First of all, people never stopped speaking like that - the upper class did and many still do, most people wouldn't have spoken in that way. Secondly, if you're a pilot in the military, not staying calm could cost you your life.

Absolutely incredible, they're really calm ahen they're being shot at, in German airspace and about to drop the payload. Just amazing. What an incredible part of our history, I just wish more people would be like this now.. Is there no more we could listen to? :c I just wonder how it was recorded? As their accents really do sound a bit too stereotypical as I'm pretty sure the classic "old boy" British pulot accent was actually completely false and was only thought to be the case because of actors in WW2 films from the time

TheFrosty I suppose that the RAF had a larger proportion of its men recruited from the ”upper classes” than say the Army had. Public school educated young men. That could be one reason for this ”good show old boy” way of speaking. Just a thought...
