The most magical of instore display was LouLou - the color of that bottle attracted men who flocked to it & purchased it for mom's ,GF's & themselve's ..Many of the goth purchased it calling it a coffin of fragrance as tuberose is associated with funerals thus the bottle design ....- Giorgio is an American Treasure & a first of sunshine in a bottle . Oh the wonderful 80's - You just get better and better Dacob !

The eighties were magical 💖💖🌈🌈🌈 tuberose is actually very sensual… Lillies are funereal… they smell of sweet death… while tuberose was forbidden for young virgins in the aristocratic courts of Europe because believed to be able to deliver a climax to anybody who smelled them… but then again, the french call a climax “the small death” so I guess we are back at the funeral after all 🤣🤣🤣💖🖤🌈

Coco Chanel was my first and I mean very first Chanel fragrance in my early 30s. It’s my all time favorite and repurchased mine a year ago. Now I have Coco Noir one I bought few months ago for my birthday. Omg it’s my signature scent for fall and winter. The best ever!!!! I love your hair back then my darling! 💕💕💕 but I love your current hair now with those twirl curls! I love you Dacob (my Alexis Carrington) 🤟🏻 oh I graduated high school in 1988 when Elizabeth Taylor’s fragrance released. I was obsessed with a white Diamond!

Loved this video! My favorite video I ever did on my channel was "Powerful Perfumes of the 80s," and I featured most of these! I SO agree with you about fragrance "influencers"...I would rather be authentic and interesting and have a smaller audience! I adore your channel and your extensive knowledge. Well done! 😊

I'm only 5 min in and I am near crying. I was a teen in the 80s, and even then, I knew we were living the good times. For a rural Aussie girl, I was very up to date with the fumes du jour. I lived for perfume, and the wonderful GWPs and samples. The SAs would smother me in Poison and Giorgio when I wandered past the counters with stars in my eyes.

Loved this video. I remember all these fragrances. I miss Ralph Lauren's "Lauren" and "Safari" (or were these 90's)? Claiborne's "Realities", Burberry's "Society", and Borghese had some fantastic fragrances, I don't remember the names but I had 2 of them, one in a dark red label and another had a green label both in frosted glass, I miss them.....

Just discovered you today, what a fun video 💖 I was a teenager in the 80s and that is when I learned I was not a floral fan, partly bc so many around me wore estee lauder Beautiful, which to me was a floral beat down. Ah memories 😄

Thank you for the rant and for this video☺️ Love diving back into the powerhouse fragrance days. Oh how I miss them. My 80’s icon list would include Joop and Cool Water which I still wear to this day. And maybe Dior’s Fahrenheit. 🤤 Was looking to reference your amazon link, didn't see it below, but maybe I just need my glasses. 🤓

I wore the OG Gianni Versace for Women since it was released in 1981. It was my signature scent for decades and I still maintain a small stash...but began exploring other fragrances in November 2023.
While I have built a respectable current fragrance collection, I'm also building a vintage fragrance collection, along with miniatures.

    Such nostalgia!!!
My aunt was (and is) a major fragrance connoisseur!!! I remember the following in the 80s:
1.) The rage of when Giorgio came out. Not all stores sold it, and she ordered it directly from The Giorgio Boutique in Beverly Hills and she ordered the perfume and the bath products. You could smell the scent through the box!!!
2.) Bijan was another fragrance that was a major launch and was only sold at the exclusive dept. stores at the time. In DC, It was only available at a (now defunct) dept. store, called Garfinckel’s, which always had the most exclusive scents. It smelled ama8’g and turned heads!!!
3.) Fendi had an amazing original fragrance and they gave out the best gifts. I remember my aunt buying the perfume, bath products a three-layers ceramic candle set, and they gave her a gift basket and a really well made umbrella. The gifts with purchase back in the 80s was always great.
4.) Poison was ALL THE RAGE in the 80s!! It was such a unique and bewitching scent. When people got tired of Giorgio. They became obsessed with the deeper, darker scents. Poison was one of them. And the jar for their body cream was gorgeous!!!
5.) Obsession!!!! The ad campaigns were intense, the scent was amazing and it was the ultimate winter scent from women who wore immaculate makeup, and North Beach Leather custom suits!!!
6.) New West by Aramis (this might be 90s) but I remember that this clean scent influenced the boom in self care products they had bath salts, a perfume “nectar” and a whole bunch of other products that added a youthful touch to such a fresh fragrance.
7.) I’m glad you mentioned Lou Lou!!! It was a big deal in stores when it came out. Major as campaigns and displays!!!
I could go on an on,
But I wanted to point out how in the 80s, every major fragrance had TONS of products available to
layer: perfume, edt, edp, body cream, shower gel, powers, bath oils, soaks, scrubs, you name it!!!
And the packaging was always elegant!!!
    Also the Nordstrom perfume parties!!!
Nordstrom would select certain days and would open up the beauty section (after closing), to all of their preferred customers and have reps and sometimes perfumers from the brands to give special pricing, limited releases, special gifts and other goodies.
The 80s was the BOMB in fragrance and just shopping period!!!

Thank you for the rant. 😊 The 80s were the turning point for quality (perfume, furniture, fashion, airplane travel...). It is easy to forget in the current climate of corporate penny pinching what money could buy.
Poison esprit de parfum is one of the most divine, dangerous ambers!

Quartz by Molyneux was one of my faves, as was Halston, Volupté by Oscar de la Renta, and Eau Fresh by Jovan. Jovan musk and Sex Appeal were also fab.

I ordered Calyx by Clinique yesterday, can’t wait to try it ❤️

Giorgio of Beverly Hills reached such high popularity also by innovating (or at least really pushing) the scent strip sample in magazines. Every magazine smelled like Giorgio! Many other fragrance followed this method, and the 1980s fragrance renaissance was what we got…

In case you are interested I can send a link, I am sure they can ship worldwide. They do have "Hypnotic Poison EDP", "Pure Poison EDP", "Poison Girl EDP" and the rest is EDT.

Well Dacob you've done it again! The 80s is a difficult decade to pin down in terms of what it was and where it was headed and fragrances from that decade are particularly metamorphic! But by God you did it and did it in quite an encompassing fashion! I currently own every fragrance from your compilation and all their formulations are from their respective years of release. My gawd what a time to be alive then and all I can say is, wish I'd understood fragrances better then than I did. I'm no connoisseur but thanks to you and a few other fragrance gurus I thankfully now possess a greater understanding, knowledge, and appreciation for fragrance! I think my favorite from your amazing 80s frags is Eternity. I own the original "cologne" release and am still on the hunt for that incredibly elusive "perfume"! Oh, I would say, that if aubergine had a a smell it most certainly would smell like Passion....lol! Bravo Maestro!! 👏👏👏👏👏

I remember when I was little, my mum would always get my Nana Dior Poison for Christmas as it was her signature scent. I have a bottle now for memories sake and when I spray it it is like she is in the room with me. Perfume is so powerful ❤️ This was in the late 80s/ early 90s and I still remember the perfume buying experience being special back then.

I will have to try Liz Claiborne. Your description makes me think it may be up my alley. I am so old I remember the 80s well. Opium and Chanel No.5 were always on hand. I also was a gender bender in the days when people considered perfumes as gender specific and wore Halston Z-14. I remember these smells like it was yesterday dancing in gay bars. As a heterosexual woman it was so freeing to be able to dance all night with girlfriends and male friends without getting hit on! The ‘80s had a lot of problems and still is not my favorite decade, but yes to the perfumes and the dance music. Only the Chanel No. 5 remains with me, but the other old loves stay where they belong for me and my personality, in the past! Still beautiful, but definitely not for the person I am. These smell out of tune for my appearance and demeanor and for m essence. Chanel No. 5 was my first perfume love and remains so! Thanks for letting me go down memory lane and thanks for making me curious about a perfume I missed. I will look for Liz Claiborne.
