Love this! The Isley Brothers are underrated for their impact on American Music. Take a look at the orchestra in the back ground. The string players are bored. Not even tapping their toes. On the other hand, on the right side, the 3 trombone players in the horn section are really feeling it! The one in the back looking as if he’s back in his marching band days 😎

"It's Your Thing" for you none believers, is one of our "Funkateers" most beloved song from one of the founders of the rhythm bonanza called funk. THE ISLEY BROTHERS and a handful other funk pioneers could do the impossible, the three-decade streak being "funky"! This is a JAMES BROWN, KOOL & THE GANG, EARTH WIND AND FIRE, THE BAR-KAY'S and of course (the best of the best) THE METERS thing!
Regarding the song "It's our thing"? This is nothing than pure EARLY funk with the "no problem, no over-production" that the sixties gave us. THE ISLEY BROTHERS with their two first album for "T-Neck" was all like "It's Our Thing".
...The later years are EVEN as great, believe me! The T-Neck years are present with a more "oomph" and a more direct "funk" especially the next album "Get into Something"!!!!

    TODAY IN MUSIC HISTORY
50 YEARS AGO TODAY (February 16, 1969): The Isley Brothers (Ronald, Rudy, Kelly) released “It’s Your Thing,” their first single off their resurrected record label T-Neck - just one year after leaving Motown. It peaked at #1 on the R&B singles charts and #2 on the pop singles charts. The song later helped the Isleys win a Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group. [02/16/2019]

Love this. Makes me want to drive a bright yellow volkswagon convertible that must be the squarest car body ever made.

Back before bands lipsynched on TV Shows and actually played. Glad that some shows are keeping it alive and bringing it back.

Many groups and bands did lip sync during that time as well. Just look at any clip from American Bandstand from that period which featured a band.

They only did the bridge one time but that was enough. That’s Marvin on Fender Bass but the guitarist is not Ernie who might be drumming here.
