A topic that can drives us completely insane , So after a lot of research and with only 5 year old tyres myself , i decided to take the plunge , some may think that it was way too early but not knowing the full history of my tyres ( used van ) and fully knowing the UK roads and the beautiful holes we have dotted all over the place & a decision often overlooked and put aside for “ maybe next year “ , i felt it was the right time for me , so i thought i’d share some of the things i learned along the way during my research with some behind the scenes fitting and how those dealers clean them used van wheels and tyres to make them look like new !

Apart from any obvious signs of damage, perishing of the rubber & puncture repairs, the tyres have a ten year life from date of manufacture. Look for the four digit numbers, the first two numbers are the week of manufacture and the last two are year of manufacture. Also it's worth knowing that the motorhome or campervan should be moved periodically to stop flat spots.
That was so informative and very useful, I was literally just thinking our tyres need to be checked! We’re on the final day of our holiday, those five weeks have flown over. We’ve had a fantastic time and stayed at some great locations. We now need to plan our next trip to Norfolk and Suffolk in September. Everyone loves the beaches in Cornwall and we stayed at Godrevy Park right on the beautiful three mile beach but for us you just can’t beat Norfolk and Wells-next-the-Sea. 😁 Thanks for sharing another interesting video.
hi sylv we’d love to go cornwall one day , ideal in a van conversion too with those narrow roads there , yea that five weeks have gone very quick , we’ve just got back from wells for kirstys birthday last week so the video will be out later today , only about my 10th video of pinewoods! but hey , love the place , take care and hopefully see you soon

Thanks Mike, as an honorary Yorkshireman it was crushing to pay for 4 new tyres with loads of tread left on them for our 2018 Motorhome but when we did we realised they were manufactured in 2016 and had started to crack on the side walls! Feel much safer now and the ride is much better so they clearly deteriorate with age.
hi paul after the research i did i was shocked to learn how fast a tyre can deteriorate with time and not mileage , can’t beat being safe , my van was used and i didn’t know the tyres history so i felt it had to be done

Hi Mike. It's always a nice feeling to know your vehicle has a new set of boots. We had new ones fitted last year on our motorhome. The tyres themselves still looked good and were of low mileage, but the age of them meant it was wise to change them.

hi rob yes even though they hadn’t done many miles or were even that old . they still recommend 5-7 years on motorhomes ! doesn’t seem long at all , some places said it’s because they are constantly carrying a lot of weight
Re the pressure for the tyres this is a reply I got from Continental for my Vantage Sol : Based on the following:
ContiVanco Camper 215/75 R16 (C*) 116/114 R tyres.
Front Axle: 1720 Kg - 3.5 bar/ 50.8 psi (maximum weight for pressure given = 1805 kg)
Rear Axle: (single fitment) 1420 Kg - 3.0 bar/ 43.5 psi (maximum weight for pressure given = 1600 kg)
Rear Axle: (twinned fitment) 1420 Kg - 3.0 bar/ 43.5 psi (maximum weight for pressure given = 3015 kg)
(*C- Commercial) (Single fitment (S) = two wheels per axle, Twinned fitment (T) = four (or more) wheels per axle)
So yes in short the pressures you have selected for the front at 51 psi and rear 44 psi should be perfect.
that’s very interesting, i suspected my fronts were low ; they even looked low , then when checked as you saw in the video , it indicated 56psi , and the rears were also low , this was filmed last week and since been on a long journey , the ride felt the same but the mpg was slightly better . thank you for sharing this
Hi Mike. Very interesting video. I have as 2021 Campervan on a Fiat Ducato and the label on the door pillar states that the tyre pressures should be 5.5 bar (just below 80psi) both front and rear. This is Michelins recommended pressures for their Agilis camping tyres. I has spoken to Michelin who say it is based on the fact that the Campervan/motorhomes are almost always driven at maximum payload and also the long periods of time when the vehicles are not in use.

Our Door shut sticker shows a higher Tyre pressure than the Motorhome Handbook, which is what I go by! 65 Rear Fronts 60psi

so assuming i got the correct one ( mine is a maxi chassis and pressure’s differ from the light chassis ) it’s saying 4.5 bar fronts 5.0 bar rears

As you say your happy with your purchase and that's what matters, maybe it's me missing the point but when did tyre's suddenly require such pressures, my van weighs same as yours and my pressures officially are 42 psi front and about 50 rear I run mine 51 psi all round winter and summer, from the snow in the mountains of Switzerland to the summer's in southern Europe and had one puncture on a motorhome, first motorhome 1986, I've never bought top of the range, mid range max, I just buy the correct specification for my vehicle and as you say regular visual checks and I'm more than happy to leave them 7 years without worry, I do use tyre covers in the hot sun to save drying out and check pressures regular, a lot of people don't know this but to preserve your tyres you should actually drive the vehicle to warm your tyres up and the oil's within the tyre to help prevent cracking, I also specify when buying a new tyre for it not to be more than six months old, yours are 1 year old which isn't a issue if they've been stored correctly out of the sun etc, another enjoyable vlog keep them coming 👍
hi stephen i remember when i had the swift , that also needed tyres when i first got it and that was the same , even the fitter at the time couldn’t believe the pressures stated in the handbook , which made me question running them with lower pressures , i always preferred a softer ride , i asked about the date stamp and they assured me they were stored in a “warehouse” , thanks for your pointers always happy to learn from others , we’ve just returned from a 150 mile round trip , couldn’t feel any ride difference however my 2 top front teeth are now missing and the top of kirstys head is a lot flatter 😂 , but the MPG was slightly up 👍😀
Good informative video Mike, and not a fish and chip insight 🙂 We have Rogue Razor alloys on our Consort with General Grabber AT3 tyres, love them 🙂 As for wheel dressing i use Autoglym, does nt last long though 🙂
i’ve always used autoglym polish on mine but not tried the tyre shine , i like the alloys on the new fiats and your rogue razors , no fish n chips that time 😂 definitely in next video though 👍😀
I run my pressure slightly lower than advised it just crashes too much at 69psi on the rear I’m toying with swapping the fronts to the rear just to get the wear even as they are about 3mm lower on the front
my fronts looked low at 56psi , just done a trip and feels the same really although a little bit better on MPG with them full up with air almost , with used vans you never know the history of the tyres which was another reason i did it
Would you say 60psi is best? Ive just picked up a 6m long V line and on handover guy said 79psi which it says inside door too.
Seems a bit high though and a firm bumpy ride. Theyre continental campers.
i’ve always gone a bit less than what it says in the door . maybe 60 front 70 rear give that a try as your not that heavy

Excellent video Mike, we have just purchased a reliable pressure gauge as Joe and mine read different readings. It’s so important to regularly check tyres and we do it at least once a month. 👍🏻😃🚐 Trev
