You're right it definitely takes time. I lost my job in March due to the pandemic, so that gave me time to focus on photography. I'm just now getting my first few clients
Sorry to hear about the job, but glad to hear things are picking up!
I just found this channel. I’m hooked how humble this guy is.
Thank you for your inspiration
I’ve been doing pro photography for a year, I love it!
Yesss! Do another video on the studio. Love to see a tour, how you decided to set it up and more
thank you! i learned photography by myself as well, and also videos, and I'm so into fashion photography. recently I'm doubting myself for my abilities, but now I think that I just need to work harder and smarter and keep LEARNING! THANK YOU
I really love all of your videos. You are very articulate and I feel like I can relate really well with your photography journey. Which feels good cause this career path can feel very lonely sometimes. Thank you for sharing your experience. :)
Eagerly waiting for the fundamentals of lighting vid 💯🎥 also love your videos bro, keep inspiring! 💯
Awesome work!! Hope to see another video during the fall. Kudos to you and your team for great content.

Was nice to hear your story. I am at the same place with my own studio and business. Just in videography. Keep it up mate your work looks really good 🔥
You are better than any photographers you learned from - your work is insanely good
Nice video mate, fellow London creative! Just discovered this, lovely video.
I need a video about having a studio space and your journey in finding one.
Yes more about the studio!
Very practical and helpful video. I just love Ian and watch his videos to get inspiration and creativity. Love 💞 and best wishes for Ian from India 🇮🇳
I’m going to a school for photography, I started really early with making photos but it really helps with technical experience and it’s really fun working with people with te same passion :)
I think one of the best things about going to school for photography is being exposed to new styles, techniques and history that you might try on your own. Plus, access to equipment and studio space beginners won't have
THE best thing has to be critiques of your work!
Who has ever hung up their photos in front of a professor and 10+ other photographers and been torn apart? Haha. I can tell you, the average self taught photographer posting on social media has not. Having hundreds of Instagram likes, high numbers of followers, and clout chasing, they probably only ever heard glowing reviews of their work and can't handle that they're not perfect
I was a member of a Facebook group where people would dam near come to blows over CC. "Your rim light is a little hot" or "the skin retouch is too plastic" was met with "I meant to do that!"
School teaches you how to detach yourself from your work; to listen, and come back better. Also, it teaches you how to GIVE a critique with respect and to defend your work when necessary
love all your videos !! very inspiring!
defintely would ove a lighting crash course ha
Do a video on how to turn a room or rental space into a studio. How long did it take you to build it.
You’re amazing. Thank you for sharing ♥️
I love your videos and your skin! 🤩
I'm a photographer and am thinking of starting a studio and renting it out, too! I would love to see how that works for you, how you do bookings, what you looked for in a space, cost breakdown in regards to hiring out the space (eg do you charge for a cleaner afterwards or whatnot). Any and all info you give about how you run your studio for yourself and for hiring to others would be greatly appreciated!
I've always been in to photography but now that we're dealing with this pandemic. I have more time to really focus on it. Team Rihanna 💜💜💜
I love your work!
I’d love to hear a video on how you pitch to brands and get clients!
AND I LOVE RIHANNA !
Thanks for these pieces of advice. I didn´t go to any photography university (in fact, because of family pressure I studied Electronics, and years later I quit that thing) and I can confirm that the really useful stuff in photography is what you learn through research + practice + analyzing your images + fixing errors... and then repeat. Sure, you need things like photography history, light physics theory and so things that teach in school... but... you can also learn it by yourself ;). I´m not against the school, but the most creative people I´ve ever known has been self-taught. Coincidence?
Great info bro 💖
Inspired me so much thanks
yooo def make a studio video sounds like a good investment ive thought about it a good few times
this is a such an "ePIC" Q and A LOL :P
keep it up! :)
How did you find your studio space to begin with? I'm wanting to follow a path similar to yours with no idea where to start haha. Could you do a vid on how you got off the ground with your space? Love your content and your pics are out of this world! Cheer! :)
You should license your voice as a audiobook narrator for Amazon. Its very pleasant and calming.

Yesss Anita Sadowska is my favorite!
Can you do a video of a photo shoot with a one light set up please !!!
“PHOTOGRAPHERS MAKE MONEY?!” I felt that to my soul 😭
Travis Wallace some do but the majority are making ends meet.
@@sexysilversurfer I was a struggling photographer until I raised my prices alot. My avg sale is $2200 a shoot.
@@danielg7216 How do you figure out how much your photography is "worth"? To your point it seems that some people will only take you seriously enough if you charge higher rates.
thanks a lot for those very personal and very helpful informations 👍
How do you calculate your prices and how do you orient yourself with these calculations? Maybe at the prices of other pros in your region?
Can you please do a tutorial on how you use a light meter!
Hi. I am a big fan of you. I am learning many things from your videos. I have a question. When I use a vivid colour background I am scared of the colour repletion especially on a model’s face and clothes. Would you give me tips?
"How do you make money?"
*Karl Taylor Education ad starts playing*
please show us a studio tour

I wasn’t expecting That gasp when you’re talking about that you wouldn’t recommend university. I was alone in my room it scared the shit out of me 😂😂😂😂😂😂 hahaha
would love to know how much it ended up costing to set up your own space
My dream person would be Odell or zendaya. I wanna go into fashion photography
Hey Ian, new subscriber here! I've got a silly question about gear, which I know isn't THAT important, but in the world of high end fashion portraits I was sure:
I've got a Sony a7iii with an 85 1.4gm and REALLY want to start shooting fashion portraits. You've inspired me! Is there specifics you look for in cameras that would be "industry standard?"
@@bellabrunton7412 everyome says that resolution isn't that important but I SWEAR there is a different look to a 42mp amd a 24
I can’t believe that the “instagram influencers” only paid you £40, they really take advance of new inspiring photographers!! It angers me so much!!!! Btw you’re amazing!
I would do it for free. TFP all the way.
TFP FTW!
Depends on how big the influencers were and if he did more than 1 shoot per week. 40gbp for an hour of shooting when its your first paid job is fine.
Im surprised that u didnt go to school!
can you talk about test shoots?
Hi, man! what's your monthly rent for the studio? just wondering to compare with the rental fees in my country
What type of floors and steps do you models step on?
how did you learn photography?
can you please mention the exact name of 2 people that you said in this question because i cannot understand properly that 2 names please
Hello, could you tell more information about your studio, thanks)
what was that at 5:24. Spooky!!!
what's your age bro ? at the what age you started photography professionally ?
What advice do you have for somebody that does not have a camera but a lover of photographing!
If you're going to do a lighting course - you may want to consider making it an official paid online course just like the guy parker walbeck on youtube, imho. That'a great monthly income and you deserve it. All these lighting guys are running ads to your audience for their courses on your channel as I watch this vid. It's totally worth it and can be a little more of passive income after the initial set up.
I'm a new photographer and did a free shoot last weekend (3hrs, 380 photos down to 8photos) and worked photoshop, your work got me excited to start up. So if I can get free publicity from her, I'm hoping to get paid jobs.
My photshop is shyat tho lol I'm trying, I just think when i do photo shop, did i get their hair line?... is this worth the 5 pounds? lol
Thanks dude.
I would love to see a video about having a studio!
Very cool. You sort of remind me of Lewis Hamilton 😉
What lav mic are you using?
What background are you using?
omg Rihanna superfan! haha
rihana? after saying it for 1000x " did i say Rihana?" lol
Como estás en Spotify?
I need to get UK Visa
How can get the best focus on my camera...i feel like i I often gets slightly blurred pics on my 5d mark iv using a 24-70 aperture 4?
Could be a number of things, including - but not limited to - poor technique, bad lens, back/front focusing issues.
I never earned a single penny from photography. Photography only costs a ton of money. I spend about 70 hours a week doing shoots and editing shoots (mostly editing). All on a TFP basis. How the hell do you find time to look at all those things you said you get your inspiration from?? I spend like every free minute editing images.
God I learned a lot😇,
I wish I could connect with you personally 😔.
How did you learn editing? Do you edit yourself or send to outsource?
watched photoshop tutorials on RUclips! I still edit myself at the moment
What happened to the editing video you had up? It was great!
