"RUclips channel dedicated to the passion of film photography and nowadays street photography." - Davy Bruyninckx
These days I primarily like to shoot black & white film stocks, in particular Ilford FP4 Plus which is my very favorite black & white film stock, both in 35mm and 120 roll film. These days I have come to really appreciate spending some quality time with my enlarger creating some fine-tuned silver gelatin darkroom prints. These days I have also discovered that somewhere inside me lay a dormant street photographer for 43 years whom just needed to pick up his Nikon FE and hit those streets of downtown Dallas. Yes, these days, maybe even more so than ever I celebrate my passion for film photography and some of that I love sharing with you in my videos.

Street Photography With The Konica IIIA & FujiFilm 400...
Hey everyone! I hope everybody is doing great and that you got through this scorcher of a summer safe and productive.
Personally I did not do a whole lot of 35mm street photography purely because indeed in Texas the temps get very high. We get triple digits here so during July and August I tend to take a bit of a break from 35mm street photography and I must admit I kinda enjoy that.
It gives me a small window to take stock of my photography and really reflect on areas which are in need of growth.
That is mostly what I talk to you about in this video and I do hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed making it.

Hey everyone! In this video I shoot Kodak Portra 800 literally for the first time and I totally love it as an 800 speed, 35mm street photography film and in particular for night time photography. Coming with the Portra moniker brings heaps of hype and let me tell you this film did not disappoint. It's sharp, it's grain is incredibly well controlled for an 800 speed, 35mm film and its skin tones...

Hey everyone! I hope y'all are doing great! In this video I hit the streets armed with my Konica IIIA and Fujifilm 200. After having shot a lot of Kodak Vision3 35mm films I feel that it's healthy to switch up 35mm films every now and then just to keep your street photography exciting. FujiFilm 200 is certainly a familiar street photography film to me and I truly enjoy shooting it. It has a gre...

I have the F4 and F90x with the 20mm 2.8, which is a challenge for me as I like shooting with the 85 mmor 50mm for street use.
One big flaw is that the shutter is fragile. Not as fragile as the horizontal curtain shutter in the f-f3 cameras but still an issue in the 2020s.

Awesome shots! Portra never disappoints. The way it captures warmth and detail is truly unique. There’s a special magic to film that’s hard to replicate. Fantastic work!
Completely agree! Portra is a phenomenal street film. Especially the 800 speed version I’ve been very impressed with lately. It indeed has a magic to it. Lovely film. Thanks so much for your kind words and for watching 🙏🏽
Very true. Really love this gentlemans approach. So kind and warm.
Thank you for your kind words and for watching. It’s very much appreciated 🙏🏽
U have a very humble approach sir. Good video 😊
Thank you so much. I try to be as respectful as I can out on the streets because once you’ve chosen a certain location as the subject for your street photography project which means I’m there a whole lot so you start to become a little known locally which means I’d like to be known for all the right reasons. I still have so much to learn and to explore though. Thank you so much for your very kind words 👍🏽
Hi, do you know what konihood fits a 48mm/f2 Konica III lens? Where can I buy one? Thank you.
If I’m not mistaken Konica only made one Konihood but there is a step up ring so the hood can be used both on the 48mm and 50mm lenses which of course have different outer diameters. www.ebay.com/itm/405268422283?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ckczcl6sq_u&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=HOLIYS1NQd-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Hi, do you know what konihood fits a 48mm/f2 Konica III lens? Thank you.
www.dantestella.com/technical/koni3.html
@@TheFilmFellow Thank you for the link. Do you know where I could buy one?
Where could I buy a hood for my f2,4/48 mm Konica III?
I bought mine on EBay. I’m almost convinced they have one for the 48mm lens. The 48mm F2 has a 35.5mm filter thread so you’d have to find a vented hood for that or hunt down the original Konihood which I have as well.
Hi, where did you buy your Konica hood? what's the diameter in millimeters? Thanks.
The hood that you see in my videos I bought on EBay. It’s 43mm for the 50mm version. The 48mm IIIA will have a smaller diameter.
@@TheFilmFellow Thanks for your reply.
Vivitar 283 best flash gun ever made. I have a collection of these vintage flash guns and all work perfectly. They work great with cheap ebay flash triggers that allow you to use the flash off camera, avoiding the high voltage that can be produced by these vintage units from damaging digital cameras. Fitted with eneloop rechargeable batteries you can get a good amount of flashes due to the excellent internal battery saver circuitry, not like some of the modern flash guns of today.
Completely agree the 283 is a phenomenon flashgun. It still holds its own even against modern flash units. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi, quick question; how is the battery life for the FE2 ? How often do they need to be replaced, roughly / in estimates.. ? Like what number of film rolls, months, etc ?
Hi with a camera without battery issues the two LR44s should last you at least a year if not longer. This camera is seriously efficient with its battery life and a strip of LR44s is easily tucked away in any camera bag. I shoot about a roll of 35mm every week and I’ve never changed the batteries ever since I bought my FE2 about 2 years ago. This is as good as it gets in my humble opinion next to having a fully mechanical camera. Thanks so much for watching.
First video I've gone right through without feeling patronised. Very interesting content.
Hey thanks so much! That’s a very kind compliment.
i like your approach and the use of flash .. working on my street photography confidence lol keep shootin
Thank you for your nice compliments! I’m starting to rely more and more on flash for both practical reasons and aesthetic reasons. It’s also a really fun way of achieving an image and safe for literally shoving the camera and flash into someone’s face most folks don’t really mind the use of flash. I would say the same to you, keep shooting and your confidence will grow each and every time you’re out there. Thank so much for watching.
You mentioned in your video that you were going to send the FA to be CLA’d. Who do you use? I have a fungus issue on the inside of the eyepiece lens and I’m looking for a shop that can clean it for me. Thank you. Great video and camera.
I’ve actually never ended up sending it in for a CLA and I’ve long since sold my FA. I really got heavily into my Konica IIIA which is an all-mechanical beauty which I CLA myself. I know there are stil some guys out there. You might have to do some research depending on where you live and ask the tech the right questions. The FA is a wonderful camera. I’m going to buy one again at some point in the future. I do believe that eye piece screws right off for cleaning. Thanks so much for watching.
I have FE2 and I can’t use it on the streets. She shutter is rediculously loud for staying unnoticed. But that’s my style :) I love how you describe photography as a record of time.
The FE2 is definitely somewhat louder and indeed we each have to decide whether or not it works for us. For me it does because the place I shoot, Deep Ellum is plenty loud on its own and most folks just don’t care. At least in my experience. But nothing beats my Konica IIIA. I once shot behind a guy with the camera about 3 feet away from his ear and he didnt flinch after I took the shot. The Konica IIIA is phenomenal. Thank you for your kind words.
What lens hood are you using? Thinking of getting ine for my Konica iii but i cant figure out the diameter for it

I just love these street photography videos with flash. Talk more about settings, teach us things!
Glad you love the videos with flash. I most definitely love adding flash to my street photography. I can definitely include some settings and talk about that in the video. I usually tend to not complicate things when it comes to using flash. Thanks so much for watching.
My Deaf, Sir; I have followed your videos on and off, it is always a pleasure to see them and you as well. I love the passion you bring about on your reviews as well as your personal inside which to me flows like wisdom. I too am in love with medium format, the 120 film. I have always used 35 mm film and camera. Soon, it will be Mamiya 645. Although, I am torn between this fine camera and the Zenza Bronnica. I guess its just me. But, I do want to say, Thank You... I do love your photos which you share with us all. God Bless you and your loved ones too. Mr. Roger.
Hi Roger thank you so much for your kind words! In all honesty I don’t think you can go wrong with either one of these cameras. The big reason I bought the Mamiya 645 Pro TL is because it has TTL flash. I know some of the Zenza’s are completely mechanical so that’s a big plus but I have to say that I truly love the results I get from my Mamiya and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone. I’ve shot 35mm for 2 decades before I even bought my first medium format camera. I still mostly shoot 35mm but I totally love 645. Let me know what you ended up getting and thanks so much for watching.
@@TheFilmFellow With all my heart I thank you sir. God Bless you always...

I am a sucker for mechanical cameras. However, one of the disadvantages of mechanical cameras is that it is not as accurate as electronically controlled shutters of they are not calibrated back to factory specs which most of these cameras are.

Hi Kim thank you so much for your very kind words. I’ve cheated a little because a few years ago I worked a job which brought me Downtown Dallas a lot and as a consequence my confidence to talk to strangers grew. The rest comes with shooting frequently. Now has become second nature. Thanks so much for watching.
💯🇹🇷⭐️👍 I have 1 of this F3 device, it is very clean, it is for sale, if anyone is interested, there is a video on my RUclips channel.
One fixed focal lens forces you to think. I once did very well when I put on the wrong lens (so I thought) for a parade. It then went very well because I had no time to change lens! I was never that creative before! 45m is a good choice if 35 seems wide for you. 35 is the lower bound and 45 is the upper bound. Therefore there were 37mm, 39mm, 40mm, 42mm film cameras in the past in between 35 and 45.
Most definitely my sweet spot is somewhere between 45mm and 35mm. I’ve been shooting with a 50 out on the streets for a few years now and although I love it for portraits, it’s a little too tight for the rest of what I’d like to shoot. It’s workable, but tight. I do love the 50 for street photography thought. A few months ago I switched to a 35mm lens for street after shooting with the 50 for years and although there was a small learning curve I pretty much took right to it. Some say the difference between a 50 and a 35 is negligible but I beg to differ. It changes the way you think and therefore how you shoot. Right now I’m very interested in shooting with a 40mm lens. The Voïgtlander 40 F2 is on my mind in the pursuit of the “perfect” all day, every day street lens. Still very much learning to find my path and street signature if you will but that process in itself is also very rewarding. Thanks so much for watching.
Lots of activity and characters! 😁
Hey Hashem! Good to hear from you in my little corner of this RUclips world. Yes, it is Crazy Town in Deep Ellum but that’s its major attraction to me, most definitely to the point of obsession. It’s where photographically I find my solace. Haven’t quite figured out exactly how to represent it adequately but that pursuit is as much the goal as the end goal I have in mind. Thanks so much for watching.
@@TheFilmFellow That's cool man... a whole different vibe to the streets here!
@@pushingfilm I think that’s the charm of every place. By the looks of your photos you’re definitely making the most of it. Melbourne does seem like a place with tons of opportunities. I do feel I’ve reached a bit of a plateau. I’m very much interested in the individual character but I’d like to gravitate towards photos with multiple people in it. Sort of Alex Webb. They’re not easy but so rewarding.
@@TheFilmFellow It is! Every place is unique in its own way. Yeah when you nail those shots they really pay off 🙂
I love flash photography. I know not everyone is into that but I love it. Great shots!
Hey thanks so much! Yes it’s not for everyone but I personally really love flash photography. I think a lot of people an intimated by flash photography but it’s so easy. Thank you for your kind words and for watching!
I have an FE2, I love street photography and I very much enjoyed your video. Thank you............
Hey thanks so much! Yes lately the FE2 has been my favorite companion out on the streets. It’s just a great camera that delivers quality and a fantastic shooting experience. Glad you’ve enjoyed the video and thanks so much for watching!
Yes I love my PRO too, though sure it is a little heavy. And (confession) I have a beautiful M645 (no removable back( Of course it's film, I'd love a digital back for it, but that's another couple of grand. Would it be THAT much better than my Nikon D90 digital? I wonder...
I wouldn’t mind a digital back for my Mamiya neither but they are so darn expensive. I do think the analog photos that come from this camera are excellent as it is. Thanks so much for watching.
Really nice setup. Using a flash on a fantastic camera with a central shutter must be absolutely great. Flash on all shutterspeeds, man!! Fill-in flash in broad daylight will be great. Then you get the experience with the rangefinder in the IIIa as well. Is there any better 1:1 finder on this earth..?
Thank you for your very nice comment. I do believe that when it comes to rangefinders there is no better viewfinder than the Konica IIIA. The engineers of that day really put a lot of thought into it and you can see that this camera was designed as a direct competitor to the Leica M3. Most cameras with a hinged door will feel a tad cheap due to the poor design of the hinge but with the Konica IIIA it feels as if the camera and door are welded together. The build quality and image quality are just second to none and the ability to indeed sync flash all the way up to 1/500 is nothing short of amazing. Thanks so much for watching.
Great review, my mom gifted me a three-roll package the other day, and that gives me an idea of what I can expect, I actually find it between UltraMax and Vision 250D, althought less "blue"
No it doesn't
Even though I’ve tested this in practice, and yes there’s differences between copies, don’t take my word on it but read Ken Rockwell’s words on it. Scroll down all the way to where is says “Above 1/1000”! He claims 1/8000 even. Mine goes comfortably to 1/4000! www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/fe.htm
@@TheFilmFellow I’ve checked , yes KR does say this, but would like to hear it from Nikon or one of the photography magazines
You’re never gonna hear that from Nikon simply because of the Nikon FE2 and because the FE isn’t marketed as such. Get yourself an FE and test is yourself. You’ll see.
Thank you for this overview regarding the Nikon Fa, your pictures are an AWESOME testament to the Nikon cameras and their legendary Nikkor lenses. please post more or share a link to where we can see them all, they are very inspirational, much respect and Love from the U.K 🙂😇🥰
What a really wonderful comment. The Nikon FA is indeed a camera which allows you to take just about any photo you want and certainly the Nikkor lenses are as sharp as you need them to be. They’re very underrated. Perhaps they lack some exoticness but they are fit for any job. A lot of my photography you’ll find on my IG @thefilmfellow. These days I do shoot with my FE2 but with essentially the same 50mm 1.8. Thanks so much for watching and for your wonderful comment.

The MD15 really brings the Nikon FA alive. I’ve shot with it in that form factor for quite a while. Fujifilm 200= Kodak Gold 200 Fujifilm 400= Kodak Ultramax 400
You know a lot of folks swear that FujiFilm 400 is Ultramax but in my experience it looks different from Ultramax. Especially when I switched from developing with Blix to a kit which has a separate bleach and fixer step these differences were underscored exceedingly. The characteristic curves are also different between the 2 films which at the point of making this video I definitely wasn’t privy to. Another aspect which most definitely allows me to draw this conclusion is I’ve been scanning my negatives with the same scanner and software for 7 years now so it’s easy for me to pick up on small differences. I feel that when the film was released initially labs just scanned this film with an Ultramax preset for lack of any other reference points. Reference point I do have in my workflow. All things considered I do believe this is not Ultramax. Skin tones, hues, grain, sharpness, color rendering/fidelity and contrast are all different in my workflow. Thanks so much for watching.
@@TheFilmFellow I do agree with you on that tho. But I’ve seen some scans of Fujifilm 400 and it comes very close to ultramax imo. But I do believe you, especially if you develop and scanning your own film, unlike me who have zero experience in developing and scanning haha. Also I’ve never tried this film stock so maybe I should try and see for myself if it differs from others. But I respect your opinion🙏🏻 maybe I should start learning how to develop and scanning myself haha.

Hey qq! Does the autofocus and aperture work on this body? Because the lens is new on my F60 all the new lenses don't work properly so I was wondering whether f100 supports them
The F100 supports all modern lenses. It even supports VR! It even meters with AI and AIs manual focus lenses although in center-weighting mode. It even has the exact same CAM 1300 focus module as the F5. You’ll have no issue with any lenses on the F100. You won’t regret buying one. Thank you for watching.
@@TheFilmFellow thank you for the detailed explanation. The only reason why I'd want F6 is because I really want this data imprint so badly. F6 has integrated data imprint so it prints the shutter speed/aperture on the film after each frame. Otherwise F100 seems like a far better deal in my opinion. I hope I can find a good one soon :)
Do you have any experience with Tamron 28-70 zoom on F100?
Unfortunately not. I’m not really a zoom lens guy.
film roll used thks
It’s a mix between FP4 Plus and XP2 Super. Two of my favorite black and white films. Thanks so much for watching.
Hi, I was just wondering where you bought the vented hood for the Konica iiia? Thanks
Hi I bought it on EBay. I literally just typed 43mm vented hood and I got some results. This is that link: www.ebay.com/itm/263071739493?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=zQwOvo97RGm&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=HOLIYS1NQd-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Simplicity is such a great feature in a camera. You’ve convinced me to buy one.
Yes one of the best aspects about this camera is its simplicity. It does what it has to do therefore incredibly well. Congrats on your purchase and I think you’ll enjoy shooting it.
Please tell your cousin Danielle we miss her RUclips channel ❤I miss her tremendously 😢
I truly wish I could! Unfortunately, our dear cousin, my little dear cousin is no longer with us. That is why you haven’t seen any new uploads. She has touched many hearts through her RUclips channel and I hope that through her past videos she can still offer you some comfort in your needs in life. Live life well, it’s what she would have wanted.
@@TheFilmFellow oh my gosh 😳no way 💔😢I assumed she was taking a long break 😢😢 I am so so sorry to you and your family 🙏🏾😢💔this is truly heartbreaking
Door latch and rewind fork are plastic and do break . This was never a professional camera . Look at F90x and F5
I would respectfully disagree. The F100 although marketed as prosumer can certainly be used for professional purposes and to reduce this camera to the rewind fork and door latch issue is not all the way fair. Nikon did replace the forks for free back in the day so there are plenty of copies with the updated forks and the ones with the original fork have made it this far. If you take care of the door latch, yes I would have rather seen a metal one, it will take care of you.
@@TheFilmFellow on Nikons website at the time F90x was marketed as professional . Where as the F100 was never marketed as professional alongside the F5 and F3 . I’m only going by Nikon strategy. When the F100 was released first thing I noticed was the ommision of the viewfinder blind.

Loved this camera in the 80’s but went for a contax, just bought one now and love it
Super underrated camera and as reliable as I don’t what. A real workhorse.
Good video man. That photo of the gentleman that turned it around was great indeed. Well done.
Hey thanks so much. Yes the photo of Squirrel, although maybe not the most interesting photo for the masses is certainly my favorite one of the day. It’s photos that really matter that makes your time time spent well out there. Thanks so much for watching.
The IIIA is a beautiful work of art in itself. I own a IIIA, III and IIA . I'm absolutely blown away with the form, function and feelings of using these vintage cameras. I would stack these Konica models against anything else on the market. Nice work.
Thanks so much! Yes especially the Konica IIIA when it comes to the 50mm rangefinder camera experience this camera is truly second to none both in shooting experience and results. It’s truly one of the most amazing pieces of camera artwork ever made. It’s absolutely in a league of its own and I don’t think something like this will ever be done again. Plus, I could go on and on about that 50mm lens but I recommend to anyone and everyone to just get one and get it from Jeffrey Guthrie. Thanks so much for watching.
I recently bought one of these with a "broken shutter" for a cheap price. I was hoping it would just be the usual sticky shutter blades. Unfortunately though, one of the tiny springs in the shutter mechanism is completely mangled and another spring appears to be missing. Damn it!
I’m very sorry to hear that. I’m absolutely sure that Jeffrey Guthrie can repair it for you. Or get one that’s cheap with a working lens and swap the lens. You’ll love the Konica IIIA. It’s such a gem.
@TheFilmFellow Thank you. I knew the risk I was taking when I bought it, so I'll have to take it on the chin. Professional services are so expensive (understandably so), so I won't rush into that, but thank you for the name. As I'm sure you know, these things are pretty hard to come by, even broken ones, but I'll keep my eyes peeled for possible parts donors. You are right, they are wonderful cameras. I'd heard all about the viewfinder, but I was still amazed when I looked through it. With my left eye open, it's like having a head up display built into my right eye 😄.
