    I just upgraded from my Nikon 24-120 f4 to the Nikon 24-70 f2.8. For my studio work it’s great to use a zoom for myself and even in location studio stuff is still great.

    I absolutely agree! I'm a huge fan of the 24-70! Primes are great but it's much more convenient to have various focal lengths in one lens than a slight increase in quality with primes ;)

    I agree with the 24/70. I hate shallow depth of field shots for full body or portraits. If I have to use only one prime, I prefer the 50mm. but the older ones because expecially the new z line fifthy for nikon, are heavy bulky giant lens. I don’t need 50 1.2 or 1.4. a super small and lightweight 50 1.8 is just enough (to be used
    from f5.6 to f11. in fashion higher ISO are better than wider apertures, all thr dress must be in focus eheh)

  • @michaelkeith8496
    @michaelkeith8496 Год назад

    My favorite currently is standard lens which is 50mm ff or 35mm apsc, because it is the closest to how I see things. But sometimes I have to use wide lens like 16mm apsc or 24mm ff if the space is too tight.

    I really regret I lost money buying expensive prime lenses. As a fashion photographer I think the 24-70mm 2.8 is the first and only one to go with. Then rent other lenses when needed like the 70-200mm or macro lens.

  • @creativebeyondhouse
    @creativebeyondhouse Год назад

    Do you use more fill light because of the 2.8? I only use the 50, but I'm looking for a second lens to shoot wider, but also when there is not much light what do you do?
    Everyone says different things, so I'm doubting what's best.

    For those on a budget - Nikon (and others as well) has a great 28-75 F2.8 - half the price and weight.... I actually like the 28 as my bottom limit- keeps me from too much distortion as I am shooting - I will switch to my old trusty 17-35 when I want the really wide- angle perspective looks...

  • @eyvindness
    @eyvindness Год назад +1

    I agree, for studio work this zoom is all I really need. Except I now use the fabulous RF 28-70 f2, which can give you even more of a prime like look & feel, across the zoom range, if that's what makes your day 🙂

  • @itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837

    Hard agree.
    The added quality of a prime will typically do much less for your images than shooting your given scenario at the optimal focal length. Nothing says that you're even carrying the exact focal length prime for a given shot, or that you're realistically going to switch primes with every little distance change you might do during a shoot.
    Good quality zoom FTW.

    25-69mm is the only focal length I do not own between 14 & 500mm. I don't regret purchasing the 14-24 Nikon but should have purchased the 24-70 G, non vr Nikon first.

    In my opinion fixed mm lenses challenge you and make you go closer-farther away. In short, they make you move in order to produce the desired result, something that from what I've seen isn't a skill many photographers have.

    • @ianhippolyte
      @ianhippolyte  Год назад

      Completely understand that! Although sometimes the focal length you have just might not be right for the shot you’re trying to capture and having a zoom helps avoid that situation.
