Isles, they call it "maths."
I was debating on using “cover me up” for the first dance at my fiancé and I’s wedding, now I’m definitely using it. “Vampires” is a great song as well, but I guess it’s a bit dark for a first dance…
I have lived in Georgia for decades and I do not know this man. I guess because he's from Alabama and I don't listen to country. I heard REM and Indigo Girls. Most people would do Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, Otis Redding, Black Crowes, Allman Bros, Jason Aldean, Alan Jackson, Luke Bryan, Zac Brown Band. He'd be a legend if he tired Manchester Orchestra, Outkast, Run the Jewels, Sevendust, Mastodon, Deerhunter, Drivin n Cryin, Marvelous 3, Goodie Mob, or Ludacris. And B-52s would just be hilarious.
He’s usually categorized Americana as opposed to country or folk. (e.g. Grammys, Americana Music Awards) Although, he has been an artist-in-residence at the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum and is a regular at Newport Folk Festival.
In addition to REM and Indigo Girls, Georgia Blue does have Gladys Knight, Otis Redding, Black Crowes, Allman Brothers, and Drivin N Cryin covers, as well as James Brown, Cat Power, Precious Bryant, Now It’s Overhead, and Vic Chesnutt.
He is an ultra talented singer, songwriter, and guitar player; however, he has, like so many who have acquired a modicum of fame, become just a tad bit woke and sanctimonious, and much to the chagrin of his original fan base.
I agree! IF our “ trusted servants” had taken the pandemic seriously from the “get go”, instead of deciding it was a personal attack on one man’s political bs, the climate might be a whole lot different…

His guitar playing is only overshadowed by his singing and songwriting, which are only overshadowed by his Twitter game. He's a great all-around dude.

@Denise Higgins oh, you’re in for a beautiful ride. The man has empathy. He’s a realist.

Love it. I have loved his music for a long time but I respect his consistency of message and his lack of f***s even more.
Loved Jason since he was in the Truckers. I loved him when he left. He's the real deal
Yes he is.
Love seeing Jason Isbell, he’s such a genuine talent. 💚
Kudos to Jason for taking a stand. I hope not too many people lie about their vax status to get in the show.
They check! I had to show card and ID
I don't think they will. Why pay for the card when you can get it for free?
@@Cuemom that’s so great to hear! I’m going in December and I can’t wait!
Never knew about this artist but he sounds like someone I need to check out

I cannot wait to buy this album 😍😍
Great interview! We look forward to seeing you at Muscle (Mussel) Shoals!
Hello Alsayegh, how are you doing
Two of my favourite people living in the USA at one table - fantastic
I like Jason’s all black outfit. Trevor’s sweatshirts are cute too
Fantastic!
This man. ❤️ He is the Stacey Abrams of humanity. He wants us to DO BETTER.
What do you mean?
hey Trevor ... would like to know whereabouts of South Africa as I've seen in the news that there're riots going on... can you cover this up?
I LOVE JASON ISBELL!
Yup, I’ve waited long enough. Imma hop on the Isbell train, now! There’s a man with integrity.
I don't think I know of Jason isbell maybe I've heard a country song by him and didn't realize I'm not sure but he's a pretty chill dude
I never heard of him but, I'm going to buy his album! Great interview!
Pruning. That's what he does.
I could watch these guys allllll day!

Nah it’s beautiful. Life is real. One of you will die. Its about your life together and how beautiful you want that to be, together.
Any love song by Jason is gonna be perfect. Cheers and congrats!

I would call him more folk than country

Outkast is literally one of his favorite groups. lol.
The entertainment industry is worth how much in billions? Who was making decisions for them before COVID? How can they fail to adapt to the times now?
Never heard of this gentleman.

Saw Jason at one of his Austin shows to rehearse for the ACL show recording. Saw folks get turned away, no scenes, wonderful show. Great show!
Dude, Trevor, we say things how we like down south. And it sounds better. Get over it sweetie.
The best

👏🎶💕
Most people use shears to prune, Jason uses his words! I like that.

Wow! Trevor interviews a white person!
It says all you need to know when someone would appear with an affirmative action hire. Let’s Go Brandon!!! MAGA!!
