He obviously learned to ignore the critics because he has now written 5 books. I think ppl who call a writer pretentious are just jealous. Writing a book is extremely time consuming and requires huge effort to complete just one. There is generally little financial gain from it. It’s a real passion project.
@@RiversBliss It's absolutely this. It's this mentality of, "We followed the cautionary tales and didn't do what we wanted, so you should have to as well."
Jealous, scared and unmotivated people are usually quick to criticize! Unfortunately, often times, they’re more disappointed in themselves for not trying! We all need to realize we come from different places where encouragement and support aren’t the norm! Practice Common Kindness!❤️
Dude you don't need someone to respond to you because they have higher interest. It's quite impolite to ask another stranger in the common section how they feel about this person to that person. Be thankful that they show some compassion to one of their favorite celebrities
I fell in love with Ethan when I saw him in Before Sunrise. That movie is probably the most honest to goodness movies that can toss you up and make you look at things in different ways and then make you realize you’re just starting your journey even though you’ve probably been half way through life. I read his first novel when he first released it and realized what I loved about Ethan in that first movie I saw was being confirmed by how he wrote. One of my most watched movies in my collection is Great Expectations where he plays Fin, the artist. I don’t like seeing him play the villain simply because his aura is just not befitting a villain character. Although Taking Lives was one of his best performances. Recently I’ve rewatched a bunch of his movies, maybe that’s why the algorithm brought this video to the surface. It’s awesome having my initial impressions of Ethan being reconfirmed. Now I have to re-read his novels.
People are scared or fearful of others success. It highlights the fact they have not reached their full potential. It's such a shame really, we should be applauding each other's success and looking at it like, yes, I can have success too.
Brian Briggs also, undermining an artists’ success instead of supporting is the pinnacle of jealous pretension. Ethan has done incredibly well, and puts work into performances, do you think people care about your snide RUclips comments? Or is this some sort of coping mechanism for your past failures. Talk to me man.
“Hymen” etymologically just means membrane, and as a word it has a history in French poetry and philosophy as a de-anatomized metaphor/figure with a lot of productive and recalcitrant connotations. Hawke said “for lack of a better word” but likely he was drawing from his reading there. It’s a legit word for this context is all I’m saying.
@@hypostatics9475 That makes sense. But there's plenty of words and phrases that are technically appropriate in a lot of situations that will just make people uncomfortable.

easier to destroy than it is to create... i think that's the quotee
I agree, I think the negativity and viciousness arises from jealousy and projection of the individuals who failed to try themselves.
Why are we so quick to tear each other down? Is it our own fears?
You're the weak link here not me, this guy.
It's fun
It's the fear to see someone you know succeed and climb up to a place you were told was just a pipe dream. Narcissism plays a part.
Quality control

Same here. :)

Exactly 💯
Yoda: You will be. You will be.
Ethan Hawke is one of the reasons I am making progress in therapy. I am thankful for that
Would you mind elaborating on that? I'm quite intrigued and honestly moved by your comment.

Great guy to listen to.
Recently received a lot of youtuber hate, this was great to hear. Thx for the upload.
Thank you for sharing this! I had no idea Ethan Hawke was also a writer. I immediately sought out a copy of The Hottest State after watching this.
If I remember correctly, the novel he ended up publishing had a movie adaptation.
the way his chair lines up with the set’s back corner is oddly very distracting
A true artist. The Hottest State is one of the most underrated romances. Go read it or watch it.

Ethan. You’re the best. Inspiring, my friend
I love him

The more I listen to him talk the more I hear Jesse. 🤗
Wow that's great nobody wants to be pretentious over something so menial and easy as acting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brian Briggs you think Acting is easy, please, where can I see your performances?
@@MalcolmJCowie That's the reaction if a pretentious person !
Brian Briggs is that your reply though? I genuinely want to see your work.

Brian Briggs Nice to see you’ve gone quiet, you used to give such prompt responses.
I literally just came to say
i like turtles
A hymen analogy? Jesus Christ lmao, why couldn't you just say barrier
"For lack of a better expression"
I can think of about 17 better analogies than a fucking hymen.
"Bro, can you drive into the car park?"
"Can't sorry. There's a hymen in the way"

This clip has NO VOLUME. I haven't got the patience to figure it out. Can you 'pump up the volume ?
