- Hey everyone! In this video I go over some photos in Lightroom which were taken with my new Konica IIIA on my favorite 35mm black and white film downtown Dallas. This was the first roll I ran through it. The Konica IIIA is an absolute shooter and I couldn't be more happy with the results.
I've bought the camera from a gentleman called Jeff Guthrie from Japan Vintage Camera. I can strongly recommend him because he fully overhauls all his cameras. He sells both on eBay and on Etsy. I hope you enjoy the video guys!

Hey thanks so much! These where all developed in Ilford DDX which does most of the heavy lifting for you. Especially in combination with Ilford FP4 Plus.

@@TheFilmFellow Your photos are so precisely exposed! May I ask you - do you normally use LV ring on Konica 3A to set up correct exposure or you have it disabled? Also, how you adjust your EV-LV settings for Ilford FP4? It has ISO125 while LV parameters normally assume either ISO100 or ISO400. For example, if a lightmeter says that the LV ring should be set up for 13 (at ISO100) - what would be your adjustments for FP4?
On my copy the EV ring has been decoupled so I use my Sekonic L308s to meter the scene which give me a combination of a shutter speed and aperture for ISO 125. If the aperture is lets say a 13 I usually choose 11 which is just a little overexposure which never hurts. Thank you for your nice compliment.

The images look great! I can't wait for mine to arrive. How would you see the camera feels in the hand? I've heard it's heavy. Did it feel like it was front heavy? Also how did you like the viewfinder while out shooting?
Thanks for watching! The camera is not front heavy at all. I’m used to big cameras and although this camera is definitely on the more heavy side it’s not that heavy to me. Build quality is second to none in my opinion. Mine did receive a full overhaul, i.e. a full CLA because I bought it as a shooter so my viewfinder is clear, bright and the focus is spot on. It’s just a sheer joy to use.

It actually arrived this morning so I put a roll through it. So easy to focus and not too heavy. That being said, I found the coupled aperture and shutter speed ring to be super annoying, which is what a lot of people mentioned in reviews. I'll definitely be doing the mod to decouple them.
Glad you have it! Yes, it’s an easy mod to decouple the rings. Mine was already decoupled when it came in. There is a video on RUclips about it. Only takes 20 minutes or so but you do need the correct tools.

May I ask What’s the setting for the first flash shot , thank you
Absolutely. So the actual settings on the camera were F8 @ 1/250. The flash I used was an old Metz flash with a fixed guide number of 21 so adjust setting with aperture or your feet. I did use a small dome diffuser to soften the light a tad but growing up on indoor flash photography I kinda like that look. Thanks so much for watching.
