I enjoy your videos very much because I am a lover pf books... New, especially Old, hand made, and repurposed. Hope you didn’t get a sunburn while watching for the eclipse today. Blessings. TmBJ
I did workshops with prop hands and movie makeup years ago, and also have some friends in the business today. Its not that they can not make prop guns look real. The reason they use them is because they need to shoot blankes which have some powder, but no bullet because they have yet to find a way to make the actor look like they are really shooting. Its the recoil reaction they cant seem to yet duplicate in a realistic way. On a proper set, it is RIDICULOUS how many safety measures there are for using these guns. In this case , so many things led to this mistake. Like dozens....sadly the armor will be the fall guy (yes, she is the biggest part, but not the only....by far). These mistakes happen when corners get cut, and things get rushed. I think we will find out just how many people are involved and how many issues there were as this unfolds. I have heard so many things, cant wait to see if any make this court room.

I am really inspired by you i also made a hard book cover for of paper book which is new but for safty i just made cover, in which nothing is done to book but like a phone case i can just stick book into it's case and it will be safe. Oh. Nik what a coincidence! I used the almost identical titled cover for the first book I made using your videos as a guide. Yes, a complete letter writer guide book …there are probably hundreds of similar titles, as it was likely a money maker in the old days before AI! I made it for a young friend, a writer, who loves it. It also has maps and music.

And I am sorry...but they can't get the realistic recoil from firing the guns? CGI has come so far...they are gonna need to come up with something else.

I have watched all the interviews on the rust incident and one of the actors said point blank that there wasnt even supposed to be a gun in the scene they were shooting. It was just to be a close up of Alec. No gun was needed in the shot!!! Love the book Nik!!!
The book looks FANTASTIC! You always whistle through the binding lickety-split and make it look so effortless. I know it's NOT. Ha! "Making Tylenol look like Skittles." It's funny because it's true! The argument "Oh, but it won't look realistic!" is so ridiculous. I think all the people who have DIED for the importance of realism would go for pretend if given a choice.

You referenced the blanks look like live rounds is like making Tylenol look like Skittles. How about why do they make laundry detergent pods look like Candy Crush? It's no wonder kids make a game of eating Tide pods. They look delicious.
Love the book. As for the gun, there are templates for 3D printed guns. Even if Hollywood can't figure out how to fabricate a fake gun, there is really no excuse I can think of for having real bullets on the set. This is not the first time someone lost their life in an incident like this.
