Oh, definitely, Taylor sang this song pretty well, IMO. Though if you'd told him that, he would've said something along the lines of, "Ah, it's nothing amazing; I really think could've done it better. Hell, Dave could've done it better." That's the kind of person Taylor Hawkins was, y'know? He was the kind of person who'd heap praise on another artist, and then call himself "ordinary" despite people telling him of how extraordinary he was.

Yep, it was an Andy Gibb single, written by Andy and his bros. Barry sang backup vocals. No mistaking his falsetto. I LOVE that the FFs are covering these songs - both Andy as a solo artist and the BeeGees. Must be so much fun for them!

Barry Gibb is truly one of the greatest songwriters of all time. His style can be recognized even when it isn’t him singing the song, see Islands in the Stream and Grease as examples. Such a distinctive sense of melody and harmony.
Robin Gibb was actually the most prolific song writer of the brothers, a workaholic who couldn't switch off to the detriment of his health 😞
Barry is officially the 2nd most prolific and successful song writer in history - after Paul McCartney.

I don't know what it is about Bee Gees songs. They just make you smile. 10 years ago people would have made fun of the foos doing a Bee Gees cover album. But it's 2021 and people just want a reason to smile again. 😊

I'm so glad we got this on vinyl - only 12,000 copies made. I got to meet Dave at 18 years old. My gf and I, at the time, didn't have tickets to even get into the show... FF's tour manager, Gus, saw us outside the show, said "come with me" (I thought we were going to be in trouble for loitering - I didn't know who this guy was at the time)... We go to the side of the venue, and he gives us wrist bands, we are in the show for free (I literally only had $10 in my bank account - no joke - 100% only had ten dollars). Show ends, Taylor throws drum stick... Lands right in front of me, and I grab it. Craziest night... After that KROQ people leave the back stage area [upstairs house of blues], give us their back stage passes. Coolest night ever [ 02/02/02 ] I'm a foo fighters fan for life. Thanks FF, thanks Gus, thanks for supporting record stores, thanks for being good people with good values. Love this album, it was worth staying up all night for. ♥️ Love you guys.
Fantastic story. Did they play any songs from One by One? That album came out eight months later. It is a seminal favorite of mine.
@@murray1978 Aww, thanks man. They very well might have. I vaguely remember hearing a song or two that was brand new. I imagine some of the live stuff they also maybe played songs live that maybe didn't make it to album, but if smart phones existed back then we would likely have a better record of all that. When One by one came out, they're was a DVD also... "All my life" on the DVD was mixed in 5.1, and I remember ripping the AC3 (from the DVD) into separate audio tracks. The beginning of the song had Dave's voice soloed on the center channel, guitar chunking on the front left, and front right channel. It blew me away listening to the separate channels. It's a bummer that 5.1 mixes didn't become more of a standard. It was really really interesting to listen to back then. 🙂

I remember meeting Taylor - he was so nice to me. 💔 It has not been a great couple of weeks, and my heart breaks for all the people he was closest to. A friend of mine just told me yesterday that he met Taylor also - same story, a really nice, and really cool person.

I LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!! Taylor's voice is beautiful and the backup singers with Dave blending in on the chorus was perfect. This is the sign of a great band; paying tribute to great songwriters and music, regardless of fitting into a mold. I can't wait to find out how this came to be. Bee Gees are right up there the Beatles and solo Paul McCartney in song writing and hits. I love the Bees Gees. They too have had a significant cultural impact. Now that I have been introduced to the Foo Fighters through the Dee Gees, I've listened to some of their songs. Gotta say I am loving them!!!! I will make them my favorite rock band!

As a huge DMB fan, when LeRoi Moore died I cried. I saw them live the next year and was very sad I hadn't seen the band before he died. When Chris Cornell died I was shook. I had been a huge fan of everything he had done, Soundgarden was everything when the grunge movement began. Layne Staley, still wonder where he would be today in music if he had lived. But Taylor? This loss has me in a headspace I have never felt before. I am a huge drum fan. My son had a kit, it's still in my basement and he is now 27. I have always had a fascination with drummers. I absolutely love Foo Fighters. And was so fortunate to see them live in 2000 and 2011. My two favorite bands, Foo Fighters and PJ. Matt Cameron is PJ's drummer and he used to be in Soundgarden. Music has been so much a part of my life. It's been my escape, it's been my solace, it's been my joy. I loved you Taylor. I will absolutely miss you. You were a pure joy to watch. You loved, loved, loved what you were doing. And it was so obvious to us fans that this is what you were meant to be and do in your life. But I wish your life was longer. Charlie Watts longer. He was 80. I wish you were here for another 30 years.

This is an amazing cover! I like this more than the original. Just wanna share something I read. In mid 2020 Rolling Stone interviewed Taylor and questions about past drug use and current health came up. I’m a retired nurse and when I read this, his death hurt even more. He had a checkup in 2017 and given all clear…EXCEPT dr told him his heart was slightly enlarged. Dr told him it was a normal finding in highly active (runners and obv drummers) people and instead of further testing he sent Taylor on his way and it’s likely his heart was in early failure. His death could have been likely prevented had heart failure been caught then and treated. By the time he died his heart was point of no return and he probably would have died that night or in days after, drugs or no drugs. Even if he’d survived to hospital admission, he’d have been very very critical and in need of a heart transplant. If only that doctor had done his job instead of assuming back in 2017. His heart at autopsy was twice normal size and if/when final cause of death comes out, heart failure should be cause noted and not overdose. I wish they’d stop harping on the drugs like Taylor was a monster that deserved to die. No one decent and sweet as he was should be demonized in death because of addiction. Taylor would most likely still be going strong now if a doctor had done his job 5 years ago. I was gutted reading this right after he died.
THANK YOU for sharing this. Facts and science are important. I think it’s also amazing that Taylor’s heart was twice the size of a normal heart, which is so telling of the type of man he was. A HUGE heart that always wanted to love as loudly as he could. RIP Taylor.
I would like to thank you too for sharing this. I lost a friend (43) the same way, no drugs or anything involved! That doctor should be sued for letting him go with an enlarged heart. Btw benzodiapines are prescribed by a doctor. Lots of people take them on daily basis, but nobody is talking about that. It's so sad that such a nice and beautiful man passed away so young and that there are people saying that he did it to himself. Shame on them! RIP Taylor, my thoughts and prayers go to your family and the band. May they find the strenght to cope with this terrible loss.
Thank you for sharing. I have read some awful things from people who really have no clue of who he was. I’ve said it many times - someone who could play drums like Taylor can not be a regular drug user. The way he played and the amount of time he played is hard work. Not only being skilled would be enough - he was fit! Having an enlarged heart like that and play show after show…it broke mine when I heard of him passing 💔
Those were my thoughts when I read the enlarged heart thing back then... yes many athletes do have slightly larger hearts but its not a good thing, they usually need to go onto a medication to deal with it and he lived the life of an athlete, both being athletic himself but the 3.5 hour concerts he did drumming the way he did. I cannot believe his doctor just told him that and let him go... a kid in my school was told the same thing and was told not to exert himself much and was put on a low dose med at 15 so not doing that for a 40 something year old is baffling to me. It is so sad and such a loss for the world as a whole.
