If you can ever get your hands on a vintage version of this from the 80s through mid 90s, it's AMAZING. The reformulations don't have a candle to them.
I'm a 33 year old man and I had the most amazing fling with a more mature woman approaching her 50s and she turned me on to Opium. It is such a sensual, alluring, beguiling scent in the world. It is so exquisitely intimate. One of those perfumes that should remain around simply for the sake of existing. I enjoyed the review :)
Its myrrh. Reminds me of my mom. I used to go into her room just to smell it (mid-80s) Still to this day, I only use fragrances the have that note of myrrh.
I have the vintage and the modern and they do smell similar after the first initial spray dries down. The vintage to me is more spicey and Smokey with the fruitiness blended in well. The modern is more lighter on the spice and the Smokiness and a bit more floral and the fruitiness is even lighter. They both smell beautiful but I feel like the vintage is like POW! In you’re face and bold, while the modern is a bit more softer. It is a perfume that you have to have a nose for. I love original opium, both vintage and modern.
I couldn't say how excited I'm for my new vintage Opium Parfum in my collection. I also bought an extrait of Arpège!!! In Argentina we can't find vintage perfumes in general! It's very difficult find a Carolina Herrera classic, N°19 or a Paloma Picasso... so the only thing that I can do is watch videos on RUclips 😭😪
Hello Dacob, I'm wondering if you did a review of the new ''Eau de parfum'' Opium ''Red''? I'm trying to look everywhere but maybe because it's new!!! Thank You💙
I haven't bougth a proper fragance for almost a decade now. After some research and smelling like a dozen samples yesterday - I decided for black opium. In my twenties I used to wear very fruity sickeningly sweet aromas that for some reason I can't stand now in my mid- thirties. This fragance felt so warm and addicting- almost edible. There's a unisex quality to it which I loved. This will be my new evening fragance- it's perfect for it - specially since I live in the Caribbean. During daytime thouugh it would suffocate since it's kinda heavy.
This concentration is one of my greatest fragrance loves. I love that you’ve done this review, but it also makes me anxious. My little bottle won’t last much longer and I’m reminded how hard it will be to replace.
I learnt to appreciate pure perfume oils from my friend from the Middle East. I try to only buy pure perfumes. In a way, pure perfumes are more value for money in my eyes.
I have the vintage YSL Opium EDT. I love the scent but find myself preferring Youth Dew and Cinnabar. I think it's important to test all the classic ambers.
@essence-tiallydacob9611 Hi DACOB, the reformulation of Opium was just made in 2009? During the 80s up and 90' were made other reformulations or was still Opium 1977 version?🤔
I recently made myself a little bit crazy trying to repurchase opium in the department stores. As you probably know the only thing I could find was black opium. Which is not the same. I finally gave up and ordered it online. Honestly I don't remember how old my previous bottle was, this is pretty good but not quite the same to the memory of my nose.
You ordered the edp or edt probably, right? This review is for the parfum however. I do have a designated video for the current version of Opium edp as well as a video review for the vintage Opium edt. All videos are on my Essence-tially Dacob Perfume RUclips channel. Xoxo
@@essence-tiallydacob9611 yes, edp. I watched the whole video so I know it is about the pure perfume. I'm in the Midwest, central Ohio to be exact and getting the pure perfume of anything is next to impossible here, even when I'm willing to pay for it. Half the time the OM doesn't have them, no stores have them, and I'm not confident about the "pedigree" of many scents bought from third parties online. That might be a good video or even for purchase class one day, where to get what you want and/or how to recognize a genuine seller from a scammer, as a lot of scammers use tricks to bump their reviews and feedback scores, and some have even figured out how to age their accounts.
"It is such a pity to lose such a jewel...." as you said..... especially when you lose it to the many other guys which should never even have the word Opium in their name... It is even sadder! I think many people lost brand loyalty to Opium after that. And I realize YSL Beauty couldn´t care less...Hence my question to you here: Where else would you go for an equally addictive floriental? (I am exclusing the Lauder ones, here). Thanks! @essence-tially Dacob

I agree with you. This fragrance really deserves preserving for all time

Memory and smells… extremly powerful 💖

Yes I 'am very much fan of Opium Pure perfume . Im still looking for it in the Department Store but suddenly they keep introducing Black Opium
Not a fan of black opium myself…
“Most perfumes have a bland, cheapy dry down”… YES, EXACTLY! Bravo Dacob!

Its apparently been discontinued again… the parfum I mean
@@essence-tiallydacob9611which one has been discontinued 🥵 the golden bottle edp?

And they are much more intimate and personal even as an application gesture. Self love in a bottle 💖
What fantastic review..!
Thank you Kathy 🙏🏻💖
I have the 7.5 ml with the plastic box… the divinest of divine scents….❤❤❤
It is a beauty

Youth Dew came before Opium and in fact was one of the inspirations for Opium 🥰

Did they discontinued it ? Can’t find any of the Original Opium online
Yep, they did, for bow at least.
Dacob , I can’t find anywhere the pure perfume opium … and I’m considering buying the edp … is it worth it ??
They discontinued the parfum again 😭😭😭😭😭 so the edp is the next best thing
