Ernie Isley: Most underrated guitarist ever
If that ain't the truth
Had the 70s Pump It
I know I was looking at a list of guitarist ( 10 years ago I couldn't even find his name which is total (BS) Some of the greatest guitar solos of all time were done by Ernie isley
Hi, i was just thinking that. Very sexy too! I saw the Isley bros. at the jazz fest in New Orleans some years ago. I always go early so I can get up to the barricade. I can get rained on and sunburned in the same day. I wonder if the Isley bros. Family have old videos of Ernie and Jimi playing guitar together. Take care!
If I'm not mistaken I think I heard an interview somewhere with Jimi Hendrix hung out with them for a little while to actually learned from Ernie💪🏿😎
Sometimes I think this entire song exists just to let Ernie Isley do his thing, and the world is a better place for it. Incredible!!
Hahah true! 🎸
I'm in ! 🙌🏾💯
He was good friends with Jimmy Hendrix matter fact Jimmy was in their band played guitar. Both great players 💞
Possibly. Or either it was so funky they didnt want it to end in 3 minutes like most songs from that time, and someone said "I got an idea!!" lol and it worked
Electric Church - Jimi Hendrix
The Isley Brothers were way ahead of their time. They gave us some true classics.
Yes summer breeze top of my list..
@@bernadettemurtagh8117
Great track to chill out with.
You've got good taste.
I agree with You 100 %
Gave ? You mean GIVING
AS THERE STILL IN MUSIC AND STILL PERFORM NOW
@@bernadettemurtagh8117 my favorite song ever
My mother used to say Ernie Isley was the best guitarist ever. She said everybody copied his style and he didn't get recognized enough for his talent. When we were younger, she would play this album on Saturdays and it was time to get up and clean the house...lol.. it was 6 kids, music blasting in through the speakers and we would be dancing and cleaning. That's back when you could let the whole album play, no skipping to the #1 hit..the whole album was a hit!!
The best years of my childhood. This influenced my taste in music and made me appreciate the artistry
@danahoward759 is a lovely lady.
I also feel he was influenced a lot by Jimi Hendrix who played with The Isley Brothers as a teenager and also lived with them for a while
@danahoward759 I like your story about the childhood appreciation and influence of "Whole Hit Albums" by the Isleys and I'm sure others! The Isleys had many! Believe it or not my very first influence and appreciation came of the love of Nat King Cole's voice at about 4 yrs old! Would sit in front of an old black & white TV watching and listening to his weekly show! And get this, I'm almost 70 & as pale one can get! 50's-90's music, most genres included, best music in history!
@@geralddutcher3662 I also like Nat King Cole's voice❤️ and I agree, the 50's thru the 90's was some of the best music 🎶 🎵
@@danahoward759 And how about Natalie's!? Chip off the proverbial block! The songs that she did with her Dad dubbed in are treasures!!!

Ernie Isley destroyed that guitar solo. Loved it, rock on!
Ernie rocks.

You are so right. Ernie is one of the best guitarist alive. 🎸🌹
He is absolutely fantastic on the guitar... right on!!!
Ernie is criminally underrated I wanna yell it from the rooftops. Voyage to Atlantis speaks for itself.
Fun Fact: Jimi Hendrix was briefly a member of the group. But Ernie Isley f-ing owned that guitar in this song. Wouldn’t have made it as high on the charts without it. Epic song!
No doubt! the guitar play makes the song what it is...that was some hypnotic stuff...Jimi would be proud
Thanks for this information!
yea try right about Ernie Isley!!!!
Yea and Jimi Hendrix actually lived with and mentored Ernie Isley for a time.
In many later versions, Ernie
let everyone see what it was like to learn from Jimi Hendrix. Ernie shredding was almost as good as Jimi. They made love to their guitar 🎸
RIP O'Kelley, Rudolph and Marvin Isley
Dear lord, Ernie Isley has tone for miles!
The lsley Brothers one of the baddest groups ever! Real Talk!
Hey man 🤣😁♂️ too was just wondering who knows 😜 the best songs written by lsley

Best and most underrated guitar solo ever. Not a single note wasted and every note served the song.
precisely!!!
No one ever underrated it but you.
@@carolynforge8586 I don't think you understood my post. I put this solo within the top 10 best ever!
@carolynforge8586 Even Hendrix said that Ernie has more soul than he will ever have....
I do remember it back then .
Maybe the best soul band ever. Their catalog is fantastic. Ernie is a great guitarist. His rhythm work is tremendous as is his lead work.
Ernie made that guitar talk!!!
Ernie Isley should b arrested playing the guitar
Killed that guitar 🎸 😎
@James S1W That's right!!!
Dat Bitch Was Wailing
Well now he really did!!! That’s my Boys!!!
Ernie has always been underrated and under appreciated in the guitar world. Man, that TONE! That phaser sound is pure magic. Long live 1973!
But all of his solos sounded the same.

Me too!
Omg yassssssss💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
He's Murdering that Guitar
Phew! That guitar solo is totally awesome. He makes that Strat sing. Pure genius.
i like the guitar clicks too.
i like the guitar clicks during the musical breaks.
Ugh, and how is it that you know the distorted guitar was a Fender Strat. I'd say possibly that the rhythm guitar might have been a Fender, but even that is a stretch. I don't even know the session players who laid down these Isley tracks.
Do you know where he got his licks from?Jimi Hendrix used to be in the Isley bros in the late 50s
@@cliffordduzz4342 JH was with the Isley brothers in 64.
RIP the Isley brothers that passed 🙏🕊️
Look at all the beautiful afros on display what a time to be alive when Soul Train was banging
I'm doing 1973 over again. 2023's gone rogue.
1973 was a lovely year for American music. Funky and gentle at the same time. Not as commercial as '74.
As Don Cornelius would have said "The Impeccable Isley Brothers"🫡
Ernie playing the hell out of thar Guitar. Superb🔥🔥🔥
4 SHO
This guitar solo should be in the all time top 10 of ALL TIME.. WOW... Love this song too
Chris Jasper the genius behind their sound and lyrics.
You better recognize who was the true gem in that group, and on full display in this video. Guitarist, drummer and composer of the group's hit songs; Ernie Isley.
DAMNNNN Ernie brought that guitar to LIFE...then Murdered it.
😅🤩🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I hear THAT! ❤️😁❤️
You hit that on the head

The tone he's getting out that Strat is unbelievable.
His Strat is going through a Big Muff fuzz and a Maestro phase shifter to get that sound
@@johnhatherley5129 thank you for that information: much appreciated

Was there another guy off stage playing back up rhythm guitar on the wah pedal?
This is the kick ass extended guitar solo version
This is what's missing in music today, real instruments with voices that can carry a tune.
And amazing lyrics
Holy cow. Best guitarist ever. Never knew till now. Better late than never.
Ernie Isley on lead guitar. Outstanding!
Indeed, quite a outstanding lead guitarist********
That's actually him on drums too. It's just for the performance they had to put a guy back there to act like he's drumming.
RIP Rudolph Isley. Y'all were kings.
Isley Jasper Isley took The Isley Brothers to another level musically.
The guitarist is a beast.
HAPPY 71ST BIRTHDAY

The best of the Isley Brothers rest in peace Rudolph Isley 10/11/23.
Ernie legit murdered that guitar! Wow
I was waiting on that guitar to explode afterwards, good lord!
I remember getting my first stereo system back in "73 at age 11. This was the first 45 I played and it just blew me away. The guitar solo is one of the all-time best.
Ernie is killing it bro. Give up to soul train dancer!
Incredible group whose music has spanned over six decades. One of the greatest R&B groups ever.
i hate that little *bling* everytime the trivia pops up
Yep. Annoying AF.
I agree...it's ANNOYING!!!
Quite so.Bad form for a music video!
Ruined a legendary performance!
Agree on that, unnecessary interruption
Man O'Kelly and Rudolph always dressed gangster style with them hats...lol
"Whose that lady" is my favorite song of The Isley Brothers. 👍♥️🙏✝️✌️😎
One of the coolest performances in Soul Train History. The Brutha's were very talented.
Ernie imitating Hendrixs with a head band and playing the guitar with his teeth.
Maybe it was Jimi that was emulatating Ernie....!!! Ernie probably taught Jimi everything he knew...!!!!
Listen the man in red baby can’t nobody tell him nothing. That man is smooth!
Yassssss, he look dam good too😍
Sturdy, sexy & grooving!
That is Mr. Rudolph Isley! In Red and yes he was grooving ✊🏿👊🏿👍🏿

I unfortunately forgot his name.
DAMN THIS WAS THE JAM. I STAYED ON THE DANCING FLOOR TILL I COULDN'T DANCE NO MORE.
Wasn't it the best!!!?! What a great time to have been young and alive. 💕
I remember this. Soul Train was better American Bandstand because it was alive. Ernie Isley was close to the level of Jimi Hendrix. His fingers danced.
This and Long Train Running by the Doobies... We danced in 1973!!!
This is as soulful as it gets. Musical brilliance.
Wow! Ernie Isley is so underrated!
Ernie Isley is just nailing this guitar solo. Love love it😍🎸

Always felt that was absolutely the best guitar work ever on an R&B record. TBH, it could easily be considered a rock song as well. The Isley Brothers were a phenomenal group. Miss the “good old days”.
Ernie Isley is a Phenomenal Guitarist!!!!❤❤❤
Music back then was pure fire!!. 💢💯💢💯 It does not get any better than this performance.

FORTY NINE years old!! Unbelievable tune!! 🇺🇸
ERNIE ISLEY IS ONE OF MUSICS' BEST GUITARISTS' OF ANY GENRE!!! PERIOD. THE MOST UNDERRATED GUITARIST EVER!!!😊
Love that the guitarist appears to be giving a nod to Jimi Hendrix with the "bite chord"
Jimi was in this band for a while and taught the younger brother how to use distortion and effects.
Jimi Hendrix audition for The Isley Brothers
This was only 3 years after Hendrix's passed.
Ernie was pretty young when Jimi was them, maybe 11 or 12.
I know there some talented people out there today but in 60s-80s was on different level.
u can get why they've been sampled over 800 times awesome
If she would just do what I say. You definitely can't say things like this today, which makes me love this tune even more. the best guitar solo, vocals and drums. This 59 yr old white man digs this tune!
Ernie Goin IN on that lead guitar 💪
You can thank Chris Jasper, Ernie Isley and Marvin Isley for that mid 70's Isley funk sound. Those three took The Isley Brothers to another level.
Yep. They up on the riser. Older brothers down front. Chris Jasper went to Julliard and was classically trained. Ernie just a pure genius and Marvin, RIP wrote a lot of their hits also.
I think Ernie Isley was inspired by Jimmy Hendrix, because Jimmy was once a part of the Isley's in the early 60's(2 or 3 years).
Chris Jasper and Ernie played a MAJOR role in the new sound. Yes. They did take them to another level. From ‘73-‘83 there was no stopping them.
Indeed!

That guitarist is the man! And damn that guy can sing
You could see Jimi Hendrix influence all over Ernie. From the head band to the Fender Strat to playing with his teeth.
FOR REAL
Yup
I think he was mentored by Jimmi for a while, Ernie is brilliant x
Mick Jagger said that Jimi made love to his guitar. So did Ernie Isley.
And there's a similarity to Machine Gun by Hendrix. Fantastic!
Ernie Isley is killing it on guitar
This was my favorite song for a long long time. That guitar solo used to give me goosebumps on the head
Amen
Same here.
Ahh, there it goes again...
isley brothers been sampled over 800x? daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn thats like all the hits from the 80s to now lol
Big Rudolph was always feeling it

Ayeeeee 💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
The lead guitarist picking those strings with sheer perfection, a true professional.
Nothin' better than watchin' geniuses at work.
Young Marvin on bass always pimped out. RIP.
Lamar Kendrick is a nightmare next to The Isleys. No one can remake them Isley songs
It looked like Ernie Isley was doing a little Jimi Hendrix there plucking the guitar strings with his teeth. But by 1973 Jimi had already been gone for 3 years. And I ran into Ron Isley last year (2022) at LAX. He's in a wheel chair now but still exhibits that gold chain style that we used to see on stage. And just listening to this music makes me feel like a kid again. I'm so glad we have the technology to go back and see this whenever we want.
Plucking the strings with one's teeth is called "flossing." 🙂
Here in 2020 song still slaps
SAY IT!
Yup yup
Ernie on that guitar is on 🔥🔥
Rudolph was sooooo smooth with the moves!!!! Rest In Heaven 🙏🏾
Man, the guitar player was killing it. I've always loved this song but this version live on Soul Train was the best.
Got that right
This isn’t live. They’re lip sync ing to the recording.
Summer Breeze and Life in The City & Disco City to name a few. Ernie is all world leget.
He was on the Jimi Hendrix level. But didn’t get the recognition
And that's a shame.
Because of those ultra racist causcians
@@bevnedd8746 Sure, that's why Richie Havens, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone, BB King, etc. were so unpopular, LMFAO! There' are plenty of reasons to be concerned about racism but blaming Ernie Isley's limited fame on "ultra racist Caucasians" is stupid! The comment above by @Bill Bixby is a better explanation why Isley didn't achieve super stardom. Direct your anger in the right direction and learn to spell Caucasian correctly!
@Bill Bixby this is the most ignorant smooth brained comment I have ever seen on RUclips.
@@geneobrien8907 I stand by my words. Misspelling of the word still conveyed to whom I was referring, so what's your problem?

Absolutely!
NO DOUBT THEY WERE AMAZING!
Probably one of the badass guitar players of all time Ernie Isley
This video shows how much fun we had back in those days. Look at them enjoying the music and how they are grooving to the jam. Friday night dances in the small gym during the high school years. House parties in the garage. Damn.

Lol!! For sho!! back in the day
About 22 yrs. ago I went to see them live, and they didn't disappoint! I was literally one of about 5 white people in the entire auditorium and had a blast all by myself! White people don't appreciate R&B enough; it's the best music everrr!
For reals!!!
SuPete. White folks appreciated all the 70s music big time. And the 60s music which started the genre of soul music as an entity that the record companies used to exploit all the black artists. The regular white folks loved all music in the 60s. All music. There was no division.
Yessssssssss
I went to see them at Summerfest and a couple of blacks chicks asked me why I was there... I said to see this SONG!
Git it white boy. Git Iit
Man everyone hears Ernie Isley.Truely one of greatest guitarists of his time.
They had a concert in Savannah Georgia and my girlfriends and I ran to the stage to get close to Ernie. We kept telling him to come closer to us 😂. He finally got tired of us and gave us his guitar picks and a hand towel for each of us. I look back on that night and laugh at us.😅
