The 24-70 is a great ‘Jack of all trades’ lens especially for fashion and weddings.
I could not agree more! 24-70 is all I use and it does everything I need! Also, I just love your work and your videos are so inspiring so please keep it up!!
Your content is inspiring, Ian!
I'm starting shooting models here in Brazil and your one light video setups helped me a lot!
Thank you.
This was so incredibly helpful! Thank you sharing your insight with us!
I just upgraded from my Nikon 24-120 f4 to the Nikon 24-70 f2.8. For my studio work it’s great to use a zoom for myself and even in location studio stuff is still great.
I'm sure having that extra f stop is great on location! 😍
For shooting outside it's unnecessary
as a fashion & beauty photographer, my experience makes me completely agree with your conclusion. 24-70 and almost nothing else
I absolutely agree! I'm a huge fan of the 24-70! Primes are great but it's much more convenient to have various focal lengths in one lens than a slight increase in quality with primes ;)
Good refresher course. Awesome work.
Thanks for sharing your experience ❤
I use Canon EF-S 17-55 f/2.8. Absolutely love it. This is the closest option to 28-70 for a cropped-frame body.
Same here. I have sa sigma 17-50 f2.8.
Lovely video as always! I love your content!
Thank you!
Hey, great video and lovely shots! I totally agree. I pretty much exclusively use a similar lens on another system and it works perfectly for me in all circumstances :)
It’s the one and only lens I’ve used for years now! Works great for video too. Definitely has longevity
24-70 and 70-200 (which I mainly use) both with f 2.8 are a combination that covers almost all kinds of shoots and makes you happy for decades.
I absolutely agree because this lens helps you gain more advantages when shooting outdoor wedding videos where you don't have to be changing lenses frequently
I’m saving up for a 24-105L f4 to be used as my workhorse lens. I’d say this is the one lens for my portrait work since I can shoot wide at 24 and close beauty shots at 105.
Your video image quality is clean 👏🏼👏🏼
I completely agree, the only lens I use
As always, you are the best! 🤍📸🔥
So much information in so little time… umm yesss!!
I use 5d mkii's with 2 lenses. 24-70 f2.8 & 70-200 f2.8. I shoot theatre and fashion. I have never needed other lenses and still make a bit of money😊
Good honest video btw👍
Same!
People are shocked when I tell them I shoot on the 5d mkii instead of upgrading my body but you're absolutely right. I LOVE the dreamy images you can get from it paired with the 24-70
I agree with the 24/70. I hate shallow depth of field shots for full body or portraits. If I have to use only one prime, I prefer the 50mm. but the older ones because expecially the new z line fifthy for nikon, are heavy bulky giant lens. I don’t need 50 1.2 or 1.4. a super small and lightweight 50 1.8 is just enough (to be used
from f5.6 to f11. in fashion higher ISO are better than wider apertures, all thr dress must be in focus eheh)
My favorite currently is standard lens which is 50mm ff or 35mm apsc, because it is the closest to how I see things. But sometimes I have to use wide lens like 16mm apsc or 24mm ff if the space is too tight.
Agreed although I’m in love with my canon Rf 24-105mm:)
Oooh nice, what body do you shoot on?
I really regret I lost money buying expensive prime lenses. As a fashion photographer I think the 24-70mm 2.8 is the first and only one to go with. Then rent other lenses when needed like the 70-200mm or macro lens.
Do you use more fill light because of the 2.8? I only use the 50, but I'm looking for a second lens to shoot wider, but also when there is not much light what do you do?
Everyone says different things, so I'm doubting what's best.
Great vlog as always. My one beef with my 24-70 is it's weight and size. Other than that I fully agree on it's versatility.
Interesting! What brand do you use? I haven’t found the canon one too heavy
@@ianhippolyte I use a Nikon. It's not unmanageable but I find a prime lens far easier to swing about!!
..so true...i used 35mm and 85mm, since 4 month a have a 24-70mm GM (sony)... and since 4 month i never changed the lens... greets BM
Stunning photos! Although, you'd probably make beautiful images using the Canon 18-55 kit lens as well😁
haha thanks! Would be difficult but I always say light and composition is more important than equipment!
agree ! seems like i can sold all the others.
Speaking of shooting digital - For me is 35mm enough. I like to take environmental portraits and this is all I need. Sometimes I use 24mm as well. For analogue photography I have a 50mm lens.
is this also ok with aps-c cameras? this 24-70 or should buy one for aps-c specifically? Thank you in advance.
l agree🥂
For those on a budget - Nikon (and others as well) has a great 28-75 F2.8 - half the price and weight.... I actually like the 28 as my bottom limit- keeps me from too much distortion as I am shooting - I will switch to my old trusty 17-35 when I want the really wide- angle perspective looks...
Oh cool!
I agree, for studio work this zoom is all I really need. Except I now use the fabulous RF 28-70 f2, which can give you even more of a prime like look & feel, across the zoom range, if that's what makes your day 🙂
Heavy AF
Hard agree.
The added quality of a prime will typically do much less for your images than shooting your given scenario at the optimal focal length. Nothing says that you're even carrying the exact focal length prime for a given shot, or that you're realistically going to switch primes with every little distance change you might do during a shoot.
Good quality zoom FTW.
25-69mm is the only focal length I do not own between 14 & 500mm. I don't regret purchasing the 14-24 Nikon but should have purchased the 24-70 G, non vr Nikon first.
Interesting! What style of photography do you do?
@@ianhippolyte Landscape, Nature, Macro & Wildlife. I would of thought somewhere between 70 & 200 for fashion. I guess one's style dictates & one could probably make almost any focal length (within reason) work. Or work with.
what camera do you shoot with?
In my opinion fixed mm lenses challenge you and make you go closer-farther away. In short, they make you move in order to produce the desired result, something that from what I've seen isn't a skill many photographers have.
Completely understand that! Although sometimes the focal length you have just might not be right for the shot you’re trying to capture and having a zoom helps avoid that situation.
@@ianhippolyte true. Different mm produce different results.
One lens to rule them all
I.... have to agree on the 24-70mm choice. It's quite versatile in many scenarios when shooting subjects and in fashion.
NICE GUY....WOULD LOVE to PORTRAIT HIM
stupid title! speak for yourself, you don't know what I'm shooting and what I need
Bro relax
....you seem to be a realy friendly contemporary....
