I’m super interested in this capture one live. I don’t really care for sharing the session in real time but to be able to send a link and allow the clients to select rating would be great. This would definitely save me from exporting and then uploading to a gallery for them to select!
@@ianhippolyte Just right in time. Just the video I wanted. It covers everything I love you 😘 and all the details you put here. My photography is about to take a whole new level after this video
Fantastic video Ian! Would love any future videos where you walk through an actual shoot with different setups and looks and how you collaborate with HMU/Stylist/Set Designer (i.e. your team) and how you guys work together to create the images that meet your client expectations.
Very well articulated workflow. Capture One Live has been a game changer for sure. I’ve been using Capture One Pro for about 10 years, initially for tethered shooting. It became my go to raw processor, asset manager, and more over the past few years.
I would love if you could explain how to do TFP/Test shoots? Especially for those starting out in fashion photography and has never worked with a full team. How do we go by knowing what to charge or do we do it all for free?
I LOVE capture one too and watching you work with the program is so inspiring! I have a question though…How do you move a session from a working drive to an external hard drive? Everyone says it’s so easy but my sessions I have moved end up unable to find the photos or messed up! It would be so great if you did a vid on the backing up process for you photos! 👏🏽🙏🏽 please!
quick question, say the client told us they want images for a social media campaign, Instagram. But then a few months later you happen to drive pass a billboard or in a retail store & saw the image. What then?
Contact them and say that they didn't pay for that type of ad campaign - and you would like to be compensated for that type of use or they need to take it down. What amount sounds fair to them? Alternatively, use it as a promo and film the billboard and say my photo was used here and promote it so other companies know the possibilities
very nice thank you, Ian! I have been using a similar workflow except I edit in lightroom and then photoshop and I send proofs and finals through pic-time. But I have seen that now you can easily share a gallery through lightroom and capture one too I think. Would love to know more about your selection process and how you know when a photo is done? I often shoot and get stuck with too many photos... Also, do u keep all or what is your workflow there for yourself to publish and put on the website, etc. Please share you are such an inspiration I always cant wait to see your video's! Cheers and thank you!
Love the video Ian! Any reason why you don't round-trip from Capture One into Photoshop when retouching? I'm not sure it's a standard feature but I believe if you right click the thumbnail picture, choose edit in, and choose photoshop (or "other application", then photoshop, if its first time setting it up), you can set it up easily.
I was wondering the same thing. Because when you do that then you can equally share the finals with your client through capture one without using wetransfer I think
Hi Ian, thanks for the new exciting video. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get 20% discount for capture one. I left already two different emails as it was requested and I’m not getting anything from them ☹️
hey Ian, thank you for the insights! I was wondering if you maybe have an advise for me.. so I've been working in the fashion industry for about 2 years now as an assistant. I want to be a photographer myself, I also have my own studio now and working in a rental so the light equipment is free. what im lacking is contacts to hair&makeup, styling and models. any tips on how to connect with people in the industry?
Great video as always Ian! I tried using your code to upgrade and it doesn't seem like it gave me a discount. Is this just for new users? Or does it only apply when you renew?
Here’s the truth about the real world, usage fees and licensing fees will go out of the window as soon as you present them to a client my advice is stick with your day rates, you’re not that famous!
And that thinking is exactly what prevents many photographers getting paid fairly for their work. Not only 'famous' photographers should be able to charge usage. If more photographers charged usage fees instead of trying to undercut each other, we could all benefit. Model agencies always charge based on usage and photographers should too.
Hi, great video! Can I ask you whether you give clients a contract or they send you one? If you provide them with a contract for the shoot are you sending it with the quote? This contract is something you put together or should it go through a lawyer? Thanks
For me personally, the contract forms part of the quote - once they sign and agree/pay a deposit the contract becomes binding. I put mine together myself and there are templates online but you could get a lawyer to draft a custom one if you feel it’s necessary for your business.
Hi Ian I've just stumbled across your channel and absolutely love your videos! Would you mind providing deeper insight on how you price for jobs - you mentioned licence fees - can you help provide insight on how to cost for that - where to find examples, etc. Thanks in advance!
This sponsorship was literally perfect, so authentic and actually helpful to subscribers.
So so much

Saves a lot of time and can even be sent straight after the shoot so the client can start making selects on the way home!
@@ianhippolyte do they have to be on a computer to make the selects. Or can they also do it from their cell phone?

Hello, teacher. I'm a photography student. I like your photos very much. How can I find you to learn from you?
I’m watching this while making a Beyoncé inspired project and I see we both liked the same shoot lol

Do you do Frequency Separation on Capture one? Or a different program?
I edit my photos on Capture One and skin retouch in Affinity Photo.
Frequency separation is done in Photoshop :)

do have set amount of pictures you delivery?
Great video , Do you get a shot list ?
It depends, I don’t always write down a list but might make a note of the areas I want to a shoot in or the outfits and compile a list that way
do you provide client with contracts?
Regarding number 2, the licensing/usage fee is really important I'd say to build up on.
Definitely! Not enough people include a license fee in their rates and some clients have never heard of a license fee before!
@@ianhippolyte can you elaborate more on this?
Do you use illustrator or in-design for your mood board?
use figma, it’s free and better

Really good workflow. I also send a call sheet with all details
Yes! Definitely a call sheet is good, forgot to include this as usually it would be the job of the producer on the shoot.
