- A 36 year old Ethan Hawke talks about his career as an actor from "Explorers" (1985) and “Dead Poets Society” (1989) through "Reality Bites" (1994), "Before Sunrise" (1995), “Gattaca” (1997), “Great Expectations” (1998), “Hamlet” (2000), Training Day (2001), "Before Sunset" (2004), "Assault on Precinct 13" (2005) and 'Lord of War (2005). He describes his collaborations with Peter Weir, Richard Linklater, Andrew Niccol, Alfonso Cuarón and Michael Almereyda, his wariness of fame at a young age, the effect of the loss of River Phoenix, the traps of typecasting, the terror of talk shows, how Denzel Washington eats actors for breakfast, Dylan Thomas, and why he writes and directs.
I never wanted this interview to end. I feel like Ethan Hawke had tapped into his very soul and what came out of it was beautiful honesty. I would love to spend an evening with him over dinner, just to have an honest conversation about life, the universe and everything.
I love how honest he is, no false modesty
Dead Poet's Society is a masterpiece. As an Australian we are proud to lay claim to the genius that is Peter Weir. Gattaca is a stunning film with a beautiful soundtrack. Reality Bites spoke to this Gen Xer in her first year as a teacher wondering what my purpose and path was. The Sunrise Trilogy is fantastic. I have also read Ethan's novels and he is a humorous and thoughtful writer. Love him and his thoughtful, honest, considered responses!
these iterviews are pure golden, thank you for sharing them.

Still love this guy for his role in Dead Poets Society, he won me over for life

❤️ Ethan Hawke!! Very deep actor and talented too!!
Always liked E. Great footage. Need to check out Gattica. Thanks.
I just adore him
What a great interview, what a great man.
13:55 interviewer asks Hawke earlier what Gen X is; 5 minutes later Hawke nails the Gen X attitude with this statement, which, not accidentally, mirrors the very attitude the film tries to convey. Life imitating art imitating life
excellent 👍🏼
Ethan it's not jealousy. It's major disappointment in some industries.
I think he is a great actor, but this would seem a good moment for him to take a slight break from the "Hollywood Candy".
Oh realaeyyy??
